A7: I forgot about this one...I kept encouraging my student to play lacrosse because I knew she would make an excellent lacrosse player and she came back the next year and was thrilled to tell me that she started lax and was LOVING IT! #iledchat
A1: My mom, who turned 70 today and still teaches 3rd grade in Davenport, Iowa. She’s always taught me to reach just a little higher than I thought I could. #IlEdChat

A7: This has been my greatest gift. A handmade blanket from a student named Sam from my first class 12 years ago. If you knew Sam and his mom, you’d understand why this blanket has been a part of my life for so long. #ILEdchat#cridgepride
A7: When teaching 5th grade, a student gave me one of his pieces of art and asked if I would keep it. I told him yes. YEARS later he came to visit. His artwork was still hanging over my desk. The look in his eyes was my best gift. #iledchat

Seems like there's a lot of interest in standards-based learning based on the response from the bike analogy today. You might want to check out this free webinar on standards-based learning with @leeannjung! Register here: https://t.co/yKNKRpyCA0#edchat#iledchat#competencyed
That was a gift for both of us. I have learned so much from all of our work together. Hands down, you make me a better educator and person every time we talk. (Also, you do things like keep track of my lost items, so... ) You are pretty much the best ever! #iledchat
Everything else is just stuff. It's the kids that matter the most. It is not always rainbows and unicorns, but even the challenging moments are a gift that keeps on giving. 😀😀😀 Thanks for tonight! #iledchat

A2: @PeterMDeWitt, @dintersmith and @BreneBrown are three books/authors I have recently completed. All sooo good for different reasons but the one thing they have in common is that they pushed my thinking! #IlEdChat

Great chat, Many thanks for your dedication and Leadership for the learning and growth of your colleagues .... above @kimdarche, @jonbartelt! #iledchat
A7: 4th grade student w/ dyslexia told me she wanted to become a teacher so she can help kids read and feel good about themselves, just like I helped her. Fast forward to 9th grade and she is still set on becoming an educator. This is my why! #ILEdChat

A2 #iledchat#sd113a From an old teacher but best book & favorite author. Charlotte’s Web. A talking pig who relies on a spider to save his life? Life lessons in diversity and friendship and just being kind...all on a farm in Maine! Perfection!
A7: Best gift from a student: A student last year brought a check for our Christmas families. She wanted to donate her own money because she found out we helped her family when she was with us years ago. #PayItForward#sd113a#IlEdChat#RVican#BlssedPrincipal

A student wrote me a letter as her 7th grade teacher for always believing in her. I still have it framed on the wall of my office. Years later she did a social work internship in my district and I was able to show her I still had it. #IlEdChat
A7: A letter from a student who was having as tough of a go as I’ve seen and our school helped change his/her life for the positive. I have the letter framed as a reminder to never give up on a student no matter how dire the circumstances. #iledchat

A6: Neither of my parents had the opportunity to go to college. My mom wanted to be a nurse. My dad regrets being the daydreamer in class. They encouraged me to work hard, pursue my dreams, and value education. TY Mom & Dad. #iledchat
When I taught college, I always had my students do an "All The Good Things Project." One cohort surprised me with a book about me! It is still on my nightstand. A current fave is a picture a first grader drew of me as a mermaid. #iledchat

A4: I use Twitter like crazy to learn from others! I honestly check it most nights before bed. @kimdarche I initially thought you were crazy (well maybe there is some truth to that still) 😂 #ILEdChat#sd113a
Oh wow. I still have mine too. Mrs. Joyce Tollenaar, 2nd grade teacher at Horace Mann in Clinton, Iowa from the spring of 1994. I read through it again this past fall. #IlEdChat
A7. I still have a book that the class that I had during student teaching gifted me. I pull it out once a year to remind me of my "why." The pictures and notes are adorable. #iledchat

Honestly... #sd113a really has no idea how lucky I feel being able to work in this District. I landed there by a series of misfortunate events... and lots of interviews where I didn't get the job.
But it did show me that everything happens for a reason. #iledchat
A1: I'm giving a total shout out to tonight's moderator, @kimdarche ...she continuously teaches me LOTS of new things and I appreciate her! #iledchat ...and I will say I am inspired by every staff member in #sd113a as well.
The next #IASPAchat is on Thurs, Dec. 6 at 8:00 AM CST, hosted by @Mschroeder6 and me. The topic is Guest/Substitute Teachers. The questions are included for those who want to post tweets ahead of time. We're looking forward to learning from our #PLN. Please join us! #K12Talent
@Twitter I would like for the #ILedchat tweets to remain on #ILedchat.
I would also like @8blah8blah8 returned. The President of the United States 🇺🇸 and the President of the United States 🇺🇸 wife would like that account returned. @WhiteHouse
A3: "Gifts" for first year teachers:
1) Always remember your why, 2) Surround yourself with people who make you better, 3) Have the confidence to share and the courage to reach out for support #iledchat
A5: My greatest gift has been the opportunity to serve Ss, staff and community every day of my career. Never been a day that I have dreaded driving to work- it's a privilege- the day it feels anything less is the day to turn it in. We are all lucky to do what we do!! #iledchat
Great book and lots of great resources out there for teachers. We can all be better at what we do and your work work @SHEG_Stanford helps. Thanks! #iledchat
