Kim from moderating w/ . Just finished an awesome cohort w/ digital leaders.
Welcome to tonight's chat on the IDOE|CIESC partnership. Please tweet an intro & something awesome you've done this summer.
I have been doing camp this week . Having a blast with middle school students
Hello! Maria from Clinton, IN. Just finished an amazing two days with Cohort 7!

So glad you could join us!
Wow!!!! Welcome. I'm so glad you joined us!
Laura, eLearning Training Specialist @ IOA/CIESC stepping out of my comfort zone to help moderate tonight's chat.
Hi, everyone! This is my first chat. I'm Nicole from LA. Taught MS ELA; now work w/. Grew up in IN. Went to BSU. :)
Hello there ! Hope you are well!
Welcome, so glad you joined us.
Chris Tucker, assistant principal at Western Boone HS
Hello everyone! Steve, a Middle School Assistant Principal from Missouri
Q1: Why do u think strategic partnerships are important for the IDOE Office of eLearning? Read about ours https://t.co/pVzV6C3y2q
Thank you, Laura! Excited to be here!
Thanks for joining us! We are excited to chat with you tonight.
Thank you so much, Kevin! Looking forward to this chat w/fellow Hoosiers!
Thanks! I am glad to try out a new chat a learn some new things and expand on my PLN!
R1: We need to engage our students in methods of learning that increase their college and career readiness.
Steve from Valpo. Just landed in Vegas for 10 days w/my youngest. So kinda lurking tonight. https://t.co/HUxXaQE7Eh
R1 Partnerships btw DOE & service centers are important to help "spread the knowledge"
Now that is dedication! Enjoy!
R1: Provide all Ts / Ss with equal opportunity to learn and grow.
R1: having the engaged in the convo will help with that preparedness.
You know, just will let Steph or Klay take over, I'll tweet on timeouts
Hi Steve! I used to live in Valpo as a kid. :) I now live in Los Angeles. Hope you had a blast in Vegas!
I agree and there are lots of partnership that offers.
How would you define preparedness?
R1: It's an excellent way to stay focused on the goal of building edtech awareness and skills.
Q2: How do you think an educational service center can support your school initiatives? Are you a member of an ESC?
are PRIVATE schools eligible to join an ESC?
I agree. Getting different perspectives from others is always beneficial.
That is a good question. I will find out. We have many private schools who use our services that aren't members
Yes, bringing different perspectives together is essential!
R2: Having support for PD from ESCs is a great thing. Having located within five walking distance is great
A1:This allows Ts from all over your state to get info on tech, and not all districts can afford a district tech person
R2 IN has 9 ESC where Texas has over 20. Should IN have more service centers?
R2: Service Centers can provide training, resources and opportunities to ALL involved in Education.
R1 I think our Indiana ESC's can provide support through various opportunities like PD, Cooperative Purchasing, media resources
R2: I've been sent to a few PD sessions with CIESC and it has been great to collaborate with other local teachers
Good point. How many tech/instructional coaches do you have?
So excited for my first tomorrow!
A2:In MO,we have regional meeting areas to educate and train us on initiatives, ie PBIS,PLC, etc.Every1 is recieving same training
And we'll be happy to have you! I was just going to advertise that....
You will absolutely LOVE it! I went last year and learned so much!
which door should we use to enter Pike High School for
R2: My local ESC was able to personalize PD to our specific needs. Such a great resource when admin at my school were busy.
Q3: Focus Forum is designed for Admins. How do you determine what PD is needed for your As?
Our district just started an instructional coach for the 16/17 SY, it will be good since we are 1:1 w/ Chromebooks
Although a "true" edcamp has participants select sessions on the spot, we asked for some upfront input. https://t.co/KTo6odqlwv
R3 As are often forgotten & they need to lead by example.
A3: As an admin, having choices for personalized PD, some are very advanced in Tech, others are novice,
Do you think it is hard for some As to be transparent in their learning if they are a novice?
R3: As often need more PD than Ts. Educational leaders need and must know current and cutting edge trends
Should the personalized PD focus on tech, integration, or planning for the future?
Totally agree. So how do we get more to take advantage of offerings?
How do we make them see this need to lead?
R3: I was typically sent to the same PD as our Ts. I also was able to pick PD that aligned with our goals
R3: I think it is important to gauge the mindset first. If the A is "stuck in a rut", they absolutely need some guidance!
I think the team approach is SO beneficial. Learning together is so much more valuable.
An effective Admin will know their strengths and weaknesses, if know they are a novice in GAFE, or other tools
I love this. No one's time will be wasted, and everyone will advance their skills.
Looks like we are thinking or asking the same questions https://t.co/qf0yQ4TQTW
Totally agree. So how do we get more to take advantage of offerings?
R3: As may not realize the importance of being connected. The PD can make a huge difference for them!
We have a technology professional learning plan that will guide PD for As and Ta.
YES That is KEY to include them!
I think that would be the beauty personalized PD,if they need tech, inegration, or planning they know what they need
Who helped create the plan? Ts, Ss, As, Parents?
Q4: Why is it important for your As to learn about digital leadership?
Bingo, that is the problem w/ a district wide PD, sometimes it doesn't apply to me
I agree, it was nice having Ts to help share our learning with the staff.
R4: As, especially the SUPT, will be the leaders at the helm of any initiative.
A committee of As and Ts with the assistance of
Q 4.5: Can you truly move forward without a TRUE digital leader?
Yes, we have all been there!
R4: To lead their buildings by example and to set expectations
Yes and we are so fortunate that we have so many amazing Supers in our state leading the way!
R4: A's need a "sense of urgency" or we'll NEVER "catch up", will we? I know we'll NEVER "catch up" BUT WE have to TRY!
R4: Because it takes a village and it's hard to teach digcit without having As on board.
R4: Technology is evolving drastically. If your As are behind the wave, how can we prepare Ss for the future?
What is your vision of a great SUPT?
Q5: LEAD IN is designed mainly for tech integrators & coaches. What are some topics you would like to see included?
R4.5: They need to model what they want Ts to accomplish -- just as Ts would do for Ss.
A4:For me, I want to be able to answer ?s for Ts, Ss, Ps, and community members about what we are doing with Chromebooks
--as a former admin, all PD applied to me if it was important to my school
I now view the Supt as the key holder of our vision. Without the key, that car is not going to move.
Yes, let's not forget about community members. They are huge stakeholders that need to be connected.
A4.5:It will be hard, but with a powerful PLN and PD trainings can help, a T can become a leader in the buidling/ district
We've had a LOT more admins attend our PD sessions. So exciting to see the leaders modeling & learning!
R5: Tips to get the disengaged teacher to be a connected educator.
R5:To find out what types of support Ts really want, & fostering an atmosphere where they're not afraid to admit it.
Great analogy! & all the other parts that help make it run: Coaches, Ts, Ss, Parents, etc. But you need a key to start.
I agree, but sometimes district will bring in a speaker or cover material that doesn't include each building
. Head of School has been very supportive of
That is awsome, our district has personaliz summer PD by our staff members and I have signed up, gotta grow
R5: How to get Ts to move to the modification and redefinition levels of SAMR model.
I hate to run, but it is necessary! So great to chat even though it was short! Thanks
Lead by example. Can't expect others to do it if you aren't.
Thanks for joining in after two very long days!
That is definitely a great topic & one we discuss quite often.
Get ready to brag a bit on your awesomeness.
Q6: What does innovation look like in your district?
Yes, this is certainly an issue that affects every school.
Common misconception that you HAVE to use tech. I agree. It's not always the most effective.
A4 We need that focus..it will create responsible SS and leaders
I love this! In some environments, Ts are afraid to vocalize the need for help.
R6: With a district as large as mine, it is a hodge podge. I think each building has its own initiatives.
Yes student voice & choice and empowerment may not need any tech. It's not all about the tech.
R6: That makes that vertical articulation difficult and makes some initiatives chaotic for Ss
Absolutely! Use tech when it makes sense.
Is there a common district plan?
R6: Innovation appears in pockets. There are a small but might few willing to try new things.
We recognize that we need to support All out Ts at many tech levels & the same for our Ss & Parents
When schools think about innovation, do you talk to Ss and Parents to get ideas?
Hi . Great to see you here tonight
We will talk a lot about Innovation. You can find out more about Innovator’s Mindset by visitng https://t.co/1bBGQUGwAK
Great to point out that parents need to be supported as well.
love it when they amaze themselves w/innovation
Q8: When sending Ts to events, what are the expectations for dissemination of information?
R6: How do you even know what's going on in your district? That's one reason I really enjoyed last wk.
SS still need to get their hands dirty while learning. Tech should fuel learning when it can enhance it. https://t.co/1Fx8mu4v0N
Absolutely! Use tech when it makes sense.
R8 Ts are often asked to share their learning at next faculty mtg. I would love to start a Twitter chat for our district.
the most innovative things I've seen start with students sometimes it is the 1 trying to get around the "filter"
R8: Id rather have PD that is done with Ts and Ss . That way collaborating and modeling takes place.
Another topic we discuss in our sessions is Future Ready. Next Q coming up.
Love this! Embrace their innovation and guide it to positive ends! https://t.co/CQRQn4wPWP
the most innovative things I've seen start with students sometimes it is the 1 trying to get around the "filter"
Agree! How can we turn this around for the Ss and school's benefit?
Do you see the benefit of collaborating w/ other schools or districts to see what others are doing?
Q9: What does it mean to be ?
Are you a district? Explain how.
A8: I make a visit to my Ts to let them share with me and sched them to share at reg PD sessions
A9: preparing our Ss for future, our district is moving that way in STEM,we have a fab lab in our hs,and mulitple opportunites
R9: providing TS and Ss with the problem solving skills to incorporate tools and assimilate knowledge to future careers/knowledge
R9 To provide Ss w/ experiences that foster life skills: collaboration, communication, critical thinking...
we invite those Ss to help us in the lab...keep your adversaries close..they get a little citizenship lesson
R9 99 IN SUPTs have signed the pledge. Is your district one of them?
R9: Being able to think critically and having the skills to use technology in positive ways.
Our partnership PD will help you with many of these topics discussed tonight. There are free seats available!
