Thanks for the link. Scanning quickly I like the idea of a gratitude journal
A1: A supportive administrative staff that promotes creativity and risk taking,as well as buy in from Ts
I agree. Supportive admin & T buy-in is important

. nothing will kill school culture quicker than an administration that quashes individuality and alienates Ts
Glad you liked it. I started keeping one and definitely helped keep my chin up!
A1 overcoming a fear of failure-good culture supports risk taking https://t.co/60CVxz1noB
Q1-What types of behaviors/mindsets help to support a fresh and creative work environment or school culture?
A1: admin allowing for Ts to be creative can build a positive school culture
A1: supported admin, growth mindset, collaboration, positive and open-minds.
Trust your team & build their capacity to grow-when Ts feel this they buy in https://t.co/s4Jcnm6k7I
A1: admin allowing for Ts to be creative can build a positive school culture
To be fair to administration, Ts can also kill school culture by being close minded and questioning everything little thing
Q2-What things get in the way of fresh ideas & new working partnerships from taking shape for a positive school culture?
Exactly! Both sides can kill culture
Collaboration is the key. Too many silos or educators on islands out there. Only 1 planet. Get on aboard!
A1 starts with strong leadership-effective leaders question status quo-model growth mindset https://t.co/60CVxz1noB
Q1-What types of behaviors/mindsets help to support a fresh and creative work environment or school culture?
Ooh, those are difficult Ts. They sure can kill a mood.
A1: Admin that empower teachers and encourage them to take risks.
A2: negativity, not being able to see the larger picture, understanding the "why"
A2: Closemindedness, unreasonable questioning, constant bickering, and being "cancerous"
A2: the status quo and the fear of trying something new can get in the way
A2-I think time and availability to meet together can get in the way. Also fear is a big block for many. https://t.co/OBVf81ukpH
Q2-What things get in the way of fresh ideas & new working partnerships from taking shape for a positive school culture?
A2 those who argue for the status quo-the whole 'we've done this before' Fear of change holds back growth https://t.co/xMUocGSZUl
Q2-What things get in the way of fresh ideas & new working partnerships from taking shape for a positive school culture?
A2-I truly believe paperwork and the thought that a past idea/event/thing is more important than a new idea/event/thing.
A1: A growth mindset of course but always someone who is willing to challenge and change for the good of the kids
. the fear of trying new things can be negated by an admin that promotes risk taking
A2: Too many constraints placed on Ss & Ts...over-testing, paperwork- Teaching is an art- should be treated as such
A2: "This is the way it has always been done" mentality. We need to change the way we thing in order to grow & some schools don't
A1- Trust is a big one. Also the belief that there is more than one way to teach the same subject. Not every teacher is the same.
Q2 - In my experience, insecure leadership and top-down management structures
Nor should they be :) Differentiated instrxn applies to both Ss and Ts
Imagine if we implemented a year or two after piloted it? Where would we be now?
Q3-What conditions allow us to share and address the 800-lb gorillas in the room & not create an uncomfortable school culture?
paperwork-YES! when we bog down needed initiatives with wasteful paperwork we kill incentive to grow https://t.co/oCBRAViiWu
A2-I truly believe paperwork and the thought that a past idea/event/thing is more important than a new idea/event/thing.
A2: Fear of failure, selfish Ts, and admin that isn't approachable.
Managers kill innovation-leaders nurture it https://t.co/s9VcEIvuYy
Q2 - In my experience, insecure leadership and top-down management structures
A2- Micro managing, scripted lessons, & forcing everyone to do the same thing on the same schedule. Yuck.
A3: a PLC culture that allows for ALL to have a voice with each session a no judgement zone, celebrate good, own the not so good
A3-Openness and freedom to speak without judgement...doesn't that equate to respect for educators? https://t.co/g4NAjnZpFL
A3: Feeling equal with everyone- when someone feels that they are below a teacher or not as good they may hide from those topics
A3 mutual trust & culture of presuming positive intent by all stakeholders-all voices at the table https://t.co/Une9iKiqHD
Q3-What conditions allow us to share and address the 800-lb gorillas in the room & not create an uncomfortable school culture?
A3- I think having the culture that everyone is heard Definitely a no-judgment zone and the acceptance of try even if fail
A3: I feel things need to be dealt with directly- respectfully of course, get to know the gorilla and find out what makes it tick
First field trip cancelled, but was told I needed a bunch of forms filled out, instead it was only half of them.
A3- Is that possible? Well, I can say that blanket emails certainly don't do that job. I think people should be honest & upfront.
And if we let that happen, how can we change that? It's just as hard when T's don't want to grow
. Too many Ts and admin do the whole "passive aggressive" thing or punish the whole for the actions of few
Yes-all stakeholders need to have voices heard https://t.co/EXhuMGKRlc
A3- I think having the culture that everyone is heard Definitely a no-judgment zone and the acceptance of try even if fail
Q4-How does a vibrant, collaborative educator culture support a student culture of learning?
. It's a vicious cycle of buy in from all, and there is not a set way to address it, every situation is different
A3: honesty, trust, understanding the why, being respectful
A4 shows modeling-when Ss see Ts/admin taking risk & learning from it they feel empowered https://t.co/0LJI7U9vNa
Q4-How does a vibrant, collaborative educator culture support a student culture of learning?
A4- I think if Ss see Ts collaborating and doing well, they are more likely to collaborate as well and free to speak up with ideas
Exactly. We don't penalize the whole class cuz 1 kid can't multiply- we differentiate to encourage growth.
A4: Trickle down economics, happy admin = happy Ts = happy Ss = buy in by all = more likelihood of learning
A4 The more collaboration with other teachers & staff.....the more ideas to share & help your students grow & learn.
Agreed my friend, it is a hard one to solve indeed. Especially depending on the type of relationship btwn Ts & P
A4: The foundation for success lies in a supportive, expansive culture. Positivity breeds positivity https://t.co/d6OvztVGrD
A4-By allowing students the ability to try new things, fail, speak freely and appropriately, etc...
. Anything to do with Season 4 creating a happier T starting this Friday?
Q5-What can YOU do this year or next to sustain a culture of creativity, growth, and learning at your school?
A4: Everyone is taking ownership. Ss seeing it is okay to FAIL being modeled from Ts/admins, empowerment
A5 take time to build it! don't assume its all perfect-know the hidden culture & build relationships https://t.co/CbFinGL9V4
Q5-What can YOU do this year or next to sustain a culture of creativity, growth, and learning at your school?
A5: Continue to try new things! I am not where I am after 11 years by doing the same thing I did as a first year T
A5: Kids need to trust you, feel that you care, & feel safe. That relationship and building of culture starts w/ the kids
A5-Be willing to take risks and try new things. Sometimes they fall flat, but they can also lead to awesome results
A4- Aside from modeling, it allows students a richer learning experience when teachers collaborate to expand PBL & assignments
A5 You can continue to learn, collaborate and then share and grow (T's and S's).
A5: Continue to model, share, Ps and Ss voices are powerful. When Ts start to hear positive things, shift starts to happen.
A5: I really want to share the power of twitter as belonging to a community of like-minded learners.
. Sometimes the failure is the success, showing Ss that it is ok and that even the T fails at times
I think becoming active on Twitter and several PLCs has given me some great ideas this year!
. More Ts need to jump on this bandwagon. It can be scary, but that's where the risk taking has to happen!
A5-Easy...learn something new each day AND share it!!!! !
I completely agree. First Attempt In Learning.

A4: Creates a culture of ideas and curiosity. Appreciate others and the unknown rather than focus on rigid schedules, hierarchies.
A5: Today we awarded 20 NV schools a 1:1 grant program which includes some leadership PD I can't wait to get started!
