Good morning, friends! Fourth grade teacher, instructional tech guy, and person who still trying to get a job as an admin. (More than 150 applications submitted and about 30 interviews completed, but I’m still not abandoning my dream!) #satchat
A1: Students should feel good about being in school and learning. Teachers should feel proud and excited about the job they do. Celebrate teaching and learning, and good things will result. #satchat
A1. Celebrating through storytelling! We can recall previous Ss successes, reframe the misses to find the positive, & praise the process of growth! Disney is a great place to start (i.e. "Just keep swimming!") #satchat

A1: Celebration improves culture. Recognizing the positive shows an inherent interest in positive things students are doing, and it shows them you care. #satchat
A1: Celebrating and recognizing wonderful things will motivate students, teachers, leaders, etc to keep it going! The more celebration, the more great things will keep happening! Allow others to shine ⭐️ #satchat
A1: Celebrating learning helps to foster a positive culture. Even just a tweet or retweet of exciting snapshots of a classroom digitally shows the school community: this is what we value #satchat
A1: When celebration & praise are authentic it reinforces the practices & behaviors that are good for the school—students & staff and as a result have a positive impact on teaching, learning & culture! #satchat
Any place where people know they'll be celebrated is a place they're going to want to continue going. Getting recognized will get Ss and Ts working harder in the future for it to happen again. #satchat
#satchat A1 A positive climate accentuates learning. Celebrating admins, Ts, and students intensifies the feeling of belonging, thus success. One need only look to our PLN to see fantastic examples.
Q1. It brings joy and fun; schools should still have those things. It inspires. It give others targets to reach for/beyond. I think we could all use a little more highlighting of good. #satchat
A1: When we celebrate teaching and learning school becomes a place teachers and students no longer feel an obligation to be there, they go because they want to. #SatChat
A1 Shout the Positives so loud.... People want to be involved with positive experiences. It enhances every part of the experience when we celebrate and focus on the positive. #satchat
A1 Celebrate the great things educators do on a daily basis to both showcase the amazing things happening in their classroom and support best teaching practices. #satchat
A1: We rarely need to be told where or how we are coming up short. Celebrating learning at any level is celebrating growth, which usually came through perseverance and determination! Abandon the “red pensil mentality” and focus on what’s going well or being done right! #satchat
A1: Ed leaders should constantly publicize and make all stakeholders aware of the positive things going on in the classroom and learning process. Constantly reinforce and acknowledge great examples of learning and teaching. Others will follow those high standards. #satchat
A1: Celebrating learning and the educational process helps students and educators to BELIEVE in themselves...this can make all the difference! #satchat
A1: Teaching can be a thankless job, so we have to celebrate where we can. I'm also a "yellow" personality type, so I need to have fun in my work. https://t.co/p4NR0KuQvs if you want to see what you are! #satchat
A1: Celebrate all learning victories! I'm the sepcial edu teacher so to some it may seem like a minor victory, but in reality I have seen the S work all year towards achieving a goal. #satchat
A1 Any time you celebrate someone’s efforts you show that you appreciate the effort and that you are paying attention. Acknowledgement shows support. #satchat
A1 For me celebrating learning keeps me grounded when I read an agenda. And the teachers seem to appreciate when I understand and appreciate what they do. #satchat
Good morning #satchat. Happy to be able to join you on this sunny Saturday morning. Looks like Spring has finally sprung here in MA! I teach 3rd grade and am excited about the chat today!
A1) Twitter, Twitter, Twitter! Show off your successes and let teachers and students know that their activity, behavior, and mindfulness make them worth sharing with he world #satchat
A1) celebrating learning must be an essential component of the T&L process. We must celebrate our students progress. We must encourage risk taking & acknowledge when misconceptions are overcome and new learning occurs. Celebrating teachers and their hard work is vital #satchat
A1: Celebration, especially through positive specific feedback, makes people feel valued and excited to contribute to and be part of something bigger.
#satchat
A1: School culture is extremely important! Having authentic celebrations together helps foster a culture with a focus on teaching and learning #satchat
A1: you know that phrase happy wife, happy life? Well happy students and happy teachers makes all the difference in the world. Celebrating teaching and learning infuses people with the joy needed to press on #satchat
A1: Celebrating learning allows for the community to see the success of students. Celebrating teaching gives opportunity for learning - Seeing and discussing masterful teaching allows for all involved to grow #satchat
A1: when wonderful work is acknowledged people, the positive praise is appreciate and morale increases. When the morale is high- productivity and achievement increases. Achievement socially, emotionally, and academically. #satchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A1: Celebrating learning is a crucial element of every week in ensuring that children feel that what they are contributing and have produced is valued and then gives them confidence and pride in their work #satchat
A1: Celebrating who we are and what we do in our schools is an essential part of the process...it’s like adding the beautiful bow to the gift! #satchat
A1: in our society, we talk about the game winning TD or basket from last nights game. If we treated classroom success like that, what would our world look like? #satchat
A1 - When we focus on the learning practice, we can develop positive habits leading to lifelong learning, instead of focusing on a letter grade and the idea that the “A” is the only thing that leads to opportunity in life. #Satchat
A1: We all love to celebrate accomplishments, should be part of learning process. At our school we LOVE to have big celebrations that leave students excited and honored to be a part of our school. Here is an example: https://t.co/PbgOZ7d4Y2#satchat
A1) Celebrating victories in the learning environment brings a positive energy to the school. Which entails helps people want to work harder towards to accomplishing school goals. Success breeds Success! #satchat
A1: Celebration should be as much apart of learning as reading and writing. Celebrating learning solidifies spaces of ownership and pride for Ts, Ss and As. #satchat
🌿Leads. Leaks. Lies.
@NBCNews gets its collective tails slammed in the lyin’ cage on the Cohen wiretap report, and walk it back.
Huge story.
It’s not the first BIG lie.
@ABC tanked the stock market with FAKE @GenFlynn news, Ross was later fired for lying.
#Satchat#ffweekend
A1: We're blind to some assumptions here, and what it means to celebrate. Too much of what passes for celebration in school feels more like rewarding subordination.
#satchat
A2. Weekly Student Showcase newsletter. Sent to all parents and students, and loaded with photos, gifs, videos, student reflections, and amazing work products on display. Like the 21st century equivalent of hanging great work on the fridge! #satchathttps://t.co/a4wZIppwXy
A1: At our school we have a celebration assembly every Friday, which I lead to recognise and celebrate learning and achievements both in and out of school #satchat
A1: Recognizing the great work of staff and students in a school can improve school culture. A positive school culture is a key to a successful learning environment! #satchat
A2: We try to practice what we preach! **Work hard, play hard.** Learn, stretch, risk. Then rest, relax, regroup. Dance breaks to "Shake It Off" & "Let It Go" make for great moments of laughter & play! #satchat
A1 Growth mindset, celebrating the journey to get to the end is just as important as celebrating the end result! Promotes a positive culture with celebrating!! #Satchat
A1 I also believe that celebrating community work together is different than sorting and selecting for individuals to receive awards - successes almost always reflect teams #satchat
A1 It's easy to focus on negative things & lose sight of the positive things happening. This creates bad attitudes and culture. By celebrating the good, positives are kept in the forefront. This motivates both Ts & Ss which keeps everyone happy and coming back for more! #satchat
A1: celebrating learning, especially of teachers learning builds a positive culture in your district that adults never stop learning and that it is ok to try new things and learn from your mistakes no matter what age! #satchat
A1.2 Also, as much as we want to be we can’t be all places at all times so celebrating a student or staff accomplishment via social media or by an email or handwritten note we reinforce that although we might not have been physically present we still appreciate them! #satchat
A2: Pep rallies, opportunities to share with classmates, positive phone calls home, inviting families and community members in to see the wonderful things happening every day! #satchat
Good morning and welcome to #Satchat. Today’s topic is Celebrating Learning, Teaching, and Leading. Questions are posted here: https://t.co/Oxog37RkM7 Please introduce yourself.
A1 Learning should always be https://t.co/heVGolayp1 creates a school culture which values learning. That said, it’s important to not just celebrate the Ss that achieve high scores, we should be celebrating Ss that have travelled a long way on the learning continuum
#satchat
A2: Even at the college/university level we post student work in our office area, we invite otger programs to view final projects and we celebrate student and instructor success at tge ens of the year #satchat
A2 We celebrate risk taking- students love to share their passion projects/genius hour with the class. Getting up in front of peers takes guts! We are always celebrating with Shout Outs, high fives, giving compliments! #Satchat
A1: Celebrating learning should not include mastery deadlines. All Ss can learn and all Ss are different. Expecting everyone to achieve/master a skill by a set date is unrealistic and sets Ss up for failure. #thepowerofyet#satchat
My Celebrate Achievement page https://t.co/KVF1NNncOF I feel it is important to celebrate teaching, learning and the achievements of students in all areas. #satchat
A2: In our district we started something new, using our data to celebrate our mid-year & end-of-year top scholars AND top growers in ELA and Math at each school. If we can have an athletic hall of fame, why not one for our academics? 😃 Learning=what school’s all about! #Satchat
A2: People are celebrated each week for a variety of things in my weekly Principal notes, we celebrate students through positive office referrals and we spend 5 minutes at the start of every faculty meeting celebrating something. #satchat
A2. By not only celebrating the student's accomplishments but celebrating students effort as well. Celebrate students for trying something new and taking risks. #satchat
A2) In our district we celebrate school wide through PBIS. We have a teacher led house system, where every student works to earn points for social and academic successes #satchat
I TELL MY STUDENTS THIS EVERY DAY
-Read more
-Write more
-Practice public speaking
-Sharing is caring
-Memorising is not learning
-Ask questions
-Be original
-Effort matters
-Find a mentor
-Believe in yourself
-Be a role model
-Learning new skills is the new currency
#satchat
A2: The most important celebrations of learning are the ones that happen consistently, every day. Powerful, simple inquiry:
"Wow, I am impressed! Tell me what you are proud of."
#SatChat#Path2Serendipity
A2. Finishing work/project/paper can mean spending time in the biggest classroom in the school putting together a puzzle, drawing on whiteboard table or just hanging out.
#satchat
A2. A “proud board” for papers /tests that exceed expectations. Stickers. Yep middle schoolers still love them! Being able to chose a favorite song for outstanding problem solving. #satchat
A2: without a classroom, I think it would be great to create a newsletter that focuses on the great teaching and learning Ts are doing around the district and the new tech they are trying out. Articles on their process and the impact it made on their students #satchat
A2 we also get to treat students with gifts from the community like concert tickets and dog sled adventures. Our community celebrates success with us! #satchat
A2: Since I'm not classroom based, we celebrate T's & S's with shout outs in our @SmorePages newsletter, on our Google Classroom and Twitter. I'd love to use @AlludoPlay but don't have the funds right now. #satchat
A2) Visit the rooms and see what they’re doing. Call out successes on the announcements, post videos and tweets about the things you see that cause learning. Celebrate not just the successes, but the innovations you see. #satchat
A1. We owe it to the kids and to each other to celebrate learning and all the successes (big and small) that occur. This is a school culture must! Be consistent and intentional in this! #satchat
A2: I thank students for raising their hands, thank them for volunteering an answer, and every Friday we start class sharing the ways we inspired a world of good and our accomplishments. I try to constantly bring happiness and positivity into everything they do! #satchat
A2: In our classroom we celebrate learning by creating content that demonstrates understanding. Then we proudly share that content with the world! #satchat
Yes! So important that educators model lifelong learning and risk taking...the fear of failure causes stagnation & has a devastating impact on the quality of teaching & learning! #satchat
A1: celebrating learning, especially of teachers learning builds a positive culture in your district that adults never stop learning and that it is ok to try new things and learn from your mistakes no matter what age! #satchat
A2: Ts in my building constantly celebrate learning. Invite parents in for writing/poetry celebrations; inviting other classes in for #geniushour presentations...there is certainly positive recognition for hard work. I would like to see even more #satchat
A2: I would host a round table with my students at the end of every marking period. It was an opportunity for them to talk to me about the teaching and learning authentically and without fear. It was my way of saying this is YOUR classroom #satchat
A2: Celebrating learning is a daily part of our experience...my K students love to show, share, tell, listen, laugh, and raise each other up! It’s the way we ‘do school’! 😊💕 #satchat
A1 #satchat Wide ranging learning celebrations help s's recognize the value of their uniqueness. Learning is not a factory model- not just content topics but it's also the arts, interest clubs like chess, culinary, trade programs. S's must see others value their talents.
A2) I send notes to teachers when I see a great lesson. I post on Twitter and IG. I also send kudos via email to the HS staff when teachers and students are recognized for their work #satchat
A1: Highlighting and advertising successes likely increases motivation of others to perform because it increases their personal expectation of mastery. @RhondaBondie1
“Uva uvam vivendo varia fit” #satchat
A2: I'm a sped teacher. For some of my kiddos we are celebrating that they made it the entire day w/out any behavior issues. We support each other, use positive mindsets, high 5, praises, hugs, and reassurances that tomorrow will be a better day and another day to try. #Satchat
A2 - Showcasing learning from my classroom is something I want to do more. I’d do this by having students use Twitter or other social sharing sites to globally share what they do. This follows ISTE standards to prepare students for the 21st century workforce. #satchat
G’day Sue. There are plenty of eateries roughly were those banners are. Pic is of Darling Harbour, just off Sydney Harbour. A place to visit if you’re in Sydney. A lot of Sydney Harbour Cruises, Leave from this harbour. #satchat
My Celebrate Achievement page https://t.co/KVF1NNncOF I feel it is important to celebrate teaching, learning and the achievements of students in all areas. #satchat
We celebrate learning by providing scaffolding around risk taking and pushing students to understand the world outside their classroom @LevelUpVillage#satchat
A2: In our classrooms Ts & Ss celebrate with poetry jams, book tastings, read aloud, readers theatre, pot luck meals, cooking classes, S incentives, field days, outdoor classes in the park, good notes/calls home, family fun, spirit week etc #satchat
#satchat A2: Take the time to showcase student work in the classroom or hallway. I will always ensure that I recognize that one student that makes very little progress but on that one day BAM. Celebrate the little things also.
A2 Hand written notes to students, staff and community members go a long way toward appreciating people- I have a thank you box full of them on my desk reminding me to write at least 5 a day! Appreciate people #satchat
A2: Posting examples of student learning throughout the classroom for all to feel when they enter. Also, publishing on my Twitter page for the school community to see. #satchat
A3. AMAZING idea for #TeacherAppreciation week.
1. Create a 1 question Google Form soliciting teacher shout outs
2. Send form BCC to the ENTIRE STUDENT BODY
3. Gather results. Share EVERYTHING. With EVERYONE.
https://t.co/2TBkNOXr9K
SO powerful. Everybody wins. #satchat
A2: Great way to celebrate learning in the classroom is goal setting - To be successful students need to set goals, understand how to measure growth, and allow for celebration in the classroom community #satchat
A2: As a principal, I love it when my teachers send me a text about some awesome learning going on in their class... so I can run down their and celebrate with them. #SatChat
A2: In my school many teachers celebrate learning by posting student work in the classroom. Also through praise. In 1 classroom there’s an AP Psych Wall of Fame with all of the past sthdents that the AP Psych Teacher has had that earned a qualifying score on the exam! #satchat
A3: I set up a way for staff to celebrate each other, but this is an area I need to learn new ways to do. It is so important to celebrate teaching. #SatChat
A2: Ss love 1:1 time to review goals and discuss their growth charts. We talk about how good it feels to work towards and accomplish goals. #EveryChildEveryDay#satchat
A2: invite peer teachers and admin to visit and help evaluate student presentations, push your kids to be part of the bigger world outside the class. Teach them that they often know more then adults they look up to when they’ve worked hard on a task! #SatChat
A2: In teachable moments, I often liked to stop and say to the class, I just heard this..., or I just saw this group doing this... in order to give immediate praise and feedback. But one on one celebratory conversations seemed to mean the most to my students. #satchat
A2: I work with K-5 so I try to celebrate in anyway that I can. I make phone calls home, send class dojo/ text messages with photos of greatness, I also share the celebration with their Ts and our leadership team. #satchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A2 I love celebrating group successes, so it doesn't feel competitive to students. Working as a class to reach a goal is a great way to celebrate everyone #satchat
A3. We celebrate teaching by sharing w each other & learning w each other! I love our PD mornings when we simply share ideas, dreams, techniques over a cup of coffee. It's not a competition...we're stronger together! #satchat
A3: Show of work that we've done in class, talk about all the good stuff at lunch, complement colleagues, learn what their good at, teach them what you're good at. #satchat
Q2–In my classroom we celebrate learning by having a reward breakfast every nine weeks for the class with the most points for kindness, respect, passion for learning, and highest class average on all assignments. #satchat
Teacher appreciation week should be every week. Next week spotlights our appreciation for teachers, but as a nation we need to appreciate them more and bash them less #satchat
A2: One way I celebrate learning as a high school teacher is by giving out a student of the week award. Students are nominated by others (& me). If they win, they get a “good” phone call home & a hw pass. Building relationships w/students and parents improves learning! #satchat
A2: I teach PK&K MD/ASD so I own stock in stickers & stampers! Ss earn incentives throughout the day for their good work. The power of positive praise keeps behaviors down. There trophy prizes for top performers too. Ss are proud of the sticker of smiley face they earn. #satchat
A2: I will admit I haven’t done such a great job at publicly celebrating with my students this year, but I do lots of private conferences to celebrate and fist bumps and high fives throughout the day! #satchat
A2.2 Another way we celebrate student learning & achievement is by highlighting their accomplishments in my Friday Focus newsletter that I put out to staff via email and the community via social media! #satchat
A1: It creates a mentality change from seeing learning as filling silos or “wrong until right” thinking to a growth-mindset, always “moving forward” mentality. Celebration creates a feeling of hope, purpose, and drive to keep going - for ALL stakeholders. #satchat
An end-of-the-year fair where students meet up to have food and enjoy indoor games can be a good way to celebrate learning. Students also get to interact with those who they haven't talked to much during the year. #satchat
A3 Same Celebrate people first. Know them, care about them. Put them out front. SM, News articles, littke things like "jeans" day. Know what drives them and promote celevrate that. #satchat
A3: I think it's hard to celebrate teaching sometimes bc of different comfort levels. But I think simple compliments or sharing of ideas are great. #satchat
Me too!!! It’s the absolute best when I can swing in and catch the excitement in person! I have to say... it makes me love my job even more! #satchat#momsasprincipals
A2: We share ideas and encourage each other. We gather as learners, too. Book clubs, nature outings, etc. If we talk the talk, why not walk the walk. #satchat
A2: Celebration in classrooms also include embedded choice and voice from & w/Students. They choose and make decisions abt some curriculum, assessment &their learning. Deep discourse w/Ss is key. Working on a version of ‘PD’ for students 2018/2019! #satchat
A2 I observe Ts & document the amazing things they're doing in my blog. Ps and Ts get a peek into other classrooms to see the risk taking going on in the school #satchat
A3: I post and retweet greatness happening in our school. We share with each other during collaborative planning, we send kind notes and make sure that the Ts know they are noticed and appreciated! #satchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A3. Each week staff members nominate each other to be recognized district-wide. Knowing your colleagues went out of their way to acknowledge your hard work is a special feeling! #satchat
I’m off to celebrate athletes at the @sowisconsin regional track meet in Oregon, Wi. Can’t wait to read through theses awesome celebration posts later #satchat
A2. I'm no longer in the classroom. But we have school and team-based assemblies to honor kids. Teams do individual recognition, exemplary behavior certificates I get to share w/S's, We have monthly staff recognitions & events that cause staff collaboration like bowling #satchat
A3. AMAZING idea for #TeacherAppreciation week.
1. Create a 1 question Google Form soliciting teacher shout outs
2. Send form BCC to the ENTIRE STUDENT BODY
3. Gather results. Share EVERYTHING. With EVERYONE.
https://t.co/2TBkNOXr9K
SO powerful. Everybody wins. #satchat
different Ts have different motivations. Some love public praise, others prefer private acknowledgment. Each T is different and we need to understand that. #satchat
A3 - Every year before Super Bowl weekend, I had the NHS create Super *Teacher* Bowl tickets. These forms had the entire student body write “Thank Yous” to their favorite teachers anonymously to let them know that they are appreciated. #satchat
A3: We give teachers opportunities to share and present wonderful practices and resources with staff, weekly shouts outs, inviting community members and families to the school so they can see what our amazing teachers are doing daily! #satchat
A3: We got two new interim co-principals in the fourth quarter. Every staff meeting is started with celebrations and affirmations. It is a great way to acknowledge one another and to offer encouragement. #satchat
A2: Also, I hang up student work on my classroom walls and I give out challenge problems to students who finish early. #recognition#differentiation#satchat
A3: we could honestly celebrate teaching more... we don't have many opportunities to share. I started #LunchandLearn series to help...I am looking forward to seeing how you guys fit this in and borrowing some ideas! RnD- research and duplicate :) #satchat
A2: A way to celebrate is establish and protect time for learners (can be Ss and Ts) to share their learning progress. Could make a #Projectsday2018 type event at the level we can control. Like a big deliberate and more public “Think, pair, share” #satchat
The #USArmy has leaders of character who think critically, internalize their professional identity and employ their education to build the #FutureArmy and advance the Warfighter. #ProjectsDay2018#Innovation
A3: Through supportive PD models! There’s nothing better than learning alongside teachers, helping them troubleshoot concerns, and praising their progress. There’s always much to be proud of if we’re willing to recognize it. #Satchat
A3: We try to celebrate teaching in a number of ways including in my weekly newsletter, through email, handwritten notes for a job well done & through a weekly segment in the @dhstvmedia student news show the Tribe! #satchat
A3: Well, we never did. But I would have loved to see a weekly shout out to a teacher doing something awesome in the classroom. That kind of email would certainly brighten my day! (And perhaps give me a fresh idea or way to connect to a colleague) #satchat
Good...Queen Elizabeth is beyond heinous and deserves it...but I'd rather have her put on the (((must walk down a city street alone after the world finds out that she is beyond heinous))) #QAnon#SaturdayMotivation#satchat#SaturdayMorningTalk
A1. It's a great way to look back and introspect. Thinking about the improvements we've made in ourselves as well in the lives of those who know us is a good first step to create enthusiasm for learning and understanding. #satchat
A2 It's important to create opportunities for ppl 2appreciate each other in your school. We start every meeting with "Shark (we are the Monomoy sharks) Shout Outs" - staff compliment each other- it now lasts 5 minutes & sets a positive tone! #satchat
A3: We share ideas and encourage each other. We gather as learners, too. Book clubs, nature outings, etc. If we talk the talk, why not walk the walk. #satchat
A3) I highlight what I see and how the activities fit our #vision. I also started our #MakeMondayaMazing program where teachers get M&Ms as a thank you for championing our kids. the #satchat
A2 We fill up our Yes! jar with pompoms. Each "Yes!" "Alright!" "Whoo hoo!" moment gets a pompom in the jar. When the jar is full, we have a class treat #satchat
A3: We showcase great things on Twitter and Instagram. Definitely thank them regularly and show my appreciation. Need more ideas for public praise. #satchat
A3: I get into classrooms every day so I actually KNOW what teaching is happening. Then, I celebrate it through conversations, handwritten notes, tweets, videos, telling colleagues, etc. It is the consistent little things that has the biggest impact. #satchat#Path2Serendipity
A1: Good morning! Valerie from FL joining! When you celebrate education you are saying “This is special!” “This is worth a celebration!” We need to do this every day! #Satchat
How do you encourage everyone to participate? For some, the negatives are so distracting, it's hard for some to think of the positive on the spot. #satchat
In reply to
@DrKnicki, @ChristineMatula, @ScottRRocco
A2: I haven’t done a very good job of that in the past because I’ve focused too much on observing only one form of learning. I intend to change that this summer with an in-depth exploration of culture with action steps to change the culture in my classroom next year. #satchat
A2 Celebrate ALL success. As a technology coach, I’ll even celebrate someone learning to copy/paste. That’s a big step for that person, it deserves to be celebrated. #satchat
A3: As a teacher, it meant a lot to me when a colleague or administrator would ask me to collaborate or share something that worked well with others. I also appreciated learning from others! Being able to learn from each other and continue to grow led to celebrations. #satchat
A3It's important to celebrate good teaching by investing in the T. In addition to sharing the quality teaching with others leaders can have the T lead PD sessions, partner the T with others who need coaching,& provide resources to the T linked to their professional goals #satchat
#satchat A3: Teachers are willing to share with each some of their special moments in the classroom. Of course we have teachers nominated for Teacher of the Year.
I need to raise $500 for the Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute so that I can spend a week supporting middle & high school students eager to change their communities for the better! Please use the link to make a donation! #edchat#mschat#leadershiphttps://t.co/qTDmI0rCNm
This is great! I thank my students when they make a mistake, and tell them I appreciate that they shared their thinking. I explain that sharing their thoughts, right or not, helps everyone to learn and also helps me know how to guide them & what to work on next. #satchat
A3: We have adopted a great sharing culture at Nottingham HS that constantly promotes examples of learning both in the classroom and on the athletic fields through Twitter. @StarsPrincipal is always sharing teaching and athletic accomplishments of our Stars #satchat
A2 Many of our teachers use @Flipgrid and @Seesaw so students can share their celebrations with an audience - usually parents or other members of the school community. #satchat
A3: Teaching is specifically celebrated by featuring different things each week in my weekly principal notes. There’s often a picture & always a blurb about why it’s worth celebrating and an invite to visit that teacher & check it out or ask questions #satchat
A3: We showcase great things on Twitter and Instagram. Definitely thank them regularly and show my appreciation. Need more ideas for public praise. #satchat
A3b) We also have the #BeeoftheMonth award that the current holder of the award gives to another. It allows teachers to recognize each other for things we may not see as admin. And, yes, there’s a little wooden bee that changes hands monthly with the award. #satchat
A2: I used to celebrate the end of a semester of #science learning by having S create a “Science Research Magazine” Each team would be responsible for diff concept & each S of team would be article “writer” focusing on their fav authentic activity that we did #reflection#satchat
A3. We wish we had an answer to this question! We do plan to organize events when start at a school. We are at the pre-service stage right now. #satchat
A2: In our weekly digital newsletter we have a "Shout Out" section- scroll down to it (link below)- see students, staff, parents & community members publicly complimenting each other- absolutely amazing impact on school culture-try it! https://t.co/Gs77z4lPL7#satchat
A4: By empowering and support Ts & Ss to become leaders. I try really hard to not say "no" to an idea, but to work with others to find ways to make it work #SatChat
A3: Informal conversation of success in the classroom is very meaningful - Allows for deeper conversations on instructional decisions. Along with this, side-by-side observations - teachers can learn from each other and then apply new ideas to the classroom #satchat
A3It's important to celebrate good teaching by investing in the T. In addition to sharing the quality teaching with others leaders can have the T lead PD sessions, partner the T with others who need coaching,& provide resources to the T linked to their professional goals #satchat
A2 Reinforcing a culture that rewards achievement starts by recognising staff achievements. At 1 school, the Principal created a ‘Lucky Draw’ for Monday briefing.Staff could nominate another staff member for their efforts. If they got drawn out, they would win something
#satchat
A3.3 We also instituted a Pineapple Chart this school year and part of the idea is that we can all celebrate teaching and learning by inviting our colleagues into our rooms to observe! #satchat
RT or like if you believe animals deserve freedom from:
-Hunger
-Thirst
-Pain
&
-Fear
RT o similar si crees que los animales merecen libertad de:
-Hambre
-Sed
-Dolor
y
-Miedo

A3 I try to seek out teachers to tell them when I’ve see their awesome work in person or on Twitter. I also try to amplify them via Twitter for others to see their creativity. #satchat
A3: Harness the power of social media. We try to celebrate our teachers and students with the 🌎 and our local community. In-house we celebrate teaching by co-teaching, posting work and action teams! Here is how my school celebrated me yesterday #blessed#TeamLMES#satchat
A4. Sharing on social media is a great way to celebrate formal & informal leadership by students, teachers, & administrators! A quick shout out online is a fun, simple way to say I SEE YOU & I APPRECIATE YOU! #satchat
Joining the teaching profession is a major sacrifice of time, money, social life, relationships, mental health, etc.
You would think some administrators would appreciate them more. #satchat
A3: celebrating teaching by praising & mirroring what works across all content areas. Shout outs, bulletin board hall of fame, smore newsletters, and most of my work is Differentiating PD 4Ts so they attend/access learning that’s personal 4them! #satchat
A3. Handwritten notes of appreciation, Teacher Out of the Blue recognitions, luncheons, breakfasts, team talk at leadership meetings highlighting great things the teams are doing, online book studies, teams hold off campus meetings to coffee up, get ice cream or lunch #satchat
#satchat A3: I see this as an area that could always use some growth. Collaboration among teachers is a must and recognizing those great moments in the classroom.
A3: See my answer for Q2. This discussion is helping me focus greatly on an important missing element within my four walls as well as the halls of my school. Time for me to do some serious learning and time for some serious change. #satchat
A3: A great way to celebrate teaching is to give teacher leaders a platform to elevate a scale their expertise. Bring observers to their rooms and support them in developing and implementing a school wide professional development #satchat
A3 personal notes, dropping by classrooms, social media, saying thank you every chance we get all year long, recommending people connect because they have something to offer as help or support or a common interest #satchat
Keep doing it! Point out things you see wherever you can! Be the example of celebration! Not everyone always has something to share, but at least a couple of people always have something they can celebrate! #satchat#BeTheOne#KidsDeserveIt
In reply to
@specialtechie, @DrKnicki, @ScottRRocco
A4: Everything displayed on social media; positive calls and notes home; saying thank you on a regular basis; frequent staff breakfasts or snacks...little things mean a lot #satchat
Q2–I have a large Wheel of fortune that we spin for Random Rewards Days, e.g., everyone ready with all work, all engaged in lesson, working well with partners. They spin the wheel for 5 extra points on a class activity. They LOVE this. #satchat
A3) Same as A2)
A2) I send notes to teachers when I see a great lesson. I post on Twitter and IG. I also send kudos via email to the HS staff when teachers and students are recognized for their work #satchat
A2 Showcasing Ss work, a note home, a phone call-especially if the previous conversation was about concern over progress. Subjects such as Music, Drama, Visual Arts, Woodwork, Metalwork, etc really lend themselves to this. Publishing S work works also
#satchat
A3: our principal will leave notes on bulletin boards and provide written letters for good work. In another school we had a teacher of the year that was just a popularity contest with no merit basis, SPED Ts were never nominated and isolated #satchat
A3. When you see exceptional teaching you need to stop and let that teacher know that they are doing a great job, highlight how their moves are positively impacting student achievement. #satchat
A4: By providing more opportunities to lead! Heading up a new initiative, professional development, or a conversation, giving leadership opportunities will only contribute to everyone’s growth and continue to build a culture where we allow others to shine & collaborate #satchat
A4: Don't.
Good leaders don't need it--they will hear positive things even after tough decisions.
Poor leaders will just add more letters after their names.
#satchat
A4: I take moments to thank folks for their leadership and their commitment to go beyond themselves. Sometimes just a simple acknowledgement that you’re noticing others goes a long way. I know, for myself, I appreciate being noticed. #satchat
A4: A school is busy! It's important to stop and genuinely say, "Thank you!" For the little things, too. Create a culture of being mindful and truly grateful. #satchat
A3: A teacher @MrRussellTeach started a weekly Kudos email for staff to anonymously submit thanks and acknowledgement for the small tireless efforts of our staff. It is great to read on a Friday afternoon after a long week. #satchat
I remember being horribly embarrassed by public recognition when I was a teenager - loved it when I was younger, but then I hit that awkward, adolescent stage....#satchat
A4: sharing on our school twitter page, making phone calls, sending notes, an email, stopping by in person- no matter HOW it’s done, the important part is WHY they’re being celebrated! #satchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A4: Haven't had the place to do this yet, but I've always wanted to do a #lollipopmoment bulletin board and other fun celebrations around it! If you haven't watched @DayOneDrew Check it out! https://t.co/pKXkVmtbyH
A4: We have to avoid micromanaging others...celebrating should involve engaging others with meaningful tasks, and then giving them the space to lead and take risks. It won’t always be successful at first, but it will lead to great things! #SatChat
Time to start this busy day! I enjoyed reading everyone ideas and examples of how we can celebrate all the members of a school community. I surely will be going back to read all the responses to the final couple questions! #satchat
Side note - I often catch myself celebrating good work by asking those teachers to take on additional opportunities. Need to remember to celebrate just for the sake of celebration #satchat
A4: This year I wrote handwritten Holiday cards to all staff members who provided me with their parents name and address to celebrate their child and express what a difference they make. It was so fun to be able to do that for them. Inspired by @ToddWhitaker#satchat
We hold "success chats" with our struggling learners and put them no a structured plan for success. Part of every plan includes positive reinforcement to that student & positive calls home to parents/guardians by teachers, counselors and admin - good news is motivating! #satchat
A4: The best way to honor great leadership is to provide leaders with more responsibility and opportunities to allow their expertise to spread #satchat
I try to ask students and teachers at the start of the year how they feel about public recognition. If they say they don’t like, I don’t do it for them! #satchat
I like to praise teachers in front of their students, “I know your teacher is excellent, work hard for her” and “I had to visit because I’ve heard such great things about this class!” #SatChat
A4: A school is busy! It's important to stop and genuinely say, "Thank you!" For the little things, too. Create a culture of being mindful and truly grateful. #satchat
A4. Celebrate good leadership by being willing to follow! Encourage others to do the same. A good leader will feel celebrated when their ideas take root #satchat
We bring teams to board to share stories in a spotlight time, we engage kids/teachers in work sessions such as this tech expo to show our assets and successes, we attempt to learn from failure rather than always seeing it from a judgement lenses #satchathttps://t.co/sMBOZ2Cqqh
I used to think that. Affirmation can help leaders and good teachers know their frustrations aren’t because of them, but because of the system. It looks different, but validation is still critical #satchat
A6. Major improvement. No question. #satchat Today we’re running an EdCamp where 20 @OConnellHS teachers voluntarily came to school on a Saturday! @gcouros puts it brilliantly in the #InnovatorsMindset:
A4: Formal celebrations include recognizing members of the DHS Community at SC mtgs. Various awards...informally through handwritten notes, email, Friday Focus, verbally, during weekly media show etc. #satchat
I never said that folks with letters after their names make poor leaders. I said that poor leaders like to add the letters. Different meaning altogether. #satchat
A4: I think it’s imp that all feel seen and acknowledged and appreciated. Sometimes I worry about what is being said to students who aren’t on a proficient wall or who don’t get the class award. Not bad ideas, but want all of my Stu to be celebrated. #satchat
#satchat A4: A great face to face conversation that also centers around what else can I be done for you to continue to lead. Obviously the potential is there and we want to see that potential continue to do great things.
A4: We use #WCBPRIDE values that we promote for our students - Recognition is given through PRIDE Points, Pride Promoter Luncheons with the Principal and AP, Student of the Month and Dolphin Pride Assemblies - They key is having all the community support common beliefs #satchat
A4. If anyone knows me, they know I tweet out about 10-20 times a day and my kids tweet their learning as well! Gives parents a glimpse of their day;) #satchat
A4. I call it a celebration bc it's Awe-Some! I'd love to tell you about The Voice (not the singing show) these students attend committee and leadership meetings and will be accompanying T's on a Restorative Practices PD trip. Empowering S's to lead is a Win! #satchat
A6 One tradition I have is to write a handwritten letter to a former mentor or educator that has impacted my life positively & mail it during teacher appreciation week. #satchat
GREAT self reflection. Too often being noticed comes with strings attached. Sometimes it’s just good to say thank you and give those folks a moment in the spotlight without asking for something more. #satchat
A4: Tell them what you see! Find a way to recognize them. Highlight teachers doing great things to help others. Make recognitions part of your routine, but be genuine about what you see. #satchat#BeTheOne
A4. Each week our principal @patton_carl sends out a staff newsletter, in which we highlight high quality examples of teachers & teaching with Shout Outs! and provide a link to a Google Form where teachers can pay it forward to a colleague & continue spreading the love. #satchat
A5. It’s not rocket science, but people genuinely like to hear that the work that they do is appreciated. Students, staff, teachers, parents. Sharing gratitude in your private conversations *as well as* in public emails & meetings lets folks know it’s not just for show. #satchat
Absolutely! It was said well on “Young Sheldon” the other night. “My Brain has just done something impressive and I’d like to share it with you!” (Young Sheldon Cooper on “Young Sheldon”). #satchat
Affirmation happens all the time for good leaders--often privately. If a leader hears nothing but silence, there' a problem. If a good leader hears criticism, the accolades will follow. #satchat
A4. The primary part of a celebration should be crediting everyone for their work and contribution. Students should be encouraged by showcasing their performance, teachers should be encouraged by reflection of their best teaching practices. #satchat
Exactly. I'd love to find a way to reward success with relief rather than responsibility. Maybe offering a sub for a class? Need inexpensive but effective ideas from you all! #satchat
My favorite question is “what would make this the most amazing class you took?” Or “what would make me the best boss you ever had?” Those are my operating passions #satchat
A5: As an academic, I love to feature “real teachers” who do this great work everyday anytime I present or publish. In my new book, I’m proud that each chapter follows a tried and true NJ ELA teacher. Research is great, but it’s our teachers who practice! #SatChat
A5: I recognise great teachers and leaders by inviting them to take on mentoring and/or facilitator roles. “You’ve got a great system for successful reading groups! Would you be willing to lead a PD on how you got to this point?” #satchat
We hold "success chats" with our struggling learners and put them no a structured plan for success. Part of every plan includes positive reinforcement to that student & positive calls home to parents/guardians by teachers, counselors and admin - good news is motivating! #satchat
Q2–I invite school and system admin. and local media to class to join in our learning on special project days. I take lots of photos of the students during class activities and post them on my bulletin board. #satchat
A5: Thus far, the best way I have used recognition in my role in education is through my teaching Twitter page. This is something I need to work on and improve. #satchat
A4. Any staff member can nominate a fellow staff member or a student for a monthly leadership award. Powerful to hear how people are enhancing our school culture through their leadership. #satchat
#satchat A1 Celebrating Education is helpful to the educational process because when you believe in something you should also support it. How can students show interest and passion toward learning when their teachers do not? Lead by example, get them excited to learn #SatChat
A5: For recognition to have enduring meaning is must include follow up. After recognizing great work you need to provide an avenue for continued innovation and excellence #satchat
A5 - Personally, I use Twitter as my platform to show recognition to students and teachers alike. Ss and Ts getting recognition in this way allows their ideas to travel to a wider audience and possibly create opportunities for them. #satchat
A5: I visit classrooms via the #PineappleChart and take pix of the amazing teaching and learning! Post to Twitter and I spotlight it in a weekly newsletter! @TigerTownCHS#Satchat Cupcake Review in AP Psych!
A5: Sharing on Twitter, shouts outs at meetings, pep rallies are all effective...not surprisingly simple high 5 or good job go a long way too! Showing gratitude and appreciation goes a long way in keeping best practices going! #satchat
A5) Recognition builds relationships; relationships are the foundations upon which someone stands when they reach for the brass ring of success. So recognition is directly linked to success. #satchat
Q4 When students take leadership in our work, it is intrinsic in what they are doing. Separate celebration or recognition is redundant in that case although I will mention in class that they owned it that day. #satchat
#satchat is so motivating! Ts and administrators are out there doing good stuff for Ss and their colleagues every day! So glad I have a few moments to read how others are celebrating one another in their buildings!
#satchat A5. A thank you and simple things can make me happy. But I think I need to keep driving myself..not doing what I do for recognition..I want Students to Learn and Succeed
A5: Kids (heck, all humans) want to be noticed and appreciated. I try to offer activities in my classes that ask my students to take their best talents (art, music, written word, etc.) and use them to further the learning of others. Then we celebrate the results! #satchat
A5 recognition affirms values and realization of progress towards our vision - when people - adults or children believe their voice matters, they have agency, and they can influence - they themselves begin to recognize and celebrate the work that matters #satchat
Affirmations are critical, but be wary of public declarations of love. So seductive, and, sadly, so effective.
Good leaders do not *need* the awards (but will get them anyway).
Mediocre and poor leaders thrive on them.
#satchat
A5. My favorite is using the element of surprise! I like to catch S's and P's together & ask for a moment (regardless of where it is). I like to lay it on thick about the great things the child is doing. Seeing the reaction face to face is a reason to show up each day! #satchat
A4: Every great idea I see/hear abt from Ts & Ss blossoming as leaders, I create space for them to present, speak, demo, debug & teach about their practice to wider school audience. Everyone learns from Everyone! #satchat#ironsharpensiron
A5: to acknowledge the greatness occurring with Ts &Ss. Knowing that they’re doing something right, they’ll continue doing it. Other people will see/hear what they’re doing & can be inspired themselves. It’s about building a positive community. #satchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
We hold "success chats" with our struggling learners and put them no a structured plan for success. Part of every plan includes positive reinforcement to that student & positive calls home to parents/guardians by teachers, counselors and admin - good news is motivating! #satchat

Let's do this!
#satchat#sunchat
A6) It unquestionablyimproves the educational environment because people strive harder and do more with the possibility of recognition and then, seeing what is working, it leads to an intrinsic drive to find what works, what builds relationships, what causes learning. #satchat
I think I better make another cup of coffee if I am going to keep up with #satchat. So many great comments and ideas.. I can't even find all of the questions!
We hold "success chats" with our struggling learners and put them no a structured plan for success. Part of every plan includes positive reinforcement to that student & positive calls home to parents/guardians by teachers, counselors and admin - good news is motivating! #satchat
A5 When I share the amazing things our Ss or alumni are doing, I think it's important to recognize that their successes are due to the work of ALL of their Ts (pre-k - 12) #satchat
A6: I think “value” is more important than “celebrate”. Value intrinsically motivates while celebrate extrinsically motivates. Value leads to long term motivation and growth. #satchat
A5: I believe I recognize my students in multiple ways in my classroom, but I am always looking for more ways. High schoolers are all so different and some prefer public or private recognition, etc. #satchat
A6. Celebrating absolutely improves the educational environment! When we focus on the positive, what we *DO* have vs. don't, we operate from a growth-mindset & place of HOPE! Learning is a process, not an outcome. Let's celebrate that! #satchat
A5. Twitter, Twitter, Twitter- ❤️ highlighting all my kids because they accomplish so much daily, also ❤️ my colleagues who do an amazing job daily!!! #blessedandgrateful to work with such an amazing family💕 #satchat
A6: depends on the environment. Sanford talks about challenge/support and learning needing to be balanced. If it’s too celebratory and recognition, Ss and Ts stop trying. If there is no recognition, Ss and Ts have no motivation. #balance#satchat
A5: Discussions privately and publicly! Tweets, texts, emails. People need someone else to see that what they are doing is worth it. Shoutouts, celebrations, dance parties, high fives! All worth it! #satchat
A6: Absolutely improves it. Schools should be positive places. Teachers and students should feel good about being there. So many good things happen in schools, they need to be celebrated! #satchat
A6: Celebrations improve the educational environment! It’s human nature to want to keep up a job well done, especially when it’s celebrated. Using this to our advantage and improving our students’ experience is a no brainer! #satchat
A3 Ts encouraged to write a positive comment in Ss Diary which Year Coordinators check weekly, along with other school leaders.Staff could issue a merit certificate, which accumulates to a Bronze Principal Award. Further merits+community service led to Silver, then Gold
#satchat
A6: Celebrating learning and providing recognition absolutely improves the educational environment. It is a great way for students, staff, and the community to see the "fruits of our labor." It is concrete and tangible evidence of productivity and growth. #satchat
A6: I believe that it adds to it! Those who are recognized appreciate it, those who are not have something to aim for and those who feel they should be but haven’t will often ask why they haven’t been which provides an opportunity for dialogue that can lead to progress! #satchat
What a great way to keep teachers motivated! In college and as teachers we always talk about keeping students motivated but we ourselves are also people who benefit from things like this that keep us going. Kudos to your school! #SatChat
Does celebrating learning and providing recognition improve the educational environment or take away from it?
A6: Improves! @gcouros says it best! #satchat
Q6. Definitely add!! It helps everyone see good things and get great ideas. It inspires, motivates, and pushes everyone just a little bit further. ***Disclaimer. Artificial and forced celebration will have an equal and opposite effect. #satchat
A6: It absolutely improves it! When staff and students feel good about where they’re coming to work and learn each day, they can perform at their very best. #satchat
A5: my work is abt THEIR work. My life matters BECAUSE of them. Ts&Ss rthe reason. Love is the why. Recognition is abt authenticity. Want them 2deeply know they’re appreciateed, respected &loved. I’m the stage they stand on 2showcase their greatness. #satchat
A6: If done with genuine care and respect for all, it improves the educational environment by building motivation and fostering positive relationships. #satchat
A6: as long as the praise and recognition is genuine and the recipient is open to public recognition, then it can be transformational for everyone involved. If not, it can be damaging in ways that can never be reversed. Ts & Ss deserve honesty #satchat#LoveLiteracyLearning
A6. Appreciation and recognition are the pillars on which a growth basrd environment can stand and thrive. Everyone simply feels important and would want to take up tasks and make commitments to work that might not be theirs to handle. #satchat
A6: Guess that depends on what you want in an educational environment. Seems most of the celebrating we're doing is having its desired effect.
Heartening for many, maddening to a few others.
#satchat
A6: like coaching. If a coach cheers every little thing, complacency sets in. If a coach never recognizes success, team loses hope. We need to balance - both for Individual Ts and Ss and the learning community as a whole #satchat
#satchat A6 Everytime you’d an celebrate learning you are building self-efficacy and confidence in the learner. As @ToddWhitaker says, there is no such things a too much praise!
A6: If done with genuine care and respect for all, it improves the educational environment by building motivation and fostering positive relationships. #satchat
A6: The answer comes down to how we define school in the 21st century. I believe school is a place of discovery and growth. Celebration is a natural tool for both and, therefore, is CRITICAL to building an educational environment. Celebration reinforces our WHY! #satchat
A6: celebrating learning is vital to Ss & Ts further successes. We want Ss to be intrinsically motivated to learn, we must instill a sense of pride in their accomplishments. Teaching is often thankless, under appreciated, & underpaid. A TY or great job can go a long way. #satchat
A6: Celebrating learning absolutely improves the educational environment, but we must be careful about recognition. What are we recognizing? It's about the steps we take on the journey. #satchat
A6 - Celebrating learning strengthens the learning environment exponentially. We want to encourage lifelong learning. If we want our Ss to recognize that what they do in the classroom is important, we need to treat the learning process the same way we treat sports. #satchat
#satchat A6 Everytime you can celebrate learning, you are building self-efficacy and confidence in the learner. As @ToddWhitaker says, there is no such things too much praise!
A6: Absolutely improves - It creates opportunities to notice academic gains in the school, classroom, or even specific student along with setting new goals for the future - Always important to know where you are and the plan for the future #satchat
A6: Absolutely improves it. Schools should be positive places. Teachers and students should feel good about being there. So many good things happen in schools, they need to be celebrated! #satchat
Q6: RELATIONSHIPS. Critical for students and teachers in an educational environment. Providing a little attention to what's going on in the classroom and the building is a big step in accomplishing building positive relationships. #satchat
A4 Creating a positive learning environment starts with creating positive relationships. In this regard, please, thank you, congratulations, are all words that Ts should use regularly, in addition to formal processes.
#satchat
A6: Recognition can improve environment if done meaningfully with clear expectations and goals. When everyone gets a ribbon or a trophy just to feel good when nothing was ventured or risked, recognition leans less meaningful and takes away from the learning environment. #satchat
A6. I think we should celebrate successes & failures. Kids need to be recognized for #growthmindset and for successes they accomplish. Builds confidence/self esteem just like teachers -
We all like to know we are doing a good job-that motivates us to take more risks;) #satchat
A6: Celebrating learning and recognizing achievement does help everyone. It is important to make sure to find everyone’s strengths and celebrate those as well. Not everyone gets an A. But everyone has a talent. #satchat#kidsdeserveit
A6 it depends - celebration that elevates the whole is my preference but I’ve come to known that different people also value recognition and celebration differently - have to look to affirm as others want that - not as I want it #satchat
A1: When you celebrate learning you motivate learners to keep on pushing fwd. When you celebrate teaching you help teachers feel valued. When you encourage leading in students and teachers you move an entire building fwd! Culture and climate matters #satchat#allin4nb
Hebrews 12:11
'For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant,
but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.'

Q4–Teachers have the opportunity to present at Departmental Meetings and Faculty Meetings. I have asked young teachers to present with me at conferences. #satchat
Register for the 4th Annual Tomorrow’s Classrooms Today Conference taking place at Rider University on May 18 and 19. Seats are still available https://t.co/WgZ9zFNx71#satchat
A6: It improves as long as you are being real when you celebrate! People are happy to work with people that see their worth! Celebrating is motivating, but it has to be genuine or people see right through you. #satchat
A1. #satchat I always write notes. I write notes weekly to my students. I leave anonymous notes in teacher's boxes and I always celebrate our learning with a closing activity.
Register for the 4th Annual Tomorrow’s Classrooms Today Conference taking place at Rider University on May 18 and 19. Seats are still available https://t.co/WgZ9zFNx71#satchat
I agree! Recognizing actions that exemplify effort & perseverance in the face of adversity reinforce those characteristics that are critical to success! #satchat
A6. I think we should celebrate successes & failures. Kids need to be recognized for #growthmindset and for successes they accomplish. Builds confidence/self esteem just like teachers -
We all like to know we are doing a good job-that motivates us to take more risks;) #satchat
A #satchat suggestion led me down a rabbit hole to learn about student development theories. Hopefully this "cheat sheet" is useful to you, too, and encourages you to learn more! https://t.co/8im9iM5vNj
Q6 it depends. Praise can be affirming or it can remove agency by reducing the value to the praise. Also ritualized celebration can feel fake and forced. Being genuine and knowing the audience and the moment is key in adolescence. #satchat
A2. #satchat I always celebrate our learning by having a closing activity at the end. We publish stories, we make a presentation for our book, we simply have time to share with out classmates our accomplishments. Celebration is a great motivator.
