Critical. As a teacher, providing space for exploration. I wasn't the gatekeeper of knowledge merely a guide. As a tech leader, much the same. #divergEd
A1 I find a lot of teachers focus on preparing learners for meaningful lives, but we often disagree about what that might mean. #diverged like that is good.
#divergED solving complex challenges that have the potential to effect change in our future world. This requires critical thinking, innovation, and a curiosity to answer questions for which we don't readily find one right answer.

A1. It's so important to foster curiosity, creativity, and reflection - and the ability to answer "so what?" These are the tools that students are going to reach for as they make their way in the world #divergED

A1 Complexity, curiosity, creativity, these are great words and all necessary in an increasingly globalized world. But do we prepare students for these, or do they come to us with them? #diverged
This is by far the hardest part for teachers to relinquish control of. Students have an amazing capacity to identify these challenges if we only allow their voices to be heard. All too frequently, we push through our content without giving pause. #divergED

We often know what we WANT to do with our #divergED learning. What kinds of questions have you actually heard from constituencies in your school community. Again, don’t be shy!

I appreciate the idea, "Teach less, learn more." Until we give up control and the coverage-of-content mentality, the magic that we know can happen won't happen nearly enough #divergED

#divergED It can be summed up by more students than not asking, "Why do we need to know this." This speaks volumes about how we fail to give students a voice in their learning preparation. We have too long glossed over what really prepares them for the world outside of school
Q2: What questions have you heard students, parents, or community members ask about what we're preparing students for, and how we're doing that? #divergED
Are there more than one “Why” in those questions? Maybe even 5 Whys? (Why not like it was for me? Why not something I can’t understand? Why should my students care? The list goes on and on, right #divergED?

Yes, and SO MANY perspectives here? What’s relevant to one population in your school may seem irrelevant to others. Can be very challenging, but also opportunity for #divergED
A3 Some times these negotiations are one on one with a family. Sometimes they’re with well organized constituencies. Tell us about your negotiations! #divergED
A3 Bring people to the table. Give them a voice. Multifaceted communication strategy to meet people where they are. Face to face, social etc. #divergEd
A3. We need more places for diverse stakeholders to come together, like an #EdCamp. When we hosted #EDCampCU, there were students, parents, business owners, school board members, teachers and admin all participating in conversations, with none of them 'in charge.' #divergED
We’d have a very different end in mind, then @WeberEducation! And that’s really the whole point of the book, and hopefully #divergED thinking. What if we could hold ENDS in mind?

Agree we need to get more, even all stakeholders together @katrinakennett How do our schools really define their school communities? Do you stop at your walls, or #divergED all the way out to negotiate with the whole world?

#DivergEd A3: It's time to allow our Ts & Ss to co-create learning experiences with subject matter experts related to authentic, relevant, & complex challenges. These three voices create an ensemble that merges content, standards, the real-world, & student curiosity.
A3: Schools can and probably should be hubs of community and societal progress - let's provide multiple authentic forums for ideas and dreams to be shared #divergED

A3: The importance of family and the wider community on a student's education should never be underestimated, the te reo Maori term 'Ako' is linked to cultural competencies in our curriculum, which means the flow of learning and teaching. Importance of relationships. #divergED
YES @WeberEducation In the book I talk about imagining teachers as community learning organizers. We don’t just teach the next generation, we can define learning in our school communities. That’s #divergED!

A shift in mindset is a big part of this, @WeberEducation We operate in a preparatory mindset, and we need to shift to a participatory mindset. Kids shouldn’t have to wait to #divergED!
