Our mission for our 21st century chat is to create a positive 21st century learning environment for our students by sharing resources and ideas that has worked in our classrooms. Join us every Sunday from 8:00-9:00 PM (EST) on Twitter using the hashtag #21stedchat. All are welcome!
A1: 7.5 for me. Made some changes, developed a PLN, got onto Voxer, did a LOT of PD reading. Am just now learning how to do relationships with students better. #21stedchat
Between 7-8. Was able to get some new things in, had to regress with a biology class back to teacher-led as they were struggling with self-pacing (as in no pacing). #21stedchat
My year was an 8.2 - I did a much better job of connecting with students, but there's so much I want to do better next year #teachergoals#freshstart#21stedchat
Wow. I'd say it was a 9. I had a very sweet class, including three kids with autism. I am working on my masters, so I've been able to apply a lot of what I've learned to my class this year.
A2: Trust my students to execute more on their own! I am trying to get out of my control habits and let my students do more on their own...I've been met with mixed results. #21stedchat
I did a better job of connecting with my sophomores, but I need to focus more on building relationships and classroom culture in my more advanced classes - AP Lit and Lang - jumped into curriculum too fast #21stedchat
A2: I would like to give technologies like flipgrid and iCivics a more complete trial next year. Also I want to be more consistent on building relationships with students… Rather than timid about it like I was this year. #21stedchat
Tried out a hybrid flipped/self-paced/project based unit. Found the kinks and need to iron out. Also I would like to visit other classes and see what they are doing. #21stedchat
Q2: Next year my pacing will need to improve because now the students have had a year's worth of coding and keyboarding... I will need to really keep an eye on how fast they can go... raise my expectations and goals across the board. #21stedchat
I do a portfolio option for a final every semester for the last 11 years. The kids love it. Such a better representation of their learning. #21stedchat
I'm going to experiment next year and if my scores drop, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it - my hypothesis is that it will improve scores in my #aplit an #aplang classes, though #21stedchat
I have always been scared of doing portfolios... seems like it opens the door for a student to say “I didn’t learn anything at all this year.“ #21stedchat
I am looking forward to improving my pacing on our new ELA series. The first year is always tough. I started to finally get the hang of it in the spring. I think I will really enjoy the tech aspect of it more next year when it's more familiar.
Depends on the set up. I have them use either the unit test for each section or a selection of artifacts but they have to analyze what parts the did well and understood and what they needed to improve on. #21stedchat
Worrying that I didn't finish the lesson content in exactly the way that I had planned, or thinking that my presentation was not quite right. In the end, I think the students learned even if I made mistakes or things didn't go as planned #21stedchat
A3. I'd like to incorporate a flipped classroom model to help students preview skills/reinforce skills at home and build a home connection piece. #21stedchat
A3: I've been working with Google Classroom for my Ed Tech internship with #LoyolaET and I would love to make it applicable to the entire school and not just the people I used it with for my internship! #21stedchat
A3: Besides what I’ve already mentioned, to smile more on a daily basis at my students… Even if they are in a sour mood, more often than not smiling can be contagious. #21stedchat
Not so much me but a colleague and I got a pineapple board approved so I am going to visit more classrooms (I already drop in a few regularly). #21stedchat
A3 I plan to try using Google Classroom with my 3rd & 4th graders & preload STEAM challenges that we are going to do in the Makerspace. If I can get the premise out there before they walk in the door -they can start thinking and planning - it will save class time. #21stedchat
Not exactly new, but I want to have students blog more. More student choice driven writing + an authentic audience = way more engagement and motivation when it comes to writing. #21stedchat
Illuminate Book Study starts tomorrow! EdTech for Teachers class starts tomorrow! Summer school continues tomorrow! New round of 80 Day Obsession starts tomorrow! #IlluminateED#edtechchat#21stedchat#80dayobsession
It's usually as an introduction to new geographical areas to help the kids visual what it's really like there. There are a lot of great resources from google if it fits your content. #21stedchat
Q4 Is about your summer plans or dreams. What will you be doing to decompress, relax and/or recharge. Mine would be to sit on top of a horse in Montana and just breath. #21stedchat
A4: Make sure I get eight hours of sleep every night, work no more than four hours a day on school related stuff, and be the best dad and husband I can be. Oh, and massages every other week and wine tasting every weekend! #21stedchat
A4: I'll be doing this in beautiful Maine! https://t.co/MJU4dJzhXF I'll also be working summer school and finishing my M.Ed in Ed Tech..It's always important to relax and recharge! #21stedchat

A4 Summer plans? I need to finish a class and then work on VBS. Going places with the kids: Williamsburg, Wildwood, Hersheypark.... summer is usually busy with activities. I do have a reading list as well - but we will see about that. LOL #21stedchat
A5: Absolutely! I am reading a Val McDermid mystery right now, plus a ton of free Kindle books to catch up on. Plan is to read at least an hour a day for pleasure. #21stedchat
A5. I have a stack of "just for fun" books I've been wanting to read but just haven't found the time this year. Hoping to get through at least 3 this summer! #21stedchat
A6: I am waiting to start reading Drive by @DanielPink and Welcome to the Grind by @RandallSampson! It's my goal next year to read one educational book per month! #21stedchat
In reply to
@dprindle, @DanielPink, @RandallSampson
A6. I have many but these two are at the top: Intention: Critical Creativity in the Classroom by @amyburvall and The Limitless School: Creative Ways to Solve the Culture Puzzle by @abehege#21stedchat
#21stedchat I will try to do lots of creative stuff, too. I have been mulling over the idea of setting up my own website. That would be a fun creative outlet.
A7: Explore and Relax! Don't be complacent with how your school year is going- but also don't stretch yourself thin. Take time to recharge and further your interests to develop your PLN! #21stedchat
A7: some reading ideas for the summer and a renewed realization of how important Twitter can be for my professional development. Thanks everybody! Good night! #21stedchat
A7 I think that we all go into summer with the best intentions of getting a lot done - but you know how fast those weeks go by. So - make sure to recharge, relax, & don't beat yourself up if the summer days pass & you haven't gotten through that big pile of books! #21stedchat
Thanks for another great #21stedchat we will see you next week when @Edu_Thompson discusses Design Thinking in the Classroom. Have a great week. #21stedchat
