Welcome to tonights #prodriven chat! I am please to be able host tonight. We will be discussing the topic of #virtualpd for educators! Every 5 minutes we will have a new question. Please use #ProDriven and the Q and A format. #prodriven
Hi, I'm Sarah, a Digital Learning Coach from north TX. I'm going to try my best to make it through the whole chat, but I have to admit...I'm tired tonight! #ProDriven#CultureEd
I here, ya, Sarah. I’m tired too. But I got a feeling the chat is going to re-energize me for other things I have to get done before I call it a night. #ProDriven
#prodriven I have participated in many PD MOOCs and courses. In general, it has been a great experience that allowed me to be globally connected and part of an extended, supporting and inspiring #PLN.
#prodriven A1 I have participated in many PD MOOCs and courses. In general, it has been a great experience that allowed me to be globally connected and part of an extended, supporting and inspiring #PLN.
A1 I've participated in #ditchsummit, and am about to do #FormativeSummit. I liked being able to watch the videos on my own time and learn at my own pace! #ProDriven
A1: I virtually participated in the @Hive_Summit this summer and it was amazing - I loved being able to learn from knowledgeable educators and chat with others about the experience via Twitter. #ProDriven
A1 I've participated in #ditchsummit, and am about to do #FormativeSummit. I liked being able to watch the videos on my own time and learn at my own pace! #ProDriven
I have had a few not so great experiences as well, it depends on the enthusiasm and the excitement built around the online experience, and the organization / structure plays a big impact in effectiveness as well #prodriven
A2: As an introvert, I like to connect w/ people on a thinking level and skip the “small talk.” I wish to connect ideas and questions. Although, I enjoy laughing with people around me…even if it is at me sometimes :) #ProDriven
A1) We welcome everyone to join us for #CEduAD regardless of if you have or have not experienced a virtual professional development. https://t.co/9Eo10PEL7r#ProDriven
A2: I’m people person, so I prefer face to face PD to connect and interact with other educators (EdCamps being my absolute FAVORITE type) - but the convenience (time/money/effort) of virtual PD is magical! #ProDriven
A3 I gives the chance for teachers to learn on their own time, at their own pace. As a coach, I can then follow up with them to ensure they are comfortable with their learning. #ProDriven
I love the f2f interactions, but so true with regards to the $! things like #notatiste and #ECGlobal as well as #CeduAD are great ways to learn, and more importantly make #globalconnections that would be very challenging in a face to face format #prodriven
A3: they allow educators the ability to connect no matter where they are geographically, they also allow educators an opportunity that may not exist if it was face to face Pd, all done from the comfort of home - where other things may be happening at the same time. #ProDriven
A3: Can learn from ppl you may not otherwise have been able to meet in person. No distance barriers. No time constraint b/c you can participate on your schedule. Helps to flatten walls and collaborate w/others from around the world. Might even be able to pause/review. #prodriven
#prodriven A3 #𝓅𝓇😍𝓈 of virtual PD: Asynchronous & flexible access to multimedia resources and trainers, global collaboration , peer review , sequenced learning paths with feedback, diversity of choices , levels and quality of PD.
Q4: In your opinion, for a virtual Professional Development environment what are things that must be in place for the best engagement experience? #prodriven#virtualpd

#prodriven A3 #𝓅𝓇😍𝓈 of virtual PD: Asynchronous & flexible access to multimedia resources and trainers, global collaboration , peer review , sequenced learning paths with feedback, diversity of choices , levels and quality of PD.
A1: I participated in one. IMOOC. I liked that there were multiple ways to participate. chats, blog posts, youtube live videos. Also loved how inclusive it was and how much audience participation there was! #prodriven
A4: A safe feeling for expressing ideas, a mutual interest in the topic, an empathetic approach to discussions, a mindset that we are ALL leaners and not experts. #ProDriven
Q4: In your opinion, for a virtual Professional Development environment what are things that must be in place for the best engagement experience? #prodriven#virtualpd
A4: for me, there needs to be an interest in the topic and an intrinsic motivation to spend my time on the learning. If i am engaged in virtual learning and I am not in a face to face situation than that means I am really into it! #ProDriven
I believe that there should be a certain level of fun and entertainment with #virtualpd it can be a great opportunity but bringing some engagement into it such as #namethattune like we do for #ECGlobal is always a MUST! #prodriven@JaimeDonally
A4: Variety of ways to participate (youtube live, twitter, voxer groups, etc.), has to be flexible for ppl's schedules. Has to be inclusive so that ppl from different disciplines can participate. Ts, admins, support staff, specialists. #prodriven
A4: for me, there needs to be an interest in the topic and an intrinsic motivation to spend my time on the learning. If i am engaged in virtual learning and I am not in a face to face situation than that means I am really into it! #ProDriven
Q5: Are there certain topics that you would like to see become more readily available in a virtual pd format?
Why did you choose this topic? #prodriven
A4: @sew1080 Would you say that prep work or tips should be provided to make this happen? How would you suggest a trainer get those details to include resources to get them ready? #prodriven
Yes!!!! A feeling of a safe, comfortable place where all can share ideas is a great point.. who wants a #sitandget during #virtualpd !! #boring#prodriven
A4. WiFi. Mine just dropped. An interactive piece, even if it does not have to happen at the live broadcast, if there is one. An engaging host or presenter. Useful learning. #ProDriven
I think just as is sometimes done before Twitter chats, you can have reminders for ways to fully engage with the PD at the beginning of the video. #ProDriven
A5: there isn’t one particular topic for me but what has me participating in this #ProDriven chat is that it is about learning that people can engage in without having to actually be in a particular place to learn. The freedom and flexibility has me sold on it.
#ProDriven
A4 I prefer varied engagement activities and methods that are relevant to my work. The activities should be personalized and promote skill transfer. I can I use what I learned tomorrow. I also want to be able to connect with my colleagues.
I love that idea, and in the sessions I've been in at various events, feedback doesn't always happen. It's like the participants get what they want, but aren't willing to return the favor.. how do we are trainers grow without feedback? #prodriven
A4- jumping in late. I think a virtual PD needs a place where learners can virtually collaborate and share their ideas. I've used Google Classroom, flipgrid, slack, etc. as a medium for Ts to share ideas. You must establish a virtual plc #prodriven
A5. I like the idea of an Inclusion Professional Development for general education teachers and admin, presented from the viewpoint of special educators. This topic is slowly becoming more mainstream, and I have not seen much about it. #ProDriven

A5: My favorite type of virtual PD has been book study types of PD. I love anything relating to trauma informed practices, building relationships, culture & climate. #prodriven
A5- I don't have a certain preference for topics, but I do suggest you start with foundations and work your way up. Developing your "why" or motivators for teaching will give you momentum to grow professionally. #prodriven
A6 Both - we have to do compliance trainings each summer (blood-born pathogens, etc) that are all online. I am thankful I do not need to sit in the cafeteria with the whole staff to complete these! #ProDriven
A6: Definitely on my own. While I understand why someone might “highly encourage me” to try to new form of learning, intrinsic motivation is not NEARLY as high. #ProDriven
great point! another thing I love about #twitterchats are that you can always catch up later if you want, or need to due to time constraints for ex. and the conversation continues! #thisisthechatthatneverends ;) #ProDriven
A6 - PD needs to be choice not a requirement. I consider myself a lead learner, because I want to learn. I want to be better than what I am. We should want to learn for intrinsic reasons, not because someone forced us to. #prodriven
That is something I am very passionate about- how can I get pre-service, and/or non-techy teachers on twitter chats or virtual PDs! If you're not on these platforms there are so many things that you're missing out on :( #prodriven#weallneedsocialmeediaconnections
A6: Of course I'd like my own choice, but if it were a school requirement I would really enjoy helping others get more involved in VPD, live chats, book studies, and sharing all the fun and learning that there is out there! #ProDriven
A6. C. Sometimes the entire school needs to be on the same page. We are going through a district wide book study. I would not have chosen this book for it being mandatory, but I can still learn. I also like choosing my own. #ProDriven
A6: Even if it was a mandate, and I walk away with new knowledge and understanding that I didn’t have before, there is a loss of that sense of accomplishment too. “I accomplished it for them, not me.” #ProDriven
A7 This is the hardest part! If principals and/or coaches are in and out of classrooms, that is the best way to see the evidence of learning happening. Then, when you see it, celebrate it! What is celebrated gets repeated! #ProDriven
A7. Like with any new program, or in this case a virtual PD, they should pick out, and Ts should be aware of, key components of the PD. During walk arounds they could look for these as well. #ProDriven
A7: Hmm..I think this is we need to reflect on what we've done/implemented and share w/our colleagues. Then make changes if needed, reflect collaboratively and share more. #ProDriven
A7- As a coach, I can tell when Ts are taking control of their own PD by the kinds of conversations I have. Conversations are more reflective, insightful, student-centered. #prodriven
that is so true! and you gravitate towards those self driven motivated learners for sure! love it when people take their learning into their own hands :) and there are so many opportunities now, nothing should hold them back! #prodriven
A7- As a coach, I can tell when Ts are taking control of their own PD by the kinds of conversations I have. Conversations are more reflective, insightful, student-centered. #prodriven
A8: I see the accountability coming from my learners. Whether they are Ss, adults, or the others I am learning with in VPD. The notion that I have something to contribute holds me accountable. I must offer my ideas just as much as others. Be apart of the collective. #ProDriven
That is one thing that I didn't have as a teacher, anyone at my campus on social media using it for professional purposes. I tried over and over to encourage them, but it took them several years to finally jump on the bandwagon. #prodriven
Q9: What are some platforms which lend themselves to a collaborative virtual PD environment? Are there any platforms underutilized for this type of learning? #prodriven#virtualpd
A8. Sometimes, time in session, sometimes, something hung up on a bulletin board, or maybe a new skill that was taught. There are many ways to measure this. #ProDriven
I created a monthly newsletter (with the help of @KristinOropeza) - and in it I shared links to webinars in hopes that a fellow T will check it out #ProDriven

A9: Typical LMS’s - Schoology, Canvas, Moodle, etc. One feature for me in any LMS that is a non-negotiable is some kind of discussion forum. #ProDriven

oh I love that idea! What tool did you use? Would I be able to jump in on that as well? Do you email it out? I love to hear and see what is relevant in different Ts classrooms.. #prodriven#sharingiscaring

I participated in the @edtechteam teacher leader summer cohort and the way I monitored the quality was by what I gained - it was well worth it bc to say the least I learned a lot... that's how I was introduced to Twitter #ProDriven
A9 - I love Classroom for feedback and easy integration of collaborative docs and slides. Padlet and flipgrid are wonderful for sharing teacher voice and ideas. Slack is also a great way to collaborate and share ideas. Find something that is easy to get learners on #prodriven
I've become a huge fan of anything audio these days, voxer, podcasts, audiobooks. If I can listen and multitasks it is great! until I need to write down a note or too. #prodriven#virtualpd#favoritetools
Q10: Tell about a virtual PD you have participated in, or plan to in the future. what drew your interest to participate? How can we attend any future events by
this organization?
#prodriven
I was totally that person... didn't believe in social media for professional use until it was required as an "assignment" - I'm so glad I changed my mindset #ProDriven

For #ECGlobal@edchangeglobal we use @zoom and @qiqochat - if you haven't checked out @qiqochat.. do! it's a great place to have group discussions, and with the @zoom integration and wonderful support team there to help with any bumps along the way .. its worth it! #prodriven

Q8 Formal tracked in an LMS by the facilitator. Self directed via online communities, learning platforms etc. Can be tracked through goal setting, coaching conversations, and observations. What is the goal? What strategies did you gain? What impact has it shown?
A10: I love #bookcamppd for this! Check their site https://t.co/wjMaNYtKib for upcoming events & resources! Multiple book studies & chats, & chances to chat w/authors as well as guest moderate yourself! Lots of learning over at #bookcamppd ! Awesome #PLN ! #ProDriven
I find that when I've thought about #virtualpd and was going to be faced with the tracking of responses, it didn't end up being as effective as the informal, natural opportunities that other PDs can have. Just my experience with it though ... #prodriven
A10 I facilitate a bi-weekly challenge for Ts on Classroom geared around small, reflective tasks that is slowly gaining momentum. We use it to collaborate virtually and share our experiences. #prodriven
If you’ve loved tonight’s chat, PLEASE consider being a moderator :) Just get in touch with me, @MrsStephenson3 or @MegFrideres if interested. #ProDriven
thats awesome I will check it out! I know one of my friends @iamvlewis was speaking with various authors at #nErDCAMP a fwew weeks ago, it was cool! #prodriven
Yes of course! I send it in email but I would like to add a QR code so I can post it in our work room - I will DM you when I get home...we use Google slides. #ProDriven
