Tonight's topic is something so near & dear to my heart y'all; I'm thrilled to discuss teacher leadership with you!
>>> Q1: What does it mean to be a teacher leader?
Yep, give me coffee in the morning and I'm ready for my day!
A1 T leader is constantly learning and is contagious
Note: my questions only get more intense as the evening progresses. mwahaha
A1 - A teacher leader is someone who is willing to learn different perspectives and helps others learn from him/her.
I'm twatching for a bit π. Laurel Park ES 3rd grade.
A1: The second a teacher steps out of their "classroom role" to solve a problem in their school community is
Ditto! https://t.co/RJANIftA9v
A1 - A teacher leader is someone who is willing to learn different perspectives and helps others learn from him/her.
Happy to have yoU :) Jump in at any time!
A1: A teacher willing to go beyond the classroom and assist others https://t.co/cfjPN5iRhl
>>> Q1: What does it mean to be a teacher leader?
haha, just like something one of my kids would do! :P
A1 Being a cultivator of curiosity. For yourself, your students and peers
A1: For me it means not being satisfied with the status quo...and doing something about it https://t.co/QNcIsGDCKK
>>> Q1: What does it mean to be a teacher leader?
A1: Constant collaboration, trust & communication! Learning takes place from every1, everywhere https://t.co/8kXcZJHNm3

A1: sharing, modeling in school/classroom, contributing to broader ed dialogue, lifelong learner focused on continuous develop.
speaking up for others when they aren't comfortable doing it themselves
A1: teacher & leader, also a leader OF teachers. A listener, a doer, educated risk taker, collaborator, confident but humble.
A1: The biggest piece to teacher leadership (& all leadership for that matter) is an educator who's solution focused ALL THE TIME
A1 Looking at the big picture and curious about how things are done and constantly asking why?
Karen D'Elia, ITF @ Brier Creek. person
A1: a combination of taking initiative and practicing what you preach
Love the broader ed dialogue.
love it. "confident but humble" https://t.co/0EqD6JUWLM
A1: teacher & leader, also a leader OF teachers. A listener, a doer, educated risk taker, collaborator, confident but humble.
A1: Someone who is actively and positively involved in helping the team, the school, and the students. https://t.co/sA6mYl0l7n
>>> Q1: What does it mean to be a teacher leader?
A1: not being satisfied with status qou AND willing to create and collaborate on solutions
A1 Being assiponate about life long learning and is excited to share their learning with others and use it to take risks
This is quite a tall order to fill...But is two-fold: A job and a mindset.
Asking why is fine as long as one is willing to put in the work.
I see lots of people saying that TLs ask "why" a lot -- why should we be asking these questions?
Yes! Actively and positively impacting those around you!
Love the solutions piece here!
Because we can always be better. If TLs aren't asking, no one else will. Continuous growth required.
I appreciate you immensely
Many can't handle the idea as a means of growth for teachers & school. We can't expect outcomes, just watch it happen
Willing to go into other's classrooms to observe, leading professional developments, active at the district level,
Y'all ready for Q2? Hope so, because it's on deck!
willing to allow others come into our classrooms as well
A1)They're easy to identify. Always visible, communicative, & care about their students, school, & most importantly, the craft.
I question the "ask why" philosophy sometimes. It can't stop at just asking. Teacher leadership is more than that.
A1: It means listening to the needs of your student body, colleagues, and Admin Team and using your skills to answer those needs.
A1 , A TL is always seeking to be part of the solution. Sees the big picture of school improvement.
>>> Q2: How can teachers lead within their schools, classrooms, & communities?
Well said...very similar to my initial though.
Ts need to b empowered to b the profess we r prepped to b. "Why" is a huge part in owning your work & forward motion!
Late to the game- Lauren Genesky, Millbrook High School
Family time with my visiting parents. Next time & .
A1 teacher leaders are willing to collaborate and communicate with colleagues, students, admin, and parents.
Thanks for joining, ! Better late than never :) Just threw out Q2!
Being a teacher leader means working extra hard to discover and share useful ideas with your staff. It involves risk-taking!
A2: be open, be honest, be positive, and be supportive https://t.co/TWRBWzWcw2
>>> Q2: How can teachers lead within their schools, classrooms, & communities?
A2: Letting beginning teachers into their rooms, reaching out to admin & peers to voice compliments & concerns
A2 - Lead PD, offer assistance to Ts and Ps. Get involved in community events. Be open
A2: was killing this question with his answers earlier. Open your doors, show off, share, explore, create, build.
A2 T lead by getting activly involved at their school
Just joining the fun. Jill Harrison Berg from the Boston Certificate program in Boston. (Go Red Sox!)
And he continues to crush the answers https://t.co/DpsOjjcMmD
A2 - Lead PD, offer assistance to Ts and Ps. Get involved in community events. Be open
A2 Mentors for new teachers
Welcome, ! Hope you're staying warm up in Boston! :)
From here on out consider myself "ditto-ing" everything that says for
A2 Model best practices with colleagues, lead a discussion on practice, aid in professional learning of others.
A2: TL's empower Ss in classroom by creating a safe environment for them to expand their wings.
Love it. But. What happens if I'm not given the chance to lead PD or go into others' classrooms?
Have you used instructional rounds at your school? We want to implement it, but don't want to stress Ts out
For example, teaching other teacher friends who are also moderating twitter chats to Not Accept Cheesy Pat Answers.
A2 Being willing to take risks and share your experiences with your colleagues- both successes and failures
A2: With humility & conviction. I don't always get it right, but being willing to stick your neck out https://t.co/FgeBXhrrI9
>>> Q2: How can teachers lead within their schools, classrooms, & communities?
ok just got home and ready to chat
A2: Modeling {collaboration, communication, flexibility, risk taking} https://t.co/nZAD8Rh25p
>>> Q2: How can teachers lead within their schools, classrooms, & communities?
I'm Samantha. I was lurking, so I figured I'd jump in and start sharing. Not a WCPS tchr, but a elem sped tchr from Vance Co.
Planning periods to go in classes? Lead within PLT for PD? Start where you can.
A2: Teachers can lead in all these areas by willing to take that extra step and thinking "our" vs "my" https://t.co/5smPdQwR3O
>>> Q2: How can teachers lead within their schools, classrooms, & communities?
A2: positive energy, active contributors to schoolhouse leadership and thinking
A1: Teacher leaders (through many possible ways) help make us all better as individuals and as a collective team.
It's stressful :/ We are trying it but not there yet. @
man you're right that the questions get more intense.
You have to speak up. Let admin know that you need experience
A2: lead by being willing to learn - be open, be positive, build relationships!
Bring it on ! https://t.co/s1k25CP2fr
Have you used instructional rounds at your school? We want to implement it, but don't want to stress Ts out
And then observing their progress and complimenting them on their excellent growth.
A2 be an ear and listen to others.
YA GIRL CAME TO PLAY JESSE
A2: being vulnerable & tearing down classroom walls & inviting others in for feedback & engagement with their own students
Fight for the chance hard enough and it will come!
We're thinking by PLT so they can spend part of mtg observing and then reflect...
well hello. Want me to come over next Wednesday?
Q2: Ask Questions, get involved with the outsiders, influence positively where you are. Be bold in doing the right thing.
Principals must always be looking for leaders in their buildings. Teacher led PD is powerful!
Love positive energy. IMO, this could be the best thing teacher leaders can do. They change the tide https://t.co/Fm0JsgeXak
A2: positive energy, active contributors to schoolhouse leadership and thinking
A2: Have an open door--figuratively or literally. So others know they can come to you if they need to.
What are instructional rounds?
I am ready to see your class more, Lisa!
Alright, we're moving FAST here, y'all -- everyone doing okay? Q3 on deck!
r leadng evry day-in formal&informal, intentional&unintentional ways- evry time thy influence colleagues' instruction.
LOL you all make me blush.
A2)The simple act of 'Being Present' is huge for TLs. No hiding; Engage your audience! (Staff, students, and parents)
A2: Ask Questions, get involved with the outsiders, influence positively where you are. Be bold in doing the right thing.
A2: Learning all the time...seeking betterment...for Ss, staff, comm. leaders are the best learners & appliers.
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
Ask questions, and observe others. Learning never stops. Watch from other teacher leaders!
Love when principals get NEW teachers involved. Only way to build confidence.
A3 Programs like the Teacher Leader Corps I am living proof
Oh we'll address this a bit in Q5 :) SO GOOD
going in to view other classrooms and then reflecting. Learning how to implement something new
A3 pay attention to what your neighbor is doing in the classroom next to you. Encourage them to tell others
A3: Allow many opportunities for involvement and empower teachers as teammates in decision making, and not subordinates.
Not a bad idea...maybe model within 1 PLT who is committed to show how/why it's worth the time.
Awesome! Can you share more about that opportunity?!
A3: get out of the way https://t.co/PHQ78n7RYi
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
Care to elaborate, BFF? :)
A2: Be open, accessible, & put yourself out there. Inspire others through example, passion, & commitment. https://t.co/6a1cfhoB29
Agreed - it is a mindset - "I am going to contribute to my school, district, profession."
hot wheels loop da loops or we can continue on roller coasters
I can barely keep it! This chat is
A3: Encouragement! Provide mentors & materials needed.
A3: Let me know when someone figures this out. I don't know...honestly. What works?
A3 TLC had leadership embedded in the training and provided opportunity for PD to staff
All about it- PLT members rotate each week to share a best practice/mini-lesson...errryybody feels like a TL
A3 You can't make someone a leader. It's an intrinsic process.
A3: give them a opportunities! be open to the idea that it may not be "how it has always been done" https://t.co/2wtC9MsxMt
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
A3: Take time to talk with them outside email, visit their classroom and highlight what's going right, and put them up front.
A3: Lots of Chocolate π & providing lots of support https://t.co/lX6AyNNrxe
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
A3: You've got to give willing teachers support!
A3: spend time w them find interests give them space and tools to try something new. https://t.co/IXfxKHSvNu
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
There are lots of Ts willing to do things but who may not have the skill set to lead yet - how can we help them?!
Maybe that's why my answer was "IDK" because we've tried too hard in the past.
AND we have to create environments were Ts feel free to do this!
A3 Provide opportunities to attend conferences
What kinds of supports can be put in place for these folks?
A3: give them the opportunity to lead! https://t.co/rx7GXNsBJR
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
A3:ASK! Opportunities...I love what everyone has been saying about admin & veteran Ts reaching out.
A3 - Put together a school . Get's everyone involved
A3 trust them and support innovation - give them permission to FAIL forward
A3: MUST be selected...it's not about who raises their hand first. Clear selection.
Can you just throw someone into a leadership position though? Is that really helpful?
A3:In Boston's BTLC program, are supporting teachers to become strong . Whose profession is it, anyway?
A3: Make your school/district a safe place to try new things, even if it fails.
love the word BOLD! Absolutely!
reminds me of a song lyric from : "if you're not part of the future get out of the way"
So how does one get selected? What are the requirements?
A3, Listen, embrace their desires, and give opportunities.
Love how you're bringing it back to relationships! Find a common ground w/ T first to place them
What is a teacher good at? Many folks specialize in something. Allow them to shine
A3: get to know their strengths & interests and assist them in launching leadership. Passions drive learning & leadership.
giving them an opportunity isn't throwing then into the role..if they're willing and ready they will jump in!
And explain the reason behind the selection. Show you trust them but also expect them to deliver.
I might THINK I'm ready, but in reality may not be - so how do you reconcile that?
Having an IRT and ITF are two ways to support willing teachers!
First change your name to Trey and then become awesome and there you go
Let me check with what time works?
Right: Fail and learn! https://t.co/FLeHfWetbE
A3: Make your school/district a safe place to try new things, even if it fails.
already put in my paperwork
so many teachers feel like they can't because of some self-imposed sense of "but I'm just a teacher"
by giving them your support
ask if she want to continue on coasters or try something new
Also, not every teacher needs to be a leader. The faculty needs to fit as a unified organism.
It's all about building relationships!
Q3: Develop & support them w/opportunities that suit strengths but can also help 'em grow; provide feedback; listen & trust them
WHEW y'all this is rockin' -- Q4 on deck!
A3: create school culture of inquiry, risk-taking, transparency; tend to The Irreplaceables, elevate excellence in building
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
Q5 How does one become as super-special as ?
It should be. Admin must nurture staff growth, not expect different results using the same methods
HA, you got me laughing out loud at this coffee shop, Nathan
A3- Time set aside to collaborate with other teacher leaders in the building is also important
Admin needs to b visible in classrooms look for leaders - celebrate them & lift them up
Providing opportunities 4 Ts 2 spread their wings w/ guidance and support can help build strong leaders. https://t.co/0V76k7UXrY
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
A4 A huge role, one must reflect inorder to grow
Exactly! Feedback is key!
Relationships, it's the magic words in schools and I believe in magic https://t.co/nBBb1AAxYG
It's all about building relationships!
A4: Reflection helps you see yourself more clearly.
A4: It is EVERYTHING Being a TL is not about status, but about growing in your own practice
It says 40 minutes in he direction. We can stretch or shrink
A4: Reflection is an essential part of any career. The inability to reflect leads to an inability to change and adapt
Yes! Too many captains & not enough other team players doesn't build team. Everyone can "lead" own way. https://t.co/F9eeCX7To0
Also, not every teacher needs to be a leader. The faculty needs to fit as a unified organism.
A4 - It's the same as reflecting between classes. What can be better next time? How can you growth?
A4- Reflection is how we make sure we stay innovative and realistic about our strengths and opportunities to grow
So glad your part of this - are there any other principals here?? y'all... https://t.co/Ecl4Er9gad
A3, Listen, embrace their desires, and give opportunities.
A4 Hmmm... Thinking on it. Answer coming soon... https://t.co/zesSjh4Cqu
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
Providing "time" for professional development, setting up mentor/mentee relationships, highlighting successes,
A4 reflection is key to figuring out how to get better. I suck at reflection because I am always on to the next thing
I'm gonna be real honest. If you're an educator & you aren't reflecting, find a new job. https://t.co/3yAM6lYuLT
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
Yep -- leading doesn't mean you're in charge of everything. Leadership is the way you do things, not just a title
A4: YES! It's everything..I constantly reflect on my practice & my profession. Ultimately- what can I do? How? Who can help?
That's been in my for a bit to look at. That's for reminding.
A4: reflection is almost as big as relations! It's how each lesson/day is better than the next. https://t.co/Z9lfxI3KwF
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
A4: Good Ts never stop reflecting. We're like the sun! π
A4: Vital role: if not thinking & reflecting on what doing not truly learning & growing...just going through motions.
is that just a self-imposed sense or does our culture contribute to that sense as well?
I do think I reflect in my dreams
A4: Always keep one eye on where you've been and one on where you're going. Risking new things is nothing w/o reflection.
How do y'all like to reflect the most?
Shame no one else caught the joke.
A4: Reflection in any position is key and vital.. Reflection allows for daily improvement https://t.co/bWzfVrnR3M
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
A4: HUGE role; also relates to Q3. Ts need to be given TIME to reflect AND time to apply it. Effective admins get this concept.
Loaded question; I think it's a little of both but stronger from culture
A4: In 10 years, I don't think I've taught the same course the same twice. Constant reflection and making it better every time
I like to talk it out. This is when I ask the most questions. Reflect w/ Ss after class and Ts after meetings
I caught it. Most others must be asleep
it is guiding thinking in Strategic Plan objectives
OMG BRAD CLARK HEY! Agreed 100%
give teachers encouragement and compensation would help. Attending conferences helps teachers feel valued https://t.co/dOg7K2avPI
>>> Q3: How can schools take willing teachers & mold them into strong leaders?
A4: Simple...it is the only way to grow https://t.co/sQrzwqbgy9
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
Writing helps a lot. Badgering friends on Twitter. Asking kids what worked for them.
talking with other teachers in
with mirrors and sundials
Too many folks see 'leadership' as 'top-down,' TLs is about horizontal movement
I see this less and less though. Younger Ts don't question that as much in my building.
Alright, y'all. Q5 on deck. Get ready, this one is a DOOZY & my favorite question tonight.
A4, Reflection, what else would you do on the way home every day :)
A4 Looking back on it, I should have replied w/something about improvement, , https://t.co/zesSjh4Cqu
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
I agree that badgering others on Twitter is the best form of reflecting
It actually works as a legit, non-sarcastic answer to the question, too.
so hard to keep up with your stream of consciousness
agreed not so straightforward. Y we must intentionally build cultures locally that elevate strong Ts
Just started a blog (hard w a 2 & 4 yr old home at night) but always jot notes in plans after lessons.
blaze trails in uncharted territory. We're bound to make mistakes, need reflection to fail fast &learn fast!
Y'all better cool it with the sass
A5: Lead by example. Demonstrate the value in leadership as a growth tool and elevation of the profession.
would love to hear about your instructional rounds
edcamps have help leadership grow in other directions beside top down
Okay, Q5, THE BIG ONE, coming in 3, 2, 1...
Tell SparkleLord over there. My answer was a pun/double entendre.
>>> Q5: How can schools keep good teacher leaders from burning out?
I have Ts and Ss complete a Google form report card so I can reflect on lessons and leadership
appears to be reflecting on his own reflections! You go! https://t.co/oqovLO4IkR
A4 Looking back on it, I should have replied w/something about improvement, , https://t.co/zesSjh4Cqu
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
ABSOLUTELY! Ready for the net https://t.co/6C3n1fhDTr
edcamps have help leadership grow in other directions beside top down
A5 - Is it the schools that burn out Ts or the profession/treatment of profession?
speaking of reflecting... ??? π 2 yr olds...
A5: I mean this in the most sincere, non-sarcastic way possible: Give them fewer things to do.
A4: reflection is essential in any leadership development - self and with others. Own + data from others provides fertile ground
Q5: Compliments...and chocolate. Love a nice note and treat in my box!
I think it's gotta be bigger than schools. As a state and a country, we have to legit value our teachers https://t.co/7z3FL30XV8
>>> Q5: How can schools keep good teacher leaders from burning out?
A5: Allow chances to try new things. Branch out. Switch things up. Not get stuck in a rut. Listen to preferences
Yes. Yes. Yes. https://t.co/BDuUADRnpB
A5: I mean this in the most sincere, non-sarcastic way possible: Give them fewer things to do.
A5: Support. Valuing time and acknowledging specific responsibility/roles not overwhelming list of tasks outside purview
A5 Teach in a year round school!!! 3 wk breaks! :)
A4 When in twitter chat moderated by , reflect later! If reflecting now, you will miss next Q. https://t.co/zesSjh4Cqu
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
A5: Value them of course but more importantly..get rid of all the BS they have to do.
Definitely agree w/ you on that, but what can we at a school level or district do first?
Too many questions, too little time! :P
A5.2 One human cannot do all of the things. Not even .
A5: by trying to limit the # of initiatives that are implemented yearly and focusing on the 4Cs consistently
A5 - Limit the unnecessary. Ask Ts what they need and follow through.
A5: teach them balance w outside life, give them support, encouragement, lots of β€οΈ, & a pay raise π
So true! Teacher leader does not mean immortal tireless superhero
A5: Imagine if you took all the BS away from teachers. Bad teachers would be average, average to good, good to great, and so on.
A4: It may be what causes us sleepless nights, but is a requirement of servant leadership. Put others first always!
Get rid of the BS. YES. https://t.co/ZklQ6Q6irn
A5: Value them of course but more importantly..get rid of all the BS they have to do.
A4: Take time to recognize & celebrate their work. Create a culture where their voice matters. Embrace change.
A5: I think it's all about balance and not putting too much on a few people https://t.co/NSvH8TcIoH
>>> Q5: How can schools keep good teacher leaders from burning out?
That's why it's so important to develop multiple TLs...
Define BS for me. In context. :-)
There you are! You should definitely join us for one time.
Q10 How can we be as excellent as
A5: attending to them for what they already do, not just what you want them to do
Definitely! Goes back to the question of training willing folks to be strong leaders to share the load :)
WHo gets to do the developing, though?
A5: Give them space to grow, respect, a platform to lead, and support.
A5 Allow for "shadowing" and collaborative learning opportunities.
A5: Provide more built-in TIME and MONEY. And stop expecting Ts and schools to do impossible https://t.co/kxmQzbrzPX
NC State Superintendent Atkinson. - "We're asking our principals in many of our schools to do the impossible."
A5, Foster their continuous growth. Present them with opportunities that keep the fire burning.
And what reason would Ts have to be a TL when that's code for "more work, same $" ?
...and/or, allow them the choice of things they should do. If they are your leaders, let them lead! https://t.co/Lv5QU2Xye1
A5: I mean this in the most sincere, non-sarcastic way possible: Give them fewer things to do.
Is it already developed TLs? Is it "selected" folks like mentioned? Is it admin?
A5, Burnout happens when things get "stale"
Admin, IRTs to start and then spread knowledge across lines from there.
Anything that should and could be automated. Long, pointless meetings. Large classes. Testing and I could go on...
(I think you're right. But it's a legit tradeoff)
this this this this this this this
I believe admin develops TLs, TLs aid in their growth and the growth o others
Y'ALL right now I could spend the entire hour on Q5
A5: honoring their excellence by tending to those not striving for excellence
hold our higher ups accountable
Wake County Public School System happens every other Thursday
What does teacher burnout look like? Sound like? Feel like?
Passion for what they love.
how many items on your list could be solved in a short video
A5: Let us spend our time actually teaching instead of constantly assessing https://t.co/joSsRdj8vs
>>> Q5: How can schools keep good teacher leaders from burning out?
A5: Allow every T to operate the official WCPSS twitter for 1 day out of the year.
A5: Every 5-7 years, mix it up. Challenge yourself. Try new positions... like and . https://t.co/qmH8JzZknf
>>> Q5: How can schools keep good teacher leaders from burning out?
It looks like me walking to my car at 7pm after I walked in the building 12 hours prior...again in the dark
today is Wednesday right?
Wake County Public Schools
But to be honest...students be able to do the same.
Demonstrate value of Ts' prof expertise by designing roles that tap their knowledge as a resource.
Figure that out, catch it before it implodes excellent teachers...and then you've fixed the retention issue...
We need more coaches in schools
A5: provide quality feedback to help T leaders grow/develop - don't just assume bc they already excel that they don't want 2 grow
Tears, misdirected anger, slumped shoulders, melancholy
Student feedback is super important.
But could we be as sassy as WCPSS Twitter? https://t.co/zP02cXZv73
A5: Allow every T to operate the official WCPSS twitter for 1 day out of the year.
Explain what a coach should do for Ts
We need excellent teachers expanding their effluence to teachers not only students. KEEP THEM IN CLASS.
I was tweeting about that earlier today. I forgot what a sunset looked like
LOl - in a different dimension
I'm not just saying this bc I'm not in the classroom, but sometimes it's not about "keeping them in the classroom"
Burned out means Being plain 'ole tired!
Dang right...I'm burned out every time I leave
I just did a mid-year survey with my kiddos- always get great ideas of what they need
UGH FOR REAL COULD TALK ABOUT Q5 FOREVER but Q6 is on deck - our time is almost up!
you have to move up every now and again
I got the itch after year 3!
Q5: support, encouragement, & publicity. We need our superintendent to share the great stories. Media loves sharing the negative
Also, teachers have to have self awareness to know "the work" will be there tomorrow.
I hope our teachers hold me accountable. It will make our school better for our students!
motivate, help w/ instructional strategies, teach new practices
Very similar reaction to poor unsupportive admin. Admin can make such a huge diff in burnout! https://t.co/1PCpLxrT39
Tears, misdirected anger, slumped shoulders, melancholy
I love what I do. Am also a single father of a 7 y/o. Passion's not a good trade in my context.
>>> Q6: What is in place at your schools that cultivate teacher leadership?
Coaches teach new practices, model for other Ts to observe, then debrief with Ts
Yo, ya girl's got passion, but ya girl is also tryna play guitar & have friends
Luke, That's because you're awesome!
Right. We need some to become the that the rest of us wish we could work for! https://t.co/Hc0qvl5LxH
I'm not just saying this bc I'm not in the classroom, but sometimes it's not about "keeping them in the classroom"
One of the things I admire most about you is your capacity to change from feedback https://t.co/FwbqGwuQht
I hope our teachers hold me accountable. It will make our school better for our students!
haha...it's probably because I need to drink more water :)
A6 Incredible leadership with a P that can read the mood of the staff and give us what we need
Lots of neat stuff going on in around TL roles in schools
reflection sure occur daily. Reflection allows both teachers and students to grow https://t.co/NnjRvL0p4R
>>> Q4: What role does reflection play in being a teacher leader?
Why can't we do both? coaches who have one foot in the classroom and time to work with others
A6: PLTs, department meetings, BT meetings, one-on-one chats with peers in and out of school
To be completely fair, I'm tryna get AllieRae to play more guitar, too.
Same thing with administrators. I'd give up IRT to teach a couple of classes. https://t.co/PoveGpbf5U
Why can't we do both? coaches who have one foot in the classroom and time to work with others
this is my dream job :) https://t.co/V08lBTQBVK
Why can't we do both? coaches who have one foot in the classroom and time to work with others
I believe admin should be required to teach a class.
A6: An open door with our Principal, PLTs that work, and flexibility to fix the plane as we are flying with new ideas.
It comes back to the need or release time and professional compensation for TL responsibilities
I agree with this completely. Coaches need to know what Ts are working with :)
- though I saw that did a position like this for a year and felt ineffective in both.
A6 Trusting, visible admin that celebrates leaders weekly
A6: Opportunities to lead prof dev., becoming mentors, TLC, Dept. Chairs, Team/PLT Leaders, .. https://t.co/5bn08VlUVm
>>> Q6: What is in place at your schools that cultivate teacher leadership?
A6: great admin who gets to know their staff & strengths & trusts them. Also mentors, encouraging bands of other Ed.
Yeah? Would love to hear about your experience, Nick!
metaphor off the chain (da chain?)
Agree but not possible in current set up. Didn't realize that before. Same BS just in different arena.
A6 - Not enough at our school yet. If a T wants to lead, he/she can, but we aren't growing enough TLs at this point
A6: we have an open minded principal that supports new ideas.
Maybe two principals. One for instructional leadership. One that handles day-to-day. Thoughts?
Y'all, can you believe our time is wrapping up already?! Shoot me a message if you're tryna continue this conversation :)
Great models everywhere could lead TOO!
>>> Q7: Exit Ticket! The Final Word: what's one word you would use to describe your thoughts on teacher leadership?
A6: is influence and occurs through interaction. need opportunities to interact: CPT, PLC, ILT,1-on-1,etc.
A6: Wonderful Wednesday! Staff led professional development! https://t.co/CnjOvKy5Rj
>>> Q6: What is in place at your schools that cultivate teacher leadership?
The Final Word comes from your head (thoughts), your heart (feelings), or your feet (action)!
Q5:people first and employees second Family always comes first and always ensure 1st thing you say to them is not about the work
A5. Burnout comes from the noncreative tasks. Offer PD that meets Ts at their risk taker level.
Thanks for a great first chat with ya'all Off to get some paperwork done! Loved it!!
Though most T leaders do both, anyway- teach and provide tech support
A6: Part of our recent PD featured a school-wide . Some Ts lead sessions, sharing, risk-taking. https://t.co/yX9Jkn305q
>>> Q6: What is in place at your schools that cultivate teacher leadership?
YES! That would be dreamy!
Thanks so much for joining us tonight! :)
A7: Needed https://t.co/OoNc437l3A
>>> Q7: Exit Ticket! The Final Word: what's one word you would use to describe your thoughts on teacher leadership?
We got the tired teaching blues, but we get right back up and do it all again, for the love of the kids!
Couldn't agree more. Means more to me now than ever before with 1 year old running around the house.
yes! Promise lives in our SP around this!
Solid concept for sure. I'd be down to research/contemplate that more to flesh it out!
Love it; a principal doesn't have enough time to add new strategies and reflect w/ Ts.
A7: Evolving https://t.co/1a5LDtNVI6
>>> Q7: Exit Ticket! The Final Word: what's one word you would use to describe your thoughts on teacher leadership?
A7: It's complicated. It's important. It's a huge time commitment. It's a ton of emotional labor.
A6: We have a positive, supportive admin that pushes us to lead and improve at
A7 Reflection... https://t.co/tFnwasVPaf
>>> Q7: Exit Ticket! The Final Word: what's one word you would use to describe your thoughts on teacher leadership?
If you're looking for a read about teacher leadership, check out 's book "The Cage-Busting Teacher" -- great resource!
What do you think ? Can this fit in in our SP? https://t.co/wiB2zhnEw3
Maybe two principals. One for instructional leadership. One that handles day-to-day. Thoughts?

Q7: exit ticket word would be. Inspired,
Thanks everyone.
Q7 - Reflective - truly think this is key as a leader
Thanks for joining tonight!! :)
A7, sorry going to cheat with two words: Embrace and Foster.
We have the opportunity to do PD in that we are currently doing weekly sessions, multi. topics.
