#stuchatNZ is a student founded, student moderated twitter chat. Teachers and students are encouraged to learn alongside each other and challenge each other's perspectives. Topics vary each fortnight and are voted upon by a poll run on twitter. These chats are run fortnightly on Wednesdays starting at 8:30pm (New Zealand Daylight Time) by student moderator James Anderson.

Q1 - What is school culture?
A1: School culture is the way a school runs, feels and operates. School culture can also be apart of the spirit of the school
Q1 - School culture could be the traditions, vibes or livelihood of a school. It is created by the students and teachers.

Q2 - who develops culture within a school?
Q1- School culture is how it feels to belong to the school. The traditions, ideas and social norms of the space
A2: The students, teachers, locals of the school, external partners etc. all became apart of the school whanau and culture
Q2 School culture is developed by traditions and ideas that students, teachers and the local community bring to it
a2- The school culture is the responsibility of everyone. Culture is created in the little everyday choices we don't notice.
Q3 - How do we make students cultures respected in a school?
A3: By letting students know that their culture is so important. It adds to the school spirit and brings in diversity too
a3 acknowledging them and taking traditions from common cultures and incorporating them into how we function is a school
How do we let them know it's important?
A3 cont- Celebrating there holidays, food, being involved in bringing international news to light
introduce more cultural diverse classes opening up a range of learning opportunities for students to learn cultures

A4: Yes and no. It might not actually physically open up opportunities but it sure opens up perspectives!

I believe through the explicit teaching of feedback skills we can arm our students with the ability to feedforward ie.open up

Q5 - Do we need to change our curriculum to suit students cultures in their learning? If yes, what should we change?
Q5 con - having text books for subjects would be useful to other cultures. Or school translators to help students out
a5 I think we should be accepting of cultures in how we work as a school- outside of class, which is for learning not culture
A5: Changing the curriculum would change lots of other things too. Suit the cultures of students not all about whats in the book

Final Q - How could we teach the communities of the cultures a school embodies?
FA: Be willing and open to new ideas!
