#TeacherFriends INTROS! Where are you? Your edu-role? New here? Need Twitter support? How familiar are you with the Google Suite for Education on a scale of 1 to 100? #GAFE#GoogleClassroom
Welcome everyone to tonight's #TeacherFriends#edChat! I am happy to be here tonight, and open for any/all questions regarding G-Suite for Education! I live and work on Long Island- but my roots are in upstate NY. #edtech#instructionaltech#leader
Rachel. So glad to have your participation and insight tonight at #TeacherFriends I just followed you and I know others will be opening a tab to your link. Thanks for sharing!
Tonight we will be discussing all things Google, specifically the ways in which we all may use the G-Suite for Education learning platform in our schools. #TeacherFriends, you can find the main G-Suite for Education website below:

#TeacherFriends Q1: In what ways have you used Google Suite for Education to enhance learning in your classroom? Where did you start? What's your favorite go-to?
#teacherfriends A1 I like to use Google slides, Google forms, Google docs in the classroom. It's great that they are all so interactive and allow for collaboration.
A1: In our district, we migrated to a 1:1 learning environment three years ago, utilizing the G-Suite for Education platform with Google Chromebooks in grades K-12. G-Suite is loaded with many features- our favorite is Google Classroom! #GoogleClassroom#TeacherFriends
A1: My favorite go-to in google Classroom is using Google Forms for classroom assessments. This is a great way to give students instant feedback as well as see a breakdown of student data. #TeacherFriends
#teacherfriends A1: I am still a college student, studying education. However none of my teachers have actually used g suite. I’m excited to read about how you all have used it!
A1, continued: Start small and involve everyone! Getting devices in students and teachers hands helped move along the process! From there…training, training, and more training using the platform (G-Suite) is key!#startsmall#thinkbig#teacherfriends
Just a sidebar..... your #TeacherFriends are over achievers and up to the minute on so many issues and concerns. You'll LUV us. We are slightly addictive.

Love google docs! My kids type out their writing assignments and share with me. I love the feedback and conversations we can have through the doc. #teacherfriends
Our own Sylvia is an expert in Google and Kindergarten. I know that she is eating right now with the time zone difference. Be sure to follow @LWMrsParker for Kinder/younger insight #TeacherFriends
#TeacherFriends Q2: Have any specific Google-Suite apps assisted you while communicating with parents and /or member of your school community? #GAFE#GoogleClassroom
#TeacherFriends A2: I love using forms to take surveys or have parents sign up to send items for things like 100th Day. This is posted via @Seesaw, and parents love it!
A2: There are many ways to share/communicate within the G-Suite for Education- including the “SHARE” button in many Google Apps. When your school is part of G-Suite, this task is made even easier by remembering email addresses associated with your account. #TeacherFriends

A1: @BWileyPOB Great point! Start small! It is so easy to set up G Suite apps on a computer station, then rotate Ss through it. That is how we began. We have five to six devices, so it can and does work on a small scale.#TeacherFriends
#teacherfriends A2: Since I’ve never used it, I kind of have a follow-up Q; how do you suggest using g suite to communicate w/ the community within an inner city school?

Hi Emma- Within the suite you could use Google Sites to create a website to publish online. It is free and very easy to use! #teacherfriendshttps://t.co/fHcyqV8XHl

#TeacherFriends FUN GOOGLE FACT: Prior to the current name, G-Suite for Education, the set of Google tools for educators was called Google Apps for Education (GAFE)!
A2: I am able to communicate with parents with blast emails through gmail and by sharing feedback on individual assignments for parents and students #TeacherFriends

#TeacherFriends Q3: Google Forms is a great tool to use while creating student or parent surveys, are there any other creative ways you have used Google Forms in your classes? Within your classroom?
A3: Create a new survey on your own or with others at the same time. Choose from a variety of beautiful, pre-made themes or create your own. Analyze your results in Google Forms. Free from Google. #TeacherFriendshttps://t.co/urzeEzLqXG
A3: Google Forms have been used in my classrooms for assessments. Great for instant feedback for students and data analysis for teachers #teacherfriends
#teacherfriends A3: In my organization UNITE (Urban Needs In Teacher Education) we are hosting a networking night, where we send out a google forms sheet to schools to RSVP to attend!
This could be valuable in a class, for parents to sign up to bring snacks.
A3b: Similar to Slides, you can create a “Choose your own Adventure@ activity in Slides. Each answer redirects to a different section. FUN! #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends A3: Our high school teachers are beginning to use Flubaroo for creating/grading online tests/quizzes. Slides are created and shared with our district.

https://t.co/UUl8C9QnU6 It is an add-on to use with Google Forms/the spreadsheet the form sends the collected data to. You can set answer keys, and have Flubaroo auto-grade your assessments! #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Q4: How have you used Google Slides? Using Google Slides, what collaborative projects could be assigned to students to work together in a group? Do you have examples to share?
Yes, it is often still referred to as GAFE (Google Apps for Education). Google officially changed the name to G-Suite for Education last year... #teacherfriends

A4: With Google Slides, you can create, edit, collaborate, and present wherever you are! In our district, this is one of the most widely used tools within the G-Suite. While using Chromebooks, Ss can create meaningful content collaboratively, anytime...anywhere! #TeacherFriends
#teacherfriends A4: I think google slides is such a better tool than PowerPoint, bc it allows students to work on a group project outside of school w/out having to worry about their conflicting schedules.

A4: SLIDES in published mode can act like an App for your classroom. Just “link” your pages together. I loved assigning a Slide template and each student or group copies it for an activity. One doc, all your work! #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends FUN GOOGLE SLIDES FACT: Visit the following website to search and download new and exciting Google Slide themes!
https://t.co/rUlcoEupa8
#teacherfriends A4 cont: I also like that the presentation can be opened anywhere, they just have to log in to their account. Versus carrying around a flash key!
A4: I have had students use Google Slides to work collaboratively to create a presentation on Native Americans. Students learned how to take screenshots and embed videos and GIFS to enhance their presentations. #teacherfriends
Great idea Melissa! Have you had multiple students working on one Google Slide presentation at once? It is a great experience for students! #teacherfriends
I'll be honest, the only thing I use (as a teacher in K) is Google sheets. I use it to have parents sign up to bring supplies for parties :) #teacherfriends
A4 continued: Students have also been using Google Slides to collaborate on content vocabulary. Students create a definition, examples, nonexamples, and a GIF for the word #teacherfriends
#TeacherFriends Q5: Where is the easiest 'entry' point for a newbie to using Google Suite for the classroom? Overall, please share any other experiences you may have using the wide variety of apps and tools created by Google.
In Drive, you have the ability to color coordinate your folders. I find this to be very helpful. Also, in Google Classroom, you can now rearrange your classrooms in alphabetical order. This was a feature that was asked for a lot, and Google made it happen! #teacherfriends
A5: Start with Google Drive- it is the “main hub” of the learning platform that all other Google tools use! Start by creating folders, uploading and organizing your files, and even color coordinating your Google Drive contents! #TeacherFriends

A5: Easiest for my Word friends was Docs. My PPT friends loved Slides. My new favorite (outside of the Suite at the moment) is Google Tour Builder. If you haven’t tried it, Google it! #teacherfriends
#teacherfriends A5 I like to use @Youtube If any teachers want a song shout out for their class let me know and I'll do one for your kids. Have a look at my channel. https://t.co/8gQxJmJ8mQ
Yes- but if Ss and Ts start in Drive, they have a better understanding of where these documents are housed. I train teachers to always START in the folder you want to create the Doc, Sheet, Slide within...it wont get lost that way! #teacherfriends
A5) I suggest using a tool that does the same thing you already using something else for. Like, google docs to compose. Explore the tools #teacherfriends

#TeacherFriends Thank you for an amazing #edChat this evening, please take the time to grow your #PLN’s by following others in tonight’s chat! See you next week, feel free to message me with any questions you may have using G-Suite in your schools! #edtech
#TeacherFriends A5: I recommend attend a G Summit this summer. I learned so much! Teachers are more likely to collaborate and share through use of the Drive. It is a busy teacher's friend!
#TeacherFriends I am now scheduling school visits in FL for the rest of the school year. I also have a road trip to SC in mid-March, if you want to be part of that tour -- just reach out.
#teacherfriends this was incredible, thank you all so much! Also, if any of you are ever interested in sharing some expertise w/ college students, Indiana University’s organization UNITE is always looking for guest speakers. We even do Skype calls!
