A1 In all honesty...coding intimidates me with first graders so I have never tried it. I'm hoping to get some insight through #1stchat to make it less intimidating.
A1: I try to put coding in on an ongoing basis, so I guess I never thought it was important to do the hour of code. We try to do it all year, should I sign up? #1stchat
#1stchat A1 We have participated in Hour of Code for several years. Our whole school has. Ss love it. It's nice that everyone is talking the same talk.
I think signing up is great from the perspective of showing those that put it on that the interest is there. Agree that it needs to be ongoing though #1stchat
It's a world wide movement & great to be added to the number of students who are trying coding around the world. Glad you are coding throughout the year:) #1stchat
Thanks for the reminder that it's okay to take it slow and understand it, even when it seems like other Ts are better at it. I guess it's important to remember that about anything new we are brave enough to get out of our comfort zones to try. ::) #1stchat
This is an area IMO that Ss may very well know more than you. Go with the flow and encourage the problem solving and critical thinking skills that coding encourages. Ts dont need to be the experts #1stchat

#1stchat A3 I like to start by using a Beebot robot with my class. It is for simple programing. Some Ss are naturals others can't "see it" as clearly yet. But they stick with it for success.
A4: 5 years ago I think we each had 4 computers and a few ipads to share within the school. We are 2:1 across the whole school now and I"m 1:1 ipads. #1stchat
A1 For sure! I've only been teaching for 6 years but I have noticed there is such a big push to get computers or other technology in the classrooms to enhance learning experiences, coding being one of those experiences. #1stchat
A5: With a K-5 curriculum, Ts will continue to work on coding activities throughout the yr. Love to see the application go beyond https://t.co/3z8376O9vY though & embed into curric. #1stchat
A5 I try to integrate coding into math and literacy centers. By connecting to curriculum, ss get to practice both coding & academic skills. #1stchathttps://t.co/IAaBykY9Cw
