It's been a crazy, HOT, and sweaty day here in MA. We don't officially have a moderator tonight, but I've got some questions ready if we have some pirates here! Give a shout out, if you are here! #scitlap
Working on my matter curriculum tonight. Realizing I'd better include the elementary lvl #NGSS standards sinc my grade 8 Ss didn't get them yet. #scitlap
A1 I start the year off with an experiment. I've tried a few, but I love the milk, soap, and food coloring exp. Lots of oohs and ahhs to kick off the year! #scitlap
A1: Heyyyyy #scitlap! I don't have long to chat, but I'll pop on in! We "rocked it" with science today with the dancing raisins lab as a way to practice lab safety/the scientific method. It was my 6th graders' first middle school lab, and it was AWESOME!
A2 I always get myself involved in a ton of stuff, because I want to, because I love it. But sometimes I feel pulled. I need to say no to more committees. #scitlap
A2 I also need to say yes more, to planning ahead. I'm good at last minute, but again, I get so busy. Going to be more deliberate at planning my time. #scitlap
For example, signing up on the Google Doc to moderate my favorite PLN chat!
Oh, oops...I re-read your response. I'll need might need some advice on those committees. I just like being part of the change. #scitlap#StillWannaBeYourTwin
A3 I love Halloween as do my Ss. Just fun Dry Ice demos and cool effects. I also love the density column lab because Ss love it and it is really cool. #scitlap
A3 Honestly, it is gen an lotion, but the new frameworks moved them to 8th grade. Starting to like Energy...rollercoaster, pendulums, and heat. #scitlap
Well, @pentaclethra, my friend, I think it's just me and you with sniffly @SciTeach7Davis and busy @iluveducating peaking in. Shall we call it a night? You've got a big day tomorrow! What do you think? #scitlap
I have not. I think I looked into Jason once but didn't go further for some reason. I do like the hands-on experience involved in problem solving in RL. #scitlap
Real life is definitely good. Kids do like it the website though and manipulating variables and you can make it a competition thing too.....could work with gamification??? #scitlap

So, if anyone is checking out #scitlap tonight, we are just informally chatting about the school year.
We'd really love to keep this chat going, because it's all about Sci Ts taking risks to make learning engaging. We are better together, so please keep joining us each week.
A4 Great question, because they don't see themselves as scientists. I just immerse them in the role starting Day 1. I'd really love to interact with real life scientists. #scitlap
A4 When I visited a school in the Netherlands I noticed lab classes had lab coats for all Ss. How cool/practical is that?! I started getting lots of lab coats. Ss love wearing them. #scitlap
A4 (Cont.) Once we had a speaker at my school. He was a meteorologist , who worked for a snowmobile company. How the weather was predicted for the year, helped shape sales. My mind was blown. Neorealism of this. #scitlap
Sorry to have missed! I will sign up to moderate tonight. I will also respond to questions later tonight. Thx for stepping up tonight @pentaclethra#scitlap
A5 Hands down, my biggest challenge is the heat. It is harder at the beginning of the year, because you don't know each other well yet and we are just dying on the 3rd floor. #scitlap
Did I miss Q5?
A5 Biggest challenge is putting in more #NGSS and working in sci method and metric somehow. Planning it out.
Our school has central air. Was too cold a few spots. #scitlap
