The #michED chat is a grassroots effort dedicated to giving teachers, students, and parents across Michigan a bigger voice in the conversation about education in our state. We welcome all voices through a variety of projects, media, and social networking. We’re trying to address educational issues through apolitical conversation, spreading ideas and stories of success from Michigan classrooms across the state, and helping teachers and students regain the courage to connect and demonstrate that schools in Michigan are creating amazing opportunities for learning. We want the face and voice of education in Michigan to be a mural of shared experiences and positive examples of connected learning.
Hey #MichED, these @MSUCollegeofEd Seniors are hoping to learn how to do Professional Learning the right way, so they visited #517EdTech's Winter Gathering tonight.
My name is Ben from St. Joseph. I work for @MattawanCSD as Director of Curriculum & Instructional Technology. Please introduce yourself to the #michED community.
A1 - Event planning. There's an odd demand for events. Trying to figure out how to reach the right audience, how to provide real value for people... #MichED
A1: managing pacing and avoiding lecture. I don’t mind lecturing some, but it was taking a toll on me. Adding in Flipgrid next week, very excited for that. #michED
A1) So it's only been since Tuesday, but I've been stuck on finding more time to connect with peers in the peer to peer program AND how to best build capacity with the P2P. #miched
A1: Teaching accountability to both Ss and Ts in addition to figuring out how to push colleagues into the unknown. Opportunity is scary. It allows for both failure and ingenuity. #MichEd
I'm struggling with the Ss accountability. For some (nowhere near all), I get the sense that they are waiting for me to tell them when they are struggling. Trying to help Ss take ownership. #miched
Scroll through the #michED chat stream and engage one of the other participants. Ask them a question about what's going on, dig a bit deeper, or connect it to something you've experienced.
Q2: how do you help other educators become “unstuck”? How do you help yourself become “unstuck” when designing with problems and issues in the classroom? #miched
Don't forget to submit your session proposals for our 2018 Teacher-Powered Schools National Conference in Boston this coming fall. Learn more here- https://t.co/cSwfsQkX8g#teacherpowered
A2: This is tough b/c it requires taking a step back and honest self-reflection. Sometimes asking the Ss and Ts if the problems and issues are real and not a manifestation in my brain. #MichEd
Q2: how do you help other educators become “unstuck”? How do you help yourself become “unstuck” when designing with problems and issues in the classroom? #miched
A2: Specifics: I don't take failure too personally. What can I take away from it? How can I do better? I can control me and from there help others.
If other Ts are "unstuck" listen. Ask Qs. But really listen. I offer advice too soon. #miched
A2: I would seek the help of my colleagues and possibly research some ideas. If anyone came to me, I would offer my best ideas, or recommend they do the same. #michED#TED108

Hi #MichED. Just joining. Craig from Holland/Kent ISD. A2: Help others get unstuck by being kind and supportive. That is actually a recipe for preventing said stuckness.
A3: Okay, I think Winter gets a bad rep. We live in Michigan where ice caves, cross country skiing & snowshoeing are bountiful. What best gets me "unstuck" from the winter funk is being outside & experiencing it.
That being said I'm excited for MACUL. #MichEd
A3: This is the time of year in Calculus where the pieces are starting to click for the students.
I also love how hands-on my Trigonometry unit has become. Using compasses and transits to learn about vectors and angles of elevation. #miched
A3: I am focusing on keeping my mind on winter. Looking for time to get out and roll in the snow. Gotta find ways to appreciate it or risk suffering. #miched
A3: I’m looking forward to skiing as much as possible the rest of this winter. Also, to work with my department on setting expectations for writing for online Ss. #miched
Q4: Alright, so people are reminding me that Winter in Michigan is awesome! What's you're favorite "winter" activity and/or learning with students? #michED

A4: A 1st grade classroom and I had a wonderful chat about polar bears and how we've created ice boots to walk around on using biomimicry and the design process. #MichEd

Q5: Thank you everyone for a nice slow, community chat this evening. Every once and awhile it's nice to slow down and connect with others about what's going on in their lives. #michED

This is a problem that #MichED needs to solve. I have never taught in a school with a certified librarian, and that is unfair to each and every student that I have ever taught.
