Hi everyone! I am a MAT student at Converse and I work at an elementary school as well. Our last 1/2 day is June 4th. #1stchat; #conversechat; @JuliePJones
A1: I am currently benchmarking my students' reading skills and most are improving by 3+ levels. That was pleasant for me to see as we have had some struggles this year. #1stchat
A1: The academic growth is first grade is awesome, but what I love is they are confident with their abilities now and see themselves as readers with many talents #1stchat
A1 My students have matured in so many areas. They have developed growth mindset & curiosity in many things. I'm so excited to see our wonder board is always full of wonders! #1stchat
A1: Ss growth is amazing. This is the end of my K/1 loop. We went from not being able to write our name to writing complete stories with character dialogue. #1stchat
A1: I am a 2nd gr teacher, so I see things from a little different perspective. I have seen them learn to love reading. They are engaged learners now (mostly) and have made huge gains in fluency. #1stchat

A1: My students have grown so much academically and social. I am so proud of them. Their abilities to problem solve before getting an adult involved is amazing as well. They also have learned to verbalize their feelings and needs. #1stchat.
A1: cont... I do see growth in SES skills as well which is where we have had to spend a lot of teaching moments this year. Often times, I don't see that as clearly as others, so when other teachers tell me, I am even happier than with the academics. #1stchat
A1 my Ss have grown so much as readers and writers...several are now writing their own books! We have also grown a lot in our use of technology- it has been a great year. #1stchat
My first looping group graduated last year. Seeing them at graduation made me want to loop again. You get to know them so much when you loop. @Woods1stgrade you will love looping! #1stchat
Good for you! I have K for 1/2 a week and sometimes I team teach with the K teacher, but first is as low as I can go for all day every day-so I will cheer you on!! #1stchat
Hello #1stchat Haven’t been here in awhile. Faige sub teacher in Los Angeles. I been so lucky to sub quite often in 1st grade and am blown away at their growth
A1 On the flip side. I have to get myself mentally ready for September. I tend to savor all of that growth and when school starts back in the fall, my reaction is usually...Yikes!!! Lol #1stchat
A2: Spring fever has hit. We are at the stage of fighting like siblings and forgetting all rules and expectations. We started an ABC countdown and that has helped with the focus some. Getting out allowing for extra brain breaks.
Fun end of the year activities. #1stchat
A2: I"m reading Empower and I thought I"d ask my Ss tomorrow what we want to learn these last 13 days or how they could show me what they've learned this year #1stchat
Our students are self-contained . Their growth has been wonderful! They have come so far with reading and math. What is even greater is that they see their growth and are so proud of how far they have come.#1stchat; #conversechat; @juliepjones#1stchat
A2: Jane here and popping in late, but we skipped spring and went straight to summer fever here in Kansas. Kids are loving this hot weather. Trying to get outside often! #1stchat
A2: I would imagine students would be getting spring fever. This would be a great time to bring in multiple readers theatre, science demonstrations, experiments, and anything hands on! #1stchat#conversechat
A2: Yes they are. Since we had our last snow just 2 weeks ago and then rain/cold, the warm weather is finally bringing out the crazies! We don't count down days, we make the days count. Starting a dinosaur unit with learning choices has helped. #1stchat
A2 Our students are definitely getting spring fever. We are staying consistent and really pressing into them that we still have goals to meet. #1stchat; #conversechat; @JuliePJones

I know. I love all my parents too. Luckily I will have some siblings next year. I told my parents I was going to schedule them for conferences next year just to say "hi". I'm having separation anxiety. #1stchat
#1stchat A1: my students growth has been amazing to see as a k1st combination! The kids advocating for themselves is powerful when they can art8culate what they need to learn and how they choose to do it! Growing learners based on people instead of numbers!
#1stchat a3...i think I will have the kids plan how they would like to spend the remainder of the school year together...they can plan something special or out of the routine. They will have ideas that I can support them in!
I think that’s a great idea! They could work in small groups. Would give you so much information not only on skills, but their thinking of what’s important to say. #1stchat
A4: Next school year I’ll be Student Teaching in the fall, I’m so excited and can’t wait! I want to do as many fun hands on activities, demonstrations, and experiments as possible! I hate the idea of students sitting in desks the whole school day. #1stchat
A4: I am moving up to 3rd again, so lots of thought this summer for integrating SCI/SS into reading and writing. Maybe theme kind of teaching! Going deep and lots more writing! #1stchat Never fully grasped our Hour of Empower this yr. I need to find a way. #1stchat
A4: I am eliminating pencil boxes and having a community supply center. I know I will need to be more organized to say what supplies will be needed for each activity. I am going to use picture cards put up in advance. #1stchat
This year I did mini breakouts in September to teach kids how the locks & code work. Each one had only 2 locks to unlock. It was less chaotic & taught them how to work as a team as well. #1stchat
A4 I want to up my game in using tech to help me differentiate so creating screen recordings of enrichment or intervention follow up lessons so I can be in more than one place at a time! #1stchat
#1stchat a4 after teaching a combination of kindergarten and k/1st combination for years, I get to shift to 2nd graders! I am thrilled for the opportunity to grow in another grade and experience more independence and creativity for us all to learn together!
I chose 5 anchor picture books. Ss picked which one they will host. They will read the book, do a writing activity & math lesson or game then craft or other activity. #1stchat
I am going to ask the kids to bring a travel size soap dish for crayons. I am kind of picky about my crayons, and I know kids are too, but everything else will be community. #1stchat
A4 Helping students with discussion/conversation techniques during read aloud with accountable talk. I want students to lead the entire conversation without my help or interference. #1stchat
