For the Android Devs, there was a tip to remove tabs in Android Studio and just use the recents/open file command. It honestly feels so much better to me. I already hoard Chrome tabs, I don't need to do the same in AS. https://t.co/mN3nlAkwNV#DevDiscuss

*takes a deep breath*
- VS Code (for web stuff).
- IntelliJ IDEA (Java/Kotlin).
- Docker (to use SQL Server on macOS).
- DataGrip (to manage my SQL Server database).
- Android Studio.
- Rider (for C#).
- Alfred, to quickly search for stuff on my machine or the web.

ConEmu and AutoHotkey. My powershell prompt and a few modules used to take forever to load so I keep one on Ctrl+Tilda. Bash from the WSL gets mapped to a new ConEmu window on Ctrl+Alt+T via AutoHotkey. #DevDiscuss

My notebooks a habit I picked up as a researcher are physically important, I know where various things are written down and can put my hands on it offline for eg on the phone very quickly. #DevDiscuss
Also they have odd historical oddities in them like the last note I wrote my mum, with her reply underneath when it was the nearest paper to hand. #DevDiscuss
- Where's that thing? Find / grep
- Change that thing! Vim, sometimes sed
- Save or undo that thing! β¨β₯οΈπGitπβ₯οΈβ¨(though any VCS is better than none)
I do not yet have strong debugger skills but they're indispensable for more code-heavy roles than mine.

Coming from @sap background, I initially had just the ABAP Workbench. Then got introduced to workflow builder in ABAP. Then ODATA service builder. Then came #HANA studio.
Now we have WebIDE full stack on @Sapcp that does everything needed for modern development.

I commit everything to @GitHub to avoid the headache of *not* committing to git π and I enjoy interacting with Python scripts in @ProjectJupyter. #DevDiscuss

Todo lists and well filled out Jira tickets are number one for me. Also, having a well setup dev environment (code editor of choice, docker/other local server of choice, etc.) works wonders.
Sass variables are a huge time saver for me as well. #DevDiscuss

I use https://t.co/WUzy6m7adH instead of bash/zsh because everything is already setup out of the box (autocomplete is π₯). It's not POSIX-compliant, but I run it on top of bash, so I can just Ctrl+D and drop down into POSIX-land worst case scenario. #DevDiscuss

I would be lost without a proper editor with syntax highlighting and auto-indent. Notepad++/Kate/Vim.
Further I need Bash or similar terminal, with easy access to GCC and other tools & dependencies :)

Plus I think sleep should get extra emphasis since too often it's seen as unproductive and a waste of time. Bad sleep makes every other trick useless #devdiscuss
I also go against the flow and keep two physical to do lists on notepads. One for things that need done this week and one for things I can tackle eventually. #DevDiscuss
Putting the ops in devops:
SSH, in certain cases Mosh. Screen or tmux for persistent, optionally shared sessions on remote hosts (think etherpad for local users). Containers + good test-before-deploy workflow can decrease need for live debugging in prod though #DevDiscuss
I seem to have forgotten the second level of tools on Windows - the things that should be built in but aren't (yet):
Gow, putty, any decent ftp client
#DevDiscuss
#DevDiscuss My #dev setup:
- Thinkpad X220 + NexStand + MX Master 2s + Apple keyboard
- Atom w/ prettier-atom
- Insomnia for testing GraphQL
- DataGrip for figuring out what my code did to my database
- GitKraken (because SourceTree+Github client drove me up the wall)
- Spotify
MacVim, my git archived base bashrc and vimrc. (Vim-plug handles the rest)
Then iterm2, Brew, Hazel, Amphetamines & Alfred.
Then I round it out with moretools, thefuck, typora, and whatever language specific things I need at the moment. (Lein, eclipse, node, etc)
#DevDiscuss
I use Neovim exclusively for development as it's the only editor that does not cause wrist pain for me. Together with a few Language servers, I never miss anything
I also use Docker, the silver searcher and tmux. Works very well, use a mouse ~4 times a day

Google. Stack Overflow. Breakpoints and stack trace for debugging. Really lightweight text editor or paper for ad hoc notes. Communication skills. Empathy. Anything else is gravy, and the exact tools have changed over time. #DevDiscuss
#DevDiscuss Iβve recently gotten into dotfiles and theyβve made my life easier. Docker too. Next purchase is @bphogan βs TMUX book. Lots of small automations. Also: βΉοΈ dev Discuss is now after my bedtime.

As for workflow, switch on the music player, turn on the pomodoro timer, pick an issue from the tracker, open docs/resources, start creating, and take break when the timer dings (e.g., walk away from desk, quick email check, peek at @Twitter) :) #devdiscuss

Many folks are mentioning a specific editor. Understanding the editor you're using, all the features, how to enhance it and make it work for you and not the other way around is key. It's helpful to try out different editors from time to time as well. #DevDiscuss
Emacs (with evil keybindings), Tmux, Docker and a terminal emulator that drops from the top edge when pressing one key is my basic package. First things I configure on a new machine. #DevDiscuss

Slack
IDEs: IntelliJ, Sublime
Notepad++
Postman
Chrome Plugins(Yeah! They also do π)
Adblock Plus, Grammarly for Chrome, New Tab Notes 0.2.2, Google Keep
Mobile Apps: Slack, Toggl, Saavn, StackOverflow, Pomodoro

#DevDiscuss If you use screen regularly, consider checking out https://t.co/zFcum8AIj3 . Having a couple of dozen panes in one window and having your keystrokes go to each pane at the same time is awesome!
To be on topic:
Insomnia for mocking GraphQL
Gitkraken for an amazing GitHub client
Atom w/ prettier-atom for never worrying about syntax or formatting ever again
DataGrip for debugging what my migrations did to the database
Chrome + React Dev tools to wrap up #DevDiscuss
I see the primary players for writing code sticking around with maybe a couple others popping in there with more intuitive (or gimmicky, who knows) features on the way. Which will likely just feed into the "my editor is better than yours" war. #devdiscuss
bash, vim, tmux. my main laptop is Gentoo and servers are FreeBSD, so ZFS Jails and Dtrace. Firefox is amazing! Elixir and Erlang. OpenSSH is a must. what makes me work really fast is WindowMaker and it's flexibility. also make and sh for automation. #DevDiscuss

My editor jam is NeoVim with vim-plug over Tmux executed via Fish run via iTerm2 with vim-airline to make it pretty. I canβt live without Dash (especially with TLDR pages) and Alfred workflows. Also use Text Expander, Trello, and Chrome with Toby to manage tabs. #DevDiscuss
Was looking at an application recently where the team used jira so I started to look at it. Any #gamedev use this in your toolset? It looks awesome but what's your experiences? #DevDiscuss

I don't know much about Web Assembly (WASM) except for some high-level stuff, but it will be a game changer for applications on the web. Being able to write more performant code for parts of your app with different languages. π₯ https://t.co/l9o6EJfQAk#devdiscuss
