A1: One is the most common traits I see from Ss(even in 1st) succeeding through adversity is adaptability! The ability to make the most of any situation instead of being overrun by it. #eduAR
A1: the ability to see life long-term, to see the forest AND the trees, to lean into tough mess and know that something is better on the other side, to be willing to find the meaning in our suffering & adversity so that we can pay it forward #eduAR
A1 We need to believe in ourselves, know that there is always a way. We need to have a positive outlook, to know empathy and to be kind (with ourselves and others). We need to do what it takes, no matter what, no matter how many times! #eduAR
A1~ strength, clarity, supportive people in your corner, willingness to do better, humble ~ mindset that we cannot do " it" alone and allow others to help #eduAR
A1c I was told in HS after a car wreck that shook me; this is not the end-all-be-all, you will get pass this...for some reason those words ring any time an obstacle surfaces #eduar
Yes to ALL of this! As adults WE see the big picture...we need to guide our students’ little mind to focus on what’s important and what’s valuable #eduAR
#eduAR A1a Us it skill or attitude that gets us over the adversity? I am between tribes atm, finding a new place kinda.. a pocketful of skills n I came up empty. Being positive, head-up gets me through.
A2- I remember arriving at a crossroads where I needed to make a difficult decision regarding my future as an educator. However, by staying patient and keeping the faith, things worked out and I remained able to stay involved in the industry that I love. #EduAR
A2: 10 years ago, I was living in poverty/surviving on food stamps & gov't assistance, single parenting 2 boys. I decided to fight for a different life. 2 years later, I graduated with my BA in History & started teaching. 3 yrs later, I earned my MA. The rest is history! #eduAR
A1: Graduating from college was a huge thing for me. We were so poor, and I worked full time and went to school. I grew up without much, but had wonderful parents who cheered me on as I became the first in my fam to graduate from college. #EduAR
A1: To write the narrative of adversity in first-person reflective voice. The narrative inside can look vastly different on the outside when the words hurting inside begin healing now from the outside. Pain to Page. Owning the narrative. I author my story and its resolve. #eduar
A2: I was plucked from a classroom 20 yrs ago and offered the job as the Head of a small international school. Along w a great team, I stared down adversity and stayed for a record number of years! #EduAr
A2: taking on a class that was not successful and finding ways to show that any student can be successful regardless of stereotypes and negativity! #eduAR
A2: I was dismissed from UMiami (academically) but bounced back from it to get by B.S. from @MDCollege and was on the Presidents list every semester except 1. #EduAR
A2: I couldn't land a teaching job for three years after college due to relocating to a new state and reciprocity issues. Didn't stop me from hoping and dreaming! Now it's year 21 in education for me! Keep chasing those dreams, no matter how long it takes! #EduAR
A1: Def not a dirty word but sometimes redundant Especially in spaces where GRIT is commonplace for Ss whose whole lives are hard struggled difficult & adverse. They’ve always known adversity, grit is natural 4them so what’s Their ‘next thing’ #EduAR
A2 As a new teacher, I was constantly beaten down for my age, my divergent thinking & my questioning of status quo. I started of going back to conformity, but soon learned that no matter what, I could not change who I was. I kept going forth against current. Best learning. #eduAR
#EduAr A2 Wanting something that doesn’t come to fruition can be really tough, but as time goes on, you realize it wasn’t supposed to be. “If it didn’t open, it wasn’t your door!” @Jennifer_Hogan
A2: 4 years ago I had a rougher class plus my own child in the class. I was also burned out from leading many groups and then I was attacked by a fellow teacher for trying to be a leader and having an opinion. I surrounded myself with true friends. #EduAR
A2 leaving a tenured T position in NC 4 years ago to move to NJ; no job lined up; pieced together a part time T job + 2 other part time jobs to provide for my infant & his mom was rough sailing while also finishing my first master's #eduAR
A2: Easy. At 25 I was tending bar in a small town when I came to a moment of realization that this was not how I would tend to people. I quit and took an entry level, direct care position in a local home for MR/MI clientele. Life-changing. Ten years prior to ever teaching. #eduar
🙌 Attention 🙌 New post #FabFiveSquad@emilyfranESL@TeachingChannel - “Writing like this, you’ll never graduate college.” A very sad statement written with red pen all across my essay. I’d like to go back to her today and say, “You were so wrong.” https://t.co/D0wOQm7dXp
#eduAR A2 It’s an in-process kind of thing, but learning to manage large scale broadcast video training products.. 18 month’s ago exasperated, pulling my hair out. Settling down, seeking help from peers saw me through.
A2: As a first generation high school graduate I feel I overcome adversity everyday. A child of poverty. Illiterate father. Everyday I go to school thinking , "I need to help all the kids I can to understand education is key!" #EduAR
A2: I went a non-traditional route to my teaching license and was told several times the jobs just weren’t out there for me. I continued to make connections, build my experience, and landed in the district I’d always wanted! #eduAR
A2: I've shared this before, but being hit head-on by a drunk driver (on her way to school to pick up her daughter) was a huge hurdle for me to jump. Learning how to receive the gift of help was life-changing; choosing joy fueled my recovery. #eduAR
A2: cont' I cut back on obligations and started taking care of me, and changing up my classroom. I got back to being a "new" teacher with new teacher passion and excitement. #EduAR
Thank you, Meredith! I had an amazing support system which made it all possible. I'm thankful to pay it forward to people in my life today, which is why I'm a mentor for @tnAchieves and look for ways to pour back into my community. #eduAR
A2. everyday in my first admin job. I was in a tough district with many kids in need of support with little support to give them from the educational level. Gave them ALL the LOVE I had.
#EduAR
A2. Diagnosed with breast cancer last Summer- I was always happy and positive kept a brave face- but no one knew how scared I was, kept l👀king on web which made it worse- but I had surgery- worked while getting RADS which kept me busy and am cancer free;) #eduAR
A2: There were about 5 (what I call) “full moon” situations going on at the same time. I felt myself being pulled under & being consumed by the negativity & strong emotions. I reached out to others, remained calm, did a lot of praying, & got to the other side. 👍🏽#EduAR
A2: I was diagnosed with MS eighteen years ago. After my diagnosis, I returned to college, graduated, and achieved my dream of becoming a teacher! #EduAR
A2: when living & teaching in a Zulu village in South Africa, the only American teacher &English speaker for 300 Zulu children. Cried myself to sleep for months until I realized Ss needed me, I needed them & the experience was a porthole to greatness. #EduAR
A2~ last couple of years as my belief in myself/confidence😊has soared, I'm advocating w/dignity, sassy tone and all and an refusing to engage in negative banter and choose happiness above all else #EduAR
A2: learned via my South African teaching experience that Relationships are Everything and Nothing allows growth respect dignity propulsion and sustainability other than our relationships. #EduAR
Thank you, Paul! Part of my success is continuing to be honest & truthful about where I come from & what I've fought through. I think it's so important to be real about our life experiences so that we can help others see that there is light on the other side of adversity. #eduAR
A2. Diagnosed with breast cancer last Summer- I was always happy and positive kept a brave face- but no one knew how scared I was, kept l👀king on web which made it worse- but I had surgery- worked while getting RADS which kept me busy and am cancer free;) #eduAR
A3 our school's language & culture can help shape mindsets. Adults need to believe our Ss are more than their experiences. We need to make LOUD those that have overcome circumstances WHO LOOK LIKE OUR STUDENTS #eduAR
A3: By sharing our authentic stories of how we have overcome obstacles in our life. Remember - our Ss forget we are "real people" sometimes! Lead by example and share the highs and lows! #EduAR
A3- By providing examples of those who have overcome adversity (including ourselves.) When S's hear that we are human also, it strengths the connection, inspires them to believe and makes learning more meaningful to them. #EduAR
A2: In the middle of it. Became a P before I knew what it entailed. Learning about who I am and how I relate to others big time. Takes lots of reflection and listening. #eduar
A3. By reminding them EVERYDAY...(and not to sound cliche)...YOU can be anything you want to be. I am here for you to support you in whatever you want to be.
#EduAR
A2 Low performing school, kids suffering in extreme poverty, super tough teaching situation, couldn’t see a way to help the kids,&then 1 day, a little girl from the most unimaginable life situation, blurted out a story that stopped me in my tracks and refocused my mission. #EduAR
A1: We must lead them beyond the victim mentality, and help them discover that they can choose their mindset, and how they respond to their circumstances. It takes strong relationships and teaching of the skillset, but it is SO worth it. #EduAR
A3: Help Ss see that their circumstances might feel overwhelming but they are temporary... by being honest about our own struggles, we help them see they are not alone in their adversity. #eduAR
A3: Using #Diversebooks is my way! Students need to see their life and experiences are worth writing and reading about...THEN provide plenty of opportunities for them to TELL their story
#eduAR
A3 Share our stories, the stories of former Ss, build relationships with students and keep on supporting them, making time to talk, share, learn #eduAR
A3: We must lead them beyond the victim mentality, and help them discover that they can choose their mindset, and how they respond to their circumstances. It takes strong relationships and teaching of the skillset, but it is SO worth it. #EduAR
A3: Books. Books with characters that can serve as windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors. Characters that look like "we." Like me. That show us how to open doors we thought to be closed. Books. Books. Books. Wait. I want to be very clear here with this response: BOOKS. #eduar
A3 To shift mindset make sure we don't allow circumstance to define them. Don't have preconceived notions of Ss, let them restart, give them chances, believe, be there for them. Show them they MATTER. Be kind Always. Be a somebody who makes them feel like a somebody. #eduAR
A3: Sharing stories like the ones from this chat, as well as nonfiction stories about struggle and success. If possible, bring people in to mentor our most needing students. #EduAr
A3- By providing examples of those who have overcome adversity (including ourselves.) When S's hear that we are human also, it strengths the connection, inspires them to believe and makes learning more meaningful to them. #EduAR
A2: dealing with the death of my mom when I was 26, I became a caregiver to my Dad who knew nothing about running a household or paying bills. Trying to get my own life sorted after college and being a pseudo replacement for her was tough. #eduAR
A3: We can do this by first developing those all important relationships. If Ss know you have their backs, they will jump through hoops for you, and understand that you only want what's best for them. #EduAR
A3: We must give our Ss a safe place to risk & fail & try again. If they aren't given a chance to try again, we are teaching them that they must get it right the 1st time every time & that isn't realistic. Give grace, give space for risk & failure & growth will follow. #eduAR
Q3 Preach growth mindset. Share stories of people who have defied expectations. Make the classroom a place of equity where students have equal opportunity to achieve no matter the circumstances. Tell students #YOUMatter! #EduAR
A3: by allowing them to prove to themselves that they CAN be successful regardless of where they came from and where they are. Once they know someone truly cares the ceiling is not just the limit but the beginning! #eduAR
Q3: Reinforcing the idea that Ss can have different kinds of intelligence helps them gain confidence, see hope, and feel valued, which gives them an avenue to see success as achievable! #eduAR
A3: I remind my Ss and stakeholders that we are human BEings not human DOings; this helps us remember that we are more than just what we can achieve. We'd rather they find themselves in the service of others than look for themselves in their accomplishments. #eduAR
A3: We must lighten the load in their invisible backpack through strong relationships and providing kids with the skill set they need socially and emotionally. #EduAR
Lots of kids come to school with their invisible backpacks, weighted with struggles.
Stress, worry, fear, anxiety, trauma, lack of physical needs, loneliness, anger, sadness, & hopelessness can make them so heavy; too heavy for learning to happen.
Notice & love them instead.
A3: By giving them examples of historic figures and/or other well known individuals who overcame adversity. S's need to see that even the best of people have had obstacles to overcome. #EduAR
A 3: We shift their thinking by giving them hope thru success. We show them their value by listening to them . We teach them not only how to read , write, and be problem solvers but to be loving, productive members of society! #EduAR
A3: As much as we are aware of the talk that can harm others in the room, we should be mindful of that self-deprecating talk. That manifestation of the feelings inside that come out right before presentations of ideas or projects. We can check these while conferring. #eduar
#eduAR A3 Practice in uncomfortable situations. Sitting with peers talking about unfamiliar subject. Videotape them. Later, review the tape & deconstruct the interaction. Where might connections with interests have happened?
A3b stories are a powerful communication, learning, & motivational tool. bring the community in to our Ss to tell their story of overcoming adversity; posters & curriculum highlight people like our Ss who overcame #eduAR
A3: I share parts of my story as appropriate during my 1-to-1 meetings w/Ss. The looks on their faces are priceless & endearing as they realize that I can relate to what they are dealing with in their families or in their lives! I hope they are inspired to persevere. #EduAR
A3: Behind every student in our schools, is a child who wants to feel loved, valued, and safe. If one of these is missing, we will not be successful as educators in teaching them what they need to be successful.
Loved, valued, safe. #EduAR
A3~ model for our Ss the bumps in the road and authenticity in our thoughts & feelings when dealing with such should be honest, forthright and ongoing~ exposure to our humanness is imperative for teaching&learning for all stakeholders #EduAR
A3: Kids have limited access to anything outside their bubble, and what they see is skewed via social media and YouTube. Reminding them that life exists out there, and they need to prepare for it ... modeling and guiding them is key. #eduAR
A3 We love them, and push them, and remind them every day that they were created on purpose for a purpose and that their lives are significant to this world! They have important things to do and life is not all about them! It’s about how they will make this world better! #EduAR
A3: All shifts and mindset resets for me, Ss and my teachers are found in story. We read. We discuss. We argue. We agree and disagree. We are characters and characters are us. We find relevance and all of it measures and sustains our shifts. #EduAR
@DrJohnHodge made me realize submersion within the culture you work makes a difference. His teacher was in the neighborhood, knew the families and houses. She would visit them and it impacted his life! #eduAR
yes! the deficit mindset can be so paralyzing. I choose to focus on what my Ss have accomplished and work from there. Kudos to you for seeing the value in this, too! #eduAR
A3. Sharing stories- My daughter has Down Syndrome and she is such an amazing girl! Spunky, fierce, love for everyone, funny, smart and can do anything anyone else can do! Her extra chromosome doesn’t define her! She goes to my school to so kids know her;) #eduAR
A3: I just read this quote by Edward B. Lewis in @casas_jimmy book, #Culturize. I will be sharing it with my students! “We define ourselves by the best that is in us, not the worst that has been done to us.” #EduAR
A4: By providing unconditional support. S's sometimes lose faith in themselves if they find a situation to be insurmountable or if they find themselves facing adversity often. We need to provide that dependable shoulder to lean on or that consistent ear that listens. #EduAR
Thanks. YOU all have been such an inspiration to keep me from not giving up. @bethhill2829 and @mandyeellis to name a few inspire me daily. I can do great things! #eduAR
In reply to
@PaulONeill1972, @bethhill2829, @mandyeellis
Stories are powerful! I shared bit of mine with a fourth grader today. She was shocked to hear about some of my childhood. Our students need to hear that others have gone thru adversity and lead successful lives! #EduAR
A4: By sharing stories of people who overcame adversity to realize their dreams. Success is non-linear and we can teach students the power of grit and self-determination. #EduAR
A4: share a proven framework like 7 habits of successful teens and present inspiring stories like @CNNHeroes and #upstanders who have walked the walk! #eduAR
Thanks. YOU all have been such an inspiration to keep me from not giving up. @bethhill2829 and @mandyeellis to name a few inspire me daily. I can do great things! #eduAR

A4: If it weren't for the adversity in my life, I wouldn't have the grit & determination I have today. I came to a point where I knew adversity would either break me or ignite a spark in me that could never be put out. I chose the latter & will keep choosing it every day. #eduAR
A4: I love to share experiences from my life with my Ss. When I do this ... they are SUPER engaged and tuned in to what I am saying. They love examples from my own life. #EduAR
A4 It is powerful for students to know that success is not an easy path, that they need to stay the course. Students need to believe, to try, to persist, to overcome. We need to support, encourage, believe, love. Together we empower, together we make things possible. #eduAR
#eduAR Q3 and Q4: For me, it has always about books. Reading them, writing them, sharing them with Ts and SS. Especially relevant on Holocaust Memorial Day...
A4: Storytelling is so powerful. Sharing our own struggles and battles with adversity...when we failed, and when we beat odds...that does wonders for the souls of others. #EduAR
A3:I make sure 2 show&tell Ss daily, that they are each SOMEBODY!Where my Ss live & what they have, does not define them & describe who they are. I help them BELIEVE,that when they strive, &persevere, they will WIN, because...they are SOMEBODY!@pqschools @jasongriffinhgs#EduAR
A4: I love the word "leverage" here. It all comes down to perspective! Are you hammering something down or using a pull bar to yank it up? Sure it takes work, but WOW - the rewards are phenomenal! #EduAR
A4: We must resist a temptation to write off stories of overcoming adversity as "cliche." They're not cliche if a young person has never read the story, heard the poem, or seen that short film demonstrating perseverance. When did we first hear them? When did we need them? #eduAR
Today I shared with a HS student how proud his mother would be of him after listening to him in an everyday conversation. She was a T friend of mine who passed. I was luck to be his teacher. Special stuff. #eduAR
A4: Reinforcing the concept of failing forward by modeling our own foibles and championing mistakes as learning opps. We must tell our stories and open up those convos to help Ss let go of that perfect ideal and instead embrace process and growth. #eduAR
A4: Use an adverse situation to teach about problems & solutions. Teach them how to first identify the problem before trying to decide solutions. #eduar
Yes! People who have experienced success are often the ones who work the hardest. We need to recognize effort over talent, process over product! #EduAR
A4 It is powerful for students to know that success is not an easy path, that they need to stay the course. Students need to believe, to try, to persist, to overcome. We need to support, encourage, believe, love. Together we empower, together we make things possible. #eduAR
A4: We all have "Oh Sh!t" moments in life. That is the human condition. Helping our Ss see past the struggle to the other side is so important.. Many don't have a guiding light, and that's where we as Ts come in! #eduAR
A4 History is full of stories and proof that adversity is going to come our way. It’s how we choose to deal with the adversity that determines our future. Use the content we teach to tell those stories and model that truth realistically. #EduAR
#eduAR A4 I read somewhere people excel at critiquing others.. maybe a multi person collaboration. Where naysayers are ignored, as in.. https://t.co/aTBL5ROPVS
Today I shared with a HS student how proud his mother would be of him after listening to him in an everyday conversation. She was a T friend of mine who passed. I was luck to be his teacher. Special stuff. #eduAR
Started taking classes 5 weeks after my firstborn came, took night classes along with full time teaching, and earned my masters in mathematics 3 years later. Heavy mom-guilt. Love my therapist!! #eduAR
Q4; We guide students to learning from adversity. Adversity is a universal situation--everyone is going to face some type of it. Attitude is key. BUT that learning only takes place in a culture of trust and where relationships are strong! #EduAR
Q4; We guide students to learning from adversity. Adversity is a universal situation--everyone is going to face some type of it. Attitude is key. BUT that learning only takes place in a culture of trust and where relationships are strong! #EduAR
A4~ we "call out" the adversity- give it a name, set action steps to overcome such, sometimes if they need to wallow in it for a bit, provide support and then help them move on via praise, support& encouragement ~ lead by example #EduAR
Stories are powerful! I shared bit of mine with a fourth grader today. She was shocked to hear about some of my childhood. Our students need to hear that others have gone thru adversity and lead successful lives! #EduAR
A4: Ss need to learn that failure is necessary for success. They see failure as an end result instead of a stepping stone towards success. Failure teaches grit and perseverance. #EduAR
Q5: Emotional maturity is a powerful tool that coincides with success. Share opportunities that we can provide for students to practice their development of emotional maturity. #EduAR
A4: Ss who are in social and emotional pain can be taught to leverage the space they are in to propel them into healthy positive mindset and disposition. #EduAR
A4: We can help Ss realize that adversity is part of life & that it actually makes us stronger. We can help them see how much learning & growth takes place during the most challenging times. We can share our stories (failure, divorce, being cut from teams, loss, etc.). #EduAR
I will be coming to Fay in a couple of weeks for Mom's Day at Kappa Sigma, U of A...I may just have to come see your school and meet you face to face! #EduAR
A4: If it weren't for the adversity in my life, I wouldn't have the grit & determination I have today. I came to a point where I knew adversity would either break me or ignite a spark in me that could never be put out. I chose the latter & will keep choosing it every day. #eduAR

A5: Authentic experiences with leadership and focusing on a cause they care about will be a great teacher. Adults need to whisper wise counsel to keep them on track. #EduAR
#EduAr A4 Many of our students have such difficult lives and think teachers don’t understand. Sharing stories of adversity gives them insight into you, build relationships & cand inspire them to succeed!
A5- I love using response to text as an opportunity to practice emotional maturity. Have S's find something they are passionate about...SUPER passionate...sit back and listen to the conversations. Talk about student empowerment as they work through their options. #eduAR
A4: We must resist a temptation to write off stories of overcoming adversity as "cliche." They're not cliche if a young person has never read the story, heard the poem, or seen that short film demonstrating perseverance. When did we first hear them? When did we need them? #eduAR
#eduAR A4b Navy basic training firefighting training circa 1977.. the rush coming out of the space with the fire out. Maybe a #breakoutEDU where realistic situation is overcome?
A4: I also believe that leveraging adversity cannot happen when we compare a student's situation to another that we might think is "worse." Adversity is most unique when it resides inside of the person experiencing it. Universal when it moves outward in work and healing. #eduar
A5 We must understand that kids are all at different levels and will always be. We need to let them not only take a lead, we need to allow them to feel, to express, to share. Let students try, let them be who they are, let them discover themselves. Be there to support. #eduAR
Q5: Emotional maturity is a powerful tool that coincides with success. Share opportunities that we can provide for students to practice their development of emotional maturity. #EduAR
A5: We need to intentionally teach emotional literacy so Ss can have convos about how they're feeling and what they want/need to find a resolution. I thrive on mediating Ss to help them get their needs met. "I feel ___ when you ___ and I need ___." #eduAR
A5: that comes with life experiences and varied perspectives. They need to know how to truly listen and understand each other without judgment and know that everyone has a story. #EduAR
A5: Provide Ss opportunities to participate in leadership roles without the five page application. Shine a light on who they are now and who they can become as leaders. Acknowledge moments where they rise above the fray! #EduAR
Q5: Emotional maturity is a powerful tool that coincides with success. Share opportunities that we can provide for students to practice their development of emotional maturity. #EduAR
A5: I am teaching my "littles" peaceful conflict resolution, #Mindfulness and @zonesofregulation It has been amazing to see this all come together for them! Hopefully, they will carry these toold with them, moving forward. #eduAR
A5: Emotional IQ is an intrinsic quality for successful human beings. I learned from @GottmanInst about how to build up EIQ in kids through emotion coaching. Here are steps I take with my Ss and my own children to help them develop emotional maturity. #eduAR
Let Ss tell their story at the beginning of the year. Have them post 2 dreams of where they’d love to be in the future. Throughout the year, go back to their dreams to make goals. We can use dreams and goal setting as leverage. #eduAR
A5 We have different lessons in our mentoring HR to role play and interact w/Ss, also by having them connect with the community and develop #SEL skills, give Ss opps to interact with one another #eduAR
A4: We can leverage experiences of overcoming adversity, with courage, to empower students to take ownership for who they are becoming by helping them to understand... #EduAR
A5: Provide real opportunities for failure. Failure is real learning and can't be substituted. Let students redo work and normalize having to redo it. Real life involves overcoming challenges. #eduAR
Q5: Emotional maturity is a powerful tool that coincides with success. Share opportunities that we can provide for students to practice their development of emotional maturity. #EduAR
A5 trust them to tackle problems they see within their setting: school, community, city, global. Let them connect to each other & the outside world. Get rid of the "frickin packet" via @cultofpedagogy#eduAR
A5: I think it's important to teach students how to avoid immediately reacting to certain adverse situations. Some situations call for more careful thought & reflection to respond appropriately. #EduAR
A5: Provide an emotionally safe environment where kids grow comfortable sharing their vulnerability and taking risks. So important for kids when we are trying to bridge their adversities to their opportunities. #EduAR
A5: Intentional teaching for SEL must become as much as a priority as reading, writing and math. It is crucial . We owe it to the kids to figure this out! It keeps me up at night! #EduAR
A5 We allow and encourage them to express their feelings, and we listen intently to their stories. When we validate and honor their emotions, we are helping them grow #EduAR
YES. The emotional stability of children must be the priority. Learning cannot happen until kids feel safe. If that takes time, it will be worth it. #EduAR
A5: Intentional teaching for SEL must become as much as a priority as reading, writing and math. It is crucial . We owe it to the kids to figure this out! It keeps me up at night! #EduAR

A5~ practice via plentiful opportunities expressing their feelings in supportive settings that empowers Ss to walk thru the adversity w/self-respect & dignity and leads them to a better place that is socially &emotionally best for their continued growth #EduAR
Yes! This! SEL is so very important for the success of our students, especially those who lack support structures when they leave our classrooms! #EduAR
A6 Social media is a great way to not only share learning but to tell one's story. We need to learn, teach and empower students to use social media to empower their voice, to make a difference and to succeed beyond school. Teach voice, responsibility. Empower leaders. #eduAR
A5. Literature and making those connections is huge! Modeling, role playing knowing these emotions and how to handle all of the emotions they are feeling. #EduAr

A6: Teaching digital citizenship in real-time, I use @Schoology discussion boards to tackle tough topics. Today, we discussed modern reform movements like #marchforourlives and #metoo with respect & care. It was powerful to see Ss discussing their opinions respectfully. #eduAR
A6: By sharing my own example of how building a PLN has empowered me as a professional. Emphasizing how a personal brand can provide opportunities that didn't exist previously. Having a vision and putting in consistent effort can lead to success. #EduAR
A6: you have to make social media relevant to the learning...having students design their own educational apps is just one way. If they are interested and it’s relevant—it’s GOLDEN! #eduAR
heard a TED podcast about this; had many of the people in prison had stopped & thought about how to appropriately respond to a situation they would have made a better decision that could've altered their life #eduAR
A6: CD is amazing! Our prek @CentralCabotpK4 uses these strategies, and we are looking to expand. As a lead learner I learn so much from the books and their website. #EduAR
A6 We can connect with so many more learning opportunities for Ss and for ourselves, it is a way to help Ss to become responsible dig citizens, these skills transfer to the physical space as well, share Ss successes, use it to amplify learning thru connecting #eduAR
A6: For me social media indirectly effects my Ss. Here is how. I am positively impacted by who I hang around on Twitter and my PLN ... in return I am a better teacher and administrator for my students:) #eduAR
Q6: I'm most web transparent. My students know how and where to find me within any social media platform (we do not follow back or friend). They'll marvel at Twitter following. I tell them it is about community and content and consistency. Purposeful talk happens here too. #eduar
A6: Social media has SO much negative in HS..brutal. This is a rough one. sometimes our best classes are when we check phones in and stare into each other’s eyes! #EduAR
A6: CD is amazing! Our prek @CentralCabotpK4 uses these strategies, and we are looking to expand. As a lead learner I learn so much from the books and their website. #EduAR
A6: We've been sharing our kindness projects/stories on social media which caught the eye of our district, then local news. Students got to see first-hand all the ways social media can be used for GOOD! https://t.co/bV62K4LEya#EduAR#Unselfie#SocialLEADia
A6: By following the gentle nudgings of a friend and joining Twitter-World! My PLN fulfills me every single day! You people are so encouraging!! #eduAR
A5: Through conversations where we (adults/peers) listen & validate their feelings in a safe environment that honors them, their emotions, & feelings. As adults, we serve as role models for emotional maturity & need to remember this. They are always watching/listening. #EduAR
This is true for all of us. It's what keeps our staff strong as well. Feeling that we are in a place that we can communicate openly and continue to grow is a recipe for success at all ages. #EduAR
A6: I use social media (this account) as supplementary exercise/factoids/fun pics&vids for those who want a little more after class. I don’t use it as a requirement. Then it’s no longer enjoyable for my Ss. #EduAR
Absolutely. They are not prepared to learn, and it is not their fault. They need our patience, empathy, and acceptance of who they are. They need us to believe in them, and see the soul behind the shell. #EduAR
A6: It's important to help Ss realize that their online presence is their brand, to coach them to choose wisely what the put out there and what they consume. #digcit#eduAR
A6: Our Ss are so used to communication that is not face to face. Teaching them that social media interactions impact their lives just like real-life interactions is so important. #eduAR
A6 By learning and growing stronger as an educator through my connections and discussions with other like minded passionate educators on Twitter who challenge and inspire me to reach higher and burn brighter! #EduAR
A6: Sharing my Twitter experience opened my Ss eyes wide. I Snapchatted Weekend math riddles for Ss showing different things in my community (I live out of district). Ss really wanted to figure them out and asked about the on Monday. #eduAR
A2:: My life has had a few twists and turns. Married young, had 3 children, ended up homeless/live in motel for a year. Then I was a single mom, work/school full time. Took over 5 yrs, but got my BA in Special education and turned our lives around. #EduAr
A6: we had some fights and I read the riot act to my 5th period when I saw them sharing and laughing at videos. Turned into an awesome discussion about humanity. #EduAR
A6: Be incessantly curious about kids...everything about them. Finding the why behind their behaviors, thoughts, and emotions will help us help them. Don’t be a Judgy Jim! #EduAR
A7: By championing grit, not just get-it-right-the-first-time, we are teaching our Ss that resilience is even more powerful than being right. Rewarding effort and growth instead of all As teaches our Ss that their effort and persistence matters. #eduAR
A7: By not allowing S's to give up on themselves. Failure is a moment in time not a destination. It's how we use that failure to learn that is important. Moreover, it's how we rebound from failing to reach our goals that determines how we handle adversity. #EduAR
A6~ twitter has fostered home/school connections that lend itself to continuous positive communication for all stakeholders ~ families ❤️seeing their pride&joy engaged in the teaching&learning pictures that are posted #EduAr
A6: Social media offers students an opportunity to connect with, learn with peers and from experts on a global scale...learning is no longer defined by what happens only within the school building. #EduAR
A6 By learning and growing stronger as an educator through my connections and discussions with other like minded passionate educators on Twitter who challenge and inspire me to reach higher and burn brighter! #EduAR
A7 Empowerment, kindness, compassion, empathy, heart need to be part of the culture, mission and vision of the school. We need to live the values, not just talk about them. We need to put kids first and help them set goals and support achieving them. Do what it takes. #eduAR
A7: Not turning something in is not an option. Even if it's four weeks late, Ss in my class get credit for the work they put in. There is no room for a "0" in my gradebook. #eduAR
A6. We use social media to connect outside our 4 walls in so many ways: twitter, @padlet math collaboration, @flipgrid - pals in Australia doing mystery loc. booktalk w/friends in NY - @Skype hoping 2 Skype 2 all 50 states! wouldn’t b possible w/out power of twitter!!! #EduAR
A5) We can focus on Emotional Maturity through a hands-on, experiential learning program that helps students develop interpersonal (I.E Soft skills) abilities that are essential to future success! This all happens under our school-wide them..... #eduAR#pln365@careacter
heard a TED podcast about this; had many of the people in prison had stopped & thought about how to appropriately respond to a situation they would have made a better decision that could've altered their life #eduAR
A7 By creating opps for Ss to explore, be brave in trying new things, modeling a growth mindset for them and help Ss to see that failure isn't final, we all make mistakes, we may not know the answer/be successful...yet, but we can #eduAR
A7: I think “getting work done” needs to be every school’s mission statement. Let Ss redeem themselves after some bad choices. Late work? Of course! Why would anyone not take a kid’s work? If I’m late on a bill, can I still pay it?#EduAR
A7: Make your values visible. When students know what we espouse, they'll rise to the expectations and work with intention to live those values, which will equip and empower regardless of (or because of?) the adversity they've traveled through. #eduAR
A6: We share our positive stories of S success via social media. We are trying to model how to appropriately use social media & how to leave a positive digital footprint. It’s a great way to show students how to make + connections & + contributions to the world. #EduAR
