A1: I have two right now, I'm spending too much time thinking on fixing a lesson plan when it's still summer and the other is that I'm not doing enough running when my pixel chart is full of more blue days than yellow. #TLAP#BalanceLAP
A1: When I start counting the hours of the day to figure out how late I have to stay up after kids are in bed to complete work, that's when I know I need to readjust my balance. An empty cup can't pour into anyone! #tlap#BalanceLAP

Good evening, #TLAP family! I am Anna from San Diego here to learn about how to keep my goal of maintaining balance during this school year. #BalanceLAP
We enjoy SR (&/or CR) 3-5 x per wk in 15 min segments...I’m curious about the way Ts structure their SR time...I like what I found on p. 297 of FStT “Text Encounters” suggests an “unexpected or chance meeting”...which is often what occurs when kids revisit text #BookCampPD
A1: I know I'm out of balance when I start letting relationships fall by the wayside. When I haven't talked to others about anything but school/work. #tlap#BalanceLAP
Q1: In order to transform into more balanced educators, we need to recognize when we are out of balance. What are your “tells” that indicate you are out of balance? #TLAP
Q1: In order to transform into more balanced educators, we need to recognize when we are out of balance. What are your “tells” that indicate you are out of balance? #TLAP
A1 I have 2 tells: focus and fatigue All Ts suffer from fatigue at some point each year, but you all know the deep fatigue that screams balance That fatigue eventually takes my focus away from team & Ss #tlap
A1 I know I'm out of balance when my wife and daughter give me the side eyes. Like I tell our staff, family first and if I'm out of balance with them, I'm out of balance with everything. #tlap#BalanceLAP
Q1: In order to transform into more balanced educators, we need to recognize when we are out of balance. What are your “tells” that indicate you are out of balance? #TLAP

A1: @debbiemcfalone & @rewiredprinK2 talk about having a personal "Board of Directors" to check in with. Mine is family & friends and they let me know when I'm out of balance. #tlap#BalanceLAP
Q1: In order to transform into more balanced educators, we need to recognize when we are out of balance. What are your “tells” that indicate you are out of balance? #TLAP
A1: My tells that indicate that I am out of balance include feeling drained and burnt out. I love teaching, and as a 1st yr teacher, I know I will feel like I am walking on a tightrope at times while just trying to maintain my balance. #tlap
A1: I can tell I’m out of balance when I am constantly thinking about solutions to work problems and not stopping myself from continuing to think and think and think about work #tlap
A1 I know I am out of balance if I’m not having fun! I have to check in with myself all the time to remind myself the most important thing is #kidsdeserveit and they deserve us at our best! #tlap
A1: My "tells" for being out of balance include: avoiding sleep to work late, TMJ pain/tension, drinking too much caffeine, some stomach issues and my family telling me that I need to go out for a run! #BalanceLAP#tlap
A1: I get extremely short with everyone because I'm in fight or flight mode...I'll suddently realize I'm metaphorically gasping for air and that I need to take a step back because that isn't helping ANYBODY #tlap

A1: Feel overwhelmed, to-do list becomes a check list rather than project management, I disappear from Twitter chats, things start piling up. #tlap#BalanceLAP
Q1: In order to transform into more balanced educators, we need to recognize when we are out of balance. What are your “tells” that indicate you are out of balance? #TLAP
A1: When I feel totally overwhelmed by the to do list! What helps me with this is to spend time with my students- remembering why I do what I do each day! This job can be stressful but it’s important to step back, reflect, and breathe! My why keeps me balanced! #tlap
Hello, my name is Jessica and I'm a workaholic! By nature I focus on work all the time, so I have to intentionally make time for family fun and my passions!
#tlap#BalanceLAP
A1: In order to transform into more balanced educators, we need to recognize when we are out of balance.
My “tells” that indicate I am out of balance is when I start to feel stressed, panicked & nervous...and feel like I may fall flat on my face.
#BalanceLAP#TLAP
A1: A great tell is when my Ss (high school and blunt) tell me that I'm being "sassy" when they don't deserve it or "Who put that look on your face? Want us to take care of them for you?" #tlap
A1
✨☮️🕊️❤️
BALANCE IS KEY
When things start to get dropped, it's time to let go of the non-essentials. Prioritize, but YOU have to be included in your priorities too!
#BalnceLAP#TLAP
A1 Friends would say I’m rarely in balance, Driven, racing around, hyper they’d say. Buy if I’m not taking them on that ride then it’s all ok. LOL #tlap Sleepless nights are really telling.
A1: I can tell that I’m out of balance when I feel very run down & am more sensitive than normal. I tend to always fall under the weather the first few weeks of school until I get back into a routine... so I’m going to be proactive this year! #BalanceLAP#tlap
It is always tough when someone can tell the stress or exhaustion on your face. It's not the vibe I want to give out but it happens when I'm out of balance. #tlap
My mentors suggested a Board of Directors. I have one official member, but she is related to me. I would love to start building a solid professional board to keep me balanced. #TLAP#BalanceLAP

A1: When I start getting annoyed with little things like too many pencils on the ground. I know I need to take a breather and get balanced again. #tlap
A1: Usually the students and the teachers will say something. That's when I know it's time to fix myself. When I'm not exuding enthusiasm and fun, they see something and they say something #tlap

A1: I always know when I’m out of balance when my passions feel like work... when I lose interests in what normally refuels me, I know it’s time to recalibrate! #tlap#BalanceLAP
A1 When my girl @tishrich says "Where are your exclaimation marks?!" (in my tweets and texts)😂😜 But for REAL...
That's usually a good sign I'm out of balanace. ;)
#tlap#BalanceLap
A1 My Out-Of-Balance recheck is when I ask my kids to repeat themselves multiple times when they are talking to me...that's when I know my mind has been somewhere else for a while #tlap
Oh hey guys! It’s been a minute since I’ve done a twitter chat, but with @SarahSajohnson hosting I may just have to bust back into it! #tlap Hey, Josh! 👋🏼

Passion: Scrapboking 2018 pics!
A2: Based on the time of year and the importance of getting the school prepped for August, I am totally immersed in my professional life. #tlap#balancelap
A2: Hmm. Since I brought my hubs to the #GRITC2018 (where keynote @burgessdave totally impressed him) , presented, then spent the rest of the day at the beach, I'm 50/50 with two of them. Wait. We saw Dave live, so 70/30 prof getting the nod. #tlap

passion - teaching tennis
personal - family time and zoo trips, professional - in my spare time, working on creating proficiency scales for SBG. #tlap
A2: My professional crosses with my passions. I love what I do so I'm usually totally immersed in my work and so the balance is in trying not to overwhelm others #tlap
A2 It depends on the time of day. During summer daytime is personal/we time, time with family. Night time, after family goes to bed, is professional time. Finding that balance until school begins. #tlap
This is the time in the school year where I clear my entire todo list: empty the budgets, build stuff I've been putting off, new furniture, redesign everything. And teach summer session. #tlap
A2: I’m currently immersed in personal and passion. I’m taking care of myself to prepare for the upcoming year and I’m very passionate about what I do. I’m taking steps to show that passion. #tlap

A2: I am all up in personal and professional. The little nugget below made me a first time dad in January and this is my second summer starting a new admin job. I had to move closer to home! #dadsasprincipals#tlap#familyfirst
How different are our “personal” and “passions”? We thinking personal includes family and passions are more individual? #HaventReadtheBook#yet#tlap#BalanceLAP
Q2: We do not believe balance is 50/50. Instead, we need to find our own formula to prioritize our personal, professional, positional, and passions in life. Which of these four are you most immersed in now? #tlap

Q2: We do not believe balance is 50/50. Instead, we need to find our own formula to prioritize our personal, professional, positional, and passions in life. Which of these four are you most immersed in now? #tlap
Personal & passion is in the forefront right now as I spend time with family & work on my writing. About to switch modes as we move into a new school year! #tlap
A2~ really immersed in slowing down& hosting weekly “passion project “ read aloud sessions with my bff @_mlb25 ❤️ #tlap ... serving others while serving myself a whole bunch of love & little people
I did that for myself this summer and want to continue taking time for myself in a responsible way during this school year. It will be tricky, but my #TLAP#BalanceLAP#PLN will be helpful to keep me in check.
A2: My formula for balance during the summer is to prioritize my "personal" and "passions" in life. My family made sure I spend more time figuring out who "ME" is and also don't forget time with them. So I'm listening to them this summer. But cannot forget Twitter ---> #tlap
I'm with you....my top 2 passions are reading/writing---those mesh right in with professional. My time spent in those gets me pumped up for my position!
#BalanceLAP#tlap
A2: This summer I've been immersed in moving into our new house, google certification level 2 (I passed) and my book!!! Super excited to leave the smoke of fire season in Southern Oregon and spend a week with my family in Cali! #tlap#xplap

A2 personal- enjoying summer & in the process of trying to buy a house 😬 & professsional- completed a lot of online PD today & attending the #cfisdslc this week! #tlap
I was thinking the same - but passions are sometimes professional and passions sometimes take away from our personal time. Even if we love our passions, they aren't always about us. #tlap
That's a full time job! At certain points it is a passion, a positional move, a personal goal. In the end though you will be glad you pushed through! #tlap
A3 My daily run, especially if it's after school, helps me refocus on family time before I do a little school work. But no school after 9:00. No good emails happen after 9:00. #tlap#balanc
Q3: “Self care is not selfish; being healthy allows us to be more selfless.” Name one way you prioritize taking care of yourself so that you can pour more into others. #TLAP
A2: the summer has truly been cycles between professional, personal, and passions. I try to stop and evaluate what I feel is being neglected or is itching for attention. Asking myself what I need is helpful instead of working on autopilot. #tlap
A2: I am fully engaged professional at work (keeping my family in mind) and a fully engaged parent at home (keeping my professional family in mind). I never truly disengage completely but that works for me. #tlap
A2 my mantra is always meaning trumps balance... meaning to me is more important than balance. Finding meaning and running with it makes my heart soar...but only until I’m so out of balance that I crash. There’s still a place for balance, there always has to be. #tlap#BalanceLAP
A2: Today was my first day back and I'm getting the starting pieces in line for the new school year so I'm in a professional mode with a side of passion. #tlap#BalnceLAP
A2 Passion/profession are one in the same at this point in life, I’m a lucky one! School is about to start and I want this to be the best year for the students and staff where we see a huge change in ALL! #tlap
A3: I enjoy walking while listening to music, so I make sure to carve in a 30 minute workout daily. I also know that I tend to say yes to everything which opens the door to amazing opportunities, but I need to have a balance in order to fill my cup and others. #tlap
A3: I make sure that my morning routines are in place. Coffee, gym time, newspaper and crossword (if I finish it then a good day is about to happen), more coffee, and then jump into the day #tlap
A2
MIX YOUR POTION!
Passion blended w/ personal, positional, & profession = the most delicious combo! There isn't a right or wrong way to mix it, do what tastes good to you!
"Once you get a taste of it, you'll always want to come back for more." -@burgessdave#TLAP#BalnaceLAP
A2) Right now I can say that I am immersed in my personal life as of now. I feel as though each contributes to my personal life. In order for me to be prepared for the upcoming school year I must be in tune with myself. #BalanceLAP#tlap
Awww, Susan! Your kind words just made my night! So blessed to have you in my PLN! I’m so excited to see you blossom your first year teaching! #tlap#BalanceLAP
Q3: “Self care is not selfish; being healthy allows us to be more selfless.” Name one way you prioritize taking care of yourself so that you can pour more into others. #TLAP
A2: I’m in limbo in ALL right now. I know there was a point when all four worked together- and it was amazing. Currently pulling on all of the strings of these balloons trying to figure out what the bouquet looks like. #tlap
Q3: “Self care is not selfish; being healthy allows us to be more selfless.” Name one way you prioritize taking care of yourself so that you can pour more into others. #TLAP
A3: My self-care is to meditate and make sure I remember to be grateful. I created a gratitude jar and add a note every day. This attitude of gratitude has really helped me. Now I act on some of the notes and reach out to special people in my life. #TLAP@BalanceLap
After spending 3 months working on negotiating (which didn’t go well for T’s, btw 😔), I’m currently immersed in having fun at the @NDStateFair! I’ll start focusing on school next week. 😉 #tlap
A2: We need to find our own formula of BALANCE & sometimes prioritize our
⚖️personal
⚖️professional
⚖️positional
⚖️passions
in this thing we call “life”.
🖥As of now, I am completely immersed in my PROFESSIONAL life preparing to present @ #Cfisddlc#BalanceLAP#TLAP
A2b: According to @burgessdave today at #GRITC2018 , we need to bring our personal passions into our classrooms, crossing them w/professional realm. Happens to work really well for me! #tlap
A3: I'm back into a routine of running every morning and it really helps me to feel better emotionally and physically and keeps stress under control. #tlap#balancelap
A3 Sleep is so important Now that I'm past 50, barely, I really feel it when my sleep habits are not what they should be That is one of my goals for this year, sleep with more intent and regularity #tlap
A3: I have been shamed for this, but I sit down and read a great comic book and then do a video review for it. Recharges me, my own self PD and gives me inspiration. #tlap#BalanceLAP
A3: I go away almost every weekend (fortunate to have w/ getaway homes) & even though I often take work with me, getting a few hrs away from home always makes me feel better. I also stopped getting mani/pedis every month & put the $ towards massages instead...so worth it! #TLAP
Q3: “Self care is not selfish; being healthy allows us to be more selfless.” Name one way you prioritize taking care of yourself so that you can pour more into others. #TLAP
A3: I need to spend more time watching Netflix without Twitter on. I know it is silly, but it helps me just kind of put a pause on everything so my brain doesn't feel overloaded. #tlap

A7: #tlap#BalanceLAP if I am to be in every classroom several times per week, that, and being present at re Ed’s/lunch take most time. If I’m not present, parents, Ss and staff suffer. Need to focus more on #personalizedPD for staff!
Q7: A large part of our identity is tied to the positions we hold. Which aspects of your current position takes most of your time, and which areas do you plan to focus for growth? #TLAP
A6) I set short term goals for my long term goals. My focus this year is to learn as much as I can in my first year as assistant principal. This summer I have allotted time where I am able to be hands on before the school year begins. #BalanceLAP#tlap
A7 I spend most of time creating and evaluating my lessons, I always overplan! Every year as I keep revising prep time keeps going down. Also sharing lessons with colleagues and getting their input helps a bunch! #balanceLAP#tlap
#tlap My goal this year to either create or perhaps find a teaching community that is as focused on growth and development as we hope our students to be. The arc of my career has been towards T development. It's time to complete that arc.
A7: Grading and instructional design both seem to take up a lot of time (though I enjoy the second far more than the first). Doing some action research on flipped learning for grad school. Looking forward to focusing on that with my 6th graders this year. :) #tlap
A7: Most of my time is spent building & maintaining relationships with my staff, students & parents. I plan on making that my priority for as long as I’m a principal! #tlap#BalanceLAP
A7 Being in classrooms with students and staff is where I spend most of my time. I plan to focus on asking students more questions about what they are learning and providing more intentional feedback to staff. #tlap#BalanceLAP
Q7: A large part of our identity is tied to the positions we hold. Which aspects of your current position takes most of your time, and which areas do you plan to focus for growth? #TLAP
A6) all things @burgessdave I found Dave a year ago on a podcast. Been hooked since. I will be leading our first day back with copies of trap & Innovatots Mindset @gcouros for all ts. Hoping for full buy in!11 send good vibes. #InnovatorsMindset#tlap
A7: Observations, meetings, behavior. I want to make sure that I prioritize my time to spend my most time with teachers and learning from them. The other stuff will be attended to but that’s where I want to build a strong culture so I can boost Ts and Ss achievement. #tlap
A7~ building positive relationships with my Ss is priority 1 & areas of growth this year will be to focus on letting go of any negativity that will inevitably surface&helping support a culture of positivity by modeling kindness, failing with dignity & making a difference
#tlap

A7 Sometimes it feels as though there is always something new and extra that is expected and added in which can be stressful for many, but remembering that it’s for the kids is what gets us through. They deserve it, they are worth it. #tlap
A6: My focus for professional learning is building supportive relationships and #edtech. Most of my professional learning occurs every Monday at my PLC meetings and here at #TLAP. I also make time to read the plethora of incredible @dbc_inc books that have come out! #BalanceLAP
A7: If I let it, the little meaningless things like paperwork can take up my time. So important to put the big rocks on my calendar first and follow it! #tlap
A7: Ss feedback is the part that doesn't take the most time, but the part I least. Planning takes more time, but LOVE IT. I am in the process of reworking how I give feedback to promote more of a growth mindset in students to help make it better for me as well. #tlap

CLASSROOM #GAMIFICATION
🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲🎲
My action research for my masters thesis is based around #XPLAP classroom gamification. I'm prepping to push PLAY on a year-long game with my students!

A7: A large part of our identity is tied to the positions we hold. An aspect of my current position that takes most of my time is being a leader.
An area I plan to focus for growth is being cool at coding! 😎 #BalanceLAP#TLAP
A7: My position is still new (only 1 1/2 months) so EVERYTHING takes time and needs to be done now. Staying focused on smaller tasks until completion has helped. #tlap
CtA: Recalibrate. It has been a blessed and busy season-I am working on slowing back down so I can continue to work on enjoying the journey of life. #TLAP
Call to Action: Personal all the way, I focused on professional and positional all last year and passions the year before that. Time to be more for my personal life and as they say: "Stop falling into the comparison trap". I do it too often. #TLAP#balancelap
My Call to Action: Even when the calendar and work piles up, I will prioritize self care in the morning and family at night. I know I'm better at school when I fill my cup first so I can pour into others. #BalanceLAP#tlap

A7: Probably planning and creating takes the most time. I need to stay focused on a particular task and see it through before moving on. Using google keep helps so much! #tlap#balancelap
A7: This is where I lose balance because I use time during the day to do preferred activities like getting in classrooms, talking to teachers and hanging out with kids and then the PAPERWORK is still there. My weekends and evenings get eaten up with that #tlap
A7: In kindergartenmost of my time is spent building relationships and social/emotional learning. Relationships come before learning and learning happens because of relationships. #tlap
A7) as an administrator of a school with over 800 kids getting into classrooms and offering support can be challenging. It’s important to get adequate time so I can design and offer differentiated PD and not lose the teaching perspective #tlap
A7 with having been a part of a group who started a new school last year, a lot of time was spent making countless decisions on importent details. Next year, more focus on creating experiences for my Ss and incorporating their passions #tlap#BalanceLAP

A7: I am a writer and storyteller. I feel that when I focus on my blog and podcast, I feel closer to what makes my heart sing. I mentioned I love to challenge myself so I am building new materials, but I am taking a writing class because I want to be better at storytelling. #TLAP
Here, let me tell you about balance. 15 minutes ago I was focused and taking part in this chat, but then this cutie and her mom face timed me from the beach. Focus on what is important...also fear not, I leave for the beach tomorrow after work....now that is balance 😉 #tlap
A7: Data input & analysis takes a majority of time. This coming school year it will be 100% different as my school within a school model opens and we co-collect and analyze data with teachers and students. This has led me to plan for how I want to interact with all Ts & Ss #tlap
A7: The part about my position that takes time is gathering and making resources accessible. This morning, I learned that I share a prep period with our BLS, so she is going to show me some tools that will help me provide better resources and save time. #TLAP#BalanceLAP
Call to Action: Share one space you will focus upon intentionally to grow in your personal, professional, positional, or passions in life. Come back to #BalanceLAP throughout the year to share growth and gain new tips and strategies! #TLAP
A7: Most of my time is thinking about ways to engage a diverse learning population for 2 subjects & 2 gr's). Afternoons/evenings can become a mental revolving door as I switch grades every other day. My focus next yr will be on the administrative classroom tasks (yuch) #tlap
Indeed! I often forget just how many little steps are involved in the process multiplied by so many iPads... need to schedule more time to get it done! Having updated, accessible devices for Ss use is so important, even if behind-the-scenes work! #tlap
CTA: Commit to regularly reflecting on all quadrants and recalculating. Working specifically on setting up rocks, pebbles, sand to stay balanced in positional responsibilities. #BalanceLAP#tlap

CtA I am going to continue to find a way to balance. Summer has allowed me to find more time for personal focus, especially working out, so finding/keeping the balance during the school year will be important. #tlap
A7: Want to spend less time on my phone, and be more present with the people around me. (Funny this was something I always talked to my Resident Assistants about when I was their Senior RA and noticed they would be on their phones during staff dinners hahaha) #tlap
A7: As an AP, I feel that all aspects of my job pull at me and take up my time. This year though, I am making it my goal be present in more classrooms on a daily basis, coaching and providing feedback. Also working on communication with all stakeholders. #tlap
Not sure about you, but often, my best lessons are the ones that weren’t planed and just stemmed from something a student said or did... or something my own kids did that gave me an idea! Sometimes impromptu is the way to go! #tlap#BalanceLAP

" Your ability to give yourself up to the moment and fully "be" with your students is an awesome and unmistakably powerful technique." -@burgessdave#TLAP#BalnceLAP
A6: Learning and keeping up with new things are definitely a focus. I’ll have new subjects this coming year, and here on twitter I have found lots of resources for #stem as well as more educator minds to tap into. #tlap
A7: I am over the moon excited to learn from our new Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services @YeagerBrent as we focus on Standards-Based Instruction, Professional Learning Communities, and Student Engagement! He makes time to listen, truly listen! #myolatheschools#tlap
A7) I am hoping that preparation will help me to do well with my time management. This year I want to be immersed in the teaching and learning. That involves being in the classrooms consistently, attending department meetings/PLCs, etc. #BalanceLAP#tlap
A7: When I start writing and creating something new, time flies by. I have no idea that I'm in #flow. I just wrote and published a post on that today on Levels of Engagement https://t.co/nViSMaAdJu. Spent hours on it and may make more changes. #TLAP
A7: Building relationships and big ideas take time but I feel I do a pretty good job balancing my time. You have to know when to take a break and take time for your personal life. #tlap
A6: I started a blog this year and it has been a big part of my professional growth. Along with that participating in 2-3 Twitter chats per week when I can. We are better together! #tlap
A7: I am changing jobs this yr. going from Elem. for 13 yrs to 6-8. I know that it will be challenging. but to learn from my team & to teach my team from what I bring to the table! #tlap

#tlap - I saw some incredible folks - be sure to follow one another to keep the learning going past Mondays (Even though Mondays are my favorite!) You rock, friends!
A7: My Gifted SAT (Student Assistance Team) position takes a lot of extra time & is balanced w/my teaching position but sometimes laps into my prep time. I hope to strategically plan & balance btwn the two more efficiently this year, growing from the lessons I learned. #tlap
A7: I know that I feel most effective when my planning and preparation is at it's best...I have a hunch it will help with time management & balance as well. I want to feel more practice and less reactive in the coming year! #tlap
A7: Working as a T with at risk Ss in a continuation HS there are often complex problems. Connecting Ss to the appropriate resources & then checking in, loving them, & providing support everday. Not trying to fix every problem alone. #tlap#balancelap
My CTA is to take care of things as they come in....stop procrastinating as much as I do. This is a constant battle. I like the "touch things once rule" except I'm more of a "make a pile for later" girl. #tlap#BalanceLAP
A7: I love learning, reflecting, collaborating, & pushing myself to be better each day! I also love supporting & empowering others. The more I have empowered others to take on leadership roles, the more I’ve grown as a leader. #tlap
