Hello! Three day weekend turned into two day weekend due to a makeup snow day, but I’m excited to see my firsties tomorrow! Megan Crump, first grade teacher from Cumberland, VA #1stchat
A1: Every child is unique. If we give choice, we allow them to use their strengths and talents to share their learning. We need to fill their tool boxes. #1stchat
A1: Ss are much more engaged when it's something they have chosen to do. Choosing rather than being told can really get students excited about what they are working on! Taking ownership and making it their own! #1stchat
A1 Choice is just that it gives students a choice in their learning. It also gives them control over their own learning which contributes to engagement! #1stchat
A1: Providing choice allows students to be in charge of their own learning. That choice can be guided by the teacher, but....they don’t have to know that! Students are 100% engaged when they have choice. #1stchat
A1 Voice and choice allows are students to create their own content to really show us what they know. So often when we control voice/choice we control what they can share with us. #1stchat
A1 By providing choice and voice we can establish a student-centered learning environment. They will be the driving force of their own learning:) #1stchat
Hi, I am Candice and I teach elementary tech in Missouri. I am excited to learn connect with other teachers and learn more about student voice #1stchat
A2: In our room Choice is big during Center Time. Students get to pick between different activities and do 2-3 out of 10 per day. Don't feel like writing today? That's ok! Pick something else and get to writing another time! #1stchat
A2 encouraging inquiry, flexible seating, SS choice work! For example, lego wall, google slides unscramble, green screen & etc. A S said “this is more like a house than a classroom”! #1stchat
A2: variety of learning areas, assorted tools and materials, multiple ways of grouping for instruction, students engaged in and sharing in their learning experiences #1stchat
A2 Voice in my room is about caring schools community where we share in a circle learning, feelings and problem solve. Although I know choice is good I don't always have choice in my room and tend to not give up that control. Something I need to work on #1stchat
I'm not a teacher, but I would think voice in a classroom is allowing children to present ideas in their own way, but also having the teacher present lessons in multiples ways so every type of learner can benefit! #1stchat#edit2000mane
A2 Ts really need to get to know the students. We can't just provide the same choices every year. Our job is to create multiple path ways for students to reach their learning goals. #1stchat
It is theirs, but I have found they still need us to support and give them opportunity to see that. Sometimes I control it some, to let them try something they might not otherwise. We have to still lead. #1stchat
A2: Students have a choice and voice in Room 9 includes seating preference, Daily 5, and other learning opportunities. My students use their voice ALL the time. It not only makes me students happy and engaged but it makes my heart full. #1stchat
Amen!! Love the comfortable, flexible seating component. Learning happens everywhere and most when we are comfortable and safe in our environment IMO #1stchat
A2 encouraging inquiry, flexible seating, SS choice work! For example, lego wall, google slides unscramble, green screen & etc. A S said “this is more like a house than a classroom”! #1stchat
Yes! And we need to watch and listen to how they learn. Each child is so different and that's the beauty of our job. Finding what works best for each one. #1stchat
A2 The first step that I take for choice and voice is to teach them self awareness and self regulation. What works for you? What are your goals and how will you get there? We are the support. #1stchat
A2: I would create a positive learning environment full of voice & choice by giving them many options for activities and different mediums of working (exp. reading on the floor, at a table, with a partner, alone). Overall, i'd work with them to help them learn best. #1stchat
A2: When I have my own classroom, I hope to allow my students to be actively engaged by doing activities like teaching the lesson in their own way or giving their voice on what makes the most sense to them. #1stchat
A3: We are working on using tech more for collaboration in our classroom. Looking forward to using the chat and comment functions in @GoogleClassroom and @Seesaw to allow students to comment on what they are working on and learn from each other #community#1stchat
A3 Because I am currently taking my Masters in Curriculum Studies with a concentration in technology this program allows me to learn to use technology and then integrate it into my classroom providing students choice in Ipads, chromebooks etc. #1stchat
A3: I want the learning in my classroom to be transparent. I find apps such as @Seesaw and @Flipgrid allow me to do this while giving Ss ownership & voice #1stchat
A3 in 1st grade I have 2 teach SS how 2 use technology & different tools. Once they learn I get 2 give SS more choice! What will they put on @Seesaw ? Will they use @DoInkTweets ? @PowToon@AdobeSpark or @googleslides so many possibilities for choice !#1stchat
A3: There are SO many tools. I think about the tools, and which would match the goal. I will then also ask input of what else that might think of using and how. They love learning new tools. #1stchat
A3: Digital Learning Day is this week! I’m planning on using Epic to allow my students to create their own research project on a Winter Olympic sport. I’m debating incorporating a green screen. I’m always itching to use more technology. It’s the future! #1stchat
A3: Tech provides many tools that offer choice and voice. They can create with apps like @Seesaw, @DoInkTweets & @PicCollage to show learning. @Flipgrid is fantastic for providing a format for voice. So many options! #1stchat
A2: teacher prep- how you will provide different options. Teaching students expectations and producures in the beginning so things run smoothly! Lots of collaboration and connections taking place as students engage in authentic learning! #1stchat
Yes!!! This is exactly what I referred to when I mentioned backchaining. Allowing Ss to have choice in how they show their learning is EXTREMELY powerful! #1stchat

A3: Once Ss know a couple of apps they are able to choose the app that works best for them to show their learning. It doesn’t all look the same anymore. #1stchat
A3 Technology adds variety in choice. Some ss love tech, others don't. Tech can help ss dig deeper into learning also. There are so many great tools to record student voice such as @EasyblogDotOrg@BookCreatorApp@Seesaw@Twitter#1stchat
A3: In my future classroom, I will use technology to promote voice and choice by allowing the option of technology for learning purposes. This will drive my curriculum in a new direction by having more options in the classroom which leads to more interested students. #1stchat

A3: Tech is a powerful enhancement to instruction however we can’t let the tool outshine the learning. The learning still needs to be the primary focus. #1stchat
A3: I love how tech makes our learning global, @seesaw skype, so may others let’s Ss share their learning and learn to comment on others learning. #1stchat
A3 My students have been taught a few tools to use to create their learning. I may also introduce new, specific tools for those who are asking or would flourish with them. #1stchat

A3 So many tools have multiple entry points, and creation options. I think of something like @BookCreatorApp . So many ways for my Ks, 1s, 2s and my 3s to be successful at their level with the same tool. #1stchat
YES, tech should NOT be the main focus but rather looked at as a tool to enhance and integrate into the learning. Objectives still need to be looked at #1stchat
For me I don't want technology to be my drive. Then you get overwhelmed on focusing on the tools and not the outcome. I use tech as a tool to enhance the curriculum already in place!
Right on!!!! Tech is a wonderful addition and can add many layers- virtual field trips, connecting outside your class, etc but should not outshine good teaching #1stchat

Yes, I sign up for every one he does. He does well teaching about many cultures as well. He is very kid friendly. I'd love to see him earn some grants and such to create more. #1stchat
Obviously. That is what I love about @Seesaw but curriculum is nice because digital citizenship is more than just teaching them how comment on others work. That is something we do when we start using @seesaw each year.#1stchat

A4: I see quiet students sharing so much more on @Flipgrid Creative kids loving things like @Buncee Communication and collaboration increasing and improving. Learning about cultures they'd never know. #1stchat I could go on and on
A4 Students can now do more. They can better share their thinking by adding their voice. They have more options than pencil and paper to show learning. #1stchat
A4 SS are more engaged, proud of their work, thinking more globally & taking their learning to the next level. Instead of just "learning" they are actually applying their learning in so many different ways. This is my first year teaching 1st grade & I am amazed! #1stchat
A4: Using techonology allows some of the struggling learners to excel. Technology is becoming the way of the 21st century learner and most of the time with technology it's about voice and choice #1stchat
A4: I also love that Ss ASK to share their learning... Can I share this w/ my mom on @Seesaw? Can we post this on Twitter for our buddy classes to see? #authenticaudience#1stchat
A4 also technology is giving many SS who are normally shy or nervous about speaking aloud a voice. With so many tools, SS are able to participate in a way that works for them. #1stchat
A4: Overall the quality is improving and they are finding more value in what they produce. The feedback they are able to receive from peers helps them to be more motivated to produce quality work. #1stchat

You can go here, look at the schedule and sign up. You have a choice of on camera or off camera spots. He is also on Youtube and you can look at some he has done. https://t.co/49V0iDeClB#1stchat
I'm not entirely sure how my teammate got us hooked up, but the presenter taught all about Abraham Lincoln's early life and using google maps he showed us his first cabin, and first house. The presenter also kept us engaged with Kahoot!
As a student who was very shy, I think these platforms are amazing for shy students and are a great way to get everyone to participate! #1stchat#edit2000mane
A4 their work can be shared further now too to a much wider audience. I love the sharing my students do on their blogs. They way they support each other too. https://t.co/ppvLteYm1W#1stchat
I love how all Ss have a voice and are aware that we are not alone in our corners the earth. There are first graders all over learning like we are, #1stchat
A4: A lot of my kiddos are making suggestionsto me on things to add to our classroom practice. They suggest apps to use and often will beg for certain tools. They are comfortable to express choices. They are taking an active role. #1stchat
I've had students who are too shy to share in front of the class, but can create a video or add their voice to their learning and then share that with their classmates. Technology opens up so many doors for so many of our learners. #1stchat
Changing the environment is allowing students to be more confident in their work. And the more confidence a student has, the more likely he/she is to try new things! #1stchat#edit2000mane

A6: We use various apps to help us showcase our French oral language skills in class. Often students can be shy about trying out new language or vocabulary in front of their peers but recording or video can take those fears away! #1stchat
A6 @Seesaw has been a huge way to do this. SS are able to showcase their work to each other, their Ps, other classes & so much more. Using @Flipgrid & @padlet have been other good ways to do this. Plus QR code walls and interactive bulletin boards. #1stchat
A6: we publish our writing with @ChatterPixIt or @DoInkTweets , and put our work in @seesaw for parents to see and seesaw blog for connected classes to see, also twitter and class Facebook. #1stchat
A6: We use google classroom to share our work. I have also used document cams to show exemplars or using it to show a writing strategy e.g editing etc. Students love to share their work with others and then use voice 2 make comments/suggestions #1stchat
A6: Global and collaborative projects are perfect for showcasing. We also share on our school hashtag, with our admin and district using Twitter. Parents on @ClassDojo#1stchat
