We will use the Q & A format as we usually do (Q1...A1, etc.) and please don't forget to use #espechat in your responses to make our chat easier to track!
Tonight, we will be discussing our favorite equipment in PE! Be ready to show examples of activities/uses of the equipment highlighted in each question! Bonus points for "in action" pics and videos, as are telling us how you aligned GLOs to your examples! #espechat
Q1) DICE, DICE, BABY! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving DICE! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
A1 I absolutely ❤️ dice bonk from @MikeMorrisPE , cardio dice warm up, and I’m planning on trying locomotor dice warm w K-2 as a way to ✅ Ss locomotor skills. I use dice bonk w throwing skills overhand throw to 🎯 or disc throwing using frisbees. #espechat
A1: I use dice for what I call the box game. I have a paper in a box lid w exercises in different shapes. Ss roll the die, and do that exercise that many times. Older Ss I add in math probs. S5. E3 #espechat
A1: We have several that involve dice here: https://t.co/4LmnIxLry1 If you don't have dice you can use the "virtual dice" or if you do, just project the Slide and let your kids go to it!! So fun! Standards/GLOs are listed. #espechat
A1 my students enjoy dice games that I’ve acquired from @physedreview’s book of dice games. Ss love “higher or lower”. I observe S4 and their ability to follow directions/work with others. #espechat

Q2) HOOP IT UP! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving HULA HOOPS! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
I use one of those dice as well from time to time. Cup stacking is one of those activities that I find hard to align to GLOs. What GLOs do you work on with your dice and cupstacking? #espechat
A1We are using dice almost every day! Today we used them for our jumping station. How many times do I GET to jump over this stretch band or up on the box...roll the dice to find out! #espechat
A1) 4 corners fitness. Pick a corner(which you complete an exercise)while person in the middle rolls the dice:if it lands on 1,2,3,or4 that corner goes to the flexibility zone to complete stretches If it lands on a 5, all students in flexibility zone re-enter play area. #espechat
A1 Cont.) if it lands on a 6 all students, must complete an exercise chosen by the person who rolled the dice. Each of the corners represents a fitness component, which hits Standard 3 #espechat
A2: I really like the team building activity I recently saw with 2 students balancing a hoop on 2 ropes and they have to move across the gym without dropping the hoop. Love the communication required. (S4.M5.6) #espechat
Q2) HOOP IT UP! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving HULA HOOPS! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
Q3) X MARKS THE SPOT! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving POLY SPOTS! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
A2 Presented a Disc Golf webinar for GOPHER this summer & we used hula hoops in an evaporation game. Partners line the outside of a rectangle playing area. Fill the inside w 100+ hulas. Putt your disc. If it stays in the hoop your group takes the hoop. #ESPEchat
Just did this today in a few builds with my 5th graders. We used it in alignment with S4.E2 as we talked about the word "collaborate" and what it means through the lens of this activity. Ss did well working with one another through different challenges I gave them #espechat
Here is an adaptation of the Ninja jump rope challenge by @pe4everykid . We used a grade 2 sheet with Kinder and 1st graders, and they had to jump in and out of the hoop and mark off the sheet. They took turns counting and jumping. #physed
A2) I love hula hoops for striking with short handled implements. Nice target on the floor. Can build up to a small sided game such as... https://t.co/bBjfiyY7aO#espechat
A3) Poly-spots are great for this time of year when discussing space as it relates to moving our bodies in different locomotor movements. Standard 1 #espechat
I'm beginning to think that the GLOs in S4 & S5 are way more important that all the others. I might just start doing cooperative activities the whole year #espechat
A2 I use them for targets in S1 for underhand toss, also use it for S1 jumping, hoping.. Inside, outside, right, left, over, under, which also helps classroom standards. I also them drive their cars while holding hoop for S4, safety, self space. #espechat
A2 I use hula hoops a lot. I ❤️ hula groupin Ss in groups of 2 or 3- 1 in the middle other on outside holding hoop, then they move across the court or field doing various locomotor skills. I’m checking how do they work together as a group, can they do the skill. #espechat
A3) Aside from GLO's poly spots are ESSENTIAL when it comes to differentiation and marking areas/groups. #espechat Just thought I'd throw that in there
Q3) X MARKS THE SPOT! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving POLY SPOTS! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
A3: Marshmallow river. Ks needing to work together to get across the river of hot chocolate by staying on the marshmallows. Got this from @terridr99 (S4. E1) #ESPECHAT
Anything throwing and catching with a partner, S1. Many students struggle to get to the right spot with appropriate amount of space in between if they do it on their own. #espechat
Q4) BOOT SCOOTIN' BOOGIE! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving SCOOTERS! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
A2 I used hoops as timers when kids doing different fitness activities at a station. Spin the hoop and do the exercise until it stops. We wore our FitStep Pros and checked our step count and wrote on the whiteboard our numbers. #espechat
A3. Polyspots can be used with a start point for Dance E5. Space S2.E1. They can be used for numerous activities and probably can be used with most standards. #espechat
I have even adapted it and use it all the way up through 6th. Ss still love it. I used it w parents last year, and it was the biggest hit! W that there were kids on shoulders! #ESPECHAT
Q3) I like using them for location areas. I used them today for students dribbling and stopping/trapping a soccer ball on a dot when the music stops. Dot for everyone. Foot skills can be done with other types of manipulate objects also. #ESPECHAT
I use them mostly for warm-up exercises like from @justybubPE and S4 when they push each other through obstacle course but need to communicate effectively #espechat
I like how scooters slow Ss down compared to doing a similar activity while traveling on their feet. Good piece of equipment to use in smaller spaces IMO #espechat
A3 Scooter pinball is my go-to invasion game. Helps put everyone on the same level rather than using bball. No dribbling needed. Just offense and defense s2e5 for 4th and 5th #espechat
#espechat A4 @Mr_C_PE has shared many gifs using scooters for strength training methods that can be used for multiple grade levels and modifications. Great job Ross. My 8thG Ss loved the different challenges especially for core.
A3 We upgraded to 12 inch scooters w inline wheels this past year. Man they are smooth. We did a Cha Cha slide on scooters as a lead up Activity. #ESPEchat
Q5) GREAT BALLS OF FIRE! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving different kinds of BALLS! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
A3 I use poly spots for all grades. Today w kinder Ss were hoping and jumping and the spots were the bunny holes. Ss can also hold them as another way to create space while moving in an area. It’s so helpful w teaching Ss about space and boundaries. #espechat
Divide gym and class in half. All on scooters EXCEPT 2 or 3 “goalies” who are protecting the pins (5 for small games, 10 for big) on their side in the “goalie zone” marked by small cones. Ss throw balls at pins to knock them down. Ss can’t roll with a ball #espechat
A5 today I played a game from I think @pe4everykid where they caught each piece of equipment, including several different balls, 10 times, then switch equipment. Then, they add up how many total catches. S1 catching #espechat

I know there are some throwing and catching on the move GLOs for 5th grade for sure. Will be working on that this year with my crew during the winter months for a bit #espechat
I take a lot of time to layer game piece by piece. 1st no goalies (balls get stuck, how can we fix it?), then add goalies, then no rolling with a ball. Ss really pick up offense and defense.#espechat
I let the Ss choose. Most older Ss choose a regular basketball. A lot of younger Ss gravitate toward the playground balls for hand dribbling GLOs #espechat
Q6) WELCOME TO THE CONE ZONEEE! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving CONES! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
Enjoying developing different types of activities to challenge my 5th grades. Started the year off with PSR and Invasion. Students loved working progressions then into switch and team handball. #espechat
Love the self paced progression here! I made something similar but mine is just words. I like your use of pictures to help Ss understand the challenge better! #espechat

Catapult: Saw this on twitter last year & was waiting for the right time to use it. @MrLosePE suggested using Catapult to teach the difference between Cardiorespiratory Endurance & Muscular Endurance. Fit perfectly, Ss ❤️ it, & 👍🏼😅🏃🏼♂️🏃🏾♀️. #Physed#Rhes19
A6 I use them for coordinating teams, stations. Not necessarily GLO's, but ways to help lessons run smoothly with less confusion. Yellow group has yellow hoop, yellow cone, and yellow ball. Easy peezy. #espechat
A6 i love the RAINBOW! Colored cones define us here at a primary school. Wait behind the red cone Hop on your red hippity hop around the red cone back and place it in the red frisbee!#espechat
A6: I use cones for setup more than as equipment for an actual lesson. I wouldn't be able to reach any standards w/o cones being part of almost every lesson. #espechat
I know but I just love them so much. My school didn’t have any when I came. I asked the kids and they said the previous teacher threw them away #espechat
I like 5” Voit All Around or Softi. I really like many of the adapted balls for all students. Like the slam balls and the large easy grip balls. #ESPECHAT
Q7) YANKEE NOODLE DANDY! Show/tell us about your favorite uses and activities involving NOODLES! What @SHAPE_America GLOs are your students working toward in your examples? #espechat
A7 Noodles are my favorite equipment. Work on hand-eye coordination, catching, balancing, exploring creativity, teamwork, communication, doing push-ups (going down to touch noodle), I think every GLO possible ha. #espechat Example of "Noodle Walk" for teamwork, S4:
A2 I like to combine them via zip tie or tape and use them as an agility on jumping ladder for warmups. Off of 2 and onto 2 into each hoop. hopping as well, 1 to 1 and different combinations. Kids love to jump and hop. Animal visuals? Frogs jump across pond...
S1 E3 #espechat
#PEHack! Feed rope through noodles 2 create a very versatile and flexible piece of equipment! I will use them for mini golf hole dividers, but already thinking of other uses...boundaries, pathways, balance beams, shapes, letters. Collapses easily 4 storage too! #physed#espechat
STEM In The Gym: Coding a human Sphero Ball. 1st make the obstacle course maze. 2nd provide the proper coding to successfully navigate your @Sphero Ball through the maze. #Campstemovation#Rhes18
A7: coming up on our coop activities unit, I like Ross' "DON"T LET IT DROP" activity shown in his resources section at https://t.co/ibOH3ubMUW#espechat

Thank you to all who have joined us this evening for another installment of #espechat! So much great sharing! Until next time, teach them well #physed fam!
A7: coming up on our coop activities unit, I like Ross' "DON"T LET IT DROP" activity shown in his resources section at https://t.co/ibOH3ubMUW#espechat
Don't let it drop is a great one. Will be starting cooperatives with 3rd and 4th grade in a week and a half. It will make an appearance along with "Blind Builders" for sure #espechat
