Being a Connected Educator- What’s It All About? In honor of
Connected Educator Appreciation Day - October 20 #CEduAD. Please tell us who you are and where you're from!
Well, I love them! I had a former student I had 7 years ago approach me in a city 2.5 hours away! I only had her for a month and she was crazy happy to see me! I'm so glad she walked up to introduce herself! #4thchat
A1: We connect through PLC time (1/week); team meetings; social gatherings and district wide PD (as well as the usual day to day kinds of chats!). #4thchat
A1 I go over and talk to them. We basically do a quick morning check in with our pod. District people is kind of hard we are kind of separated #4thchat
A1: Last semester I observed a fourth-grade classroom and noticed how close all of the teachers were in the school. They seemed to mainly communicate via email and throughout the day #4thchat
Do you ever have Grade Level meetings across the district. Our elem staff got together last Friday during an early release to talk Science and some were doing Fundations. #4thchat
A2: One gal started a closed FB group for our school's teachers. I follow a few on #instagram . Not too many on Twitter and they are missing out!! #4thchat
A2: some of the places I connect our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I got on Twitter because it was a suggestion from My husband @swkreed. I joined FB groups and then got suggestions for a Instagram. #4thchat
Yes...I forgot about Staff Meetings. Today at our staff meeting with skyped with author, Ross Greene. He wrote: Lost at School. It was a great chat. #4thchat

A2: I got started by doing the Edublog Challenge which led me to Twitter...many years ago & I'm so glad I did. I've been connected with folks ever since. #4thchat I also connect on FB with special interest groups & Google +
We haven’t had grade level collaboration in a while. We just got a new director of elementary we think she is going to implement grade level collaboration again. #4thchat
At first I kept FB personal - now I love it as a professional way to connect with others! #4thchat I will have to check out those you mention. #4thchat
A3: Being a #connectededucator is so inspiring. You can ask for ideas and share them. It's good to feel supported and that others are in the same boat. It's definitely worth it! #4thchat
A3: Social media and technology in general are great tools for educators to use to connect with other teachers all around the world. They can find new ideas to use in their classrooms, and can build their PLNs through social media. #4thchat
A3: So many benefits! It challenges me to learn new things, see what other 4th grades are doing out of state, and to ask ?s and support from other Ts. So many great things have been shared back and forth, esp hyperdocs. #4thchat
A3: Some benefits of being a connected educator are that you can learn new ideas and ways to teach topics from the educators you connect with. Its always a great idea to learn from other educators and try new activities in your classroom! #4thchat
A3: Being a #connectededucator can allow so many opportunities to share resources and ideas through teachers worldwide! It also allows a support system and new learning opportunities! #4thchat#moravianar
A3: I think the benefits of being a connected educator is that you have a wider area to learn from and grow. Other people who are doing the same thing u are can inspire you and be your ear when you are feeling down. I’m constantly learning new things from my ##PLN#4thchat
My elementary teachers were a close community too! We had a reunion of our elem & many of them attended. https://t.co/HD8mb8GRBK#4thchat The Good Ole Days
A4 Some challenges, of course, are differences in time zones, schedules and maybe even grade levels. But I've found that those challenges can be bridged if both parties take on a collaborative and problem solving mindset. #4thchat
I think more and more teachers are joining the Twitter bandwagon...or at least have Class Twitter accounts. Love to see the colleges getting their students to participate in chats!!! #4thchat
Q4: Some challenges that can come from being connected are that it can be time consuming and technology issues can always arise which can make it difficult to stay connected all of the time. The positives of being connected definitely outweigh the few challenges. #4thchat
A4: I believe finding time to stay connected and being flexible with trying some of the new ideas other educators share with you would be challenging. #4thchat
A4: over the summer I was doing so many twitter chats and learning a lot. I also don’t feel like I’m doing enough when I am connected cause other teachers feel so put together. It’s kinda a catch 22. #4thchat
Jenny, this looks great. I have done two truths and one lie, but have made up my own. This resource looks like it would help with the finding of good examples. Does it? #4thchat
Cassandra, I know what you mean about feeling like others have a better handle on things and that makes you feel less adequate, but keep at it. It's important to make those connections. They help us grow. #4thchat
I sometimes think teachers feel like they should look put together because they are used to doing that in front of students. I am guessing someone might think I am put together! :) #4thchat
A5: I encourage others to be connected by inviting them to Facebook groups and showing them resources that I found from others! I also show them how to use technology if they are hesitant! #4thchat#moravianar
A5: I encourage others by sharing things that have been shared with me. The biggest obstacle is getting them to understand how incredibly helpful it is instead of "just one more thing." #4thchat
Q5: I have been emailing cool activities to the other 4th Ts with the note "Saw this on Twitter and wanted to pass along". They were so thrilled with great tech resources I've found, they ask about joining too. #4thchat
A6: My amazing PLN has taught me so many things- try new things, share what you know, think outside the box, encourage others, and we are #bettertogether. #4thchat
You can definitely do that - I'm wondering if there is a way I can help my teachers bring technology into their science lessons in a meaningful way that will be seen as a timesaver - not an add on! #4thchat
Just wondering where you might be my friend, @cybraryman1 with your fab resources and here you are! Thank you so much! Great book by the way! Lots of fun projects. #4thchat
A6: I just started to learn about the importance of PLNs and feel I have already started to build upon mine through my classroom placements and participating in Twitter chats like this one. It's so great to hear from educators and learn what works best for all of you. #4thchat
A6 I have learned so much and found new professional colleagues, some I see once a year, some we Zoom and work on shared lessons using Google docs anc more #4thchat
A6: One of my teachers in my #PLN shared the idea of creating hands on activities from the book they are reading in class. Ex: They were reading the book Thundercake and made actual thundercake as a class. I plan to take this Idea to my future classroom! #4thchat
My world (& my students' world) opened up when we started doing Mystery Location Calls! We learned so much about the schools in other areas! #4thchat Kids loved it!
I love doing book studies online. I’m thinking about starting one with either What’s Your Evidence cConstructing Explanations in Science or Ambitious Science Teaching #4thchat any interest?
I know exactly what your talking about. I wonder, "How do they DO that???". I feel like any connection you make will lead you one step closer to being a better educator! #4thchat
A4: over the summer I was doing so many twitter chats and learning a lot. I also don’t feel like I’m doing enough when I am connected cause other teachers feel so put together. It’s kinda a catch 22. #4thchat
Sometimes, you do have to take a step back. I was an avid blogger, but over the last 3 years, I haven't blogged as much...picking & choosing my connections online. I'm almost out of RAM - lol #4thchat
A6: I learned so much from being a part of the #HiveSummit and #ditchsummit this summer about sketchnoting, hyperdocs, being Real, assessments, gamification, etc. #4thchat
A7: Since social media and technology are so prevalent today it is great to help encourage your students to get connected. A great way to do so is to use online tools such a Voice Thread to help share your Ss work with other students in different parts of the world. #4thchat
It's so true, Emma that the technology can almost get in the way of being connected. It can be frustrating when it doesn't work correctly...I agree "positives outweigh the few challenges"...nicely put! #4thchat
Q4: Some challenges that can come from being connected are that it can be time consuming and technology issues can always arise which can make it difficult to stay connected all of the time. The positives of being connected definitely outweigh the few challenges. #4thchat
A7: I believe you can help students become connected by using online tools in class and having them interact and share ideas with other classrooms. I loved when my teacher had us write to students from another school just to create new relationships.#4thchat
A8: To practice Google #DigitalCitizenship I often think out loud when I am doing something on my teacher computer. ie, "Ok, here is one source about penguins, let's find 2 other sources to make sure." #4thchat
Q5: I have been emailing cool activities to the other 4th Ts with the note "Saw this on Twitter and wanted to pass along". They were so thrilled with great tech resources I've found, they ask about joining too. #4thchat
Great point, Julianna. As educators we need to be 'flexible'! It is important as we become connected but also in all other areas of our work! Thanks for sharing that. #4thchat
A4: I believe finding time to stay connected and being flexible with trying some of the new ideas other educators share with you would be challenging. #4thchat
Often it seems like social media takes us away from face to face interaction, but it has also brought me great real life friendships. I remember meeting many of you and it felt like a reunion insstrad of a stranger I’d never met. #4thchat
One of my favorites is a learning experience I developed called Thinking Like A Scientist: Asking Questions and Defining Problems. I’m willing to share. I have one for Transfer of Energy DM me if you want to know more #4thchat
A5: I encourage others by sharing resources and sharing how I connect with others. I have also shared my connections with others to help them build their PLN. #4thchat
A9: I feel like so much has been given to me through connections, I want to help more people realize the advantages of connecting. I love the Ed majors who are so ahead of the game with this! If only I had Twitter, YouTube and Pinterest starting out! #4thchat

A3 I tried for my level 1 Google ed certification. Didn't even know it was a thing before twitter. #GRA18 and #2019MBM are just a few examples of Connection #4thchat

A9: I would love to meet other educators that I met on twitter in person! Going to a conference would be a great experience as well! #4thchat#moravianar
A9: I want to pay it forward...Help others connect - even if it is between buildings! Happy to share my love of Twitter; Seesaw & other tools that ultimately help our students learn! It's ALL about Impacting Student Learning! #4thchat
I started a Twitter account just today to help share out things from my district so that they can all learn from each other and the amazing things going on. It's hard when you have over 80 schools... #4thchat
A8: I do my best to follow "etiquette" for connecting on Social Media and try to be aware of giving credit to creators, websites, etc. when sharing. #4thchat
Jenn - this is SO important and often overlooked (not on purpose). Love to see you mention this - it's great modeling for your students as well! #digitalcitizenship#4thchat#CEduAD
