Good evening!! Welcome to our collaborative #r12digin#BmoreEdChat Twitter chat! We’ll be using the Q1/A1 format this evening. Let’s get started by telling us who you are, where you’re from and a venture you’ve always been interested in starting!
Hi all!! Jessica, Ed Specialist at ESC Region 12 here in TX...I’m a 1/4 of the #r12digin team! I’ve always wanted to run a children’s bookstore/bakery #foodie#r12digin#BmoreEdchat
Hey guys! Alex here from Citrus County, Florida where I serve @LecantoHigh as an Asst. Principal. My dream venture? Writing a book in the near future... #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A1: Lisa from Baltimore. I teach Early Childhood Special Ed. I haven't considered about starting a venture, but I'm trying to push myself so it's something I'll try to determine. #BMoreEdChat
Josh from @LoyolaEducation . The venture I dreamed became a reality when I co-founded, with a @LoyolaMaryland graduate, @TransitioningU to bridge the research to practice divide. We help first-generation students transition to college and thrive #BmoreEdChat
Kari Espin, @Region12 Digital Innovation specialist. I’ve always wanted to learn more about business to help connect people with right resources to help them advance in their journey. #r12digin
A1: I view Ss entrepreneurship as an opportunity to take on an interest or a passion and create new opportunity for themselves and others. #r12digin#BmoreEdchat
A1) Being entrepreneurial means being more than simply problem solvers. Students must first be problem finders. The entrepreneur has a knack for finding a problem in a process or system that isn’t immediately obvious. #BmoreEdChat

Kari Espin, @Region12 Digital Innovation. Sorry in advance, I’m out to eat in San Antonio (#tcea) tweetjng and eating. 😂I’ve always wanted to learn more about business to help connect people with right resources to help them advance in their journey. #r12digin#BmoreEdchat
A1: To me student #entrepreneurship is giving an opportunity in school for students to pursue their passion in solving real problems to make a positive impact in the world. #r12digin#BmoreEdchat
A1: Student entrepreneurship means empowering students to think about the problems they want to solve in their communities (local and/or global) and fueling their curiosity to determine how they want to solve and what they need to learn to do so. Credit to @jcasap#BmoreEdchat
A2: Having an open mindset letting the students take the lead. This is tough coming from a structured environment that we are used to. Knowing there are many possibilities can be scary. #BMoreEdChat
Entrepreneurship isn’t always about making money...sometimes making a difference holds more value. Hats off to this young lady! #r12diginhttps://t.co/SfVtw1jeFg
Hey Rudy. Makes me think about leaders connecting community partnerships to provide real local application of this student ingenuity. #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A1) Being entrepreneurial also requires a student to believe that their ideas have value beyond the confines of your classroom’s 4 walls. To do so, the context of our classroom must shift from generic to genuine where student decisions have real impact & consequences #BmoreEdChat

A2: Allowing your mind to think interdisciplinary is important...to help entrepreneurs succeed we have to move beyond single content teaching. #r12digin#BmoreEdChat
It's a fantastic, cutting edge, AI-powered tool customizing the college experience to increase student awareness of available resources, incl. in-person, on campus, and as a result, persistence and degree completion. Can you tell I'm a fan? #BmoreEdchat
Josh from @LoyolaEducation . The venture I dreamed became a reality when I co-founded, with a @LoyolaMaryland graduate, @TransitioningU to bridge the research to practice divide. We help first-generation students transition to college and thrive #BmoreEdChat
A2: they must give up ownership of learning, support their Ss when they resist the system, and run interference with their parents/caregivers who might not be on board with doing education differently. #r12digin#BmoreEdChat
A2: Educators must develop a mindset of failure is not necessarily a negative thing. When pursuing a new venture it will not always work out the first time. If educators can show students how to fail gracefully and keep trying, our students will follow. #bmoreedchat#r12digin
A2: Educators must fully believe in their students and must work to create a safe environment open to the sharing of new ideas. They must also be open to allowing students to have a say in the path their learning follows #BmoreEdchat

@r12digin A 1: students garner the initiative on their own accord and use education with its facility as a protective umbrella guarding them within their failures and creativity. It shows them persistence and a “back to the drawing board” mentality. #r12digin#BmoreEdChat
A1: student entrepreneurship is students taking control of their education by putting in the effort. Giving students the opportunity to create and design in order to become successful learners. #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
Glad to join #BmoreEdChat tonight - I'm glad to share my latest venture, becoming a partner in @FourPoint_Ed, building a new body of work helping communities around the country support their students' college, career, and readiness!
Glad to join #BmoreEdChat tonight and thrilled to share my latest venture - becoming a partner @FourPoint_Ed, building a new body of work helping communities around the country support their students' college, career, and life readiness!
A3: Start them early with releasing the "power" (decision making) to them. Let them feel free to explore and make some decisions about what happens. #BMoreEdChat
A3: By creating opportunities for students to work on project based learning and by introducing students to entrepreneurs (even ones their age) to allow them to build connections between these entrepreneurs and themselves #BmoreEdchat
@r12digin A3: reward successful hard-work with desired outcomes. Reward failures with reality and encouragement (real-life teachable moments!) foster helping hands! Try try again but not everyone will be @chrishogan360...everyone can try. #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A3: Give them space to create and develop ideas. #makerspace is a great way to start. A few years ago, we had a 4th grade teams develop a products and had to present their products to community members, Shark Tank! Their creativity blew me away! #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A3: Don't underestimate Ss because of age...saw some amazing first graders getting exposure to entrepreneurial thinking at @BVBobcats ...lots of opportunity for idea sharing, development and collaborative problem solving! #r12digin#BmoreEdchat
Project-based learning!! Giving them the opportunity to show what they have learned in the way that they want to and feel comfortable implementing! #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
A3: Eliminate grades. Provide extensive feedback on effort, progress, and reflection on how Ss feel about school. Elimate subjects and focus on the passion to learn cool stuff. Make 1-5 grades feel like good Kindergarten education. #BmoreEdChat
Q2: just like a business, students should be able to inquire and explore. As teachers we shouldn’t just provide them with direct instruction all the time but the opportunity to be creative and apply different skills. Most importantly-asset based thinking! #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
Hey Rudy. Makes me think about leaders connecting community partnerships to provide real local application of this student ingenuity. #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A3: By giving them a menu of options that covers the same content. Allows you to teach what you have to, but gives them the power of choice #BmoreEdchat
#r12digin A4: student entrepreneurs must surround themselves with kindred spirits and harness the power of support. Student formed clubs and competitions like @TexasFFA are very supportive and encouraging. #BmoreEdChat
A4: Spent a lot of time witnessing and learning about @TED_ED student talks and I believe that the outcome of Ss sharing their thoughts and ideas is a powerful way to move towards entrepreneurship. Check it out! https://t.co/sTF7jYmFaP#r12digin#BmoreEdchat
A1: Student entrepreneurship & thinking is allowing students to use voice & creativity to take risks on their dreams and solutions to problems. Live local while thinking and acting globally. Not falling into the danger of futility as RFK spoke of. #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
A4: Since I teach business I actually teach an entrepreneurship class (I know not the same thing as the chat) but we are actually going to start a simulation. Lots of opportunity for individualizing the learning. #BmoreEdChat
A4: Odyssey of the Mind and Destination Imagination are great collaborative competitions which intertwine the various aspects of student leadership, planning, & application. #BmoreEdchat#r12digin

A4: create a school that was student centered. Let Ss define all of the components including start time, subjects, extra-curriculars, community partners, and lunch choices (of course), #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A4: SharkTank like competitions seem like a good start. I think they should focus more on something kids could produce or create now. #BMoreEdChat#r12digin
Yes!! So many powerful literature connections to get Ss thinking about entrepreneurship...my favorites are from Kobi Yamada..what about you? #r12digin#BmoreEdchat
A3: in order to facilitate the growth of student entrepreneurship, we need to set expectations in our classes. A lot of times at Lakeland elem./middle and I have conferences with the students to remind them of those expectations and their potential. #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
A4: I would love to see an “idea club” where creativity and diverse thinking is valued, kids feel safe with even ideas that seem ridiculous. Like minds come together to try and solve no matter how big. Invite others from community in and forge partnerships #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
A5: Definitely a blend. Student entrepreneurship is one way to begin to address the opportunity gap through partnerships, after school clubs, and extension activities. Cannot be afraid to push the system and believe our kids can do more. #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
A5: @jonlandis from Apple talked abt how so many people think that Ss are not motivated when really they are disinterested...I think that Ss entrepreneurship holds some keys to help solve this issue. #r12digin#BmoreEdchat
Q5: think about student life after school and the skills they need in the real world. Students will not remember the answers they memorized for a test later in life but they will remember the engaging activities that kept them interested in learning. #bmoreedchat

A5: Shift our thinking. Invest in relationships and rapport. Invest in the things kids want and incorporate that as much as possible in our teaching. Finally, quarterly projects that allow diverse thinkers to present ideas “expo” style #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
#r12digin A5: every aspect of life is a test... teachers should teach how to answer the right questions the right way then let them experience the next problem and discover the answer that works. #BmoreEdChat#experientiallearning
A4: Students should explore the clubs that they’re interested in or they’d like to learn more about because they’ll then be surrounded by like-minded people. #BmoreEdchat

Q5: To never forget why we wanted to teach in the first placeand what this profession is all about: the students. The relationshio you make with your students and how much you invest into them as a whole person is worth more than just “going by the curriculum”. #BmoreEdchat

A6: The Toolbank of MD did a great job supporting my kids & me in creating sustainable ways to improve lives in Baltimore. They were amazing thanks to help from @budldebate organizing the field trip #BmoreEdchat#r12diginhttps://t.co/ZXOGD9bu5T
A5: make education meaningful! That is what is going to get the students far in their ventures! Teach them the skills and how to apply them rather than attempting to teach exactly what is on the test #BmoreEdChat
I believe the movie was Kevin Costner in /Classroom of Dreams/ “If we listen they will come”. Student voice should be the driver not the passenger sometimes. Especially if we want some buy-in that can transform. #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A6: What Would You Do With an Idea and other books by Kobi Yamada are great resources that allow students to begin about new projects and encourages their confidence and love for creating #bmoreedchat

Q7: How will you reflect on what you have learned this evening and continue to use that information to create actionable change? Remember, small steps lead to big changes! #r12digin#BmoreEdChat
A6: being that I am a teacher candidate, I don’t have too much experience with success, but I have to say that I am a big proponent of project-based and student centered learning. Definitely working on that more in my classroom so will keep you updated! #BmoreEdchat
A7: Collaboratively plan extension activities with our math teachers so that ALL students receive the application piece of rigor. #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
A7: I will continue to look for new ways to incorporate student entrepreneurship in my classroom through literature will look into some of the organizations mentioned to continue to build my resources #bmoreedchat
Thank you so much to everyone who joined tonight's chat. Remember, #BmoreEdchat meets weekly at this time and #r12digin the first Wednesday of the month. Follow both hashtags for continuous learning!!
A7: I will return to my Day 1 Welcome. “What do you want to solve locally? What do you want to solve globally?” Flesh out their ideas. Begin brainstorming and invite other change agents and makers to make possibility kinetic instead of remain as potential #BmoreEdChat#r12digin
A7: I will try to implement more student centered learning and more choice so the students can take more ownership of their learning. Rather than just talking their ears off... #BmoreEdchat#r12digin
