A1 my definition would be having routines and procedures in place for everything and communicating clear instructions to all Learners in the classroom. Setting your expectations are important #UrbanEdChat
A1- the environment in which kids learn. The proactive practices in place to ensure all kids are engaged. The norms in which everyone is expected conduct themselves, and the response that happens when the norms are broken.
In one word: engagement.

A1: I think classroom management is more than a system of managing a classroom. It's the environment, communication, as well as systems that Ts put in place. #UrbanEdChat
A2- Rita Pierson said it best. Kids don’t learn from people they don’t like.
Relationships are the foundation. Expectations are the bricks on the foundation.

A2 building classroom relationships with their students has a tremendous effect on classroom management. Ss often feel that they are just a number or a person in the classroom which makes them not want to succeed. we can help make connections to how they learn #UrbanEdChat
A3-
Your kids need to know you care, but won’t make excuses for them. They need to know you value them but will push them. They want to see you at games, they want to know you see them, even at their worst that you will still believe in them.

A4- I dislike seeing management plans that are complex, wordy and sound “good”. A classroom built on the simple pillars that those in the class will value each other through knowing each other will trump a list of rules all day long.

A4) Classrooms built on relationships, equity and growth make learning possible... Ss deserve a place where the rules make SENSE and the adults are doing this WITH me- not to me or for me #UrbanEdChat
@UrbanEdChat I think classrooms where teachers make it a priority to build relationships as part of the culture tend to see less classroom management issues. The expectation is that learning takes place in an environment of mutual respect. #UrbanEdChat
A6) be INTENTIONAL - greet them at the door, make the environment say your voice and community are welcome here, listen to them and give them opportunities for authentic expression #UrbanEdChat
A6-

Ask about their day
Attend their events/games

I know I have many students who will only work for me. The could care less about school or grades or learning. I keep trying to change that but I’ll take what I can get. #UrbanEdChat
And I end with “Who’s awesome?” They are supposed to say, “I am!” but I have a surprising number of 7th graders who cry or CAN’T say that. 😢 #urbanedchat
