#edmodochat Archive
Twitter Chats are a great way for you and other educators to collaborate, generate new ideas, and discuss various Edmodo-topics. During Twitter Chats, moderators lead a conversation on Twitter about a specific topic using a pre-determined #hashtag on every tweet, and participants can join in the conversation by responding with that #hashtag.
The amazing Edmodo Support Ambassadors organize a Twitter Chat every first and third Sunday of the month at 8pm Eastern using the hashtag #edmodochat.

Hi to everyone! Having a slow start this school year, but excited now!
A1: involves presenting content information through the web or video at home so that classtime can be used for practice
A1: Flipped learning, having S's or T's listen or watch initial content to use class/PD time for group work, Q&A, diving deeper.
A1 It's a pedagogical approach that reverses, extends & personalizes learning paths & fosters 21st century hard & soft skills
A1 Instruction provided to Ss using blended learning methods. Ss use tech such as to learn content prior to class
. Does the presenting of content info only have to be done at home? Have you heard of in-class flip?
Do you find this useful in your classroom or are students resistant? https://t.co/pnxnKjcjkF
A1: involves presenting content information through the web or video at home so that classtime can be used for practice
Q1 - a way to introduce/explain new material at home to maximize engaging instructional time in class!
. A1 To me Flipped Classrooms give students more autonomy. This frees up classroom time to dig deeper!
How is this working for you https://t.co/7QaPK3UMAU
A1: Flipped learning, having S's or T's listen or watch initial content to use class/PD time for group work, Q&A, diving deeper.
. "learning paths" ... I really like your terminology!
How does this work in your class https://t.co/1lWLEEuIeg
A1 It's a pedagogical approach that reverses, extends & personalizes learning paths & fosters 21st century hard & soft skills
No, but "outside of classroom" put me over 140. . . ;-)
Hello, ! Vanita from TX, ESA & ECT
A1: Allowing access to learning outside class, facilitating usage inside class
Have you ever done this In class
does it always have to be at home? What abt equity?
I'm working w/T's now, so they are easier to get to do "homework" before PD.
Tell me more about digging deeper https://t.co/GObMnqhQSD
. A1 To me Flipped Classrooms give students more autonomy. This frees up classroom time to dig deeper!
My role is w/State DoE and Preservice instructor- My people LOVE flipped. Worked well when I was still in classroom
A1: Flipped is present content outside of class so you spend time practicing/appying in class.
YES! Autonomy! I like running an asynchronous flipped class. Frees the T from front of room
Love the idea of PD https://t.co/csCTISy4an
I'm working w/T's now, so they are easier to get to do "homework" before PD.
Running a little late, but here nevertheless!
Q2: Why should you flip your class? (some of you mention the "why" in your definition of flip) :-) https://t.co/qLseE1BH2v
Have you had any opps to try? https://t.co/xCjoe9JAEk
A1: Flipped is present content outside of class so you spend time practicing/appying in class.
A2: Gives you more time to help students understand and utilize the instruction; allows for differeniation
Thanks, Kate - glad to be here!
A2 It allows remediation, extension & optimization of time & resources with scaffolding, feedback and autonomous learning .
I love not being tethered to front of the room. Ss advocate for help instead of me controlling their learning
A2: Flipping gives you more time in class/PD to clarify, dig deeper. Less time at home practicing mistakes to be un-learned.
Like this idea of and . small groups are perfect for this! https://t.co/r5CUzXzhXA
A2: Gives you more time to help students understand and utilize the instruction; allows for differeniation
flipping reaches students and provides motivation to others
. Good answer!!!! :-D I'm a fan of in-class flip. Solves lack of devices/internet at home.
We've done a couple of flipped PD sessions in the last year or 2 - a lot better - no time wasted!
A2 Flipping allows you to give Ss prior knowledge and then they ask higher level questions during discussions
Wasted time for adults is the worst!
A2 Gives more time for reinforcement & application facilitated by Ts
so much better than listening to someone drone on! I wish more PD sessions were flipped!
A3 twice in 10 years have I taught the same grade level consecutively. Hard to plan for flipping when it's one day at a time
This IS the future of PD! Don't waste teachers time! https://t.co/n9bckKtJPA
We've done a couple of flipped PD sessions in the last year or 2 - a lot better - no time wasted!
Tell me more about do you tie gamification into this as well? https://t.co/zh8cuwjpJ5
flipping reaches students and provides motivation to others
talk more abt the motivation piece
A2 (cont) Flipping helps to reach & apply knowledge and makes learning visible and assessable.
technology such as can help make flipping easier
Amen! Purposeful PD is a passion for me.
A2: As a means for modifications and to differentiate for students!
some Ss need that motivation such as to help drive the learning
Me too, and you are on my list now! SpEd Coach?? You just became a resource for me! https://t.co/swbZ5ZFnGN
Amen! Purposeful PD is a passion for me.
faculty meetings could be flipped! (if Ts would watch videos....)
A2 Student driven learning - let them do the work - they will thank you for it! ?
OMG, Yes! If you do it once, Ts won't let you go back; it works too well! https://t.co/i32i4QGDcC
faculty meetings could be flipped! (if Ts would watch videos....)
It's great to see more teachers using this year! Great product
That's where the badges could come in. Purposeful competition!
A2 - Maximize time for Ss to engage with material!
A3: Guaranteeing Ss take care of business in a timely fashion & are ready for application!
A3: Tech resources of Ss, up front prep time (this is made up for later), and getting Ss, Admins, and Parents to understand
I've had most success flipping w my lower-level Ss. They dont want to be controlled/behavior managed. Autonomy!
Love it! Having a hard time getting T's to use it w/ G.Classroom push. Makes me sad.
A3 Concerns are lack of Technology at school and home.
A3 Tech & digital citizenship issues , prior knowledge, engagement , low ICT integration at school .
A3 - Access to devices and procedures for those without.
A3. Not all kids have devices or parent support at home.
I flip in chunks of 5 day learning cycles: New material on Tues, work Wed-Thurs, Fri= Review, Mon= Assessment
Sounds like is a key factor in
I still have students without devices, internet access. I don't have means to provide for take home measures.
That's how our flipped geometry class does it. A little bit harder with bio - more info = longer videos
would in-class flip solve lack at home? Assessing available tech in school is 1st step to start. hard to flip w/o
Interesting that most of us of have the same concerns for question 3!
i always give 2 days minim for tech based assignments. Ss can work in school comp labs during studyhall & aftr schl
In class flip is great, but traditional flip (can you even say that) frees even more class time to serve the students.
YES!!!!! Imagine a world where equity wasn't an issue!!!!! Oh the things students & teachers could do! https://t.co/nwVFcgnJTs
Interesting that most of us of have the same concerns for question 3!
Great strategies!!!! https://t.co/H7IxzMsPTj
There is where most of my flips took place via stations learn, discuss, apply method.
I just used word "traditional" to describe a form of Flipped Learning.
A4: Break it up into chunks that can be "digested" more easily - stay away from LONG lecture videos!
A4 A project based on student voice & choice & different planned learning stations as alternatives with peer scaffolding .
Hi ! I am Margie Miller from Lebanon, PA. I teach K-5 gifted and I sort of flip my classroom, but want to learn more!
A4: Try this- Take existing lesson plan. Cut the homework section and paste it into class time section. What wouldn't work?
I recommend that shorter videos are more effective--less than 9 mins (commercial break) & supplement w resources
A4: Use screencastify ext. & test out a short tutorial. Share it out & do a form.assess at the beg. of class/PD to quiz.
A4 Find great resources such and build from there
A4: Pick a lesson you know really well to start with. Keep the video short! Don't redo it if you make mistakes!
A4. First of all, get on Edmodo if you aren't yet. Edmodo makes flipping easy!!
although w all the netflix binging people now do, attention spans should improve!
I decided to use to revolutionize my lit circles!
Agreed! My goal for honors/AP level HS is no more than 10 min
EXCELLENT strategies!!!! I also use to embed Qs in my videos. https://t.co/s768FFsMA1
A4: Use screencastify ext. & test out a short tutorial. Share it out & do a form.assess at the beg. of class/PD to quiz.
works great for students to respond to questions/prompts in a way you can hear and see.
Music to my ears! Tell me more https://t.co/KfJub00b1j
A4 A project based on student voice & choice & different planned learning stations as alternatives with peer scaffolding .
A4 Anyone try flipping their back to school night??? I flipped my class expectations, Ss & Parents watched at home 2 weeks prior
So much better! PPT's can get old.
We flipped New Student Orientation years ago!
Tell us more!!!!! I'm all ears!!!!
A2: Gives more time for experimenting and PBL. Ss are on YouTube, why not try to develop something to link to their interests?
Another excellent strategy! record videos on the stuff you want to stop saying _repeatedly_ https://t.co/SSCWWVaOAR
A4: Pick a lesson you know really well to start with. Keep the video short! Don't redo it if you make mistakes!

THAT IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
add some great review content such as to your digital resources,
I actually pay for ThingLink. Love it for PD's too! Even better than a PPT or Slides presentation.
Love Thinglink! https://t.co/kAo6Lg6xn4
I actually pay for ThingLink. Love it for PD's too! Even better than a PPT or Slides presentation.
A5 flipped parts of my plans when a Sub comes Ss know what to do & I can follow along on from my remote location
I don't use Podcasts. What's the easiest way to listen?
A5: provides the quick and easy to use "vehicle" to carry the content and resources along the flipped highway.
A5. Kids can watch a video AND discuss it with each other. Sit down, have a white wine, and plan an awesome student led lesson
A5: is a great platform for sharing content, both inside & outside the classroom
I like apps like, ,, ,, , , & that allow embeds.
SO SMART!!!! https://t.co/U847zmKua9
A5 flipped parts of my plans when a Sub comes Ss know what to do & I can follow along on from my remote location
A5 It's helping us by showcasing Spotlight products , flipping training & promoting supportive & inspiring global interactions .
Shameless plug coming- A colleague of mine and I have an EdTech podcast- Today's Tech Coach https://t.co/d3KbMDLZhc
is my hub. All things start in Edmodo & radiate out from there
No more "lost days" or "busy work" when you are out of the classroom when you use https://t.co/9oSSQTXix6
SO SMART!!!! https://t.co/U847zmKua9
A5 flipped parts of my plans when a Sub comes Ss know what to do & I can follow along on from my remote location
also add some fun with and and
A6: Sophia, websites (Google, Weebly, etc), Google classroom
But is the best!
A6: of course, screencastify, , G.Slides, I use for all my PD's for T's to access resources & pres.
A5: HSTRY is an interactive timeline that I've seen even math teachers use!
not consistently but yes. Great strategy
I keep meaning to try it out. I need it for myself!
A6: VoiceThread, ThingLink, GAFE, OneNote, Screencastify, for resource lists, for app collections
add some fun with and and
I plan on also using to flip my gifted classroom this year! I love how you can add questions to the videos! Genius!
A7: Follow the topic If it's not there yet, it will be after tonight.
A6 Curation , peer evaluation , BPs as mentor praxis & an inner passion for lifelong learning with prospective reflection
we're big Google Classroom school too They both have strengths. I use both & think mult. Platforms=good.
A6 is fun for Ss & lets those that can't read participate as well
A7: Quick, someone start a group- "Flipped Off Teachers" (Oh no he didn't!)
I also love to create flipping vidoes for Ss
A7 to connect on you can follow topics to find new connections
A7: Just search the topic "flipped class" or "flipping" on - should help you find lots of connections!
A7 Edmodo teach ups is a great way to connect
. I have to go but this was fun. Thank you both for moderating!!
I agree! I really like the Facebook feel of Edmodo & I have rights for badges for T's. I'll keep trying.
A7 By following topics , tagging Spotlight uploads, creating/joining groups and capturing the flipping essence of posts .
Q8: Who are flipped learning educators to follow on Twitter? Recommendations? Include subject area/grade https://t.co/NboYZdsvCD
and got to follow theses educators
try putting your colleagues in an edmodo group for team mtgs/other PD. They may like it after trying it
A8: ELA flippers OMG SO MANY MORE!
A8: Well, Jason Bretzmann wrote the book on flipping your classroom. I mean, literally, wrote the book.
