#games4ed discussions cover ways in which gaming can be used in education. Games mirror the way the human mind was designed to learn. They motivate players to take risks and actions, persevere through failures, set and achieve increasingly difficult goals, and devote attention, time, and effort to acquiring knowledge and skills. All this while the game is tracking the player’s actions and assessing the player’s achievements and skills. Isn’t this what we want from education?
Hi #Masterychat! I'm Scott, an ELA educator @MCS4Kids. I serve on a site and district committee for #edtech and hope to make some positive waves with my roll out of #gamification & #games4ed! Could not live without @Schoology-- it is my source for everything!
I'm "Holidays". Been saving at least one klitchy thing from each of the ones we celebrate at school, and plan to wear them all. I think the kids will have a blast with that #games4ed

A2: Just had an idea. A few yrs ago, I started Spring Shakeup with some new idea every day, like new room arrangement or door prizes. Maybe I should revive this as Halloween Hijinx... #games4ed

In what ways could you and/or students play new roles in the classroom? Or what are effective role-playing activities you currently use?

A2: I started the Serial podcast with my college comp students this week for their argument/research paper. They are HOOKED on the mystery!
But I still want to do a little something more for my Brit Lit students...wondering if I can weave in Dracula theme somehow... #games4ed
A3) Just had students dress up as 3 kings from The Battle of Hastings to be interviewed. They got waay into their characters thanks to the costumes. #games4ed

I think there's so much truth in them getting into character. Even in our theater practices, the performances are better when we make the students "suit up" rather than stay in their street clothes #games4ed
A3: I often have my students write stories from the perspective of things like atoms, rocks, molecules of water (depending on what we are studying). They get bonus points in they dress up and perform them. #games4ed

We turned our entire unit on The Scarlet Letter into a living, breathing three week RPG I call #TextQuest. You’re welcome to take a look at the templates and adapt it to your needs! https://t.co/8TyYZKcLRF#games4ed
A4: This isn't one I go overboard on, but someone mentioned using LED candles earlier...that could be great on Wednesday! I might have to get some spooky sounds, too, now that @MrRoughton has inspired me! #games4ed
