Please join us for a weekly conversation about design thinking in K12 education. We will have a variety of moderators with a wide range and depth of design thinking experiences. Each week, we will connect the dots to the design thinking methodology and how it can and will play a bigger role in today’s K12 educational arena.
A1 Wow . . fantastic Q . . . powerful questions make me pause and reflect before I answer -- they often come from ppl w/n my closest circles #dtk12chat
A2 Just today, had a student push back HARD against our #fidgets design challenge bc he struggles w attn & said, "these don't help!" couldn't see past his own needs #dtk12chat
A3 It's okay to ask questions without answers; it's okay to ask challenging Qs; sometimes we need to fill in the blanks w softballs -- that's ok esp when in service of bigger, more powerful questions #dtk12chat
A4 Ask users: 1) Tell me about a time when you felt _______ 2) Describe a time when you felt the opposite of _______ 3) What feels good/troubling/interesting about the solution designed? #dtk12chat
it helps me to remember that #designthinking is more mindset than process; I apply DT as a lens & use & modify process frameworks as suit my Ss needs #dtk12chat also #DEEPdt
Yes! and not every #designthinking experience needs to be a huge unit; one class: do a lil flashlab or design sprint; use DT tools in reading comprehension & literacy work #dtk12chat
YEs! Love this! I've done similar in my HS ELA classes; great way to work it; also, consider HMW use ____ science concept to solve ____ problems in our community or school? #dtk12chat
I find that works best when I follow a non-linear path: get my Ss experimenting & ideating, setting aside for research & empathy work; then finding links #dtk12chat
HUGE! How did it go? I'm always surprised by the students for whom it's difficult & those for whom #empathy interviews come naturally #dtk12chat#introvertscomeouttoplay
