#NBCTchatter exists to promote accomplished teaching practices based on the research of the National Board of Professional Teaching standards and the experience of NBCTs. Our goal is to highlight our teacher leaders and give them a platform to talk about the practices, strategies, and plans that help prepare our students for life beyond our classrooms – becoming college and career ready.
I'm @CTEchEd ... we are the proud host of this monthly chat ... we exist to help teachers improve their craft, to learn about new topics important to education, and to provide opportunities for collegial discussion! Welcome to #NBCTchatter
A1: I help students understand the "why" by connecting the learning to real world examples or uses. Also by explicitly stating the "why" before each lesson with student involvement. #NBCTchatter
Love the “explicit” connections ... too often we are not clear ... Hattie (Visible Literacy) says that Teacher Clarity has a high positive impact on student learning #NBCTchatter
A2: Connecting student learning to other subjects helps students to understand the importance of their learning. The repetition of learning in other subjects helps to solidify retention of learning. #NBCTchatter
A2 Transfer of Learning evidences deep learning ... when sts transfer their skills to other subjects then they are prepared for global literacy & leadership IMO #NBCTchatter
When students can transfer learning to new situations they are applying that knowledge. We are preparing students for careers that do not exist yet!

I have been connecting my learning targets to careers my students are interested in. I have found some good ideas at Carreer Exploration Activities for Kids https://t.co/TEvHQI38ic
Bureau of Labor Statistics Career Exploration for K-12 https://t.co/vyJJu3QLQq
Final steps! As we wrap up our time together, don't forget to Reflect on your learning and SHARE what you think. If you apply something to your classroom, tag us so we can be excited in our learning together. :) #NBCTchatter
Another great idea from our moderator ... I think we are also preparing for next month’s chat on resources! How else do you connect students to the world? ☺️ #NBCTchatter
