Welcome to #ATchat Tonight we will recap #ATIA19 Introduce yourself and let us know if you attended # ATAI9 and how many times have you attended the conference. Give a shout-out if this was your first time!
Hey now #ATchat Looking forward to hearing about everyone's #ATIA19 experience. I have been lucky enough to go to almost every ATIA conf (maybe missed 3-4!)
Leslie from LI, NY. I unfortunately did not attend #ATIA19 but I have attended twice before! Looking forward to hearing everyone’s take away from the conference! #atchat
Since I was unable to attend #ATIA19 due to a family emergency, I am really looking forward to learning from everyone tonight. I had serious FOMO! #ATchat
Hi #ATchat I am Kelli, Specialist of ASD, SLD, Chrome Accessibility, AEM & AT Integration in Indiana. I attended #ATIA19 & I think it was my 5th year. It was the BEST one ever thus far.
A lot of great energy this year, meaningful conversations & networking. Met TONS of Twitter friends face to face #ATchat & learned so much on many levels 4 immediate implementation in the classroom to presentation tools.
Lots of active great conversations with tons of participation... like, the Friday 4:30PM session I presented with @mpress77 was about 70 people!!! #ATchat
#atchat hey all. I’m Emily and I’m a #pst from Grove City College! I wasn’t at ATAI9 haha but I’m here to learn from all the bright educators from this chat!
Met @FranklyBrian for the first time and am already a better person/educator for it. #ATIA19 was the year of collaboration & growth & positivity & tons of shared laughter. #ATchat

Ditto on that one, Shaun. Presented in a way that left you open on how to integrate new ideas in your own way & not guided their way. #ATchat Not to mention, @mmatp is Cool Hand Luke & @attipscast being the guy u could carry around in ur pocket and just live happily.

Did anyone see any info on using iPads and text-to-speech? I am struggling to figure out how to make the speech rate the same across different iPads. I am struggling to set the speed scale the same. #ATchat ATIA19
A-1 Loved Tabi Jones-Wohleber session on her MASTER PAL training series. She cautioned against taking the idea of modeling literally. Modeling isn’t what WE want the child to say. We should be engaging with them by commenting, describing, expanding, etc. #ATchat

Following you again @Shaun_SLP We did a walk about answering questions in regard to accessibility, access on paper & generated a LOT of great convos & learning #ATchat@iplante@KarenJan

I made a last-minute week before decision to spring for it out of my pocket, and I am really really glad that I did! My bank account, not so glad! But really worth it in the long run. #ATchat
A2: I was lucky enough to moderate the Transition Town Hall panel discussion with @JanetLPeters , Sayard Bass and Dr Ben Satterfield. Powerful discussion>> check out the special episode of my podcast for the recording https://t.co/d1UwHqQGyS#ATchat

A1: there were a couple sessions where AAC “modeling” as a prompting strategy was clearly differentiated from “aided language input” as a teaching strategy & I’ve been trying to use that since I’ve returned. #ATchat
A1: There were SO many great sessions to choose from! @RachelH872 spoke to me and I used many of the resources! Created a social story too https://t.co/RxxMnTIUkB#atchat
A1: but if I had to pick 1 session- Erin Sheldon & Amanda Hartmann presented on information they got from interviews with text-based AAC users & it was fantastic information. #ATchat
I got to spend time talking about one of my favorite topics-behavior as communication and how we can learn from that to help support these students. It was a blast. Great participation and so many great ideas from the people attending! #atchat
Love. It.
This one's a keeper. Great use of Book Creator, one of my favorite tools for creation, accessibility, alternative way to demonstrate learning, etc, etc.!

I am working with grades 3-6 so I am trying to set it to something in their range. The extremes of that scale(tortoise and hare) are really different from each other. Ideally, I want them to start at the same rate. #atia19#atchat
This was brilliant.
It wasn't at all what I was expecting but so good... It also gives me an excuse to say my weird t-shirts are #aac when my wife complains! #atchat
I’ll share out my presentation when I am back to my laptop. Hehehe. Sitting in the car in a driveway while my daughter and our foreign exchange student try in formal dresses at a friend’s house #atchat
A2: I presented a session "I Repeat, It's not Cheating" packed room & response has & still is overwhelming. #ATIA19#ATchat I'm considering repeating it next year. So much fun w/passionate educators.
A2... presented again w/partner in crime @mpress77 Tips for AT professionals, really just things that have made our lives easier. https://t.co/y9YDk5EQkM and I think we both learned we tried to pack too much into it & either need to say less or go back to a 90 min session #ATchat

Q3: Did you attend a session that exists outside your area of practice? Was this a valuable experience for you? What did you learn that you can apply to your practice? #ATchat
My fingers always seem to fall Bob and I can never get the same setting on that scale. Any tricks for making sure that the bar is exactly the same point on each iPad? #atchat#atia19
How awesome that U R exploring Ss reading with their ears! I’d ask why you’d like them to all read w their ears at the same rate. Most people don’t read with their eyes at this same rate. Plus, most Ss have never had explicit instruction reading w their ears. #atchat
I agree, it really is customized for each student. I let them set the rate, depending on which app/tool/device they are using. It's empowering when they can set it at the rate that works for them. And over time, they often increase the wpm rate. #ATchat
Personally I don’t feel the same rate for all is appropriate. If Ss have experience reading with their ears don’t slow them down, but if they don’t they will need some training.
Big News: #ATchat just went international! On 3/20/19
@DangerOT
will lead a UK chat at 8pm GMT &
@attipscast will lead a US chat at 8pm Eastern. Same topic - AAC. Very exciting #atia19
A-2 Did a session on accessible STEAM ideas, kits and examples with @snortondarr and one on @DeborahSchwind1 ‘s and my Adapted Repurposed Tool (ART) kits with a follow up Make & Take during Maker Day #ATchat

A3: We don’t do a lot with chrome books so anything in that is learning for me, we’re about to jump that route for our kids on hospital homebound for the most part so that was really great to set the stage on what I need to go back and work with IT on. #ATchat
A3: I attended @tjoshaughnessy session on case study with reading pens. He was honest about positives & negatives and he helped me turn mine into a "lefty" pen. #ATchat It was interesting feedback from Ss.
A2: I presented with a colleague on an SLP/ABA/AAC collaboration. We had a great group of people which assured us we were not alone in figuring out how to navigate the working relationships. #ATchat
I agree with all of that but I want to start it at something that is reasonable for the grade level and then the students can adjust it after that. Are you recommending that whatever the default setting is I should leave that alone and they should move it from there? #atchat
#atchat a3) I attended a talk on accessibility in gaming. It was great to learn about all the options being developed. It got me thinking of how I can incorporate more gaming with my Ss. Always looking for that excuse!
I teach 6-8, & I like teaching kids to adjust the speed. When I model TTS, I show them how sometimes I'm reading something difficult & want to slow it down. Other times, it's hard to pay attention if it's too slow, so I speed it up. Trying to get them to self-monitor! #atchat

A3: I attended the Penn State session on AT at the college level. Since I work K-12 it was interesting to learn more about what colleges are doing. Also with a 19 and 17 year old, it is good to know as a parent what is out there #atchat
A2; co presented at AT Town Hall with Fran, Tara, and Maureen where we bippity poppity booed our way to all answers using the #innovatorscomoass#atchat
I show students how to adjust the rate of speed and let them adjust it to what works for them. It's highly individualized. i never set it for them but help them identify what works. #ATchat

A2(a) also co-presented with @dr_kgood on our telepresence internship for AT. Wound up merging our session with folks who had a telepresence robot. Spontaneous and fun decision! #atchat
A2: I presented on how to use Augmented Reality as an accommodation for students. We each created our own AR. Shared the periodic table of AR and VR. #atchat
Yes. I think time should be dedicated to Ss exploring settings and making adjustments. There is research that supports this too. Most people are less likely to use something if someone else sets everything according to their own preferences. #atchat

So much fun. I switch adapted the pool noodle artbot with Therese Wilkomm’s directions for a solder free battery interrupter based on a suggestion from one of last year’s Maker Day participants. It takes a village! #ATChat

A5: successfully added a bunch of extensions to our district approved whitelist. Making the list was easy——getting them to approve them all less so. But as of today that happened! #ATchat
Talked about these with my AAC class last week! One of them had listened to the Talking with Tech podcast on this & summarized for us. Students were concerned the agreements were too general...& then remembered how hard it can be to agree. #ATchat

A4: I attended @LindsaySpears77@CherylKiburz@EricTownsley session on their journey toward AEM. WOW. I've already shared their ideas with one our AEM District teams in Indiana. They have a lot of awesome going on #ATchat
Listen & Subscribe to my podcast Inclusive Technology 4 All: https://t.co/LRVGQu0UdB Last two episodes have had #ATIA19 reflections from many #atchat regulars. Thx to everyone for participating
A5- I came back to a pile of things that had to be addressed from while I was gone and two snow days, so I’ll be honest that I haven’t had time to even finish processing the pile of things I want to explore! #atchat
A4: talked about the @CarterSchoolBPS Cognitively Demanding Task Matrix with some colleagues yesterday, actually. Our clients mostly do not have the same level of physical impairments but we’re still finding it useful as a framework. #ATchat
To just not stop talking about accessibility within ur districts, use the language needed 4 change & keep sharing date. Growth mindset is often the barrier & they remain positive & active for Ss access for ALL of their Ss & have created a sustainable system. #ATchat

Hey Folks, sorry to miss the chat… Kid duties and everything else, I will look at the question later and can’t wait to see what everyone shared! #ATchat
I bawled my eyes out because it’s always been something we’ve envisioned. It should just be commonplace- someday it will be- surely it will be. #ATChat
A4) gosh there have been so many: Google keep, storyboard that, green screen app, the list goes on! There hasn't been a day since I returned from #ATIA19 where I haven't put multiple things learned into practice! #atchat
As I head back to work after #ATIA19, my heart is filled with gratitude for an amazing week filled with powerful connections and lessons. We are ALL in this TOGETHER on a collective mission to improve lives. Keep going and keep the joy in the work! @Spedtechmia3@RobinBCBA
Thank you! We talk about students needing a growth mindset. Do you find sometimes we need teachers to have a growth mindset as well? Does their fixed mindset inhibit inclusion and accessibility? #ATchat

Q5- googles spoon: https://t.co/90s8Eh8b5T. I am working with a lady who has had to give up eating ice cream due to a dementia that is affective motor control instead of memory. This is a game changer. Unfortunately the price tag is another conversation...#atchat
Did you know that they released just recently PDF versions of all of their pages so you can print off and make your own notebook? We’ve use this to create a custom notebook for a couple of our kids with a variety of different page layouts. lovemy #rocketbook#ATchat
I do feel this at times. Fixed mindset when it comes 2 how someone else learns is a pretty bold place to stand. We have so much control over how we can do things in our best way but when it comes 2 learning, som think there IS a script on how 2 access text. HUGE barrier #ATchat

#atchat my favorite has been when I joined a student during novel study. His teacher was having him storyboards by hand but due to his fine motor challenges he nor anybody else could make them out. I introduced him to storyboard that and he was able to build a board and recount
Q6: Did you participate in the Poster Sessions? Do you find this type of session valuable and do you have ideas about other types of “non traditional” concurrent sessions? #ATchat

Wish you were there! Not sure how helpful this will be, but here’s the handout: https://t.co/GIZxjm3TuG It’s basically just a list of the apps that I discussed and demoed live. There were lots of great questions from the room, so I didn’t even get to all of them. #ATchat
Now- that’s the BOMB diggity! Access for all=Inclusion for all. Having a convo tomorrow with a teacher on a similar issue. Thanks for the inspiration! #ATChat
Q7: Did you attend any of the #ATIA19 extended activities like @edcampaccessint and the 2nd Annual Maker Day? How do activities like these deepen your learning experience ? #ATchat
I find myself using the pin tab almost more than the one tab extension now then I know what I want to keep long-term and what I just opened up long enough to most likely drop into @wakelet#ATchat

A7: Both of these events were AMAZING! I find these to be the most powerful learning opportunities. Sharing, conversation, inspiration Check out the #edcampXs19 hashtag for all our tweets from edcamp #ATchat
A7- I loved the edcamp. Didn’t make it do the maker day because I had to get back to meet my foreign exchange student but have big plans for next year! #atchat
Yes @ksuding It was kind of a game changer for our students that really need more than one kind of page to make it work for them + we are able to customize the layout and organization instead of it just being 1 big notebook we can put it in a binder that has tabs & such. #ATchat

@wernedat So many options. I still use Diigo most often but I love the look of Wakelet. Maybe that's another chat topic - what tools do you use for your own professional productivity? #ATchat
A6: I like #ATIA19 poster sessions. I missed day 2 but had some great conversations on day 1. (Hard to describe posters in the visual description box on twitter so please DM if you want more info.) #ATchat
Do you use the panic button extension? Really helps when my boss walks in. (KIDDING) but everyone shld know that it exists https://t.co/NRUiqaoKkl#ATchat
Final thought: Are they any upcoming PD events / conferences that you are excited about? Why? If there is a hashtag, share it so we can all follow along #atchat
Agreed. They are both one of my favorite parts of ATIA. Part of me wishes that they weren't both at the end of the conference so that we were a) a little exhausted and b) we didn't lose people to all the other fun in Orlando. #ATchat
A7: I loved EdCamp as always. One of the highlights of every ATIA for me. Sadly only had a few minutes at Maker Day. I need to prioritize next year! #ATchat
It is amazing! You can schedule them to come back later in the day, or on the weekend or in a month. You never have to worry about forgetting a tab or resource. #atchat
Yeah that was part of our presentation...I’ve started to have those same problems. I had to map out for myself the pluses and minuses of each and when to use what. That’s also a very personal what works best for you thing. But I love the ease and visual format of @wakelet#ATchat
In reply to

I have it just so I could see how it is used. Once you hit the panic button, the tabs you have open then close and then the ones you want others to THINK u are working on pop up! #ATchat
