Coaches go follow my boy who is about to graduate and jump into the profession @CoachD_Quinn and he’s also the brother of big time tweeter @CoachQuinn19#hogfbchat
Hey there! Putting together plans for PA’s Spring Football in May, and getting my summer install schedule together has got me stoked for some #hogfbchat! David Miller. Head Football Coach James Buchanan Rockets! Mercersburg, PA!
Coaches go follow my boy who is about to graduate and jump into the profession @CoachD_Quinn and he’s also the brother of big time tweeter @CoachQuinn19#hogfbchat
A1: Set a tone where everyone is accountable. EVERYONE. I make sure that I don't stop working and caring about my guys, so I can lead by example. Lead from the front! #hogfbchat
A1: we have OL dinners each week, t-shirts for guys, steaks and cakes at end of year for current and alumni players. Let’s young guys see who came before them. Also have our own “creeds and rules.” #hogfbchat
A1: first you have to live it. If you expect you guys to act, work a certain way, you have to. I love to build work ethic by being a part of workouts. 2nd, any chance you get, talk about it. Oline is unlike anything, remind them how important they are. #hogfbchat
a1 #hogfbchat Numerous ways to accomplish this. Make some time to bond outside of football, set & enforce high expectations from the start, watch film together and be honest with each other, celebrate success & address issues as needed
A1: @jcjohnson40 the best S&C coach in the country does a great job instilling the character and culture message. Coaching staff is there for support and reinforcement. #hogfbchat
A1) I stress to my whole team how it all starts in the trenches, they may get their names in the paper for scoring the points but it couldn’t happen without them! If the QB goes down it better be my OL helping him up, RB gets tackled I want my OL helping him up #hogfbchat
A1: It starts with YOU! Establish a sense of pride and make feel they’re a part of an elite group. They are. You’re a selfless team player. Not everyone can do that. Take pride in your craft. Also, build the brotherhood. The closest they are, the better they function #hogfbchat
A1) I have weekly meetings with my guys. I pick a different topic each week and have meaningful dialogue with them. A lot of our conversations come from our chats! I’m the OL coach at the Jr. High as well, so I start them early and preach the same thing 7-12. #hogfbchat
Good evening to the best coaches in the game! State Championship winning program where Eagles Doug Pederson was coaching 9 years ago is looking to hire an OL coach/social studies teacher. Shreveport, LA. We prefer somrone in AR, TX, or LA. DM if you want more info. #Hogfbchat
A1: I think you set the culture of the OL by having high standards for work ethic that never waiver. I think you maintain that by having genuine conversations off the field, and never taking negatives off the field. On the field is business, don’t let it be personal #hogfbchat
A1: the acronym I use in my name has a special meaning to the guys(not Five Inside Stick Together). I tell them what it stands for, and I’m in the process of developing a manual for them. I also let them name the unit. The past two years we were Dirty Bulk. #hogfbchat
A1: an important thing for us is to make our OL understand just how important hey are to the overall success of the team. No stats and no cred but w/o us no one is successful. We have the hardest & most important job. #hogfbchat
Q1. Consistency with everything we do. How we lift. How we practice. How we eat. How we treat others. Expectations and bottom lines are laid out day 1 in the building. #HOGFBCHAT
Teach the mushroom philosophy and get kids to buy into what they’re doing. Has to be a program wide buy in to the importance or it doesn’t work. #hogfbchat
A1: Before you have a culture, you need to establish a reputation. Me personally I want my oline to establish a reputation of playing physical and hard every snap. In order to establish this culture I first need to model what that means to the players #hogfbchat
A1. Couple ways. Weekly OL dinner, ice cream bars for each rushing TD, position group t-shirts, yearly “motto”. Feel like it creates a great culture in our group #hogfbchat
A1: constant communication and various things in the offseason. Stay tuned for this Saturday when we get out in the community and work together #HogFBChat
A1 Most OL kids are their own breed. The majority of them eat lunch together, hang out and are constantly around each other. As an OL coach you have to give them opportunities to get away from football and become brothers. Madden tourn, pizza buffet, things like that #hogfbchat
A1) Love them and make sure they know you care about them beyond just as an athlete. Constantly reinforce the special bond b/w OL. Do things as a group & communicate outside football. #hogfbchat
A1- We’re fam. We do lineman lunches, bbq’s, bowling, have a sledgehammer we award, constant focus on getting better. For character I always strive to demonstrate. We also have indiv meetings where we discuss these goals. Plus we have style. #BeastinDownTheBlock#hogfbchat
@CoachDingus@CoachShiffman set clear expectation of how we will be. We will get downfield every play to get our back up. We protect our dudes. We will be technicians with a nasty streak and play relentless #hogfbchat
A1. We compete in everything. Including academics. It is my goal that all of my boys take just as much pride in their grades and respect from the community as they do dominating d-lines. #hogfbchat
A1: if you're fortunate enough to participate in off-season workouts, try to get Hogs to work out at the same time and then pair them together. Accountability and competition all in one #hogfbchat
A1. We use @coachcharac7er program for our whole program and school on that front. As far as culture our guys know we pride ourselves on running the ball and they are the most important part of our offense. The heart and soul of our prgram. #hogfbchat
A1b: I believe my first answer helps establish character as well, but character is something you also have to show them. Be the example. Character also reveals itself through adversity, that can be created at practice and through summer workouts #hogfbchat
I give my guys ownership to a lot of what we do. At the end of summer camp I ask them all to give the identity of our unit. They come back and let me know and we as a unit vote on the years identity. We break on this until the end of the season! They take pride in it. #hogfbchat
A1)The OLine has to be the tightest group. A lot of times it built easier off the field. Food, down time, learn together on the board and with video. It isn’t easy work, character development is part of everyday in the trenches. #hogfbchat
Explain your expectations and hold them to it. My goal is to have a culture of ownership and accountability (with a dash or two of nasty sprinkled in there). Show the kids you practice what you preach #hogfbchat
I was new to my school this year and tried to work real hard with the freshmen. Set the tone early when they're young and establish that culture from the get-go. Show the JV and freshmen you care about them as much as Varsity and they'll buy in for the long run #hogfbchat
A1 playing OL is a gift. I think it's important to teach your players how important being an offensive linemen is. Have them take pride in what they do. Also lead by example. Create a lot of energy for them to build off of #hogfbchat
A1) you have to build TRUST. That only happens over time. You HAVE to get to know who they are & let them know who you are. If they trust you then everything will fall into place. The OL will be the group everyone follows b/c they will play for each other & that shows. #hogfbchat
A1: Lead by example. Be the guy you want them to be. Have character and cultivate that culture of hard work and loyalty to that group of brothers. I go as far to lift with my guys, Allow then to push me to be better everyday. #hogfbchat
A1: I also think it’s important to establish and culture that fits the identity of your team. To build character You challenge players both physically, mentally, and academically. If one player fails the whole team fails. #hogfbchat
A1) Teach the mushroom philosophy and get kids to buy into what they’re doing. Has to be a program wide buy in to the importance or it doesn’t work. #hogfbchat
A1. Culture starts with the coach. The values and ethics you instill into your players start with your expectations. The players feed off of the coaches energy and will buy in at the rate you yourself buy in. Re-enforcing those values daily and making them become habit.#hogfbchat
Great question. Me and @GATALIFESTYLE54 did a clinic talk on this. Gotta establish your identity. Something your kids believe in. We have a Twitter now @alpha_raiders to help promote the brand. I’d need 4 tweets to fully answer this. DM if y’all need help with this. #hogfbchat
A1: We talk about the standard we need to play at, and the expectations it will take to play at the standard. You’ve got to coach’em tough and love’em tough. Let them know what is expected and never lower the expectation. #hogfbchat
A1: It’s amazing to see OL bond together. It’s an attitude. They have each other’s backs. Build it through constant conversation and support of them. Meals, meetings, 9-12 grades, all of the guys become 1 unit. Special stuff. The best. #hogfbchat
A1 - They are the heartbeat of the team. We will go as far as they take us. Want to get your names in the paper? Get us in the EZ. Get the RB 2K yards. Make the TEAM special and they become special #hogfbchat
A1: Set the expectations before the season starts and hold kids accountable. We have team wide core values that define who we are (set by our players). I'm considering using weekly practice and game goals like @dlsfootball17 this year. #hogfbchat
A1 cont. It all starts with the staff. We model the behavior and they will follow. We set the expectation. We are what we allow. Excellence is the expectation. #Hogfbchat
A1: a) Lots of truth-talking about OL play & skill development b) OL nights (w/ food), c) Spring OL/DL competitions sched. w/ 7on7, d) team competitions that emph. size/strength, not just quickness, agility, and d) OL 1st rule in our program re: anything w/ a line #hogfbchat
A1. A few years ago I got IHOP to donate 10 free pancake breakfast meals for season. OL with best grade from Friday's game won the meal. Entire OL was encouraged to go accompany winner. They are breaking bread together and celebrating together. Cultivate a brotherhood. #hogfbchat
A1-cont’d. We have our own unit name #NHSStampede that makes us unique, our own special unique ‘breaks’ and even use some as rewards. This is all part of culture that’s built. #hogfbchat
A1: Our character is determined through our work ethic. We constantly embrace the Hog mentality. We break bread during season for breakfast at least once a week. We watch practice together. We are going to an escape room next month as a group. It’s the little things. #hogfbchat
A1: relationships built with honesty and openness, lead by example and know your guys outside of football, show them you as to what you want them to also do/be #hogfbchat
Part 2: It’s a bunch of guys that need to come together and become brothers... brothers don’t always see eye to eye, but no one gets to mess with our brothers. We try to do things outside of football to build the relationship even stronger. #hogfbchat
A1: starts with conversations with upperclassmen letting them know what you expect from them and the group, then subtle reminders of opportunities to lead, group conversations where you reinforce the culture
Favorite moment: 2016 SR OL teaching younger OL’s at camp
#hogfbchat
A1: Nothing works until you yourself buy into it! Culture in biology is “maintaining conditions to yield growth”. As the coach you got to set up all the right conditions, but HAVE to be the HEAT, anything you do will work if they can feed off your energy! #hogfbchat
A1: weather permitting the OL is spending Saturday morning finishing clearing a path for the new dog trail at the local SPCA. Teamwork, community, character and a workout #HogFBChat
A1: The more successful the team has the more the OL sacrifices. It’s taking those lessons as you watch film or scrimmage. Teaching the nature of football is sacrifice so the team can be successful. Cheering for teammates in their successes because they are yours too. #hogfbchat
A1) A lot is placed on our o lines shoulders as their the backbone of what we do. Our fantastic OL coach puts it best on accountability from day one (video hand gesture below) when he Says our lines rolls “5 together as one...but it only takes one to *screw* that up” #hogfbchat
A1 cont. I like to tell the linemen that their age says they are boys, but their position makes them men! Take pride in being the only position with “Man” in it! #hogfbchat
A1: It starts with the relationship you build with the OL as people. Find out what motivates them so they will run through a brick wall for you. Or drive the DL through a brick wall. #mtzmade#hogfbchat
A1. I like doing things that challenge all members of the group. It gets the kids to back each other up, push each other and create a level of trust. Usually some sort of competition or conditioning activity. #hogfbchat
It’s jokes, making fun of each other, all of that stuff, stay a part of it through modeling it without thinking with our coaching staff. Best example to follow. #hogfbchat
A1: In addition to constant feedback - I give daily validation on what my dudes do. "There's honor in protecting people!" is the mindset I coach. Lots of 'sharp end of the stick' analogies too! #hogfbchat
A2. Mike Leach’s Swing Your Sword. Quote: “Always be more concerned with your character rather than your reputation. Character is who you are. Reputation is what people think of you.” @Coach_Leach#hogfbchat
A2: wouldn’t say I have a single resource but best piece of advice I ever got was “building a better football player is what you’re paid to do..building a better person is what you need to do” true statement...you’re building the community you live in #HogFBChat
A2: Tremendoes read! My favorite quote is what I live my whole life by: “No risk it. No biscuit. Your never gonna hit a big play unless you try one. You can’t live scared” #hogfbchat
A2. No bible per say, but as for quotes. “A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price #hogfbchat
A2: I tend to draw a lot of my coaching maxims from my old coaches Fred Gill 2:12 "well boys, the hay is in the barn. We've done all we can, now it's up to you " #hogfbchat
A2: Don’t really have a coaching “bible” but have many of words of wisdom from veteran coaches. Learned a long time ago from @Coach_Vial “Control the controllable”
#hogfbchat
Q2: Legacy: chapter 1 on “sweeping the shed” never be too big to do the small things that need to be done and Chop Wood, Carry Water. Too many Chapters to name. #hogfbchat
A2 I'll read just about anything Coach Leach writes. Loved his Swing Your Sword book. If anyone has some good suggestions on other books I'd love to hear them! #hogfbchat
A2) Not my “bible” but I really took to heart Joe Pa’s quote in his book “Once you cross that blue line (to step on the practice field) you need to only concentrate on the field and nothing else from the day before or after.” #hogfbchat
A1 I've never been a part of a team worth anything that didn't have the OL and DL be the heartbeat. Skill guys are too fickle for me, so I think it's important that you invest time in finding the right players AND coaches to do it and build that foxhole mentality #hogfbchat
Point A, B, and C...all about relationships. Help them build confidence and tools to let them be successful. Celebrate with them when they are successful! #hogfbchat
A2: I don't have one in particular, I've read a few different coaching books as well as leadership books. But Proverbs 27:17 is something I truly believe in whether it's on the field or here in our brotherhood community. We make ourselves better. #hogfbchat
A2) Odd one here. Harvey Penick’s “Little Red Book” yes, it’s a golf book, but coaching is coaching and he was an all time great. He talked about word choice, choosing words without a negative connotation. Grip down on the club instead of choking down. #hogfbchat
A2: oh, man. I’ve read a few books and have taken a things from each. I love @OLineWorld65 for teaching technique and body mechanics. Above The Line by Urban Meyer, Win Forever by Pete Carroll, The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, and currently Perform by Paul Alexander. #hogfbchat
A2: My things is I read “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu every Friday. Favorite quote is “Regard your soldiers as your children, and they will follow you into the deepest valleys; look on them as your own beloved sons, and they will stand by you even unto death” #hogfbchat
A2) This is the foundation of our program, the one that I think gets underlooked the most is demand excellence. We need more players stepping up and demanding excellence from each other in all facets, especially when they are going against each other in practice. #hogfbchat
A2 not sure if this applies or not. “you either Coach it to happen or you allow it to happen”...
Either way you’re responsible for the results
#hogfbchat
A2 super tough question. Read a lot of good ones over the years. John Wooden’s little blue book has been a mainstay. “How you do the small things is how you do all things” . #hogfbchat
A2: I would say a lot of what I use stems from what I have learned in college, and from my fellow coaches. I love to coach servant leadership any chance I get. To be a great oline, you have to be willing to serve first! #hogfbchat
A2. Wins, Losses, and Life Lessons by Lou Holtz. The whole thing is outstanding. Not a fan of the Irish, but I quote Lou Holtz a lot. The old Dr. Lou segments on ESPN were great! #hogfbchat
A2 There are several books, Jon Gruden, Bear Bryant, the Football Coaching Bible. All favorites. Don Shula wrote a book called the Winning Edge after the Perfect Season in 1972. (If you can find it) #hogfbchat
Don’t necessarily have a “bible” but I’m huge on anything @OLineWorld65 puts out. Especially his thoughts on Toughness, highlighted in the newest @RunThePower Podcast. #notanadlol#ConfidenceIsToughness As far as quotes, “Do Not Demand What You Cannot Take By Force.” #Hogfbchat
A2: my coaching “bible” is countless Clinic notebooks where I’ve written down things said by people much smarter than me. Most recent favorite quote
“If I have to coach effort and attitude, it’s an ugly day”
Robbie Caldwell
#hogfbchat
A2: in terms of my coaching philosophy that comes from many places. A book that profoundly affected me was Joe Ehrmann’s Inside Out Coaching. @JoeEhrmann76#hogfbchat
A2—I don’t have a coaching bible since coaching is a life-long learning experience. Wooden had some amazing words, but I feel platforms like this give all coaches learning opportunities and the ability to perfect their craft. #hogfbchat
A2: Above the Line
Favorite quote:
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.”
You gotta love your QB’s and RB’s, the OL unit must protect them. Give everything for them.
#hogfbchat
A2) don’t have one. I am very much looking forward to @OLineWorld65’s new one. I’ve also really enjoyed “The Junction Boys” and “When The Gamw Stands Still.” #hogfbchat
A2: Above The Line Urban Meyer. The idea of 10-80-10.
Top 10% - Elite
80% - Good
Bottom 10% -below the line.
In order to be an elite team you must foster the top ten and the top ten need to bring as many of the 80% to the elite level. #hogfbchat
A2cont: philosophy-wise is “you have two arms as a coach, one to smack a kid in the helmet when he does wrong, the other to bring him in and hug him when he does well or needs you.” That was one of my mentors, Bill Wienke (former DC at @NCC_Athletics) #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat
A2: don’t have a coaching “bible” I find new motivation every day.. I just recently read and was a big fan of Think Like a Warrior by @DarrinDonnelly there’s some really good stuff in there #hogfbchat
Absolutely love this! Playing the line should feel like an honor to the guys. They are the heart and sole of your team. It all starts and ends up front. If you block great or refuse to get blocked, good things will happen. #Hogfbchat
A1 playing OL is a gift. I think it's important to teach your players how important being an offensive linemen is. Have them take pride in what they do. Also lead by example. Create a lot of energy for them to build off of #hogfbchat
A2: Tough question-I don’t know that I can name just one. I pull from so many and use so many quotes. I’m big on any book that discusses cultivating culture. Always tell my guys that perception is reality. #hogfbchat
A2 We all want to be leaders. In order to lead you have to know who you really are. Study yourself. Improve yourself and don’t settle.
There is no better example of leadership than Christ.
Even if you are post Christian pre christian or atheist. He’s the standard.
#hogfbchat
A2) Urban Meyer “Above The Line” E+R=O. I live it everyday and I try to get my guys to as well. Have to be positive...usually your outcome is positive if your reaction is positive #hogfbchat
A2. Don't have a coaching bible but my new mantra for the OL is going to be(strictly football wise) DBAP! I also love this for the OL
https://t.co/GQjJzO1dIs#hogfbchat
A2: If you ever have a chance to connect with the former Wisconsin Lutheran College defensive coordinator named Ben Murphy, you will get an absolute wealth of knowledge. I made it through college ball and started coaching because of him #hogfbchathttps://t.co/0SrvQ4sqNl
A2b: I did love Coach Saban’s book and one of the best quotes from it is
“Some of the great leaders in history were not adored, but respected. My advice to leaders—stop trying to please everyone and do what you believe is best.”
#hogfbchat
A2: Came across a passage this past weekend that summed it up for me The Bible Luke 19:1-10, another great acronym is HOGS Honor Our Great Strength, the biggest thing I go back to is to try to be a constant learner and see new ways to get the guys to meet expectations #hogfbchat
The Art of War. Not my "bible" but one I go back to often. "Plan for what it is difficult while it is easy, do what is great while it is small." #hogfbchat
A2:2 this one comes from Rev Johnnie Barnes, first national Royal Rangers Commander (now director) "a man never stands as tall as when he stoops to help a boy" #HOGFBCHAT
A2: Urban Meyers "Above the Line" is my personal favorite. Too many quotes and lessons throughout that book to pick a favorite.. something our program lives by is NO BCD. #hogfbchat
A2: I have a few quotes that i stick tight with. “Strength in Unity, Unity in Faith.” “It’s the little things,” but most of my coaching bible is not printed. It’s long conversations with people who helped me get on the grass. People i have worked with along the way. #hogfbchat
A2: The Tony Dungy books helped me develop a bit of a quiet intensity, especially on gamedays. It helps me stay solution-oriented and use my energy to focus on what I can control. It also keeps players from getting too emotional. #hogfbchat
A1: explain that OL is all about sacrifice. So is life. We deal with delayed gratification & toil away in anonymity & as a OL you made the best choice ever. You WILL be a great husband, father, & friend because you care more about the common good than personal gain #hogfbchat
Another great book down this year! Foundation of E+R=O and great advice to keep your life grounded and control your Response! Thanks @TBrianKight@TimothyKight for the recommendation! @Focus3_Team
A3: I just smoked some darn good pork butt and Mac and cheese this weekend. Had to do something to break the Iowa winter that won’t go away! Also love to golf! #hogfbchat
A3: Still have to learn, I'm ashamed I don't have one lol. Anyone willing to help with that is much appreciated. And I honestly like hanging out with my wife and going to different places. But come early August our first little one will rule us lol #hogfbchat
A2: Quote fiend. Love them all. Wooden. “...3 simple rules...” Lombardi “...Fired with enthusiasm...” Russ Grimm “...move a man against his will...” #hogfbchat
A2 bonus: also from Above the Line
I’m going to put this on my wall, on a shirt, on my notebook, on everything to serve as a reminder to me and everyone else
#hogfbchat
A3) I don’t have any BBQ recipes (although I know some great places to get some) but my main hobbies outside football are mainly video games, comic books, and card/board games w/ friends #hogfbchat
A3: Being from KC, BBQ is sacred. I don’t have a best recipe. My favorite hobby outside of football is working with Underprivileged youth in my community as well as tutoring students who are struggling academically #hogfbchat
A2 Every word of Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy and Above the Line by Urban Meyer. Also really like the Five Smooth Stones philosophy by Bronco Mendenhall in Running Into The Wind. #hogfbchat
My bible has been @ApopkaFootball and Rick Darlington....his approach to unbalanced single wing football inspires me on a daily basis. Hat on hat...down hill...the anti-spread...you can either be better or you can be different #hogfbchat
A3: my best BBQ recipe is to go grab some from Gameday BBQ. I can’t cook that stuff haha. I play guitar which has been a good hobby for me. Been playing for years, very therapeutic. #hogfbchat
A3: we northerners leave the BBQ to the experts. Outside of ball I chase around a 3 year old and 9 month old so hobby time is short. Still love to lift weights and I have a small obsession w/ lawn care. (If it ever stops snowing here) #hogfbchat
A3. I can seasons and grill one hell of a steak! Charcoal all year long! Also like to spend time outside fishing or hunting. Definitely of the Rural American disposition #hogfbchat
A2: Win Forever and Above the Line are 2 of my favorites as far as books. Conscious Coaching by Brett Bartholomew is what I am reading now and it is great #hogfbchat
A3: hanging with my dog, craft beer so I love the local breweries and I do BBQ on the back deck. Once was into powerlifting and I do a ton of fishing when it’s warm. Have a recipe for just about anything. Oh and I love tattoos & art and have plenty of both #hogfbchat
A3: can’t tell you the recipe. My father-in-law taught me how to grill steaks that beat out the steaks from Gibson’s Steakhouse, and its a secret. For R&R I play guitar, work on my truck, I hunt, I watch football, but MOST IMPORTANTLY I relax with family. #hogfbchat
My buddies usually do the Q’ing, I just hangout and drink lol. I have great friends. As far as free time, shooting, archery, fishing, hanging out with @Warhogs56@CoachOrtizOL@ChrisWard6275 lol. Also I’m an ordained minister so I’ll marry my friends from time to time. #Hogfbchat
A3: My best BBQ recipe is going to "checkered pig" restaurant in Martinsville,VA! Can't beat it... one of my favorite hobbies is beating kids at school 1v1 or in a game of 21 that think they are D1 bball players #hogfbchat
I just eat at @HeimBBQ in Fort Worth. It's an OL coach paradise. Other activities: I play rugby which keeps me in shape, have a dog I walk every morning, and am a reservist in the Army (not so much a hobby but it keeps me busy) #hogfbchat
A3: I run the @SmokieDingusBBQ when I do have time. I used to do competition BBQ but it got expensive. I usually placed in the top 15 in contests. I make my own sauce. Something that @MrsKDingus and I enjoy doing. Also I love being outdoors! #hogfbchat
A3. Sweet onion and garlic seasoning from Ms. French Sweet Baby Rays Sweet Golden Mustard sauce on chicken thighs/legs 2 1/2 hours 225 with Applewood in the smoker. BAM! #hogfbchat
A3) I have to be better about this, It is hard to shut off my brain with how can we improve as a football program. It’s not a hobby but I do smoke a damn good bbq pork and when I’m not working I’m with the family #hogfbchat
A3. No recipe just slap some Sweet Baby Rays on it! As far as R&R besides watching film or a good football movie/documentary, I like to get some fishing in or play some golf and tennis. #hogfbchat
BBQ Ribs! A blend of spices, sweet baby rays bbq sauce, a little honey and brown sugar on top to carmelize them! I like to golf, grill, and fish. Anything outside with my 3 boys! #hogfbchat
A2: I don't have one - BUT I would call myself a LB - @OLineWorld65 disciple. I found him a few years ago on Youtube - got hooked. Hard to say which is favorite, but most of my lineman can recite the 3 tenets of passpro! ⚒️🐗⚒️ #hogfbchat
A3: I like to hang out/cook with family and friends, go to church, dabble in some music, and/or watch TV and movies. Helps clear my head. #hogfbchat
PS: looking for good pork seasoning “Grill in, Grill out”. Smoked ribs yesterday with it and turned out great.
A3: Kosher salt and coarse ground pepper on prime brisket, smoke for 12-14 hours with hickory. Yo. Would have done one this week for Spring Break if we were staying in town.
#hogfbchat
A3: Fishing, dirt track racing and camping. We smoke a ton of meat camping. As far as a recipe, I got a killer mustard/vinegar based sauce recipe I put on out pulled pork. Also, love smoking various things. Mac n cheese, hard boiled eggs, bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers #hogfbchat
A3. Cont. Not many hobbies spend time with family. My players won't decide what nursing home to put me in someday buy my kids will. So better give them some good memories while I can.... #hogfbchat
A3) don’t have one. Hobbies: spend time with the wife and kids. Hang with the fellas, @ChrisWard6275@SenorBlazer@CoachOrtizOL and have a few adult beverages. Tweet. Watch movies and tv. Read. #hogfbchat
In reply to
@CoachDingus, @ChrisWard6275, @SenorBlazer, @CoachOrtizOL
A3: Outside of football #1 is being family man, I have 2 young girls I get to be a dad to, I have a love for helping those in need, founded a school food pantry about 6 years ago and love getting the opportunity to love on kids even when they don’t seem lovable #hogfbchat
No big hobbies. Just hanging with friends and getting away. Also it’s nice during the season that I work at a bar on Saturday nights. Gets me away from thinking about ball and also keeps me from spending money. #hogfbchat
A3- We call it stolen chicken. It’s a recipe written down by my wife’s grandmother from 1955. She noticed the recipe was written on the cash register at a local fair and sat and wrote down the recipe 1 by 1 until she got it all. Delicious! What is R&R? #hogfbchat
A3: I love putting anything on the grill!!! Also, I have coached sports I never played growing up. This year it's Boy's Tennis! It helps me appreciate what I know about football, and strive to learn other sports like how I know football!#hogfbchat
A3: Love making ribs! They are usually good. Brisket is on point! Just salt and Pepper and garlic powder. Wrap in butcher paper. I usually smoke cream cheese with bacon and jalapeño pieces for the teachers at work! #hogfbchat that’s how you get them on your side. Lol
A3: I used to tournament bass fish and play a decent rnd of golf. Coaching OLine took center stage the last 10 yrs. I am starting to play golf again now that my boys are off to college. I also had my eye on a used Ranger - but then did my taxes!! #MeNoCash#GovTheft#hogfbchat
A1: @DukeCoachLeo got me infatuated with our #OLPride Challenge and the leaders are getting better at building the brotherhood amongst the group. Points system, drafting, it has it all #hogfbchat
A3: Well most often I fire up the Q for Carne Asada, I need to expand my repertoire. I like to golf, used to hunt when I lived in WA. Play a little guitar, try to get in shape. I enjoy just sitting and reading when its nice and quiet. #hogfbchat
A3. Smoked Brisket. 50/50 salt coarse black pepper over oak or pecan. Wrap in butcher paper at 160 internal temp. Cook until internal temp registers 203. Rest 2 hr, eat it all. #hogfbchat
A3 just soaking in all these recipes! I need to get back to America to try all of these!! As for as r&r, it’s all about binge watching TV shows and movies, or shopping #hogfbchat
A4: As a casual fan, I love a pro style with a great TE and slot receiver... as an OL coach, hard to pass up a good Georgia Tech or Cal Poly game when they are on and running triple option to perfection #hogfbchat
I live watching teams that dominate up front and run the ball down people’s throats. No better feeling as a player/coach so I love to watch it as a fan. #hogfbchat
A4: I always like watching the less common offenses such as the Dead T or Split back Veer. Especially fun when other teams can't line up to them #hogfbchat
A4: that’s a tough choice. I really like spread teams that utilize a lot of different personnel, like Oklahoma. Being from the south I love watching SEC football. As an H.Backs/TE’s coach I like to see how those positions are being utilized in college. #hogfbchat
A4: Love watching no huddle spread teams. I can watch those NCAA teams all day every day
A few years back I also liked watching Stanford run Power over and over and over again.
#hogfbchat
A4) I love the spread offense but man there is just something special about watching the Wing-T go to work! It’s a rare occasion but as a guy who grew up in a small town I love getting to watch small town schools play some smash mouth football #hogfbchat
A4: depends. Love watching a pounding OL team like Wisconsin and Stanford, but love watching intricate, fast-paced spread teams as well. If your OL is good, I’m in. #hogfbchat
A4: I drool in AWWW when I see Iowa and Wisconsin line up in the “I” formation with that thing called a fullback and completely take over a game #hogfbchat
Growing up it was watching Wisconsin just maul people every week. Now it’s easier for me to appreciate the different styles you’ll see. On saturdays I can switch back and forth from a triple option team to an air raid team to a pro style team #hogfbchat
A4: Love seeing how teams use motion and Slot/H backs to their advantage. Doesn’t matter if it’s double wing, spread, pro style. Fun to see that creativity to gain numbers in action. #hogfbchat
A4: I love it all! Just enjoy all the intricacies of the different offenses from GTech & Navy to USC to OU/Auburn to the Eagles & Patriots. Especially Patriots, love how they just find mismatch after mismatch and exploit the holy hell out of it. #Hogfbchat
A3: My sauce is a family recipe that found fortunately. It is tomato based sweet with the right amount of kick. @agilitychutes swears by it. I will have to make some and send some! #hogfbchat
A4. I love the spread read option game. I am a big fan of Rich Rodriguez. Loved watching those WVU teams in the mid 2000’s and his Arizona teams from a few years back. #hogfbchat
A4: also love watching rugby. Teams can morph from a pound ahead team to a razzle-dazzle team in moments. Would love an offense that could do that. #hogfbchat
A3: as a fan, gimme that speed tempo so I can get 150+ snaps a game. As a coach, I'll take those Stanford/ BIg 10 games where they have 6+ hands down on offense and run right at you #hogfbchat
A4) Really enjoyed when Baylor/Oregon exploded on the scene with their spread offenses - it’s more of a norm now but was interesting to see the game transform #hogfbchat
A4: I like to watch most offenses. There are too many good ones to pick one, love the power spread, fun watching air raid, fun watching split back veer, fun watching Flexbone, just score baby. I like watching defenses playing catch up #hogfbchat
A4: Spread/Air Raid. Grew up watching Joe Tiller’s teams at Purdue and have always been a fan of seeing how many philosophies there are in Spread Football. I was luck to play in the offense in college and learn it even more when I began coaching. #OLWhoLikesPassing#hogfbchat
A4. Love me some triple option from top notch programs. Love watching a team get gashed up and down the field. Esp the service academies when they paly big time D's. #hogfbchat
A4: I love watching teams with good running QBs-doesn’t have to be spread zone read concept just love ways teams figure out how to run the QB. #hogfbchat
A4) Always fun to watch Texas Tech throw the ball all over the field. LSU’s offense with a motion/shift every down is fun to watch as a coach as well #hogfbchat
A4: I have a couple. Love watching Gus Malzahn at Auburn, especially when he's mixing tempos. Ohio State smash mouth spread.. Clemson.. also enjoy watching flexbone teams (ga tech, navy, Air Force) #hogfbchat
A4. This year I really liked watching Oklahoma and Central Florida. When WSU is clicking and the ball is whipping around to all parts of the field it's a beautiful game to watch. Up tempo air raid or run and shoot I suppose. If they establish rhythm its wonderful. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A4 absolutely love the science of Johnson and Niumatalolo's offenses. Nothing beats Dr. Tom's O though. Seeing Milt's boys do their thing leaves incredulous at their consistency every time.
Single Wing...there is nothing more pure or truthful that you will ever witness...FB Classicism...Shoulder Blocking...power and deception...the way and the light #HogFbChat
A4) We’ve been running he Power T for the past three years and I have fallen in love. If I had a nickel for every person that has said “coach, we don’t know who has the ball” I’d be sponsoring the First Annual #HOGFBCHAT Golf Outing! #hogfbchat
A4: I am an offensive line coach from the Midwest... call me crazy but I love watching Big 12 football aggressive offense lighting up the scoreboard.. until they play a dominate D but that’s a different story #hogfbchat
A4) not really a system but I’m a fan of teams that have great execution. A team that blocks 2 the whistle and has 11 hats that fly 2 the ball and u can see the team loves playing the game is a thing of beauty and I can watch that all day long regardless of the system #hogfbchat
A4: Smashmouth football! I used to love watching @HuskerFBNation and their lineman upfront! On both side of the ball! They were mean, they were rough and the epitomized intestinal fortitude! No Gas All Grit! #GroundAndPound#42ISO#MoveThoseChains#hogfbchat
HSSocialMedia : RT Coach_Roy_: The Art of War. Not my "bible" but one I go back to often. "Plan for what it is difficult while it is easy, do what is great while it is small." #hogfbchat
People hate watching games with me. I rock the film, watch OL technique, and I go “holy s***! Did you see that block?!” And run the play back three times, and I rarely converse with others. I don’t do Super Bowl parties. My brother @GrantSabo comes over, that’s it. #hogfbchat
In reply to
@Warhogs56, @CoachShiffman, @GrantSabo
A4: I enjoy and appreciate it all. Been in a spread the last 5 years. Program I’m heading to now is straight triple. Offenses are like women. All shapes, sizes, and styles but can be beautiful in their own way #hogfbchat

@CoachShiffman if you have any coaches on #Hogfbchat that run RPO’s that would be interested in sharing some plays and calls that would be greatly appreciated! I’m going to be utilizing RPO’s this season and could trade some sport psych material in exchange if anyone wants to.
A4: I really enjoy the younger Air Raid guys (Kingsbury, Riley, Holgorsen). Love how they have become more balanced and utilize an H-Back. Also been a longtime fan of Bobby Petrino's system, especially the Lamar Jackson era. #hogfbchat
If anybody has any topics or questions they would like discussed please don’t hesitate to send them to @CoachDingus or myself and we will get them on the chat #Hogfbchat
More than willing to share the Competition Season Manual that @GTCoachFlores alluded to. Used it during off-season/summer conditioning while at the high school level. Developed leadership, accountability, and player-led teams. Send your email in a DM. #hogfbchat
Big shout out to our awesome sponsor @GameStrat_

#hogfbchat anyone attending the Nebraska Spring coaches clinic this weekend? Will be at Coach Austin's 4:30 session on level 3, as well as the one to follow downstairs at Hawks. I'll try to remember to tweet out pictures and info.
Q4: Honestly I would mind watching a offensive slugfest of field goals and field position whopping score of 6-3 no TDs at all just field goals!!! #hogfbchat
A3) bird bombs= chicken thighs with pickled jalapeño inside wrapped in bacon and topped with cheese. Armadillo egg= jalapeño stuffed with cream cheese and breakfast all around the jalapeño and of@course bacon around that. Family time and the pool go great with them #Hogfbchat
A4 - Pretty sure @CoachDingus already knows my answer... Ant team that lines up in the I, power I, diamond I, and any other variation of the I formation and simply runs the ball down the other team’s throat. #makesmehappy#hogfbchat
