so glad you could join us for
-
2nd grade teacher classdojo mentor pumped to get kids doing more than expected
-
First question coming up I am soooo excited guys! Thank you all for joining in.
-
-
Me, too!! Haven't done a in awhile! Been learning so much about PBL this year, so I'm excited for tonight!
-
it's ok so glad you could join with the little one!
-
-
-
A1 projects, driving questions, cross curricular, planning!
-
So much collaboration goes into PBL!
-
A1 deep thinking, fun, collaboration, inclusiveness
-
A1: student products, various grouping, shared vision
-
-
A1 - I think of kids getting their hands dirty and working together!
-
Miss Quick from Iowa here!
-
A1 Projects, prepping, and planning!
-
-
A1: never knowing if it is project (or problem!) based learning. Our county can't make their minds! π
-
A1 building a plane in the classroom
-
A1 sometimes I hear the "groans" from the ones that don't like group work
-
A1. Projects. Diving deeper into topics. Collaboration.
-
Nobody can! https://t.co/xGTs7OYNMA
-
-
A1: never knowing if it is project (or problem!) based learning. Our county can't make their minds! π
-
A1- communication, curiosity, organization, problem-solving skills!
-
-
A1: student engagement, learning though experience and creation
-
-
They are both very similar with same outcomes.
-
A!: excitement cause I know has my back with the PBL life! Also, they're the bomb dot com
-
-
A1: I imagine st. centered/led projects centered on a common thematic unit
-
A2 we are just getting started in it but my students are really enjoying all the aspects to it.
-
I think I prefer problem. I like the idea of students thinking of the bigger picture.
-
A2 We've done a few. They like PBL, but sometimes get frustrated-end up in the dip!
-
-
I have found 3rd graders really get into pbl! I have had huge successes at my school!
-
A2 It's a great springboard for writing! Real world issues = authentic responses.
-
Ha ha! A2 just arriving after spending the day in New Tech training!
-
A1: curiosity, investigation, teamwork
-
-
A2. I'm doing PBL for my PDP (licensing). Done several projects this year, and have more in the pipeline for future years.
-
A2 - When I taught 7th grade science most lessons were -- ends up being a lot more fun for everyone involved!
-
Haven't tried any PBL yet but am leaning and can't wait to try with my Ss
-
A2: building a life sized minecraft block and obstacle course in the classroom
-
A2: I'm a PBL newbie. I used to think it wasn't something you did in
-
I have seen PBL projects turn into amazing writing pieces this year! Especially the opinion/persuasive ones!
-
mine love it! Some don't like the collaboration aspect though.
-
A2 - PBL also made it easier for me to differentiate for my students -- something that was quite difficult for me to figure out!
-
I would love to hear what you are doing! Sounds awesome!
-
A2:Centered on Life Science because of high student interest, Sts create freely, make project unique https://t.co/0SusbQhGPU
-
A2 did pbl with 2nd/6th this year! They went farther than I could ever have hoped
-
hopefully tonight you will leave with some resources to get started!
-
A1: Learning by doing, making, messing, struggling, persevering, and proudly presenting a learning artifact.
-
-
Next question coming up in 1 minute!
-
It's especially hard for new teachers to differentiate!
-
this sounds amazing! I bet they LOVED it!
-
-
-
-
A2: building global connections and action based projects with Ss and the - research, presenting, adopting
-
A3 Time, availability of materials, Ss attitude that day... lol
-
A3 not enough time in the day
-
A3 we are departmentalized - which isn't limiting but makes it challenging
-
A3 As a tech coach, I think my teachers would say time was their biggest issue.
-
A3: limited student interest, prior knowledge of making projects
-
A3 time! Our schedule is so blocky and cut up that once they get into a groove it's time for PE, lunch, or to swap classes!
-
I think a little of both. Not sure colleges really focus on teaching the "how to" aspect.
-
A3: time (a teacher's worst enemy!) And finding ways to tie it into the content instead of making it something "extra" for June
-
attitudes are definitely important!
-
-
A3. Time and very little tech at my school. Most projects I do end up being BYODevice - which can be a struggle in itself.
-
A3 - Time and resources! Although I'm a dreamer, I had to build realistic lessons that worked in my classroom
-
A3: Funding, time, acceptance. But where there's a will there's a way.
-
Long time, no ! What's going on??
-
-
A2- HS geometry with at-risk students. Able to make curriculum more relevant to real world
-
A2: haven't done PBL yet but hoping to
-
A3: time is always the biggest issue, and I think finding a way to grade efficiently is always a challenge
-
A3 Not so much a limit but more of a hindrance. Standardized Tests
-
-
have a about a million and one things going on
-
A4 It's long & drawn out, it's a fad
-
A3- Lack of knowledge and resources. Debbie from Miami here.
-
-
A3: Time, resources and continual student interest
-
A4- That it is a fad, where as its been around for generations and will be around for many more. Much needed for career/life ready
-
A4 That it doesn't "fit" with the standards...
-
-
A4: Misconceptions that they are hard, elaborate, costly, only for GT kids
-
-
A3- no limits! It's required as we are a "PBL" school. Only my mind limits me. 1st year "PBL" just learning
-
-
A3 That it is too hard or too complicated
-
It requires a big budget and lots of planning.
-
A4 too long, Ts knocking it before they try it!
-
A4 time consuming "when will we get on to the next content"
-
I've found pbl fits with SO MANY standards! One project can cover a ton of standards.
-
YES! There is this persistent feeling that PBL is only for the Advanced Academic kids. Not true!!
-
That one gets me. It's not only for GT kids! I have had huge success this year with my low Ss too! Just need to diff.
-
Kevin here joining late a teaching Principal
-
A4: It's too hard - requires too many resources, $, and planning hours.
-
YESS!!! It does! And in the end all ends up making sense to the students! Painting the whole pic
-
I agree that I want it to be meaningful
-
A4 - Biggest misconception in my school was that we didn't have the resources -- however, a little creativity can go a long way!
-
-
A3 Ts relinquishing some of the control to students. So powerful for students, but hard for Ts
-
My school is heading towards PBL but we have limited direction/guidance.
-
That is hard for teachers!
-
oh the usual - talking to my producers, planning my trip to and hanging with my peeps
-
Yes, Not all projects have to be the same format, medium, type, etc. Differentiation is the key!
-
A5 some Qs are def level 1, but the deeper the Ss go, the deeper they go into DOK. They naturally progress deeper
-
Inspires Ss to become life long learners. Encourages collaboration and creativity.
-
A5 I think PBL prob addresses most if not all of DOK! Really hitting on the deepest levels.
-
A5: gives ample opportunity to use and practice those skills as students are creating
-
A5: all about Collaboration, communication, creativity. My K's are learning how to collaborate on smaller projects
-
-
A5 I think PBL prob addresses most if not all of DOK! Really hitting on the deepest levels.
-
A5: Students must use critical thinking skills to solve real world problems
-
A5- It not only hits on DOK and 21st century skills but also builds good life habits: creativity, social awareness, data analysis,
-
A5 DOK--Creating a project, evaluating/analyzing info 21st Skills--basic PC skills and others dep on product
-
A5: It's everything Sts. need to compete in an ever changing society. It challenges Sts. to perform similar to the work force.
-
So true!!! These are so important but can often be left behind due to test readiness, but can be taught together!
-
-
A6- Yes, I know they can bc I have been doing this all year with my teachers (I am a tech coach)! Once I took the fear away!
-
A6 absolutely! Math, science, reading, technology, the list is endless. Not to mention their social skills.
-
A6 Our Social Studies standards are ridiculous, so, no. But w/ all other subjects, yes!!
-
It's hard for teachers to let go sometimes and let the kids come up with solutions and ideas. But Ss need time collaborate.
-
A6: Absolutely! I have three sections of Science, and they can all be met!
-
A6 yes in my school in upper grades Spa. We've met our standards & gone beyond
-
-
A6: yes! Even w/the littles they can show their knowledge with writing/drawing/technology. Great opportunity for oral language too
-
and it builds social skills
-
A6: I think for the most part yes. Some get a little harder like math
-
A6 Yes, and it "means" more to the students than doing a worksheet. They are more likely to remember the process.
-
A6: yes, PBL addresses all content areas as well as 21 century skills
-
I did a March Madness PBL that had math involved! The kids were all over it!
-
A6 - With the proper coaching and planning, it can be done. We need a PBL coach!!!
-
Reliable measures of technology is being read.
-
A5 changes the perspective of where and how assessment takes place. Begin with higher order first. Present a problem/project
-
I think it depends on the concept. If real world is obvious math is easy. If it's a concept to build gets harder
-
-
A6: Without question it can be done.
-
A4 that it's too time consuming and teacher prep heavy. Because it's too disjointed and isolated
-
A7 Realize that it doesn't have to be done all in one day!
-
A7 collaborate! Collaborate amongst subjects and come up with a project that can be done together.
-
great advice! most of my PBL lessons lasted 3-5 days!
-
A6. Depending on the number of standards within a reasonable time frame, Yes. If PBL is truly integrated across the Curriculum
-
A6: all about scheduling and organization. Sometimes you have to give up things you hold to close to!
-
Stop Collaborate & listen, PBL is not a new invention! ;-) Sorry I had to go there!
-
hahah too good. you just had to!
-
A7 - Dream big, but start small. Incorporate both old and new methods. Technology and art projects, etc... The best of both worlds
-
A7 spread it out with time. A project can take days
-
nice!!! love the long projects at the end of the year, too -- teaches them focus and perseverance!!
-
A7 identify commonalities, relate to real world and current events or themes. It is doable
-
Next question coming up in 2 minutes! Keep it coming! Yall are too good!
-
Hi . Joe, math & STEM coach, checking in late.
-
-
Yes! I have done some that take all week one hour at a time, or some that I am in and out in 45 minutes!
-
A7: has pre-made PBL lessons called Do Now! For easy integration into your daily routine
-
Hey hey! :) Happy Wednesday!
-
-
Ooo yes those lessons are fab! Great suggestion!
-
-
A7 Don't feel like you have 2 create your own PBL. The wheel's already been created; you don't have 2 do everything from scratch!
-
A8 is fantastic for great lessons!
-
-
I never recreate the wheel! Too frustrating! lol https://t.co/uozMAIyxll
-
-

-
A8- has some amazing resources!
-
Definitely canβt miss being w the crew!
-
A8: We, also, have a PBL summer institute in WI that is a two day PD.
-
the actual Ss. I ask them " how would you like to do..."
-
Definitely a wonderful resource!
-
Um...can I count you as my PBL resource?
-
A8- A great place to start guys! Amazing lessons all done for you with all you need to just run with it! https://t.co/6DhsChrlTq
-
You might as well! I sure do! ;-)
-
-
-
You guys should all follow here on twitter free stuff tweeted out all the time!
-
Thanks for sharing all these great resources! Can't wait to get started !
-
A8: Asking other teachers is a great way to start. Get together a collaborative team who will brainstorm ideas.
-
Okay guys last question coming up...
-
If you have done a good job unpacking them (or have the FCPS POS) and have clear expectations with rubric. https://t.co/MfdGav5TEM
-
A9- My best tips are doing overwhelm yourself. Start small, start with premade, ease the students into it. The first one is tough.
-
A9-'don't get frustrated or give up! It's easy to get frustrated and tired of a project but just keep engaging the kids!
-
Best thing about today's chat is sitting back and being a learner.... And just reading what others post...
-
-
A9- Don't overwhelm yourself,go with premade, Start small and let your Ss practice. The 1st project may be rough, They get better
-
A9: don't give up if things don't go perfect the first time. Learn from it and keep trying. Your S's will see that and try too
-
A9 Start easy & w/ high interest projects.
-
-
-
for sure! Don't feel pressured to jump head first into a long project!
-
A9 - Remember to have a growth mindset, both you and your students! Might not be smooth sailing at first... and that's okay!
-
A9: patience, willingness to try new things and letting students see that true success is trying again after you have failed
-
Perfect example of getting out of the dip! https://t.co/EVunloLP1b
-
-
A9 - Remember to have a growth mindset, both you and your students! Might not be smooth sailing at first... and that's okay!
-
A9: Start small, high interest, rubric, one content area at a time for little ones, work w/ other classes
-
A3 - Stay positive! Encourage Ss to keep trying and come up with new solutions and strategies. Never give up!
-
