Hello #HISDAdminChat I’m Maggy, AP @DoganElementary, this weekend was filled with education related activities, I’m actually teeeting from school! But... I did sleep a lot last night! 👏🏼 #TeamSleep#DontJudge
Eric Tingle, Regional Manager @teainfo. This weekend I attended my son's basketball game and went out to eat with the family. Had a blast! #HISDAdminChat
It’s Kristy from @CodwellES. I can honestly say this was a 7 day work week. Between the school and grad school, I’ve been one busy sista. #HISDAdminChat
My name is Sandra @Menxueiro and I’m the proud principal of #DoganNation

Greeting LeadPals!! I’m William Ealy from #DoganNation! I actually sit at home yesterday and rested. Didn’t pick up the computer nor venture down 59 to Liberty Rd! #HISDAdminChat

A1. Reach out to someone that I trust to get feedback and reflect on what isn't working. And at the same time get feedback from those who I feel I have failed. #HISDAdminChat
A1. I reach out for help. I realize that I cant do it all and I don't know it all. Trying to do it all leads to fatigue and failure. Lean on other leaders. #HISDAdminChat
A1: When I feel like I’m failing as a leader, I don’t see the effects of the plan. The implementation and monitoring falls through the cracks. #HISDAdminChat
A1 first I get upset and then I go to @BethYoungGarcia and let her know I might have failed at something. She hasn’t taught me to be less hard on myself. I am just now learning to let go, be vulnerable and learn from mistakes and move on. #hisdadminchat
A1: self reflect on the goal and the mission. I analyze if something can be done to right the ship. I also realize that sometimes I need to recharge if I am failing & might need to regroup. #HISDAdminChat
Look to those successful leaders for strategies whether through example or conversations. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Seek experienced advice. #hisdadminchat
A1: When I feel like I’m failing as a leader, I spend some quiet time reflecting, praying and talking it through with a friend. From there, I’m usually able to move forward intentionally with my passion reignited.#HISDAdminChat

A2. There has to be a balance here. Sometimes the learning is experiencing the mistakes, so that you know exactly how to avoid that mistake in the future. Telling people what to do works at times, but sometimes people have to learn for themselves. #HISDAdminChat
From a teacher/student perspective, I know that sometimes the learning is much more powerful when I let them fail. However, providing the support to help them recover and return stronger is key. #hisdadminchat
A2: tough question. Can I say a bit of both? Sometimes it depends on the stakes, but there is no way to avoid all the potholes and potholes are often instructive. #HISDAdminChat
A2: I think it’s important to be proactive and try to anticipate what struggles you know your teachers will have (the data tells that story). But you can never catch everything so it’s important to be understanding when they fail. #HISDAdminChat
A2. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. Encourage teachers to take risks, offer learning along the way. You'll prevent some miss steps but there is always a big net for when things don't work. Both things happen constantly. #HISDAdminChat
A2) Hope that Bellaire Ts would say that we allow them to fail forward. And I would also want them to know we're available for coaching ahead of time. I know I do that often. "Hey, I think I know what to do next, but I thought i would see what you think about..." #HISDAdminChat
A2: I have to evaluate who is about to fail. Some teachers learn from failure opportunities, whereas others fail and continue to sink in the hole! #KnowYourTeachers#HISDADminChat

A2: I feel it’s important to set the parameters and expectations for your team first but allow room for each of them to grow from mistakes. Coaching them through difficulties is key to ensure long term growth and success. #HISDAdminChat
A2 I try to coach them ahead of times. I see my teachers like I saw my students. I try to anticipate misconceptions and things they might need help with ahead of time. However, it is hard to anticipate everything and failure in inevitable. #HISDAdminChat
A2. We must create a culture where the feel comfortable enough to know it may not work the first time, but don't give up. #hisdadminchat#failforward#letlovelead
Q3: The end of the first grading cycle for Elementary Schools is nearly at an end. How do you build a healthy sense of urgency among your staff? #HISDAdminChat
I think we have to learn from our failures. We can't save them or ourselves from everything. However, when you learn that stove is hot, you don't touch it again, #hisdadminchat

For sure! We are held to high expectations but are supported to take risks and accomplish the learning in individual, creative ways. One of my favorite aspects of teaching at Bellaire! #freedom#hisdadminchat

I agree, there is so much grit involved with trying to grasp where you went wrong and how to make those connections to make it make sense. #HISDAdminChat
I think as long as there are students under our supervision there needs to be a healthy sense of urgency. I’m always working in finding the balance though! Encouraging yet maintaining high expectations. #HISDAdminChat
Q3: The end of the first grading cycle for Elementary Schools is nearly at an end. How do you build a healthy sense of urgency among your staff? #HISDAdminChat
I’m at a high school. So it’s always a sense of urgency 😊 (graduation, credits, etc.) Setting expectations and holding everyone accountable will make for a healthy environment because everyone knows what it is expected. (Be proactive) #HISDAdminChat
A3. In my current role, we are working on tracking data for each project and reflecting on the data during 1X1 meetings. Having conversations about data and setting weekly goals builds a sense of urgency. #HISDAdminChat

Q3: The end of the first grading cycle for Elementary Schools is nearly at an end. How do you build a healthy sense of urgency among your staff? #HISDAdminChat
A3 when you create a culture of effectiveness your staff knows that instructional time is precious and that every minute counts. Always keeping coaching conversations student-centered helps creating this sense of urgency. #hisdadminchat
A3) I think High School brings its own sense of urgency, or rather, intensity. However we are also dealing with young adults and so the need to really "tune in" with them is even more paramount. #HISDAdminChat
Q3: The end of the first grading cycle for Elementary Schools is nearly at an end. How do you build a healthy sense of urgency among your staff? #HISDAdminChat
A3: At this point, Ts should know their Ss AND be able to readily identify their strengths & weaknesses. I’d be looking for teachers to articulate how they’ve moved the needle for students or identify a plan of action for tier II & III students during a check in. #HISDADminChat
For HS, this is a long stretch where Ss lose motivation or get overwhelmed and tired. Spicing up or varying lesson plans or being extra vigilant of monitoring students’ progress is crucial midsemester. #hisdadminchat

Data is slippery. We must always be skeptical of data in that we make sure it's measuring what we think it is. Resist assumptions. Don't use data in isolation. #CorrelationIsNotCausation. #HISDAdminChat
A3: This is a constant struggle but I continue to focus on our end in mind. If they are constantly reminded of our year end goal, then the urgency starts back up. #HISDAdminChat
A3: Also, it’s important to set short term goals. Revisit where you are now in relation to the long term. It can never be put to the side. #HISDAdminChat
