#CFISDchat is a weekly chat run by Cypress-Fairbanks ISD educators and guest moderators. Join us for discussion on various education topics and grow your #PLN!
A1: We get to look at students individually and teach them accordingly. Using teacher led, student led and utilizing tech in the process. Creating ultimate learning environments and experiences. #CFISDChat#WeAreSalyards#SwashBengal
A1: Two benefits of blended learning I think are important are that it can be individualized based upon student need and allows students to take a leadership role in their own learning! #CFISDchat
A1: Increased engagement, more student buy in, differentiation, more small group time, decreased behaviors, and developing student independence and accountability!! #CFISDchat
A1: Meets kids where they are. Relevant and offers student choice! Also, exhibits reality of how they will perform outside of school and the opportunities they’ll have #CFISDchat
A1: #CFISDchat It increases student engagement, collaboration, flexibility, & allows the teacher to confer. It creates a more student driven classroom & personalized learning.
A1: I found that I got more 1 on 1 time or small group instruction time with my Ss. I was able to conduct weekly writing conferences with my teacher group. Also- the technology aspect keeps Ss engaged and motivated. #cfisdchat
A1: Countless benefits to blended learning. It creates a Ss centered atmosphere where Ss choose their path and pace which allows for individualized learning to meet Ss at varying levels. Allows for more formative assessments and my FAV immediate feedback right then #CFISDchat
A1: I am dipping my toes into blended learning this year and I am seeing increased student engagement and independence. As a teacher, I am better able to individualize the learning and meet the diverse needs of my students. #CFISDchat
Ashley Spotted Wolf, 7th grade math teacher at Salyards Middle School. We started jumping all in with blended learning last week! Excited to learn more ideas and thoughts.
#WeAreSalyards#CFISDchat
A1: More time with teacher in small group setting, data from tech tools and other formative assessments, movement (brain break), pace of instruction #CFISDchat
A1: differentiation and different ways to practice and learn the content. Much more engaging than another worksheet. I really enjoy the small group and working with them. #CFISDchat
A2: Right now I’m using the station rotation model, but I will eventually move toward a station/playlist blend. Technology is incorporated into a few stations, but not all, and Chromebook usage is encouraged! #CFISDchat
A2: The best way I found was through roadmaps and hyperdocs. I gave an entire unit or project to my students all at once and they worked their way stop by step. @GoogleForEdu tools are a big help for the management side of it. #cfisdchat
A1: I love how BL builds kids up. Websites and videos don’t mind that they’ve been clicked on over and over, as many times as a kid needs. It creates safety in classrooms, being able to review/practice skills as many times as each S needs in their own way. #CFISDchat
A2 I’ve started to give it to them in Hyperdocs within a playlist. They like playlist because they can check stuff off when they finish it. I’m not threat at stations in the traditional sense— I found my kids like self pacing #CFISDchat
A2: I haven’t found the secret to blended learning in the Life Skills classroom (any other #cfisdLifeSkills teachers in the house?) but am going to try choice boards next quarter! I know there’s a way to use BL, and I just can’t wait to discover it! 🧚♀️ #CFISDchat
A2 I do a mix of different things. Choice boards are my jam, or playlists! They're always a mix of tech, no tech, and small group. It's always good to start small. It can get overwhelming. #CFISDchat
A2: We do station rotations. Students are on devices in Reading about +/- 40 mins per week. 3rd grade reading teachers @WarnerCFISD plan BL together! We use @Seesaw, @Flipgrid, and @GoogleForEdu. My parter @mooremath3rd uses BL in her class too! #cfisdchat
A2: digital playlists, creating projects, flipped lessons (especially great for subs) and right now videos to connect us during #GRARefugee which I am beyond excited about!#CFISDchat
A2: #CFISDChat For teachers who are hesitant, I usually suggest starting with a station rotation approach. It’s a great way to ease into blended learning for students & the teacher.
A2 I would like to implement it BL one day soon. I currently use rotations for math and we are still working the kinks out in that... maybe next semester we could move in Playlist etc. #CFISDchat
A2: I’ve seen station/rotation model, playlists and Google Classroom being used. I love seeing all the variations of playlists! We used one for staff for BOY tasks. It was awesome! #CFISDchat
Sorry I’m and out! Cooking for tomorrow. A1 I love how I am able to meet the needs of my students of varying learning styles. They are engaged & take accountability for their learning! #CFISDchat
A2: Our @salyardsms are taking it step by step, looking at each learning goal/objective, assessing where Ss are and then implementing strategies as best they can. They are really working in the station rotation model. #CFISDchat#SwashBengal#WeAreSalyards
Q2: teach rdg mini lesson small group style. Rotate though ML, Digital Studio to reinforce skills using some sort of activity posted on Google Classroom and use have Ss ind. read in a blocked rotation #CFISDchat
A2: On our campus, Ts use the station rotation, flipped classroom, & playlist models. There is typically a mix of tech, no tech, & teacher stations. #WeAreSalyards#CFISDchat
A2: The best way I found was through roadmaps and hyperdocs. I gave an entire unit or project to my students all at once and they worked their way stop by step. @GoogleForEdu tools are a big help for the management side of it. #cfisdchat
A2: Make everything purposeful. Pedagogy comes first. @CFISDWells began focusing on @E_Sheninger 8 keys and focused on these keys when planning lessons. Use tools to enrich and provide relevance. Our Tt began choice boards which helps with the management piece of BL #CFISDchat
A2: I started with rotations during our first grade math workshop. Ss use Google Classroom to access differentiated assignments. They have opportunities for choice and easy access for continuing at home. And ... YES! They do continue to access at home. #CFISDchat
The station rotation is actually what I’m doing the next few days as a reteach opportunity of difficult concepts for Gov’t, Economics & Demographic terms. There’s a variety of instructional information from matching to graphic organizers to using technology/google. #CFISDchat
A2: In Theatre, I have set up rotations to help students look at productions through different lenses (director, set designer, etc). They are also able to reflect on what they learn by relating the material to our current production. #CFISDChat
A1: I love how blended learning allows students to take ownership of their learning and encourages peer to peer teaching/learning #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards
A2: @AultElem teachers are mostly using stations or playlists. Most start with stations and progress to playlists. As an admin, we are using flipped meetings and hyperdoc book studies and trainings. #CFISDchat
A2: Any ways ISs or administrators are using in an innovative way?! I’d love more ideas. I want to create Google Drawing webs w/ ind skills needed for our interventions (from the BOY data) and maybe build some road maps from lowest grade level TEKS on checkpoints? #CFISDchat
A2: I love @dsdPD Phase 1-3 model with station rotation. It is the easiest to get in to and implement. It is practical and easy to understand.
#CFISDchat#CFISDblended
A1: Blended Learning allows teachers to meet students where they are and push them towards goals that are more attainable. Also differentiation and student choice and voice. #CFISDchat
A2:I have rotations-teacher led instruction, student independent reading, and a technology segment. They are responsible for themselves 2/3 of the time & eventually take ownership in their success (or lack thereof). It's a process but I get their buy-in fairly quickly. #CFISDchat
A2: Station rotations instead of typical rdg workshop. 4 groups rotate through MiniLesson, Digital Learning and Ind Rdg. Each rotation has a different type of seat. #CFISDchat
We had three lists: Red was due at the end of the week, Yellow was at your own pace due at the end of SEPT and Green was Grow Yourself-optional activities. #CFISDchat
A2 I use playlists & rotations! It’s so great because I’m able to incorporate more content areas and no one can go around! The students can see how their learning is used in ALL areas! #CFISDchat
A2: I use Google Sheets for the organization of it all. But right now I am in LOVE with @Flipgrid and it’s capability to connect us during #GRARefugee which we are beyond excited about!!! #CFISDchat
A3: I use Google Sheets for the organization of it all. But right now I am in LOVE with @Flipgrid and it’s capability to connect us during #GRARefugee which we are beyond excited about!!! #CFISDchat
A3: #CFISDChat I’m still a novice so Google Classroom is my familiar choice. In ELAR we found different sites that link reading passages to Google Classroom as well.
I’m hoping to find more resources for teachers.
A3: I'm VERY fond of all things Google! I love Google Classroom and how efficient and easy it is, and I keep finding more and more things Google Docs and Slides can do as well! 😁 #CFISDchat
A2: At my school teachers are using station rotation, choice boards, playlists, teacher created videos, tech tools for formative assessment and to allow for creativity in showing what they have learned #CFISDchat
A3: We have used @Seesaw for demonstrating learning on their own by recording short videos, drawing pictures, or typing sentences to show mastery of new vocab. Great for showing parents what their Ss are up to and starts a conversation at home! #cfisdChat
A2. I started with station rotations and worked my way toward student driven learning. Students were working at their own pace and took charge of their learning. #CFISDchat
A3: I think that the Google Suite is an all around best website/program to use. Every content can use them and it can become a very powerful collaboration tool. #GAFE#GoogleChrome#CFISDchat#CFISDblended
A3: Again @GoogleForEdu but I am learning more about @Flipgrid and @padlet. My approach is changing now that I am working with teachers instead of students. #cfisdchat
A1: Blended Learning allows teachers to meet students where they are and push them towards goals that are more attainable. Also differentiation and student choice and voice. #CFISDchat
A3: my go to is Google but I am in love with #classkick. Ts like how they can see Ss thinking on the assignment and can ask other Ss for help via the website https://t.co/9b07R8k81z#CFISDchat
Oh, thanks! I’ve been working with our ELA team on big ticket trainings we need to do but now I’m starting to think we could build something like this instead. Thank you, thank you, thank you. #cfisdchat
A1. The benefits to BL are that students have choice, students can work at a different pace, it frees up the teacher for small group instruction, the list is endless!!! #WeAreSalyards#CFISDchat#bengalstellnotales
A3 I use playlists in google sheets, questions in google classroom, Flipgrid, recording podcasts for them to listen to, I post opportunities for varied note-taking too #CFISDchat
A2 We have take the @CFISDScience curriculum and turned it into blended learning units. I have a wonderful 6th grade team that was willing to try something new. #CFISDchat
A3: I loved @goformative because I could literally see my Ss progress while I was pulling a small group. Edpuzzle for stations is fabulous while also holding Ss accountable. So many options! #CFISDchat
I set up 5 stations that the students visited over 3 days. These stations combined technology, individual, and collaborative work. The 6th and final station was the “accountability” station. This was an opportunity for my Ss to go revisit a station for more help. #CFISDchat
A2. I encourage teachers to use stations when trying out BL. It seems less intimidating to call it stations verses BL. We try to take baby steps so teachers and students don’t get too overwhelmed. #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards#BengalsTellNoTales
We use Google Clssrm for everything. We often do flipped meetings with @edpuzzle to ensure everyone understands the info. We use hyperdocs for trainings, and when we do a face to face training, we post it to the classroom with all the linked documents for easy access. #CFISDChat
A2:I have rotations-teacher led instruction, student independent reading, and a technology segment. They are responsible for themselves 2/3 of the time & eventually take ownership in their success (or lack thereof). It's a process but I get their buy-in fairly quickly. #CFISDchat
Agree!!! My favorite way to use slides is to have each participant create one slide in the slide deck. As @ericcurts says, students work “collabor-dependently” #cfisdchat
A3: I think that the Google Suite is an all around best website/program to use. Every content can use them and it can become a very powerful collaboration tool. #GAFE#GoogleChrome#CFISDchat#CFISDblended
#CFISDchat I have been creating statins that my students visit via a roadmap. They earn stamps at each level to determine whether they are ready to level up or not. #swashbengal#wearesalyards
A3: My favorite is Google Forms! It’s a great way to get feedback and collect data to inform instruction. My students also enjoy Flipgrid. It has been a great way for students to share their viewpoints and show understanding of class concepts #CFISDChat
A3: EdPuzzle, EdPuzzle, @edpuzzle!! I love how engaged Ss are when they are watching a video and answering questions. Plus, EdPuzzle has AMAZING PD on their website #CFISDchat
A2: I set up 5 stations that the students visited over 3 days. These stations combined technology, individual, and collaborative work. The 6th and final station was the “accountability” station. This was an opportunity for my Ss to go revisit a station for more help. #CFISDchat
A2 - I stole my station rotations from an elementary teacher - reading, writing, technology, manipulatives, teacher, and extension! I use a Google Excel sheet open on the Promethean board to let the kids track where they are at/what they've completed #CFISDchat
Oh I love the idea of incorporating @edpuzzle to highlight the parts of the models we’re watching (guided reading/strategy group and words their way training). My mind is filling with ideas. Thanks, Julie! #cfisdchat
A3: for my students, the benefits of BL are that they just like it better! They have a chance to get moving, have some variety, do things a little differenty, have flexibility! #CFISDchat
@CFISDchat A1 There are SO many benefits to blended learning! I think the main thing is that students get to apply their learning to their actual lives. It’s relatable! #CFISDchat
A3: I have just started to dabble in BL but have found Google classroom and all that goes with it to be so useful! Also love @padlet! Great way to easily share responses. #CFISDchat
A4: Today's Ss really need to be empowered, have a voice, & own their learning. We are not teaching Ss for the same type of jobs but all kinds. Some we don't even know about yet. We have to teach them to think critically. #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards
A4: Blended learning challenges the 21st century student by providing an opportunity to utilize technology while learning. Students are motivated, engaged, and challenged by the differentiation it can provide. #CFISDchat
Student centered and student voice! My Ss love the opportunity to take the lead and teach others and present information so I love seeing them take charge. #CFISDchat
A4: Our world is pretty dependent on technology now. Ss need an opportunity to safely learn how to use tech in *meaningful* ways. They also get the opportunity 2b global learners & practice collaborating w/people digitally within the classroom & around the world. #CFISDchat
A4: personalizes learning for student engagement. Making everything relevant and rigorous for our students. We must speak the language that they do so we engage them in learning g and we prepare them for the future. #CFISDchat
A4: We are learning that individualized learning is so important for our students to be successful. BL allows for that. Gone are the times of teachers standing at the front of the classroom and lecturing everyday (although I think sometimes that is still needed) #cfisdchat
A4: 21st Century Learners! Ss need to be critical problem-solvers and engage in meta-cognitive thinking. How are they learning? Did they get it? What can they do about it? #CFISDchat
A4: Giving my students choices helps them self-advocate. I’ve also learned a ton by just asking students what they want to learn. Differentiation is literally my whole job and I forget that sometimes it‘s as easy as asking Ss what they want to learn!💙 #CFISDchat
A4: students need a diverse learning environment. It promotes positive attitudes, collaboration, interest and engagement. Not everyone learns by textbook! #cfisdchat
A4: I feel like BL helps create those 21st century learners that we all address is our missions and visions. We’re producing future leaders who are problem solvers and independent thinkers...who have everything at their finger tips and are using it for good. 🌎🌍🌏 #cfisdchat
Oops, did something wrong, this isn’t the right answer for question 3. Who knows what I was answering!? Who’s the old timer now 😱 @meredithakers#CFISDChat
Right now we are loving @edpuzzle. I enjoy how we can incorporate our own questions for reflection as they watch a video. Also @classkick is another website I think we are going to love (tomorrow is our first day to try it). I can’t wait to see the outcome. #cfisdChat
A4: Its just like @mradamwelcome says.. we cannot keep teaching the same way every year. We have wifi kids now. BL makes learning relevant for Ss. We must create that relevance and flourish it. Ss should NOT see tech as a separate entity of learning but as a tool. #CFISDchat
A2 I implement blended learning mostly through Google Classroom, but I’ve been exploring huperdocs and choice boards. I LOVE that kids get to pace themselves and learn THEIR way. #CFISDchat
A2- I utilize the laptops and Google Classroom to allow students to work on vocabulary or other things as needed, independently, so that I can meet with students for small group instruction. #CFISDchat
A4 BALANCE it doesn’t have to be everything all the time but kids need to pace themselves and move at their own speed! They watch YouTube and listen to podcasts at double time we can’t expect them to sit and get for a lecture for 50m and it feel meaningful #CFISDchat
A4: Blended Learning creates a learning environment for today’s (and tomorrow’s) learners. It helps develop independent thinkers and problem solvers who understand how to access technology to answer questions, create solutions, and change the future! #CFISDchat
A4. BL allows kids to practice real life skills like collaboration and problem solving. If the teacher is with a small group, you can’t just interrupt. It forces kids to figure out solutions and seek out help from those around them. #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards#BengalsTellNoTales
A4: BL is a way that we can teach Ss to be lifelong learners because it teaches them to seek out their learning experience. They know that they get out what they put in, which is a HUGE lesson to learn at a young age! #CFISDchat
A5: BL starts to change the classroom into a S centered environment rather than a T centered one. When done correctly it empowers learning & alters the role of the teacher to change who owns the learning. #WeAreSalyards#CFISDchat
We started blended learning last week and started with station rotation. Each day we discuss what worked and what didn’t and brainstorm on how we can change it to make it better. It’s definitely a learning process but worth it in the end. #cfisdChat
A4 BL allows students to be reflective in a new way . Students are often in the driver seat when it comes to tech- Ts can facilitate conversations with students about their tech outcomes. Some Ss are more willing to share and take educational risks via BL #cfisdchat
A4: BL expands the walls of our classrooms. Allows students to collaborate, work at a pace that works for them, create products like nothing before, and then share all of that on different platforms!#CFISDchat
A4: It allows us to create opportunities for students use skills they need for the future. It gives them collaboration options and breaks into the technology world. #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards#SwashBengal
#CFISDchat A4-BL allows teachers to virtually be in multiple places at once and move at different paces to match their students. It is a lot of work on the front end, but the payoff is so worth it. #swashbengal#wearesalyards
A4: The World wants employees to have skills vs just knowledge! Employees need to collaborate, think critically, create and communicate. BL provides the means to do this. Imagine a S doing this from K-12. S will be ready to help solve world prob.
#CFISDchat#CFISDBlended
A5: BL allows Ss to be in control of their own learning while Ts just facilitate, which is totally different from when I was in school
#CFISDchat#CFISDblended
A5: I think it changes it so much for the better! Long gone are the old days of kids sitting at attention for an hour, taking notes and memorizing info. #CFISDchat
A3 My favorite app/website has honestly been Google Classroom. I can link to other websites, students can have conversations with each other, and I can see their progress without being the overbearing teacher. It gives them confidence! #CFISDchat
A5. Traditional teaching is where the classroom is led by the teacher...in a blended learning environment the teacher is a facilitator, the learner is in charge of the pace, path, and place of learning. #CFISDchat
A5: It enhances it - makes it more relevant to real-life. It also has the potential to create a student-centered classroom - allowing Ss the freedom and responsibility to take ownership of their learning in purposeful ways. #CFISDchat
A5: I don't think it has changed much in CTE. Blended learning has always been a part of CTE. The difference now is there is more technology incorporated than before. Especially in the new machines and techniques we teach students. #cfisdchat
A4: BL expands the walls of our classrooms. Allows students to collaborate, work at a pace that works for them, create products like nothing before, and then share all of that on different platforms!#CFISDchat
A5: It changes the mindset of Ts and Ss in a way that is amazing. Ts become facilitators guiding Ss through their learning experience instead of Ts leading all of the learning in their classroom. #CFISDchat
A5: Blended learning changes the traditional classroom because it is learner paced making it far more efficient. Students can work at their own pace which means time in class can address their own learning needs. #CFISDchat
A1 so many benefits. Ability to personalize learning for each student. Also allows for voice, choice, and collaboration. Teacher can meet in small groups based on data driven needs . #cfisdchat
A5: Traditional classroom - everyone doing the same thing... BL classroom - everyone doing something different to achieve the same mastery objective #cfisdchat
A5: the T is no longer the save on the stage. The Ss can be in charge of their learning opportunities while using the T and tech tools to explore. #CFISDchat#SwashBengal#WeAreSalyards
A5: BL changes the traditional classroom since it becomes more student-centered rather than teacher-directed. Also, the Ss that like to “hide” or “fake” learn don’t have that opportunity. Accountability is key! #CFISDchat
A5: #blendedlearning starts to Personalized the learning for the students. The students start to have voice, choice, and ownership of their learning #CFISDchat
A3: I have just started to dabble in BL but have found Google classroom and all that goes with it to be so useful! Also love @padlet! Great way to easily share responses. #CFISDchat
A5 I’m no longer at the front of the room but I’m a facilitator and I have time to sit with or work with students who might need extra assistance #CFISDchat
Blended learning is like doing Zumba.....In the beginning its all over the place, once you get the hang of it it´s totally AMAZING! @dsdPD that needs to go on a slide lol #CFISDchat@CyFairEdTech#CFISDspirit
A4 BL put my students in charge of their own learning. They were held accountable instead of sitting there waiting to be fed content. I can’t tell you what it did for some of the behavior issues in my 8th per ICS class. There wasn’t any time to play around! #CFISDchat
A5: It allows for Ss centered classrooms where the Tt is the facilitator of learning. Ss collaboration as well as Ss reflection. Builds relevance for learning. #cfisdchat
A4 Students get the chance to learn how they learn best. It also give students responsibility over their own learning. No longer is it fully on the teacher to teach. The students get to teach themselves as well. How cool! #CFISDchat
A6: The best way I can describe a teacher’s role in the BL classroom is like a tour guide. Show Ss where and how to find information and provide them with information they need along the way. Provide support and ask Ss questions! #CFISDchat
A6: The T is the guide or facilitator along the learning journey. They are not the keeper of all the answers. T make sure Ss stay on the right path to learning the needed material & provides the tools for the learning. #CFISDchat#WeAreSalyards
A5: The biggest changes I can see visually in the classrooms are that the Ts have gone from the front of the room teaching to a small group area meeting with Ss more often, and Ss are more independent and engaged but there are sooo many more changes! #CFISDchat
A6: The teacher becomes a facilitator. There to answer questions and help students will struggle. Facilitate communication and collaboration. No longer the lecturer. #cfisdchat
A6: The teacher’s role throughout blended learning should become more of a facilitator that helps guide the students in learning. Students should be doing more, instead of sitting and getting #CFISDchat
We started blended learning last week and started with station rotation. Each day we discuss what worked and what didn’t and brainstorm on how we can change it to make it better. It’s definitely a learning process but worth it in the end. #cfisdChat
A6. Although the teacher's role is more of a facilitator, there are other elements involved such as goal setting that are imperative to the success of the student. Also being a role model as a learner too! #CFISDchat
A6: The Ts role is to facilitate the learning. Discovery by Ss should be much more evident than in a traditional classroom. There is a lot of up front work, but in the classroom, the T should be free to meet with groups and individuals while Ss are actively learning. #CFISDchat
A6: Teachers serve as facilitators, support, and experts in their material. They must be willing to take risks, be organized, and use data based decision making to support and track student growth. #CFISDchat
A5 It changed the game! No more full class period lectures, reading out loud from the textbook, or wrote memorization. Now, students are realizing there are different ways to learn the same info and that they have the opportunity to choose how! #CFISDchat
A6: The T is the MC and presents multiple pathways that may or may not utilize technology to help Ss achieve their goals and content objectives. #cfisdchat
Blended Learning provides opportunities for Ss who are ashamed that they don't know, to not "act out" because they get to go at their own pace.
#CFISDBlended
A5: a traditional classroom has limits, it does not challenge the Ss to become thirsty for more knowledge! Blended learning opens up limitless possibilities. #CFISDchat
Blended Learning is learning that is partly in a brick and mortar school, and partly online that allows students to learn at their own pace, place and path.
#CFISDBlended@CyFairEdTech
A6: Teachers are the facilitators. But, they must prepare, prepare, prepare! Formal and informal data checks should help drive the planned activities. Putting in the extra work will pay off! #CFISDchat
