A1: You cannot draw them their personal roadmap without knowing. To meet them where they are at, it is crucial to know how they got there. #ecechat
  • Owl_b_TorresEdu Feb 12 @ 9:36 PM EST
A1: We need to have realistic, challenging expectations for all students...we can't do this if we assume that everyone walks in the door equal...remember, that growth for one will not always be the same for the next. #ECEchat
  • lindsay8503 Feb 12 @ 9:36 PM EST
A1: It's important to know where the students come from and where they're going so that you can make connections and create relationships with them. #ecechat
  • katyphinney Feb 12 @ 9:36 PM EST
A1 We must understand the daily life of our students in order to truly know how to support their growth! #ecechat

RT Q1: Why is it important to know where your students come from and where they are going? #ECEchat
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:37 PM EST
A1. Building bridges and not reinventing wheels is essential for successful starts to each year. #ECEchat
  • tinacruickshank Feb 12 @ 9:37 PM EST
A1. We need to know who they are to help them get to where we want them. We want to use their experiences and who they are to learn and grow #ecechat
  • JKrollie Feb 12 @ 9:37 PM EST
It is so important to know and be a part of the community. We have so many kids with realitives in the school. You will know what hardships your kiddos will face and where they will go. #ECEchat
  • ECEchat - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:38 PM EST
Next question up in one minute! #ECEChat
  • wolffdavid11 Feb 12 @ 9:38 PM EST
A1: We have several transitions in our district; it is so important to me to ensure that my students feel safe, welcome, and recognize familiar faces as they come to our building @NevelnSchool and as they move out to @Holton492 #ecechat
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:38 PM EST
yes! Kids shouldn't have to restart every-year-we can bring that background knowledge in before they become students in our classrooms. #ECEChat
    In reply to @lindsay8503
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:39 PM EST
Q2: How do you gain information from your student's former teachers to form future success? #ECEchat
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:39 PM EST
This #ECEChat is only 30 minutes-still time to jump in!
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:39 PM EST

What a great question to kick off #ecechat tonight!!!
  • Owl_b_TorresEdu Feb 12 @ 9:40 PM EST
A2: We had Ts complete an info card on the Ss that were moving on to a new teacher. Both academic and SEL information requested. We also asked if there were peer recommendations or avoidances. #ECEchat
  • KipLynk Feb 12 @ 9:40 PM EST
A2: This is an area we need to improve on. We do not dedicate nearly enough time to spending time with former teachers. So much can be learned. Would love to hear how you all do it. #ecechat
  • JKrollie Feb 12 @ 9:41 PM EST
I work at a small school @FondrenES so I can easily talk to the Pre-K teacher about kids I will get or have. I can also check on my former kiddos and reach out if needed. Plus, I am teaching siblings/cousins of kids I've had or known before which helps. #ECEchat
  • lindsay8503 Feb 12 @ 9:41 PM EST
A2: I'm in PreK, so most often I'm the first teacher that my kids have. However, I do go on home visits before the year starts, so I gather information about each student then. #ecechat
  • tinacruickshank Feb 12 @ 9:41 PM EST
A2. In my situation, I need necessary info from parents, they are the first teacher and it helps me set their students up for success. Having transitioned kiddos to the next grade, it is important to share needs and positives don’t dwell on negative thoughts #ecechat
  • katyphinney Feb 12 @ 9:42 PM EST
A1 As Pre-K teachers we are the students first school teacher so it is important to build a relationship with the family as they are the child's first teachers! #ecechat
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:42 PM EST
communication and collaboration across settings means a win for all involved! #ECEChat

  • lindsay8503 Feb 12 @ 9:42 PM EST
When it's time to transition to Kdg, I meet with the Kdg teachers from each school in the district and give a brief rundown (academically and social-emotionally) about each child that will attend that particular school. #ecechat
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:42 PM EST

  • 2ndGradeMama Feb 12 @ 9:43 PM EST
A1: #ecechat #HackingEarlyLearning We need to know where our Ss come from so we plan lessons that will be meaningful and engaging to them. We also need to know where they are going so we can help them reach their goals.
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:43 PM EST
so true-painting the picture of the whole child and not focusing on the rough spots is essential. #ECEChat
    In reply to @tinacruickshank
  • wolffdavid11 Feb 12 @ 9:43 PM EST
A2: I think it is easier in our elementary buildings because we have 4 grade levels - the teacher take ownership over all the kids they interact with on a daily basis; teams share with each other at the beginning and the end of the year within the building #ecechat
  • ECEchat - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:44 PM EST
RT Q2: How do you gain information from your student's former teachers to form future success? #ECEchat
  • AmandaCochran80 Feb 12 @ 9:44 PM EST
Q1- You have to understand the students/ families to help build relationships with them. #ECEChat
  • 2ndGradeMama Feb 12 @ 9:44 PM EST
A2: #ECEChat #HackingEarlyLearning We gain information from Ss prior teachers through Pink/Blue sheets that have data on the child as well as notes on what worked for interventions/enrichment to help keep great things in place.
  • ECEchat - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:45 PM EST
Next question up in one minute! #ECEChat
  • wolffdavid11 Feb 12 @ 9:45 PM EST
A2: Transitions between building pose a more difficult challenge; from our K Center @WKC492 to our 4 ele. we have a form that the K teachers complete for EVERY child so we can learn about ALL of them; focuses a lot of social skills, emotional skills, ex. functioning #ecechat
  • drphilcampbell Feb 12 @ 9:45 PM EST
PC from TN, jumping in from a flight to TX. A2: It's all about relationships, so any info you can gain from previous connections can be huge. That being said, it's also important to not judge a kid negatively based on a previous poor experience with another teacher. #ECEchat
  • JessicaCabeen - Moderator Feb 12 @ 9:46 PM EST
Q3: What information do you share with next year's team to prepare them to continue your students successful paths? #ECEchat
  • KipLynk Feb 12 @ 9:46 PM EST
Exactly! Every kid should get a fresh start each year. Different personalities play differently in different classrooms. #ecechat

A3: Academic achievements, areas of difficulty, coping skills used, friends, home environment/background...we want to look at the whole child as much as possible. I want the Ts to be able to see how far a Ss has come and where they need to take them. #ECEchat
  • tinacruickshank Feb 12 @ 9:47 PM EST
A3. Strengths and Needs both academically and behaviorally and behavior accommodations/ things that help them be successful. #ECEChat

great idea!! do the colors mean something? #ECEChat
    In reply to @2ndGradeMama
  • lindsay8503 Feb 12 @ 9:49 PM EST
Q3: I'll share where each child is academically and social-emotionally. If there are particular behavior challenges with a student, I'll give a brief overview and what I've done with the child that has been successful. I try to inform, not scare. #ecechat
  • drphilcampbell Feb 12 @ 9:49 PM EST
A3: Share their story. Sounds simple, but often overlooked. So many of our kids live in extreme circumstances that are hard for many of us to fathom. As Ts, we have to meet our kids where they are, & a huge part of that is knowing each child's story. #ECEchat
  • seemeliplay Feb 12 @ 9:49 PM EST
A1 We must know what skills students have that we can build upon. We must know the goal to help students reach it with proper support/scaffolding, etc #ECEchat

A3. For some of my hardest kiddos I have built in time for them to spend time in the next grade classroom building that relationship before the next year starts #ECEChat
  • wolffdavid11 Feb 12 @ 9:52 PM EST
