@ukedchat#ukedchat#a1 no but this year I will as we are fully staffed in the hums fac and as Iβm considered to be the senior member of fac will move as room is ridiculously tight in my school
#ukedchat we have a specific form to use but they are not used consistently they are supposed to be left in a particular place but I fall foul of this and often leave a4 notes in classroom but only if Iβm in school.
A1: For many primary music specialist teachers, this is more often than not, the norm. Having to teach music in individual classrooms without access to any instruments presents a great challenge for both teacher and pupils alike. #UKEdChat
A1 No. I have always had my own classroom and own class. I think I would struggle being a nomadic teacher! I like having my own base, space for my own things etc. #UKEdChat
#ukedchat#a2 we have a specific form to use but they are not used consistently they are supposed to be left in a particular place but I fall foul of this and often leave a4 notes in classroom but only if Iβm in school.
#UKEdChat A2 Detailed plans are left with the proviso that they can adapt as necessary. Also make sure that any resources are available or easily accessed. Avoid tech that can go wrong or cause problems such as not knowing passwords etc.
A2 Depends on the lesson being left, but often a written note and the resources needed. Often takes longer to prepare a lesson for others than doing it yourself. #ukedchathttps://t.co/L7AHkrvU5R

Very important point, especially for specialists who should really have a special space to perform at their best, but usually end up in a cupboard somewhere instead. https://t.co/tXPMUPFMU9#UKEdChat

A2 Personally I think the best way is to have a whole school folder on the system with the lessons left in there, plus an overview taped to your desk (if you know you're going to be off) #ukedchat
A3: Having no central base for books and equipment. Have no say in setting seating plans. Always feel as if you "borrowing" the room, and need to return it in pristine condition #ukedchat
#UKEdChat A3 Not knowing where things are, although pupils can usually help with that. With very small people, sticking to their routine! You need to befriend any TAs and LSAs quickly. Adopting someone else's classroom layout.
A2 I give each team member including cover staff a medium term plan. The teachers who cover PPA will be asked about what they'd like to cover and we come to an agreement. If it is last minute cover I will explain what I had planned to teach / I might deliver intro... #UKEdChat
@ukedchat A3 itβs not easy to really set down roots and work on the side of your practice that shapes your voice and personality as a teacher. #UKEdChat
#UKEdChat Q4
What are the must-have, fail-safe classroom resources or activities that you, as a nomadic teacher, can always fall back on if no guidance has been provided?
Pls use the hashtag & A4...
A3 Our cover teachers said it's difficult not having a space for their things but they have been given storage to tackle that issue. I expect my class to be as tidy and caring about resources with someone else as they are with me, sometimes this doesn't happen. #UKEdChat

#ukedchat A3 for me, as a specialist MFL teacher in primary, I donβt have any reference materials on walls for children to refer to. Teachers forget I have to teach in their room so leave a complete mess not conducive to learning. Hard to carry dictionaries. The list goes on!
A3 I have my own room but due to resourcing only get to spend 60% of my time in it, a colleague who has been with my team for a year hasnβt had a permanent base and Iβm sure part of his ongoing development relies on him having a room to settle into #UKEdChat
A1: As an FE lecturer now we no longer have a classroom base or even a subject room/area. This makes it difficult to create displays yet we are expected to. I do miss my own room but it does keep my photocopying to a minimum! #ukedchat
A3: Not always being able to get in to the room early to set up for a lesson thus the first 5 minutes can be wasted tidying/moving desks/setting up tasks even just logging on to the computer! #ukedchat
A5 Our cover teachers don't do meetings with parents, SEN paperwork or end of year reports (unless they are doing a job share). They often cover the same subjects in 2/3 classes meaning less planning. They maybe doing group teaching in the morning so reduced marking. #UKEdChat
I did it for 4 years. No room, no base, moved every lesson. Was the main reason for moving on. I'm all for sharing the burden of resources have to be stretched. But when it falls to the same person/ people it really does wear you down A3 #ukedchat
Various dice for creating maths games. Interesting pictures/photos on a memory stick are useful for creative writing or role-play. A supply of sharpened pencils (inc colours) to avoid younger pupils not getting started due to lackof these and whiteboard pens.
#UKEdChat Q6
Is it important to you to have a designated space to work outside of the classroom, like your own staffroom desk?
Pls use the hashtag & A6...
A2: This year I've put all tasks and lessons on Google Classroom and tried to incorporate Padlet so students have to do the work and I can quickly check up from anywhere. Reliance on rooms and other staff to cover isn't always guaranteed at FE. #ukedchat
A1 I am going to be a nomadic teacher from September onwards and will also be working across two departments. Organisation should be the key to make it work. #ukedchat
#UKEdChat Q6 again

A6 Yes agreed! You need a place to work in where you won't be distracted. Many teachers complain about time and not having enough of it. It's important to make the most of every minute! #UKEdChat
#UKEdChat A5. Makes you organised and versatile - need to be very flexible. Get to know more pupils - very useful when on playground duty! Have to be creative if not much has been left - develops confidence and can produce excellent ideas that you haven't had time to overthink.
A6: Thankfully as a ft lecturer I have my own desk but pt hot desk and end up often in the student library as there's no desks/computers in offices. Hardly conducive to prepping and marking. Increasingly concerning now too with GDPR #ukedchat
A6 although I find that I chat more to people if I go to our shared work area but then realise I need to do that sometimes rather hog the office and shut myself off #ukedchat
#UKEdChat A6 When nomadic I didn't have a designated space but the most important part was that it was somewhere quiet where people wouldn't try to talk to you all the time such as the library or the ICT suite.
A5: I've cut down significantly on photocopying and a reliance on resources. I'm minimal yet expect students to come prepared. As I have no spare pens, paper etc they quickly become adept at remembering. Greater focus and application to studying #ukedchat
I have never thought about it! Is this not a priveledge that belongs outside of education!? I would & do like a workspace out of the classroom(not my home) but it doesn't have to be my own. Just conducive to work. Not big comfy chairs & no tables in the staff room. #ukedchat A6
Plus having a team office means you can personalise e.g telephone numbers important to department, departmental paperwork, department wall planner etc.#ukedchat
#UKEdChat A7 They both have their advantages - nomadic teachers can share ideas with other teachers and won't get bored with the same pupils all year but you don't build the same rapport and learning opportunities that you share with your own class.
A6 When I moved into middle leadership I felt I had to be in the office incase anyone needed me so I was central but really I was dominating it and probably made it a worse place for people to be you know Iβm head of fac my office! #ukedchat
A6: We don't have a staffroom but small offices with 3/4 staff. For work these are great but actually a lack of communal staffroom can be isolating and I'm much more lonely than I ever was in my secondary school. #ukedchat
Have a quick starter/warm up tasks ready whilst you then have time to set up without getting flustered or them switching off before they've even begun. These can be dingbats or 3 questions from last lesson that they already have! You and they quickly adapt!
A8 I think you can share planning, paperwork online with your colleagues easily. We are looking at a virtual platform next year which should make things easier. #UKEdChat
A7 #ukedchat
Permenant - the classroom is likely to feel more secure and familiar. Sometimes changes/unpredictability can make children feel anxious and overwhelmed.
#UKEdChat A8 Having access to shared drives from home means that you can see what a class has been working on and medium term plans if a member of staff suddenly has to be off and cannot prep you beforehand.
A8: Im much more reliant on tech & digital tools and now if a classroom has a broken projector or no wifi, it's much mire of a problem. I'd much rather have physical resources as I would have done in a permanent base as I'd feel more confident and in control. #ukedchat
Prior to tech, all medium term plans were in a file with the paper resources in the main English office. It was just as easy prior to with less need to be tech savvy should a YouTube clip or app be necessary. #ukedchat
A8 - Very much so. Can now work anywhere in the school, or even how Guernsey's schools network system work, work at my school, send to print and collect the printout from my wife's school ... #ukedchat
