We are honored to have @JustinAglio leading the convo on Motivation!
But 1st...introductions!
Please share who you are & how you "gladiate" for students!
#EduGladiators
Morning - first time in this chat. I teach high school social studies through comics and pop culture. I push for student choice and voice! #edugladiators
tyler from California (until December) then moving to upstate NEW YORK! Changing venues for gladiating, but excited to be transitioning and the adventure ahead! #edugladiators
Favorite motivational song for myself is “season of love” from rent. For my kiddos....hmmm....”life is a highway” the remake edition from the movie cars #edugladiators
Favorite motivational songs right now is "Whatever it Takes" and "Centuries" by Imagine Dragons...really almost any Imagine Dragons song...#edugladiators
1st time in a twitter chat?
It's fun & easy to jump right in & share your thoughts or ask more Qs! Here's how...
Qs drop as Q1...Q2...& you answer A1...A2...
Don't forget to include #EduGladiators hashtag & follow @EduGladiators where ALL of our Qs drop from!
Kristen Fulgenzio 4th grade math/science teacher at @BAECinAction and favorite motivational song is a new one I hear on the way to work called High Hopes by Panic! At the Disco! #EduGladiators
A1: The team @MontourSD! They are always putting children first, supporting a growth mindset, and creating a learning culture! #MontourProud#EduGladiators
We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say “It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem." Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.
- Fred Rogers
#EduGladiators
Thanks Kate. What a great way to read the #storiesinedu book & get inspired by the stories of fellow educators. Thanks for sharing this! We should organize a book study like this so all your colleagues can do it too & then share their reflections & applications! #EduGladiators
A1 My assistant principal because he is always prepared, offers suggestions and keeps positive. If he can do it for the kids everyday so can I. I appreciate his style and approach. #twominds#differentbutsame#EduGladiators
A1: My wife, 2 kids, educators and students. Every day all of them, in one way or another, inspire me to be a better person, partner, parent and educator. #edugladiators

A1. My PLN motivates me as they help see different perspectives and ways for me to improve/grow. This includes many on SM and Voxer. My students reaffirm the importance of needing this change and growth as I see where value a great school experience. #EduGladiators
A1: My students and Admin motivate my to be my best (in the professional world) my students deserve the best therefore I want to give them that and my admin encourages risks, allows PD often and does positive reflection: things to think about walk-throughs! #edugladiators
A1: my kiddos! For some the best part of their day is school and nothing drives me more than to make the most of the time I have with them! #EduGladiators

A1: We have Advisory Committees to help guide our Ag programming and curriculum. The people who serve on that committee are AMAZING. They provide great feedback and care about how to improve student learning. They motivate me to improve after each meeting! #edugladiators
A1-First and most importantly...my students. Everyday they make me better. Then I have to go to my PLN...people like @Rdene915@THurtadoEDU@MissKRafferty...people who are amazing at their jobs and make me want to do better. #edugladiators

A1: My students motivate me to be my best because education is incredibly valuable, so being a good teacher is incredibly important. #cheesybuttrue#edugladiators
A1: Children- both my own & those I teach. My husband, My colleagues at work, my administrators, my colleagues in the doctoral program. I have a great village of support who inspire me merely by believing in me! #EduGladiators#TXed#edleadership
A1b They deserve the best education we can help them discover for themselves. Education is a gift we must make a truly special and valued experience #EduGladiators
A1: first and foremostmy Ss. I’m at a title 1 school so knowing how hard their home lives are pushes me to be there for them in ways I never thought possible. Also all the phenomenal educators on the twittersphere #edugladiators
A1. I am motivated and inspired by my mother. Her commitment as a single parent, sacrifice, and courage to raise us to be independent, educated, and self sufficient keeps me grounded, but mostly it inspires me. Anybody that knows me knows I love my momma. #EduGladiators
A1 My husband and 2 children are always motivating and supporting me. I am also lucky to have an admin. and Ss who motivate me every day😊#EduGladiators
A1 sounds cheesy - but it’s my students who motivate me everyday. Knowing the hurdles they have overcome. Hearing them talk about changing the world. This generation will fix us, and I count my own three children in as well. #edugladiators
A1: I’m an intrinsically motivated person. Learning for the sake of knowledge and growing because I hate to be stagnant. It helps that I am surrounded by a team of admin and teachers who bring ideas and suggestions all the time. They keep my brain churning #EduGladiators

A1. I’m also motivated by all the children I serve. Especially the ones who are growing up in poverty with the odds stacked against them. I never forget that we are one in the same. #EduGladiators
A1: My best friend and fellow educator Eric is at the top of my list. He and his wife Hannah are always so supportive, positive, encouraging in ways that help me to have confidence and believe in myself. Because of that, I stay motivated to keep going. #edugladiators
A1) My family, so many people in @waukeshaschools, my PLN & most importantly young adults. They celebrate success & failure with me & encourage me to continue to learn/grow. #edugladiators
A1: my students and my co-workers push me to be the best I can be! I’m always wanted to make it more engaging and challenge my students to be better! #EduGladiators
A1: Great educators motivate me. We just finished two weeks of professional development with amazing educators from across South Carolina and their desire to rethink and transform education motivates me to try harder, push harder to be the best I can be for them. #EduGladiators
A1: I would have to say my students motivate me to be the best person and SLP that I could be. I do all of this work for them and for me! #EduGladiators
A1: Motivation is everywhere! So many great things happening in schools everyday! Students doing great things, teachers giving incredible efforts to reach new heights. We can’t forget to look around us and soak in all the greatness!! #Edugladiators
A1. I’m also motivated by what could be...by a vision and hope for a better future for all human beings. Equity matters to me. It matters a great deal. #EduGladiators
A1: Other than my students, I am motivated by “better.” “Best” suggests an end. Better suggests a next. I am driven by the belief that better’s around the bend. That’s why I chase better. That’s why I choose change. #project180#edugladiators
A1: These two...my ❤️beats outside of my body @Collin_Taylor13@haydent18 motivate me to be my best because I want to set a good example of unconditional love, service & compassion. They truly inspire me! #edugladiators
I love how so many of us are inspired by our kiddos...we need to let them know that I feel. I’ve been doing so and it changes their outlook....they realize they’re important #edugladiators
A2: "If I were to summarize in one sentence the single most important principle I have learned in the field of interpersonal relations, it would be this: Seek first to understand, then to be understood."
- Dr. Stephen R. Covey
#EduGladiators
A1. I’m also motivated by what could be...by a vision and hope for a better future for all human beings. Equity matters to me. It matters a great deal. #EduGladiators
A1: So many motivators: my teachers @bankstreetedu , my kids, parents, people I meet - many times it's people's stories and actions that motivate me. #edugladiators#litbankstreet
A1. I am motivated and inspired by my mother. Her commitment as a single parent, sacrifice, and courage to raise us to be independent, educated, and self sufficient keeps me grounded, but mostly it inspires me. Anybody that knows me knows I love my momma. #EduGladiators
A1: I am motivated by the children in the schools I support - especially the students who are bored, misunderstood, or “misbehaving”. I strive to help their teachers take time to better understand them. #edugladiators
A1. I’m also motivated by what could be...by a vision and hope for a better future for all human beings. Equity matters to me. It matters a great deal. #EduGladiators
A2 I try to keep in mind that we are all on a journey and are at different places along the way. They may be motivated by something that doesn't motivate me. And that's OK. #edugladiators
A1 my motivation for teaching is inspired by Jesus Christ. If you read any of the gospels with the lens of a teacher you see the amazing ways in which he taught and the relevance of the lesson. I want to emit that love and value of each Ss in my classroom #EduGladiators
A2: Meet them where they are at and seek to understand why they lack motivation. Be open and kind always...we may become their motivation! #edugladiators
A2: I try and discover what their “motivation” is. Kim Scott talks about it in her book “Radical Candor” the difference between Superstars and “rock”stars. Everyone is motivated. Just different things drive us. #edugladiators

A1: I am motivated by so many people. I want to be my best to serve my community. I want to serve my teachers and support them. I want to serve these darling students! They are a joy to me and I Love My Job! I am a servant oriented leader. Serving motivates me. #EduGladiators
A2 be understanding that we are all going through struggles. A teacher or student who looks “unmotivated” might be taking care of a sick parent, sibling, or other trial. Be human. Reach out. Offer to help. I had one of those years, until https://t.co/mdyoQlRAJY#edugladiators
A1) My former #students that I believed in #motivate me. It has been a challenging couple of weeks for me and out of nowhere I received this message from a former student I have not seen in 5 years. This is why I am an educator!!! #EduGladiators
A1 first start to look at the root of this tension-are they les motivated because I’m imposing “my thing” instead of finding “our thing” #EduGladiators
A1: Great educators motivate me. We just finished two weeks of professional development with amazing educators from across South Carolina and their desire to rethink and transform education motivates me to try harder, push harder to be the best I can be for them. #EduGladiators
Socioeconomic vision is compelling. I feel so responsible for vision-casting with my HS math students because in so many ways, math is a gateway. #edugladiators
A2. I try to be empathetic and understand their perspectives while building rapport and maximize their strengths. Key is to help foster growth! #EduGladiators
A1: My number one motivator is my wife who is also best friend. She has always been able to see things in me that I could not see. I have to give her credit for pushing me to succeed. #edugladiators
A2: I try to remind myself every are all on our own paths AND “comparison is the thief of joy” ...I focus on keeping myself motivated and hope it might rub off on others if they hang around me for long enough #edugladiators
A2: I do my best to offer help if it is wanted, greet everyone with a smile, stay positive and give encouraging words! I also frequently offer to do collaborative projects which hopefully ends with others becoming more motivated ☺️#edugladiators
A2 As leaders, it's important that we understand the levels of and sources for motivation in others. If we feel they are less motivated, we mustn't become frustrated, but seek ways to build their motivation and contributions to team success #edugladiators

A1. My HS biology teacher. With limited resources, he made every class interesting & prepared me for college. He also went beyond academics & taught us lessons on how to be positive young men. I have to pass this advantage on to other Ss. #EduGladiators
We had a conversation with a young girl talking about her boyfriend not liking her working on school stuff at home... we told her to find another boyfriend. Lol! #EduGladiators

A2 I try not to compare myself to others because everyone is different, but if it is something we are working on together, just trying to have a conversation and find out why someone may not be as invested #edugladiators

A2 even if I myself am pressed for time, I try to ask them if they need any help. Maybe they just need a bright spot in their day to motivate them. #EduGladiators
A2: By surrounding myself with Marigolds and blocking out the walnuts! @mrsfigmakes shared this with myself and 4 other INCREDIBLE new teachers last year. They are my rock and some of my best friends. https://t.co/PX9qhcVcX4#EduGladiators
A1. I’m also motivated by what could be...by a vision and hope for a better future for all human beings. Equity matters to me. It matters a great deal. #EduGladiators
A2 Reflection really helps. Also, I want to do what’s best for kids first and foremost. It might make others uncomfortable because I do so much extra but I want to help kids want to learn. #EduGladiators
It could be they aren’t “less” motivated but aren’t less driven by what motivates us. I often find myself conflating the two, I’m learning #EduGladiators
So much this! I was planning on leaving teaching after 15 years, until my online peeps saved me! Forever grateful! https://t.co/yCbrZO76fH#EduGladiators
A2: I consider where they are at and where they are coming from. I then provide the little push they need to move forward in some fashion. No one can be at a standstill for too long. #givealittlepush#forwardthinking#EduGladiators
A1. “As I look back over my life
And I think things over I can truly say that I've been blessed
I've got a testimony”
Believe your testimony. Share your testimony.

A2. I recognize that we are all shaped by our experiences. My drive is the product of growing up in poverty, of knowing the struggle and burden of not having money and limited access and opportunity. I was conditioned to run my race at full speed. #mystory#EduGladiators
A2: Try to find out WHY they are less motivated, and what they need to GET motivated. Focus on their needs rather than my frustration. Stay positive. Keep encouraging. Be there to listen and help. #edugladiators
Happy Saturday morning from The Woodlands, TX where my high school son is about to compete in the Nike South Regionals XC meet! Keeping warm in the car for now as I get motivated by #EduGladiators! My songs are Broken Glass by Rachel Platten and Roar by Katy Perry! 🤣
A2: I don't let anyone bring me down. I truly believe that if we all model positivity and all are motivated to become better people and teachers, others will follow. #EduGladiators
Good morning #edugladiators! I’m Kim from Wisconsin. The students bring me so much joy in so many ways & I try to reciprocate that back to them through my interactions & visibility.
A2) I just keep doing what I do. I hope my actions will influence & inspire others. I also do a wellnes check on them asking how they are. There might be a reason why they are not motivated #EduGladiators

a2 I believe nothing I do should be "about me." While I really, really love to make everyone happy, it's not even about how I feel. Not everyone has the time to invest to do what could be done. #edugladiators
A2: this can be a real challenge, currently I have a great Team that I work on and a great PLC! We all work together to do what is best for our students! Glad that I have a group like this! Tough for me to understand how egos get in the way! #EduGladiators
A2: the struggle is real. I try to win them over by tapping into their passions. This is something that I am always trying to refine because it is the source of most my my frustrations. I am also practicing mindfulness daily to refocus my thoughts #EduGladiators

A2: I try to realize where that frustration is coming from. Often times, it’s overwhelming. I tell them to look at the task at hand in chunks rather than as a whole. I also remind them of their why. I hope that my motivation & work is enough to motivate them! #EduGladiators
A2: I’ll be honest: I struggle with this - I do get frustrated. But I don’t allow this to bring me down or lower my motivation. I still push hard to lead by example, build relationships, take time to understand different perspectives, and remember things take time. #edugladiators
A2: Leaders have to be good readers of people and ask the right questions. Wanna know more about your staff - don’t wait until they are disgruntled, get to know them. Ask, probe, know your people and then put them in the place they fit best. #edugladiators
A2 We all bring differences to the table, just because a T, S, or A is "less" motivated then I, dosent mean that they dont feel its imp. What ARE they motivated by? #EduGladiators
A2: Not always well. But I’ve gotten better. I’ve come to accept that each is on their own journey for better, and just as I seek commitment, not compliance from my students, I hope the same for my colleagues. They have to find their way, in their way. #edugladiators
A2) Trying to find their motivation for our project. Talking with them. Not everyone appreciates the support/“cheerleading” & I try to respect that. Work in progress!! #EduGladiators
A2: I try remember the old saying that if you are pointing a finger at someone, you have 3 pointing back at yourself. If someone doesn't seem motivated, I realize I might have it wrong and may even get frustrated, but I ask myself what I can do to help.#edugladiators
A2) I try to remember that their journey is not my journey. Their destiny is not my destiny. Give everyone the space to grow and hope my leadership (influence) inspires them to achieve more. #EduGladiators
Never apologize for doing what you feel is best for kids- internal motivators of empathy & the desire to see kids succeed will eventually break through to motivate others.....or not. you just keep being you #EduGladiators
A2: After many years I have come to the point where I only worry about what I can control. I do my best to be a good role model and stay true to my mission. I may think out loud about what I need to do to motivate others. #EduGladiators
A1: My own children motivate me to be the best I can be... better than I was yesterday. I am also very much motivated by my school family- - the staff & students I am so lucky to work with every day. #edugladiators

A2. I often try to see their point of view. If I’m highly noticed about something, I ask myself why. As educators (I feel) we forget the level of excitement differs. Energy is different for everyone.

A2: Individuals who seem less motivated may need clarification on why we are doing things a certain way. Or they may not be having a good day. In both cases, talking to those who you see lack motivation reveals their situation. Communicate to motivate. #edugladiators
Yes! Not a one size fits all approach. We are all unique and motivated differently. Sometimes gets lost in traditional schools and the assembly like process. #edugladiators
I agree. I have to always remind myself if it is best for kids, do it! The teachers who think I do too much or think I am over the top can keep thinking that😊 #EduGladiators
This is an example of someone else not doing what I think is important to me right now...but I don't have kids at home. Nice going Tomeka, you're doing the right thing. #edugladiators
A3. I try to see things from different perspectives as that allows possible solutions and greater motivation as it reminds us how it connects to our “why”. #EduGladiators
Thank you! It’s why I caution about toxic positivity w/our students/ people in our lives. Just smile is not an answer - it erases pain and humanness. It’s ok to be mad, sad, depressed, and given tools to overcome. My students have thanked me for this message. #EduGladiators
A2: Leaders have to be good readers of people and ask the right questions. Wanna know more about your staff - don’t wait until they are disgruntled, get to know them. Ask, probe, know your people and then put them in the place they fit best. #edugladiators
A3) I look in the mirror and ask myself what will happen if I do not complete the task🤔🤔🤔What influence will it have on those beyond me🤔🤔🤔#EduGladiators
A3 I take a break and come back to it, brainstorm ideas with my pln, sometimes I have to force myself to walk away and think about something else, frustrated thinking is not productive for me #edugladiators

A3: I give myself breaks, walk away and revamp- I ask for fresh perspective and do more research or design planning. Usually I always end up cleaning the surrounding space, refreshing the environment and organizing in the process... #edugladiators
A3 Step back, process, and consult others for other approaches. Sometimes staring at a forest instead of focus on the tree (or vica versa). #EduGladiators
A2 As a principal I try to remind myself that my passion may burn in a different way so our perspectives maybe different. I try to encourage growth and celebrate the small successes. I constantly remind myself that we all move at a different pace #EduGladiators
A2. Sometimes folks mistake my motivation and drive for something other than what it is....I’m not trying to outshine anybody. This is who I am. This is who God made me. I’m running this race for an eternal prize...nothing else. 🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾#EduGladiators
A2. By frequently revisiting the reason “why” we became educators in the first place. I try to start & end conversations on how we can meet the needs of our Ss. Sometimes less motivated educators must self reflect on their “why” to see if it still applies. #EduGladiators
A2:This is a struggle b/c it can completely diminish the motivated. It starts with trying to understand the perspective of others.Folks should check out #Multipliers to learn about accidental diminishers and how the motivated and less motivated can diminish others. #EduGladiators
A3: Try to go for a walk. My head gets cleared and I'm able to ponder on a solution or find motivation behind the project. Getting outside is always a go to...nature is simply inspiring. #edugladiators
A1: I'm enjoying being motivated by my sons now that they are coming into their own as young high school men. They have become my biggest cheerleaders, & I'm inspired to continue to chase my own personal & professional dreams as they begin to chase their own! ❤#EduGladiators
A2) I’m pretty direct, but I always welcome every voice into the discussion. If you dissent, then dissent! Dissent defines the edges.
BUT, ultimately we all must honestly commit when a vision or direction is made or taken. Disagree, but commit. #edugladiators
A3: If I’m stuck, it’s usually due to not knowing how to move forward that day. I completely set it aside for a day or two to give my subconscious time to work it out. Then chat with others about it. After that I can move forward quickly. #EduGladiators
A3: I remind myself I can do it - but maybe not alone. I ask for help and seek out advice. And remind myself not everything needs to get done so quickly. It’s okay to think, process, and take your time. #edugladiators
A2: It’s easier to keep moving & leave it up to someone else to help those frustrated/less motivated. It’s the call of #edugladiators to stop, engage, listen. Often times source of frustration is feeling of not being heard & unclear next steps. Connect people with/to solutions.
Completely understand what you are saying. Not trying to be better than the guy down the hall. Just trying to be the best teacher I can possibly be because that is what my students deserve! #edugladiators
A3: I go back and break it down into pieces and then strategize how I will complete the smaller pieces. We feel more successful accomplishing something small than nothing at all. #motivate#smallsteps#keepmovingforward#EduGladiators
#edugladiators A1: My students and my son are my primary motivation because they are our most precious resource, the future. I also am motivated by my #SchoolPsychology colleagues around the world who keep my practice up to date and provide me with new resources and ideas.
A3: Sometimes the best way to move forward is to step away for a while. Go for a run, build a snowman, take a scenic drive, spend time with friends & family. Then return to it, remember the purpose/goal of the task, and start again. #edugladiators
A2: Focus on the people who are ready to move to a higher level. Eventually, #FOMO sets in and will push them in the right direction, hopefully. Keep in mind your sphere of influence. Not saying give up, just don't push too hard. #EduGladiators
A3: Sometimes, I start over. If I can’t gather the gumption to get it done, I will ditch it and begin again. For me, I gotta be feelin’ it. But that’s a blessing and a curse. Starting over is not easy, but neither is faking it if I am not feeling it. #edugladiators
A3: sometimesit takes walking away from it and giving you mind a break to intuitively find an answer. If it’s over taxed it goes into a very concrete mode and out side of the box thinking is but on hold #edugladiators
A2: To me, it’s all about perspective & finding out the why behind the frustration. I honor our differences and places we are at on our educational journey. I try to inspire & help individuals keep on moving along that continuum of learning. #edugladiators
A3: Honestly, I like to look back at emails from former students or just take a break and look at my "why". sometimes that is all I need to move forward. #edugladiators
A1: I rope other people in. Their insights into the task usually give me a new avenue to explore or pump excitement back into it. My admin assistant is my right hand in this. She talks to me about a problem then tells me to get back to work 😂 #EduGladiators

A3. I ask my students what they want to do. I have stopped lessons mid stream when I realize they weren’t working and discussed with students. Don’t just push through because you wrote it on a lesson plan. Students have amazing ideas. We are human. #edugladiators
Sometimes my projects are stuck for a good reason. I'm learning to be more patient with that as I tend to want to "finish at all costs." #edugladiators
A3. I tend to be one who obsessed over problems. 😔. I find it very difficult to let go until it’s solved & in doing so get disheartened. I have learned to force myself to take a break and do another activity that stimulates a different part of the brain #edugladiators
A3. I literally have to walk away and come back. Instead of forcing myself through and wasting creative energy. I have to put things down and come back to it later.
Yet, before I start I must think why I got frustrated first.

A3: I rope other people in. Their insights into the task usually give me a new avenue to explore or pump excitement back into it. My admin assistant is my right hand in this. She talks to me about a problem then tells me to get back to work 😂 #EduGladiators

A3: When I'm stuck, I most often walk away to build, create, exercise, talk or work on something else with the problem bouncing around in my head and heart. Often, the real and right solution arrives on its own. #EduGladiators

A3 I ask myself who is this for and why am I doing it. Taking time to reflect on those questions provides motivation and perspective for me. I also try to take a break and step away to get refreshed and refocused #EduGladiators
A3: I struggle with trying to do it all and try every new app or trend in education in my classroom all at once. I constantly remind myself that I physically can’t do it all and it doesn’t make me a bad teacher to ask for help. #EduGladiators
A3: When I am stuck, I recruit others! I try to find someone else who might be passionate about what we are doing and feed off their fuel! #EduGladiators
That can be difficult in the crush of the day! Even a team that has been together for almost a decade needs to work on trust, listening & respect intentionally to move forward. #edugladiators
Yes! Best advice I was ever given - have a good news binder for those “bad” days in teaching. I can over focus and miss the overall good I am doing. Print out emails. Keep pictures. We can be our own worst bosses #EduGladiators
#edugladiators A2: we teach our students circles of control, therefore we must model this everyday. Rather than stress about others actions, I continue to make myself available as a resource and focus on my practice and the things that I have control over. #persistance#selfcare
A3: Here is a place perfectionism can hinder things for me. I have to sometimes just let it go and be okay with the fact that it’s not as perfected as I would like it to be. I also sometimes get feedback from others which then helps me let go easier. #edugladiators
A3. I ask my students what they want to do. I have stopped lessons mid stream when I realize they weren’t working and discussed with students. Don’t just push through because you wrote it on a lesson plan. Students have amazing ideas. We are human. #edugladiators
A4 the message would be the same to both let your passions drive you. Set goals and focus on growth. Focus on the things you are good at to lift up your lesser strengths #EduGladiators
A3: I take a step back and focus on other things for a while. If that doesn't work, I reach out to my motivators: family, educators, students. And then I can do anything!! #edugladiators

A3: When I'm stuck I have to step away from the project and come back. Usually inspiration strikes in the most unexpected places. It's always a good idea to bring in others you trust to offer a fresh perspective. #EduGladiators
A4: I would tell both my students and colleagues that it is very important to know you "why". Be true to your core values. Love what you do. Build relationships with others. Truly be kind and trustworthy! #EduGladiators
A4 follow your passions-everything is connected in some way & this thing you are learning will help you with the thing you love, take the time to pause & see that connection & then power on #EduGladiators
My advice would be to be very clear about your “why” and if that doesn’t keep you motivated - reconsider - who do you serve? What do you value? #EduGladiators
A4 I am honest open about struggles I have had in my life - abuse, neglect, and more. But it is my life and I get to define it. I am open about what makes me human with my students - not a perfect teacher avatar in front of the room. We are a family that we choose #edugladiators
A4- Going to sound cheesy...but find your 'why'. Okay you hate math...but passing this class is moving you towards graduating and your next goal. Have to keep the why in mind as we move forward #edugladiators

A4: find their why and build on it. Students aren’t easily motivated to do something “just because” if I can help them connect to the work in progress then I can help them find motivation to continue on. Sometimes just going for a walk and talking can help! #edugladiators
A1: My better half @EmbraceLOL always motivates me to be my best. She is encouraging and always finds a way to make me feel like a #hero even when I feel like...meh not so much. #EduGladiators
A4. All you need is within you, sometimes you’ll find it. Other times, someone else might find it, but in the in it’s yours to activate.

A3. By breaking the project down into manageable tasks so that it doesn’t seem so daunting. I also put timelines on task completion. It is sometimes easier to climb a tall staircase by not looking at the top but to focus on one step at a time. #EduGladiators
A4: find what motivates you, tell your teacher, and let them use that! Your motivation should be a constant; it anchors you down to complete your task! #EduGladiators
A2: Lack of motivation used to really irk me, but not so much these days. I try to learn the reason why motivation is lacking. No one aspires to be passive & stagnant! Just like our Ss, the Why is usually most telling. Find that, & you can diffuse anything! #edugladiators
A4: what is you passion and using that to drive yourself towards that! For colleagues always remember who you are there for: the students! #edugladiators
A4. Never underestimate the power of internal dreams and desire. Everything you need to succeed...you already have-you just have to harness and channel it in the right direction. Purpose filled passion will sustain you. #EduGladiators
A4a: My advice to Ss about motivation would be- discover what motivates you? What drives you? What wakes you up at night and keeps your mind churning? As noted earlier we are all on different journeys...we must help equip Ss with the mindset for their journey! #edugladiators
A4. All you need is within you, sometimes you’ll find it. Other times, someone else might find it, but in the end it’s yours to activate.

A4: Encourage students to participate in the planning and preparation process. We can gather valuable data for future instructional planning. #EduGladiators
Definitely step away. I go walk laps at school. I have my students do this too. Best ideas sometimes come from not thinking....makes sense right? Haha #edugladiators
A4: never give up!!! Simple good old saying but couldn’t be more true. Push thru when it seems impossible, find all the wrong ways to do something cuz at one point it will be the right one, and be an unconditional cheerleader #edugladiators
A4: Find something you love and do it. Sounds trite but doesn't mean it's not true. I've never been more motivated than I am in my current job doing what I absolutely love. #edugladiators
A4: if you wait around for inspiration to strike and motivation to magically charge you up, life will pass you by. Keep taking small steps forward and you will be surprised how far you get. Be brave, be bold, seek others who influence you positively #EduGladiators

Thank you for the suggestion!! I will check out that book. One of my goals this year is to work on balance. I am at the point I still believe balance is folk lore : ) Sounds like @thezenteacher would be a perfect holiday read! TY!!! #EduGladiators

#edugladiators A3: Executive functioning skills are a must for #schoolpsychologists and I do my best when I listen to music, have a to do list, break my work into chunks, snack, and reward myself for both little and big accomplishments. #justdoit#practicewhatyouteach
A4 My advice for my Ss is to have a growth mindset. Never be afraid to push yourself hard for what you believe in. My advice for my colleagues to ask yourself every day, is your classroom a place you would want your own child to learn? #EduGladiators
A4b: Motivation advice for my colleagues would be- sharpen the saw and spend time with family. Find ways to refuel that will keep your fire of motivation alive and overflowing! #edugladiators
A2: I think the goal is to always keep things in perspective and be the optimistic voice in the room. Sometimes people lose perspective. Reminding people of the real reason we do this, to see students lives changed because of our presence, is a big step. #EduGladiators
A4) It’s very hard to reach for something you don’t value. Know your values first, and THEN reach for them. As a teacher I promise to be a resource and support to you (the end of the semester, year, graduation, and beyond!). #edugladiators
A4: I do my best to say something to try help 3 people feel significant before noon each day. I try offer specific, authentic thank you's. It's both unselfish and selfish, as it will come back and motivate me too.#edugladiators
A3) I literally take a lap... around school halls, my neighborhood, a park, the library Wherever I'm stalled, I get up and move to pull myself up out of the mental muck. By the time I've made a lap or two, the fog has cleared, and I'm ready to get back at it. #EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A2: I constantly remind myself that everyone has their own story/perspective. When talking with others, I validate how difficult the work is - but then ask them about their Why. Finally, I look for ways to show any small steps we have moved forward.
A3: When I’m “stuck” motivating myself to move forward sometimes comes back to rediscovering my purpose...my ‘why’...motivation sometimes comes from regrounding myself, through reflection. #EduGladiators
A4: Never quit learning. Find what you love and see how you can do that as a job. :) Find ways to share your voice and don't let others change who you really are, no matter what is considered "normal". #EduGladiators
A4. Life is too short so find your true purpose because you will be intrinsically motivated to achieve it. External motivation usually doesn’t last & weakens in time. Internal motivation is limitless & can withstand the storms life may bring. This is for both! #EduGladiators
@JustinAglio thank you so much for an amazing #edugladiators chat on motivation. Haven’t finished with the questions yet, gathering a much needed motivation refill today!!
#edugladiators A4: If you are looking outward to find the motivation you seek, you will look forever. Turn your thoughts inward and you will find the key. Once you have that key, know that the road is never straight, but that it will bend and you will make mistakes. Persevere.
A4: Never let anyone bring you down with their lack of a vision. Never let them tell you, “You can’t” because they don’t see the desire and passion that is within you. Take that desire and passion and push toward the vision that had been placed in your heart. #EduGladiators
A4: To my Ss I say, "This is & has to be for you. Not for your grades. Not for me. Not even for your parents. This has to be about you & your journey." Ss need reminded of their intrinsic Why! To my colleagues I say, "If you can imagine it, go make it happen." ❤ #EduGladiators
