I have some "rare powers". Ss have to do something truly exceptional to earn them, or sometimes we auction them off. It is always exciting when alliances are formed to purchase an item. #XPLAP

There are also top team powers and bottom group curses every other week. These always keep my game revolving and exciting!

Usually they get a badge or sometimes some XP or a token to be used in the future to help them out on an assignment. I like to use "invisible ink" (white font on a white background). I also hide links on pictures inside of assignments. These lead to a side quest! #xplap
#xplap A2: Ss are in pre-arranged groups. They help each other in first 15 min to go over homework. At end of class, they compete on the board. At end of marking period, winning team gets home-made dessert. Team that wins is always team that helps weakest members.
A3: I work to hype up Boss Battles or team challenges by revealing the XP possible & encourage Ts to ask kids abt their items/badges & their status on the leaderboard. #XPLAP

I did this one today! Gave the Ss a rubric as they walked in, the assignment is HUGE (a formal lab report- usually pretty bland). We gamified it by making it a quest but instead of reading the rubric to them- they collaborated as a team to explore the task. Winners got XP! #xplap

A5: A perpetual leaderboard over the years keeps Ss coming back to see their rank & inspire others to outperform previous players. You could also keep track of most badges, etc. to reward Ss in multiple ways. Ss could also design record-setting badges. #XPLAP
I do everything on the iPad that the school gave me to use. Take video in one class period or day and post that night. Takes me about an hour to make. #XPLAP

A7: I love giving bonus XP for Ss presenting their learning in other subjects. For example they present about star navigation in science when we read a story about sailors. They share about a Buddhist monk from one of our novels when they study Buddhism in Social Studies #xplap
