#fcpslearn is a weekly chat about teaching and learning. Our focus is on creativity, innovation and inspiration. We discuss a range of educational topics that range from technology integration to the Olympics.
Intro: Shelly Andrews, middle school AP from Winchester VA. Mother of two, big sister to six. Former HS history and MS gifted resource teacher. Go Bulldogs! #fcpslearn
A1: Continuing to find time to rest and also to create engaging lessons that help spark student creativity. It is much more productive when students feel like active participants in knowledge creations! #fcpslearn@ERobbPrincipal@KGT_Educator@misskoplin@MathWithMsHawes
A1: Get into as many classrooms as possible! Love being with our Ss as they learn and our Ts as they light it up! Also, some music in the cafeteria helps! #fcpslearn
A1 We start focussed intervention for provincial testing. However I try not to stress about it, just roll with it. I always plan some extra fun activities to ease the stress. #fcpslearn
A2: My goal? To get emails from students in the future telling me how positively meaningful I was to them. I will continue to try and plan to prepare students for THEIR future instead of MY past. #fcpslearn@ERobbPrincipal@sheehyrw@Shapiro_WTHS@HistoryislifeDC
A2: Our goal is the same as when we reached these kids on Day One -- leave a legacy. With the number of days growing shorter, we need to double down on relationships and help our 8th Graders close the deal. #fcpslearn
Q2: I want to grow my personalized PD for my staff. I'll be researching and adding more activities for my staff over the Summer and overall, just continue to spread my passion about it to others. #fcpslearn
A2: my goal is to support reflective practice by having reflective discussions after walkthroughs with every T in my areas is supervision each quarter. I work toward that by tracking the WT and feedback conversation. Tools from @raegan_rangel have helped! šāļø #fcpslearn
A2:
My goal is reach as many ss as possible and to not only turn them on to acting, but turn them on to learning, and help them become the best versions of themselves. I do this by modelling, by meeting each s where they are, by getting to know them as people. #fcpslearn
A3: I am continually wanting to integrate flipgrid in to my classroom. We are not 1:1 until next year, so I have been hesitating using it until then. I think I just need to give it a shot this year anyway! #fcpslearn
A3: I have been working to consistently get in a Ts classroom on a regular basis to support and coach. I just haven't got there on an even weekly schedule yet. #fcpslearn
A3: Reflection through blogging. I have been on a bit of writing kick lately, but I still haven't sat down to blog. That was a goal from August that hasn't left the ground...yet. #fcpslearn
A3: I have not made it to a team planning meeting per content per week since first quarter. I have to put it on my calendar regularly to get it done. Fortunately I can control this, unfortunately I have not appropriately prioritized it yet. #fcpslearn
A3: I am working hard to make more positive comments for each negative one with students...particularly the challenging ones. It is HARD at times! Reminds me of when I was potty training my kids--I had to train myself first... #fcpslearn
A3:
I am wanting to incorporate more design elements into our study. Not all students or adults want to act, but love being a part of the spectacle of theatre. I need to teach my Ss scenic, costume, lighting, and sound design. But I feel woefully inept at this! #fcpslearn

Q3 Iām still striving to be better with student conferences. Relationships are built through conversations. I want to be better at having deeper reading and writing conferences with my students. #fcpslearn
A4: Upcoming state testing means access to tech will be more limited. I wrote a blogpost before how innovation does not require tech, so now I just need to create other innovative tasks that do not always require tech. #fcpslearn
A1: I plan to give them an activity related to Spring to help them ease back into things. Maybe write a poem or read a Spring time article. I am still on break now, myself. #fcpslearn
A4: I think I just got that solved by another participant. I need to re-prioritize. Make that class the most important thing I attend each week. Thanks @AndrewsShellyVA ! #fcpslearn
A4: Baseball season. Stanley Cup Playoffs. Greatest temptations and biggest threats to sleep. Need someone to remind me to sleep. @sherimaher122 did this once several years ago when I was up VERY late working. She sent me a GHO message that read, "Go to bed, Mike." :) #fcpslearn
A4: lots of hurdles at a school with high needs like ours. But, being honest with my teams about my schedule and what resources I can offer is important for them to know how we can achieve balance together and keep our commitments to each other. #fcpslearn
A4:
Hurdles to me teaching more design-centered units: Space, funding, and ME! I can overcome the first 2 easier than overcoming my need to know and understand everything before teaching. I need to let go and learn with the Ss. #fcpslearn
A4 My biggest hurdle is I get ideas about creating things digitally and then I'm off and running on learning something new. Currently it's Sketchnoting āļøš #fcpslearn
A5: Twitter chats, ongoing PD, presenting a Brainstorm next Friday (first time presenting), blogging, podcasting, and doing more to express my voice and get involved in educational conversations! #fcpslearn
A4: The team needs to be in agreement and developing a system to hold the students accountable for each of the choices that will be manageable for me. #fcpslearn
A5: taking time to set priorities periodically, listening to teacher leaders like @brian_sully08, talking with peers @raegan_rangel at other buildings about what works for them, and by working with mentors like @juliette_myers@Deb__Crawford helps me so much! #fcpslearn
A4 Time and interruptions from outside the classroom. Students need and deserve my complete attention. Office calling and other interruptions pull my focus and attention from the students and our conversations. #fcpslearn
A5:
Building my PLN in the Twitterverse has been huge for me. I have never felt so empowered and less isolated! I've also vowed to be totally honest and transparent as part of my growth (#OneWord2018) , and that has been ultra refreshing. Being myself, flaws and all. #fcpslearn
