#UrbanEd chat is a twitter chat for educators. Topics relevant to the subject of urban education will be discussed, but all educators are encouraged to join the conversation. The chats will be moderated by Ben and Neil, founders of Engaging Educators and elementary school teachers in Detroit, MI.
A.1 I believe goals are the starting point for all achievement. Without them your just doing random tasks that don't point back to anything. It's tough to gauge growth. #UrbanEdChat
A2: You have to create an environment where failure is not final. Students rarely reach their goals because they fear failure. Let students know they will succeed through failure and not by avoiding it. #UrbanEdChat
Yesterday in the #TCMchat we talked about helping ss understand that it’s okay to feel uncomfortable. That means we’re growing and learning. That could help some ss push through. #UrbanEdChat
A3: I make a goal at the beginning of each year for professional or personal learning. This year my goal is to complete four Indigenous studies courses and complete another undergraduate degree. #UrbanEdChat
A3: I break them down. Start with a year goal, then quarter, then month, etc. I also prioritize with my different roles also (father, husband, ministry, business, etc.). Being in sales I'm always driven by daily activities. #UrbanEdChat
A4: Absolutely, with my own kids as well. We do them a huge disservice if we put up a front like we're perfect. They will respect you more in the long run. It also teaches them valuable life lessons which is more important. #UrbanEdChat
