Howdy, #TECHtalkGA! We are the Georgia Educational Technology Conference and are PUMPED for #GaETC18. Applications are open now!
The social media team is from various locations in Georgia. But we are all here tonight!
My name is Ge-Anne and I work as the instructional technology specialist and media specialist liaison at Whitfield County Schools #onewhitfield, #TECHTalkGA
Good evening, #TECHtalkGA friends. I'm Cat Flippen, Director of Personalized Learning & Innovation for @JCSchoolSystem and am excited for @gabolhuis moderating tonight! She rocks my socks.

Hey #TECHtalkGA! Hate that I can't join you tonight but I'll try to catch up tomorrow!
In the meantime, send me good vibes as I try to finish a 10pg paper due tonight at 11:55 on a 5hr jetlag! 😩

A1: Twitter and Youtube are my go to for sure. I'm a visual learner, so I like to watch videos when learning something new using tech. I love Edcamps as well. #TECHTalkGA
A1 People.
Other technologists, teachers, and admins do a great job finding new tools. This also helps vet potential tools or skills for school use.
This can be at @GaETConf, Twitter, or an #edcamp#TECHTalkGA
A1 #TECHTalkGA I look towards other teachers, edcamps, twitter, teacher blogs, and beg borrow and steal. @RbFinley taught me how to do my own digital escape room.
A1 #TECHTalkGA: Wherever I go and whatever I do, I always find myself evangelizing Twitter as an education professional.
I maintain steadfastly that if it wasn't for joining Twitter in 2010, I would not be where I am today.
A1: Twitter and YouTube are favorites for me, but I love to learn from watching/listening to others. Going to EdCamps and just listening to all of the cool new ideas is awesome! #TECHTalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2: I make time to investigate new tools, like the new Adobe Edu products, during my down time in the evening. I also attend EdCamps on weekends.
A2 #TECHtalkGA For me, I fit in my own PL while serving others via:
(1) Twitter. I find things, I share them, I learn from them, they generate ideas, and those ideas become actual things that get implemented
(2) I learn something new with every project (aka spreadsheet) I make
Q2: I have to schedule it and sometimes I have to put it on the back burner. Lots of things I need to learn still. (uhm SPREADSHEETS come to mind) #TECHtalkGA
A2
Grad work happens after the kids are in bed until it's done.
I get my PL based on the problem we are trying to solve and by attending sessions about topics that I know nothing about.
#TECHTalkGA
A2: For me, my professional learning is serving others. I have learned from my Ts so much in the past 2 yrs and am blessed to have had that opportunity to serve 5 different schools in @FloydCoSchools#TECHTalkGA
A2: Balancing everything has been hard while getting my Ed.S., but I also think I learn best by having goals. Having a goal to teach others about what I'm learning helps me focus. Planners are my best friend and I make sure to attend at least 2 conferences a yr. #TECHtalkGA
A2: professional learning is how I spend the time I once spent grading essays. I seek out what my Ts need so they don’t have to do it alone #TECHtalkGA
A2: Our consensus is the best continual professional learning happens in the networking and natural teamwork via authentic conversations, whether at #GaETC18 or in a group text message or in the hallway between class changes #TECHtalkGA
A1 - My grad school stuff is done late at night. It's the only time I have any peace and quiet to concentrate!
Learning through my PLN is all the time, though - there's so much for me to learn! #TECHTalkGA
A2: As an ITC, this can be tough because I’m always so focused on pouring into others. Most of my own learning happens away from school through book studies, edcamps, twitter chats, etc. We can only pour into others if we keep ourselves full. #TECHTalkGA

Learning through my PLN is all the time, though - there's so much for me to learn, and it can happen anywhere! #TECHTalkGA
A2: I learn a ton from others in my school during the day and from Twitter, blogs, conferences, and professional reading on my own time. I get so excited about new ideas, so I don't mind the extra time. #TechTalkGA
A3: I reset by disconnecting and distancing myself from devices and work. Attending live sporting events and doing things with the family help me recharge. #TECHTalkGA
A3: I have to find time to talk to someone who grounds me. Much like a Presidential Cabinet, I have "go-to" people for different areas of my life and I try to seek them out. Sometimes, though, I find it hard to ask. #TECHtalkGA
A3: Spending time with family and friends. Family is always #1, but the cool thing about spending time with friends is that they are part my PLN as well! #TECHTalkGA
A3: I do a no device day at least once a month to kind of recharge. But I find what helps me reset is knowing all of my work is done, which usually means sacrificing sleep. #TECHtalkGA
Exactly right @iamryanwhite! We cannot forget @Voxer. I've had some of my absolutely best and most powerful connections and ideas on there. (Shoutout to @JaimeVanderG@techyturner@amylpie)
Plus there are tons of ongoing book clubs and other EDU groups you can join. #TECHTalkGA

.@voxer is great for when you have no cell reception in a school, leaving a message that is easier said than typed, and getting a group together to have their voice heard.
#TECHTalkGA
A3 #TECHTalkGA: I like to differentiate my resetting options--
Sometimes, it's the release of conversation + connection w/ people and close friends. Other times it's getting outdoors or playing with my girls. Otherwise, I explore my other intellectual hobbies. I like options!
A3: It’s important to take a step back and look at the big picture often. Ask yourself these questions: 1. Is what we are doing what’s best for students? 2. What is our end goal in this? 3. Are we on track to meet our end goal? If not, what areas are causing weakness? #TECHTalkGA
A4 @GaETConf was great this year. There were lots for instructional technologists unlike prior years.
We have to deliberately create a system to cultivate technology leadership in Georgia, and this conference is a good forum to begin that.
#TECHTalkGA
A4: So, we confess our bias, but only because of our own experiences every year at @GaETConf!
Please consider submitting an application to #GaETC18 or attend and learn with us! We promise the experience will be meaningful and memorable: https://t.co/i759akLLmY#TECHTalkGA

A4 - I love to go to Edcamps - the vibe is always so energizing! Also, the #floydpln is such a great resource. I always learn something new from our awesome FCS staff! #TECHTalkGA
A5: I need to learn more about the process for becoming a Google Certified Trainer. I’d also like to know more about obtaining the instructional tech certification. #TECHTalkGA
Thank you for the invite! Hello to everyone on tonight's chat. I'm at dinner with my wife. I caught some of tweets from tonight's #TECHTalkGA. Great topics!!
A5 My plan is to keep learning and connecting with others on Twitter and Voxer. I want to lead others to do the same. I'm super excited about our teacher led twitter chat tomorrow night! #pesdragonspln#TECHTalkGA

A5 - I'm finishing up my EdS this month (YAY!), but there's still so much to learn. I know my FCS friends are going to be a huge help in my new adventure! #TECHTalkGA
A5 #TECHTalkGA: This is a question that gets harder the deeper and more passionate you get into your EDU-career.
For me, as someone who is ABD, the rebooting and finishing of my doctorate is immediately in my field of vision. And I think I'm ready for it.
Q5: I would like to learn more about the latest tech trends (like VR, AR, etc) and how they will impact Ss learning. Also how STEM in Ag Literacy can bring about more differentiated learning process for our Ss.
#TECHTalkGA
Thank you, Ge-Anne, for excellent questions and moderation of #TECHTalkGA! I look forward to when we can cross paths F2F again (and hopefully soon!). #PLN power!
