#RuralEdChat is a chat that focuses on the needs of the rural educator. This chat has been revised by Tammy Neil (@MathNeil), John Martin (@edventures) and Natalee Stotz (@nataleestotz).
Good Evening, #RuralEdChat I'm Tammy and I'm grateful to be your moderator tonight. As we get started, let's open with introductions and tell us what your favorite color is.
Tonight we are talking about Gratefulness. We will use the Q1/A1 format unless a really great conversation breaks out and distracts us all. Don't forget to add #RuralEdChat to your tweets so we can all share your brilliance.
Q1: I specialize in Digital Learning so my classrooms are virtual. I am grateful for @zoom_us It has really improved the reliability of our live class sessions and brings students face to face. #RuralEdChat
A1: for the physical classroom, it's gotta be having enough working computers that each student has one. Critical for both CS and online learning. We might outgrow the room soon though! #RuralEdChat
Jerry! For those of you that may not know. Jerry has made it his life work to categorize tons of resources. Check out his page for safe and reliable resources for tons of EDU topics and beyond. #RuralEdChat
A2 our office staff truly loves kids, and knows when they make poor choices they are just learning. I appreciate that they see the whole kiddo, not just their behavior. #RuralEdChat
A2: I'm grateful for the incredible freedom we have in our classroom. Bringing in Computer Science and distance learning (and all the PD!) involves a lot of trying new things and failing sometimes. It's all accepted as part of the process. #RuralEdChat
It's interesting to try to remember life before I found #RuralEdChat. Then again, I can barely remember yesterday's lunch most of the time, so make what you will of that :)
A3: I can tell you that I am so grateful for "THAT student" because they keep me on my toes. Also, I'm grateful that they never seem to get sick, therefore, I never catch anything from them. #RuralEdChat
A3: I'm grateful for their energy and their "tell it like it is" approach. Even when I wish I could redirect the energy or sprinkle in some better timing. These types of students certainly keep me humble. #RuralEdChat
A3: Grateful for the fact I have developed a good enough relationship with THAT student that they are willing to come to me - over and over and over and over and ...
#RuralEdChat
A3 I'm grateful that a challenging student gives me a chance to reflect on and understand how/why I have certain expectations, values and systems in place. #ruraledchat
A3:. One of the kids we geocache wirh always has some funny (if not appropriate) observation to make and I'm grateful he reminds me what it was like to be a kid just looking for a place in the world #ruraledchat
A3 I appreciate that he keeps me thinking of ways to make the lessons relevant to them. To make me think of how the work will influence their future lives and not make it mundane “robot work”. #RuralEdChat and oh man does he make me work hard especially when I’m most tired.
Agree so much. I'm a lot more prepared to answer "why is this relevant?" questions now. Because I know they're coming and have to design lessons to match. #RuralEdChat
A4: I am grateful I have a space for myself. I am grateful for time of solitude that allows me to face the world again the next day. I'm also very grateful that I have a space to share with my dear husband & that I actually WANT to hang out with him (and vice versa). #RuralEdChat
A4 my oldest (20) coming home for an evening and baking. Not allowed to put a picture up of her working, I wish you could all smell the ginger snaps baking! #RuralEdChat
A4: I'm perhaps most grateful for the large open space I have in my living and dining rooms, so there's plenty of room for hosting guests and get togethers. #RuralEdChat
Missed the chat, but grateful for all the reminders of how grateful I am for all the ?s, all the chances to get it right, & all the connections with Ss. #RuralEdChat#gratitudechallenge
A5: Time. Didn’t realize how fleeting it is when I was younger. Realize just how precious it is now. Cherish it - invest in it. It is something you can’t take with you.
#RuralEdChat
A5 Hmm...tough one. I'm grateful for having grown up in two really different places. It was challenging to navigate as a kid, but I wouldn't change it now for the perspectives and experiences I gained. #RuralEdChat
A5: Perhaps betraying my young age here, but just in the past few years I realized how grateful I am for my parents. They've given me so many opportunities, and I never seem to stop learning from them. #RuralEdChat
A5: Owning my own learning. When I was younger, I just took for granted that others were in charge of what I could learn. When I put that aside, I really began to realize that I'm truly the one responsible for my personal growth. #RuralEdChat
Speaking of gratitude tonight, I'm appreciated @korytellers month of thanks over on Facebook. Every day she shares something she's thankful for and it never fails to make me smile. #ruraledchat
Oh gosh, thank YOU! It’s something I started a few years ago during the month of November. I’ve seen others do it too. #30DaysOfGivingThanks Something so simple, but makes such an impact. #RuralEdChat
I am grateful for you. Thank you for joining #RuralEdChat tonight. I'm also grateful for those of you just lurking. We know you are there. We appreciate your support as well.
A6: IT DOESN'T FIT ON TWITTER
My family
The after school club I was in growing up
The volunteers at that club
Everyone who took a chance in giving me opportunities in school and life
Everyone here on #RuralEdChat for helping me learn and grow as an educator
A6. My community makes me so grateful. They are hosting evacuees from the Campfire here in California. And when you drive into the RedCross Shelter you see so many familiar faces giving time, hugs, love, money, items, what ever they can to our neighbors from Paradise #RuralEdChat
