A1 I think that I'd like to know more about how exactly this concept can be implemented in a class where students have such mixed abilities. I like the idea in theory but I'm unsure of it's practicality #novaedchat
  • kelly_freiheit Jan 30 @ 8:06 PM EST
A1: One question I always get is do we rollout PL across grade-levels? Or subject areas? Or all? Love to hear others opinions. #NovaEdChat
  • FCPS_PD Jan 30 @ 8:06 PM EST
A1 My questions are 1) how do you keep it from being overwhelming? And 2) how can we apply personalized learning to PD for adults? #NoVAedchat
  • MrsTannenb Jan 30 @ 8:06 PM EST
A1: Lots of people use this term- but not everyone is speaking the same language- what is personalized learning mean to you in action? #NovaEdChat

A1 there are more unknowns than knowns in regards to #personalizedlearning at this point. I’m especially curious about the intersect between PL and standards-based, assessment-driven curriculum. How do you effectively balance the two? #NoVAedchat
  • MsBlake5th Jan 30 @ 8:08 PM EST
A1: One of my questions is always about time management. How to schedule time to plan b/c I feel PL is very much "front loaded" & how to manage the time in class so Ss have adequate work time, but Ts also get to meet with everyone. #novaedchat
  • HowardKiyuna Jan 30 @ 8:08 PM EST

A1: How can I begin with helping Ss identify their learning styles and needs? #NoVAedchat
  • kelly_freiheit Jan 30 @ 8:08 PM EST
One thing we've found to be really helpful w/ working with districts is to support them in understanding the core elements of PL and identify where they are on with the Core 4 elements. https://t.co/deLQJFWR9C #NoVAedChat

A1. I get asked often, "How do you make PL sustainable with multiple schools?" #NoVAedchat

  • nprietti Jan 30 @ 8:10 PM EST
I think starting small is best. If too many centers/groups feels like too much, start with Ss working through a playlist while pulling one small group or individual Ss. Digital content is also great bc you can get feedback while Ss practice. #NoVAedchat
    In reply to @HowardKiyuna
  • Edu_Thompson Jan 30 @ 8:11 PM EST

Yes, we are just starting those at our school. We are using a pineapple to invite people in to see something you are doing or you canpost something on our Pinapple board that you would like help with. #NovaEdChat I guess I' looking for ideas to get Ts more interested.

  • kelly_freiheit Jan 30 @ 8:14 PM EST

  • nprietti Jan 30 @ 8:15 PM EST
I don't think it's so much about equal time as it is about giving all Ss what they need. Some will need you more, and at different times. #NoVAedchat

A1: What's one manageable thing a teacher can try for a first start? #NoVAedChat
  • TechyMargaret - Moderator Jan 30 @ 8:15 PM EST
This is a great question @MrsMasarik! I think structure can help till it becomes regular habit. Setting timers as a reminder, being purposeful about how students are grouped, etc. This is another opportunity to invite colleagues in to observe and offer suggestions #NoVAedchat

  • MrsTannenb Jan 30 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: In my role, I would need time and opportunities to help the teachers at my school see how technology can aid in PL #NoVAedChat
  • FCPS_Signorelli Jan 30 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: I think one of the biggest changes is in the classroom culture. The students need to feel like everyone in the room is a part of the learning community and has something to contribute to the process. #novaedchat
  • nprietti Jan 30 @ 8:17 PM EST
A2: Purposeful flex seating! Consider your teaching style & the ways your Ss will collaborate. i.e. - Will Ss be podcasting? Maybe they need pop-up tents. Are devices in the way/distracting when they aren’t needed? Maybe you need a device “parking lot” or “daycare.” #NovaEdChat
  • kelly_freiheit Jan 30 @ 8:17 PM EST
