It's your last chance to submit your entry for this year's Science Technician of the Year Awards. Entry deadline is this Friday (26th) so there's still time to apply, but don't miss out! ๐https://t.co/Vbw2K8sb7L ๐ฉโ๐ฌ๐จโ๐ฌ #ASEChat#ASETechs
Word(s) of the day: โknit upโ - of a bird, having fluffed out its feathers in protection against the cold, thereby trapping extra layers & pockets of warmth within its down (English regional).
Progress can be increasing breadth as well as depth. Easier to show progress within a topic - eg development of organic chemistry to polymers etc. Should we be assigning grades or just commenting on strengths and areas for development? #asechat
I would be interested in a future #asechat about science concepts that cross disciplines and where should they go. E.g density - chemistry or physics? Fossils - biology or Earth Science? Are some things โwhere they areโ because of historical placement? If so is that still OK?
Looking to do an @theASE West Midlands CPD event on Required Practicals, probably focussing on Physics experiments...what would your preferences be please? #ASEChat#Science
Given @DamianHinds speech today on computing maybe a chat on computing and science and if students are prepared for modern science after school? computational chemistry/physics/biology etc #asechat
There are so many great ideas here, I would love to use some in my classroom one day! I especially love the idea of letting children explore with a melting ice cube to learn more about the water cycle. Thanks for sharing! #ASEchat#cep416
Grades are dangerous at this point especially not really knowing what they are. I think if you want a score use a % you can always see if you make more or less progress that way (testing wise)- but feedback on areas to develop as well as strengths is key for me #asechat
By the way, these were just the top 4 i thought people would most want from the Combined Science list, any other suggestions please tweet and let me know! #ASEChat#science
I love this idea! It is such a clever way to help students learn about the periodic table, and inexpensive too since pizza boxes are easily obtained. I can't wait to give this a try in my classroom! #ASEchat#cep416
One of the good things about the new GCSE is it *should* move us away from predicted grades and forward towards talking about next steps/improvement. A grade is no use to a student anyway but how to improve is invaluable! ๐#asechat
This video was so creative and the lyrics were so clever! I love music, and incorporating it into science and The Association for Science Education was awesome- great work, and thank you for posting! #ASEchat#cep416
#asechat "soft skills", "employability skills", "digital skills", "character" and "resilience", "digital natives". It sounds like skills vs knowledge debate is going to appear again.
@DamianHinds bring back ICT? You've lost whole cohorts of students developing "digital skills".
